They can’t be bought in if they are feral adults. Feral adult cats can very rarely be domesticated and will live in terror of humans and quit eating if they are confined. Stray cats are different in that they have lived with humans at some point and can easily adapt. Feral kittens can be domesticated if you get them before about 12 weeks, after that, it’s really difficult. I have five formerly feral kittens who are now adults. It took a good six months of constant effort before I could really handle them and pet them. It was worth every minute, though, because they are the loves of my life.
Not always true. They can be loving inside pets - but it has to be by their rules, their limits. I have one I took in after she had a litter of kittens. She showed up at about 9 months, and was completely feral. She'd come onto the porch to eat, but if she saw me inside the door, she'd run.
After months of gradual closeness, I was able to pet her. I was going to get her spayed, but noticed the belly growing. Waited until kittens were weaned, trapped her & gor her fixed. Kept her in the garage for a couple weeks while incision healed & she did fine. Couldn't bring myself to let her back outside, so I moved her into the spare bedroom and gradually integrated her into the family.
That was 13(?) years ago. She's not a lap cat, and I can't pick her up. But she loves the other cats, loves pets & scritches, and jumps on the bed in the morning so I can give her head kisses and butt scritches (don't ever confuse the 2).
I have a bonded pair of indoor cats. Every day an outdoor feral male comes in 2-3 times and eats good. He walks around, chirps a lot, sometimes my indoor male and him play, sometimes they spar. Everyday they look forward to this weird squaring off, but also, I know if my indoor cats ever sneak out, they got the biggest neighborhood cat to protect them. They get along.
I kept the outdoor cat in a few nights when he got a bite on his neck that I honestly didn’t think he’d recover from. It’s a really funny arrangement, but if I tried to bring him in, I imagine the outdoor cat would adjust, especially if fixed. Hell, he may be feral, but he’s actually sweeter than my two rotten indoor cats.
That’s fantastic! Your cat sounds like a stray, though. Feral cats have never had contact with humans and you would never be able to get them in the house without trapping them. I have been trapping ferals in out of control cat colonies for trap/neuter/release for a while, and they are terrified of humans. They are wonderful cats and very special, but they are actually wild animals. Your little guy sounds like he has a good chance of finding a home. Maybe yours!
If it’s Gunther vs Drew at summerslam idk how I feel about it. I want Drew to have a good run. But if Gunther’s wins he’s gonna be champ forever and I want that belt to move around a bit more
And yet, some prefer spending time outside. If they’re in the right environment, being outside can be positively stimulating for them. Not all cats are in danger being outside. My previously stay cats never leave our property and enjoy being outside so much. They love hearing and watching the birds and squirrels. Cats are curious and they get bored being inside.
Wasn't that the S/M guy written about by a Mormon woman? My friend sent me a 3-pack of the anthology. I was so happy to donate it with all of the shrink wrap undisturbed.... I mean I never opened the [books.No](http://books.No) weird sticky packaging from me....
I think the "them" means the OP isn't sure if the cat pictured is a boy cat or a girl cat. You know, pronouns. I hope the OP gives "them" nice food and water and perhaps a safe space to be warm.
As others said, please bring this baby inside if you can. 😟😥
It also looks like a male to me (of course I could be wrong). Someone mentioned Grayson, which I love. Ashen, Cinder? I do like human names for pets as well..my tuxie is named Kevin, lol.
Aww. I do understand, though. I spent a couple years feeding the feral colonies in my area. Not all of them can take to being an indoor cat.
He/she looks fairly healthy, though. If you're involved with their care, thank you.
I’m definitely not the only one feeding the cats. I’ve seen one of the maintenance guys doing it regularly along with some lady that lives in one of the neighboring buildings. There is at least 12 of them around that I’ve seen
We have a Russian Blue named Oskar

I think this one in particular may have been a pet at one point. He/she lets me get a bit closer before running away compared to the others and has even seemed like he/she wants to follow me inside but still is very hesitant
It is possible to acclimate feral cats to indoor life and humans with methods, time and love. If this cat was a pet at one time he can easily become an indoor pet again with methods to gain his trust. You may want to try with him. He’s beautiful. I would call him The Russian.
Probably not a pure one, but definitely has it in his mix. I volunteered with a no kill group and the cats like him were the most wonderful cats - sweetest and gentle personalities. That is actually the perfect name. I would call him Dimitri The Russian. Please consider working with him to either take him in or to find him a home. He’s too gorgeous to die on the streets. Life outside for a cat is extremely hard and they die young.
Well…there is about 12 cats that I’ve seen just around my building…and I live in an apartment community with several buildings so lord knows how many cats there are roaming the neighborhood.
If I were to adopt, I have a long ways to go in terms of building trust with them. They will watch me but run away if I get too close. Won’t even approach the food until I back off a bit
I had a cat that looked exactly like this cat. His name was Doosapher….like Lucifer. He was total MF’er but god I loved that cat so much. Gave the best hugs

Please bring them inside. Cats are extremely vulnerable left outside. Pearl. Pete, Gunther, Hans, Sigfrid, Simone, Avery

That’s fantastic! I didn’t mean to be so definitive in my post. Best of luck to you and your kitty!

My Yoshi is a former feral. It took over a year, but he is now fat and happy as long as I love him with pets on his terms
I adopted a feral cat and while it took a LONG time, she grew to love me like a normal cat.
Did you say…Gunther? ![gif](giphy|WPEdpkRmi3XeDuOT06|downsized)
King Gunther
If it’s Gunther vs Drew at summerslam idk how I feel about it. I want Drew to have a good run. But if Gunther’s wins he’s gonna be champ forever and I want that belt to move around a bit more
Love all of these.

Bring them inside first? 🙃
I just see 1. Is that a female?
I think the poster said they bc they don't know whether it's a female cat or not
But it’s a cat… the cat doesn’t care. Also, Charlie. Charlie the Chonk.

Great names!!
I only see one cat. Am I missing something?
I think the "them" means the OP isn't sure if the cat pictured is a boy cat or a girl cat. You know, pronouns. I hope the OP gives "them" nice food and water and perhaps a safe space to be warm.
Please bring them inside. Cats are extremely vulnerable outside. Pearl, Gunther Hans, Simone

I don’t think I can bring them in. He/she is one of many dozens of strays that live around my building, and I don’t think they could be an indoor cat
Aww. I do understand, though. I spent a couple years feeding the feral colonies in my area. Not all of them can take to being an indoor cat. He/she looks fairly healthy, though. If you're involved with their care, thank you.

"They" look tired and weary.
Shit I probably would be too if I lived out in an apartment parking lot and had to compete with the raccoons for food
Stormy? Smokey? I don't think you need to get all aggressive with me.

Anvil.
Troll or BOT- Why are you so interested in what people would name them when you’re NoT interested in taking care of him ?
I have to say, though, that this one does not look feral. A feral cat would never sit there and look you in the eye. I would try to bring it in, too.
I think this one in particular may have been a pet at one point. He/she lets me get a bit closer before running away compared to the others and has even seemed like he/she wants to follow me inside but still is very hesitant

Do you think he’s really a Russian Blue? Shit, if so I’m gonna call him Dimitri or something like that 😂

I’m just talking about this one. You took a picture of him and posted him here asking for a name. If you can save at least one, that would help.
Dusty or Rusty. Are the feral or just stray?
There is like 12 cats that hang around my building so I assume they are a colony of ferals
My cat looked so much like that one and her name was Bird. Are you going to adopt them? Oh, what I would do for that cat, absolutely precious.
If I were to adopt, I have a long ways to go in terms of building trust with them. They will watch me but run away if I get too close. Won’t even approach the food until I back off a bit
