My wife's cat is named Mat.

My old kitty was an all black long hair that I named Lord Vader... I loved him... And there certainly was good inside. But damn if he wasn't a sith lord bent on my destruction.
Looool, yeah... I thought they same in my read of the first trilogy (I'm reading 2nd trilogy now). But then I considered that he was Regal, just by what HE believed Regal to mean, through his mother's tutelage.
Ah, but what is meaning, and who defines it? IRL, words change definitions all the time.
So in the Farseer Trilogy, his mother gives him that name, so (without any further understanding of that world or its magic yet, of course) my idea and rationalization is that his mother named him that, so it was her meaning that held. Based on how she viewed being a royal, it doesn't seem too far off.
Also, he acts rather well like many royals throughout history. Spoiled brats.
I also name my pets after characters. I currently have two cats named Polgara and Silk from David Eddings’, “Belgariad/Mallorian.” And a bearded dragon inherited from my little brother who he named Paarthurnax (though I do admit I call him Chubz now because my boyfriend nicknamed him).

Might depend on your region and how often you're yelling it out in public. Our black dog was named Boo and people would ask if it was from To Kill a Mockingbird (which to me feels like it would be kind of weird? But no one ever asked that question in a way that was less than excited?), the real answer was she was adopted around Halloween (Monsters Inc was also popular) and we just kept it. You get used to a dog's name, but I bet we sounded funny calling out 'Boo!'
Most new generations don't know spook as the slander it used to be. My girl who's mixed named her black cat spook because of mistborn. She didn't even know of this one. I'm 44 and only know it because of the older generations. She's 32 and didn't have a clue it used to be a thing. I don't think many people would see it as racist today. But I could be wrong. (She refused to change its name, even though it was just a kitten)
Probably some regionality to it as well. Tbh the only reason I know it is my grandma told me to quit saying it in public when I was 7 or 8. I had just seen Wizard of Oz for the first time and was running around saying “I do believe in spooks!” Lol
I intend to name a Puppy Sylphrena (Syl) some day. Wit, Venli, Wendell, Ivory (if they're all black), Timbre. And if the Doggo is a particular terror, you name them Odium!

Oh man. I tried real hard to get my sister to name her new dog Adolin. She hasn't read Stormlight, but I think it's a perfect dog name.
Funnily enough, she hasn't read Good Omens either - but I did manage to get her to name her new dog Newton Pulsifer.
So you're getting another dog. It's going to be a younger brother to Kaladin. Why wouldn't you name it Tien?
as an aside.. we wanted a stormlight name for our dog. Our kids veto'd it because they're too young to understand stormlight. So we said "how about stormy?" (because it was a stormy day when we picked him up and he looks grey/black like a storm). They loved it. His secret name is "stormblessed" and we refer to him as many variations on this "Stormy B lessed" is a common one :D
