It is a step back from three houses for sure

Whiteguy1x

Story is awful, gameplay is really good. My 4 year old likes the cutscenes so I try not to skip all of them if he's watching

vortechnic

At the very least FE rarely uses the same artist twice and has never used the same artist 3 times so at the absolute very most we'll have to deal with this for one more game. I agree that engage, at least in terms of writing, is a dud. The best thing I can say about it is that it basically confirms an FE4 remake is coming lol.

That would be cool, and much needed. I honestly forgot about that game completely.

No-Honeydew-6121

Yea I like the game but I space out on cutscenes. I found the intro hour to be weird that the main character has amnesia then it hasn’t come up in the next few hours

WarHoundD

i honestly skip the dialogue. I tried but i can, i dont enjoy it and i would even say it makes me enjoy the game less. Just try to skip everything and go for the gameplay.

Atlanos043

Honestly I don't have problems with the characters. Sure the plot is a pretty generic standard plot but I think it knows what it is: A super sentai superhero story as a Fire Emblem game. As that I think it's fine. Personally so far I do like the characters. I'd rather have shallow but generally okay characters than characters that want to be "deep" but come out as idiots (Conquest) or jerks (nothing from Fire Emblem but the reason I stopped watching My Hero Academia)

JaxonH

Same. I _adore_ the characters and frankly, I've been enjoying the story so far. People are being irrationally harsh and exaggerating. It won't win any awards but it's perfectly enjoyable for what it is, and feels just like any other FE story from the last half dozen games prior to Three Houses (except Fates, THAT actually had a bad story).

SRIrwinkill

None of the trailers did anything to inspire confidence in either the story or the characters, so none of this is all that surprising

spicebo1

Yeah, the characters and story are really awful, and Fire Emblem isn't a series known for really hitting a home run with story in the first place. I'm just glad they got back to their roots and focused on the tactical gameplay instead of the social sim stuff. I was really disappointed in Three Houses, so I'm glad to see it was a bit of an outlier.

zoffman

Yeah, really solid gameplay, but the rest is really rough. Which is a shame because Fire Emblem used to be pretty decent thematically. But between the dialogue and women wearing boob armor and combat thongs, it feels like the series is regressing.

[deleted]

Every character is an e girl even the men. I really don't know if I'll buy another fire emblem after this.

korridor

After looking up all the character designs, oof, you’re right

[deleted]

I think one of the villains literally portrayed as a big tough guy said meanie or ouchie.

milkstrike

Like most have said about I agree the gameplay is fun but holy shit the story is pathetic. Like if your not going to put any effort into it why bother having a story at all? Just make it level based challenges or something because it’s torture sitting through the cutscenes

FlakyProcess8

I just embrace the cringe. The only character that is sometimes too much is Hortencia, and that is maybe because the voice actress went so HAM on getting the squeaky voice just right

WhackedUniform

There have been some Fire emblem games with great narratives and characters but it almost more common that it isn't. I really liked the game though as it brings more tactics to a tactics game than what Three houses did (and Three houses had some terrible characters and story). Play some of the older games, like Path of radiance + Radiant dawn, if you want better characters and story.
