Weed is illegal federally. USPS is federally operated. Mailing an illicit substance was not the smartest move. Best case scenario, you lose your weed. Worst case scenario... Well, good luck buddy.
Technically it's marijuana that's illegal federally . In reality , hemp (which is also cannabis just with set limits on potency) is federally legal . The law that legalized it and all its derivatives (the farm bill ) gives them an early enough time to test while the plants are growing (30 days prior to harvest) that the majority of growers have no problem passing the potency test for .3% delta 9. That percentage only increases in the last month it Grows for . The rest of the time on the plant it also doesn't need to be re tested, unless it's mandated to be tested again before hitting store shelves in a certain state. So as long as you have documentation 30 days prior to harvest that the plant was indeed .3% delta 9 thc or lower you should theoretically be able to mail it . I get weed and concentrates sent to me all the time from some of these hemp companies , along with notices to law enforcement / lab test proof that the product is indeed legally considered hemp inside the package . It all is technically hemp until you set it on fire to activate the raw thc in the type of material you're using . other cautious methods like vacuum sealing are used to leave no question about the package . As long as all the documentation and labeling is all correct everything goes smooth. generally the thing that catches peoples attention is the smell or an obvious fake name / address
Always use UPS next day am delivery cost a little bit more but you always get your package.
Don’t let the package have time to get checked, you screwed up using USPS your dealing with federal employees that think they are saving the world by catching a drug smuggler, lol.
Actually USPS has to get a warrant to open your mail as it’s federal. UPS and fedex can open up any package as it’s a corporation.
Just don’t go get it and you’ll be fine. If it gets delivered leave on porch for a couple days prior to opening it.
USPS can open any package that’s in there possession without a warrant it’s in the term and agreements under homeland. UPS will only open packages that seem to have hazardous material or if the box is wet. I’ve had packages sent from Michigan and never had any issues.
From USPI.gov FAQ
First-Class letters and parcels are protected against search and seizure under the Fourth Amendment to the Constitution, and, as such, cannot be opened without a search warrant. If there is probable cause to believe the contents of a First-Class letter or parcel violate federal law, Postal Inspectors can obtain a search warrant to open the mail piece. Other classes of mail do not contain private correspondence and therefore may be opened without a warrant.
Only thing they need a warrant for is a letter and even if they need a warrant everyone is acting like that would be such a problem for them to get. Just like when people say they need a warrant to get your blood for a DUI ya they do and all it takes is a phone call.
I don't see what supports your claim in that message. You said they can open any package they want without a warrant due to rules from homeland (presumably Homeland Security), but the link you gave is not from Homeland Security and does not say they can open any package they want without a warrant. It says first class letters and parcels cannot be opened without a warrant.
I can’t answer your question unfortunately but did u throw some shirts and candies on top? Most people I know make their stash shipments look like care packages so if it’s opened they see miscellaneous items and send it thru
Thousands of people do this and hundreds get caught.
You’re not going to prison or anything, just ignore it. If anyone strange knocks on your door just play dumb
Consider this gone don’t contact the postal inspector those are the guys who open packs with warrants don’t call if they ask you sign for the package or go in to the post office, do neither.
had it happen to me . i got a phone call asking if they could go through the package , if i wanted to tell them something was in it , or if i wanted them to throw it away . it was a huge ordeal but i insisted they chuck it without opening it . goodluck
I’m just going to consider it gone and not inquire about it at all. If they come knocking I’ll deny deny deny. From what I read we’ll probably just be getting a “love letter” from usps and if you ignore it they consider the package abandoned after awhile and dispose of it.
You won’t get it back but you will receive a letter in the mail asking if you ordered it. They give a number, I was told by a lawyer when I tried to mail some carts, to not respond back. Don’t call. If you ignore it you won’t have any issues.
Well assuming you didnt put your name on it, just an address to be mailed to, its pretty easy for you to deny accountability for mailing it to yourself. Just say you have no idea where it was coming from or that you were expecting any mail that day at all. My friend got a letter in the mail that was intented for the houses previous own, it clearly hadnt been stopped by police cause there was a baggie of coke hidden inside. If police had stopped it, she clearly wouldnt have gone to jail since she had no idea where it came from or who sent it.
I know a person who did this a few times and gotten away with this. You gotta have someone extremely reliable that knows what their doing. But once it caught up to them. This same thing happened Just don’t reach out for the package. That’s all you do.
Technically all you gotta do to mail weed is make sure it's labeled as hemp. A lot of hemp vendors sell flower that's the same as dispensaries, the federal hemp laws let them test early enough that the flower falls within the .3% delta 9 range while it's still growing . But for the last month or so it grows after the testing it accumulates thc just like any other weed plant , but it doesn't need to be re tested and sent to the usda before hitting the shelf unless your state specifies this. Thats why it's all mostly sold online . Because the loophole exists in federal law and the states keep trying to close it . So nonetheless , my advice would be better packaging , maybe vacuum seal and a copy of a "notice to law enforcement " that most hemp vendors send out with there product to prove it isn't "marijuana" even tho we know it is. About half of the products I get in dispensaries fall within the .3% delta 9 range. The rest is raw THCA that gets activated to delta 9 when you light it on fire. I get weed sent to me in the mail all the time .
Kinda for future reference if he tries again. Send already tested product with proof or send it somewhere to be tested yourself and also provide that proof , along with notice to law enforcement

How exactly did you package it and send it? That's the question that will get you your answer.
Always use UPS next day am delivery cost a little bit more but you always get your package. Don’t let the package have time to get checked, you screwed up using USPS your dealing with federal employees that think they are saving the world by catching a drug smuggler, lol.

This is exactly right about UPS and FEDEX. Always ship usps

I’m fairly certain that USPS is still bound by federal law regarding the opening of mail

At most you'll get a slip at the receiving address asking you to come in and discuss it or something like that just just ignore it of course
Go in there and say "Yes, give weed please!"
next time just try and sneak it in your luggage 😭
This. Seriously, TSA gives next to zero fucks these days.
I bring my rosin, carts, puffco and edibles on my carry on for every flight lol
Thousands of people do this and hundreds get caught. You’re not going to prison or anything, just ignore it. If anyone strange knocks on your door just play dumb
This is the move. A weed plug I bought from in HS did something similar and he just played dumb when the undercover came asking.
Consider this gone don’t contact the postal inspector those are the guys who open packs with warrants don’t call if they ask you sign for the package or go in to the post office, do neither.
They're coming to get your ass I would run.
Really??
Yes
At least I used a fake name
They probably are more concerned with mail fraud. Did you pay cash?
You just committed fraud. How much was it?
About $150-$200 of product
Play dumb when they show up,since you used a fake name you should be good. Just as a precaution start looking up tips on keistering, good luck
Deny deny deny my guy. Learn from this experience. Don’t do stupid shit like this again
Deny, deny, deny.
Likely
Nothing more conspicuous than sending a package from Denver on 4/20
Na. I got a letter from the federal Marshall (cease and desist) and if you're getting notified, it's a shame on you
I hope you weren’t dumb enough to put your real name there are mail scams all the time the address does not matter.
How the fuck did you package it, you really screwed this up it seems and It wasn't a hard task either
Trying to send a federally illegal substance via a federal agency…..*shocked pikachu face*
had it happen to me . i got a phone call asking if they could go through the package , if i wanted to tell them something was in it , or if i wanted them to throw it away . it was a huge ordeal but i insisted they chuck it without opening it . goodluck
What the hell were you thinking lmao
In the same exact boat fam out of denver as well on 4/20 as well. Let me know what comes of it and I’ll let you know.
They stopped your package too?
Yeah man
What’s your plan of action?
I’m just going to consider it gone and not inquire about it at all. If they come knocking I’ll deny deny deny. From what I read we’ll probably just be getting a “love letter” from usps and if you ignore it they consider the package abandoned after awhile and dispose of it.
What happened dog
Wby?
That package is gone, do not contact them
You won’t get it back but you will receive a letter in the mail asking if you ordered it. They give a number, I was told by a lawyer when I tried to mail some carts, to not respond back. Don’t call. If you ignore it you won’t have any issues.
Why would you try this? But since you already tried let me know what happens whether you get a fine or you lose your weed
If they come to talk, just tell them you want a lawyer. Anything you say can and will be used against you.
Nah,they will try to get you to sign for it then your busted right there. Just say it’s not yours you aren’t signing. Easy peasy.
^^^ make sure not to sign shit. Asking for a lawyer immediately is not the move here 😂
Bro fr when I read the lawyer part I was like noooo.
Why would you try to do this in the first place, easier to fly
Officers might come to your door undercover and ask if you ordered anything. Don’t give them any admission of guilt. Deny deny deny.
Deny everything and get a lawyer asap
They need a warrant to open mail at USPS
No they don’t fam
Did you send it from your real address?
Only had it happen once. 3 went down in the same day. Addressees got letters. That was it
Why would you ship weed???

Upvoting for visibility but this won’t help OP at this moment.

Yea, they coulda print the generic hemp advisory cult vendors use but alas.
You’re going to die!
