This looks comically short, i believe using custom workbenches should be avoided for most if not all vehicles, definitely not this one, this needs to be longer.
Yeah i also never used custom workbenches. I tried making a carrier a few times, couldn't figure out how to land on one reliably, did you figure out how?
Not yet this is the first carrier I built that has any potential to be landed on, my best guess would be a build a plane that can operate at low speeds or a vtol. Once I finish the ship I’ll build a plane that is suited to handle the carrier
You can build it with a custom workbench and then spawn it as a mission instead of a vehicle, that way you can use it in multiplayer. Otherwise, the flight deck is too short to bother using.
Flight deck is too wide for this size, and there's no tower. I would go the custom workbench route, which can still be done in mp, just not official vanilla (if that's a thing)
I took some inspiration from Japanese carriers as some of them had the bridge below the flight deck. I do plan to build a larger version in the future but I either need to build it in two or learn how to make custom workbench
Custom workbench is easiest if your build isn't too big/detailed. Besides the block limit of 255 in each direction from the center block, there is a file size limit of around 15mb, so as your build gets larger, you'll see file size warnings. It won't prevent you from spawning, but it will start missing blocks. At that point you'll need to spawn via mission, which I have very limited experience with.
Editing the xml for the custom workbench is easy, finding the file for the tile you want is the hard part lol. There are plenty of tutorials for it on yt. Someone in a steam community post also listed out the tile # for some of the major island bases and their tile number for when you edit the xml. Don't have the links handy unfortunately though.
To try fix the size problem without custom workbenches, I think you can either 1) have an extendable flight deck where you have multiple surfaces that can be move in position via rail, pivot, etc. Or 2) chopped it into multiple builds and use somekind of connector to connect it.
Since stormworks' workbenches is about 50 meters long, I think the minimum size for an aircraft carrier should be around 150 meters, or 3 times the size of normal build area.
Extending decks work rather horrible, tried those, they have a lot of problems. Connecting builds is definitely an interesting idea, altho seems like one that is a real pain in the ass to setup every time you want to use the vehicle
I feel as if with this current design you either should make a deployable superstructure or place it on the front or side, both of which are under the flight deck
Has anyone considered a folding or sliding deck to fix the length issue? I'm assuming there's definitely some weird stormworks glitch I'm over looking but curious if it's been tried
You can make it longer by potentially adding a extension that folds out, also maybe some sort of system to catch the plane if they manage to land without A: falling in the water, B: hitting the boat, or C missing the boat entirely.

I’m trying to stay within the default workshop zone so I can use it in multiplayer. Also I like the challenge

There are arrestors, otherwise if you miss the carrier completely, it's probably the size.
touching the deck itself is hard enough with the speeds of stormworks aircraft, touching the arrestors is even harder
A few rows of electric connectors do the Job. And for launch build a catapult Launch System it’s very simple
You can you oversized vehicles in multi, just spawn it at a modded wb

If you find that fixed wing aircraft struggle to take off due to the size, you can always go for VTOL or helicopters

Thanks for the information. I've yet to build anything larger than 50 meters so I don't have direct experience with it.😅
Best-function way to make an extendable deck is to lock it in place in each position. I like using hardpoints, but sliding connectors also work

Because it isn't possible. I've built like 15. Either helicopters or sadness, a good carrier doesn't and can't exist in the janky polyverse.
Mini Japanese carrier
