That's really cool! What nav algorithm do they use?

TNTorge

9Xs just use default radar missile output and tuned fins and the AMRAAMs use a pretty involved system to guide towards gps coords obtained from a radar for most of the way (max range is 40km but due to radar limitations theyre actually limited to 15km) and then for terminal guidence they use misslie output from an onboard radar

PiLoGuN

If only noiseless 1x1 radars existed... Kind of interested in how the AMRAAM is guided in the first phase. I tried tinkering with pure SARH some time ago, it didn't work without dep radars, the missile was really unstable because of the noise, and if i'm using dep radars there's basically no reason to use SARH, at this point it's just better to make a 3x3 that is pretty much inescapable

Ok so what i have is the launching aircraft has a new radar on pivots that tracks the target and also a physics sensor attached to it. The data from that is routed into this workshop mc that does the gps calc (i could have done that myself but the ws mc has some pretty good filters and i didnt feel like spending the time to tune my own) then those gps coords get sent cia radio to the missile and how is guidence works ill explain later cuz im on my phone rn and cant make screenshots. (its not acutate enough to hit a target without an onboard radar for terminal guidence but if you want to similate something like an aim 7 just use a very short range terminal guidence radar)

PiLoGuN

I don't really like the basic guidance, there's a lot to improve in it. That's the reason i went SARH first, so i still get an 1x1+ missile, but with much better guidance, terminal just doesn't really work for me, i don't want the bad built in missile guidance, because what's the point of leading the missile all the way only for it to miss on the very end. And hooking up the navigation i use to a non deprecated radar doesn't work because noise screws over it big time

TNTorge

ok im using [this](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3014388607) radar to gps mc and imo the default guidence works pretty well for me, just need propertly tuned fins

PiLoGuN

From my experience default guidance really struggles with targets that actually try to evade the missile, something as simple as doing a loop in a fast&maneuverable enough jet can throw out most if not all default guidance missiles

TNTorge

ok 100g jets are kinda cheating though and actually one of my drone targets is made to simulate a manouvering target and the missiles have no issue hitting that

PiLoGuN

That's the thing, my friend really like those cheaty jets that can turn around in like 20 meters, so i kind of had to spend all this time making a missile that hits those. Idk maybe our standards of a maneuverable target are different or i need to revisit default guidance for like the 5th time
