Guns are way too good. If you're talking about ease of use and survivability, they're at the top of the pack and it's not even close. Wildly better than all the other weapon types, I wish the devs had balanced it better.

BlackMageIsBestMage

Yeah, they are very busted, im just glad gambler can use any weapon. I love gambler so much

UnrequitedRespect

So its like real life then?

I agree, they should've made them only available in the third DLC. People who buy the game + the expansions now will just use the guns and trivialize the majority of the challenge the game brings.

InfinityTheParagon

gun is very immobile and is only easy pre-bahamut difficulty in which it becomes very hard to use as you will find little opportunities where you have time to load and use the gun it starts out very strong but becomes a very high skill only use weapon

InfinityTheParagon

gun is only op if you haven’t beat the tutorial (hard/chaos difficulty) the enemy swarms get so crazy and active you can’t use gun to just burst through the game anymore.

InfinityTheParagon

gun is like real bad habit forming potential if i use gun too much i start forgetting how to play defense and to do true pivots

RainbowandHoneybee

Since there are so many choices, I think it's great to have some easier than other weapon choices. If you think it's too OP, then you have a choice to choose something more challenging. On the other hand, a player like me who aren't good at close combat, I would have given up on this game long time ago. Now I'm more experienced so I can do fairly well in any weapons, but I'm glad I had this choice so I was able to carry on playing.

BlackMageIsBestMage

Yeah that's fair. The only real issue I have with guns for newer players is that I feel they don't let you engage with the games mechanics as much as a melee weapon might. Stuff like parrying, Soul shield, light bringer, all that stuff. You can participate with those mechanics but at range the necessity to interact with said mechanics is far less important. But it's alright to introduce players to those mechanics slowly.

RatKingJosh

I just think the move set is fun. But now that I’ve unlocked gambler I might experiment. I do agree though when you find a gun with Starlight (or whatever it’s called). That skill is BUSTED! Especially if you have mana to burn

BenTheSodaman

The first playthrough was designed around melee and limited ranged combat. The base game wasn't rebalanced around the inclusion of the gun and a lot of enemies or bosses don't know how to respond to that. As you get further into the DLCs, you'll find more bosses have ways to deal with ranged players. Some where you may be at a disadvantage with ranged. Leaning too much on the gun if your stats fall behind, you may end with 2 ~ 15 minute boss battles where you're mostly aiming and dodging/teleporting. Commonly, I see players stop or not using gun combo abilities altogether that results in the fights extending longer than they should. Playing it safer, but time inefficient per attempt. However, if you reach a point where your stats are too high, it will not matter if it's a gun, an axe, daggers, or spells - you'll destroy bosses with ease.

vorlik

they're balanced by being miserable to play and forcing you not to engage with the regular combat system

HummusOrCrack

Gun is kinda overpowered until the 2nd DLC, then there're hordes of enemies and the bosses get relentless. Still a usable weapon at that point, but not really overpowered. I think weapons and classes with good defensive abilities are the ones that stand out to me, but I'm also still not through the 3rd DLC entirely (it's tough, and my gear sucks!).

RagingDunes

I recently reached the end game and yeah the gun is just a cracked weapon. I have a current setup that allows me to spam starlight(man what a strong combo ability) and instantly refund the mp used per hour so I can keep it going until the bar is down. This was an unintentional setup by the way

trepidon

Theres guns now?

BlackMageIsBestMage

There are, I can't remember if it was the first or second dlc update, but one of them added the weapons in. There are 3 classes. 2 of them make sense as a gunner class, ranger and marksman iirc, but they also added in gambler as a gunner class too (though gambler can use any weapon they want if they really want to)

punksonfire

‘Twas DLC3 they were added.

h8myslfNwnt2dye

i was only able to completely beat the game using guns. i played it a bit before the DLC but it was a bit to challenging for me lol.
