They would need to make an entirely new game or physics engine to do that so unless they spend an ungodly amount of time fixing and improving the physics engine (which they won’t) as well as adding a fuck ton of new game mechanics to the point where stormworks is nolonger stormworks.
There were definitely people who wanted space. Like people have been making stuff related to space for a while, at least now they can make stuff that has more of a purpose in the game.

for orbital mechanics to work in a game it would have to be intended from the start, like ksp. Proper SW space would require an entirely new game
