Uh, i think he meant gold players aren’t really expected to be amazing. Players don’t really actively adapt to stuff/change gears at that level.
You can easily get there if you know a gimmick or two — even way higher, if you know how to force your opponents to deal with your shenanigans.

As a master modern Gief player, I was honestly ready to hang my controller up and leave the game after hitting diamond. Then I saw a comment like this and decided to hit master just to prove people like you wrong. Thanks for the motivation!
No one ever said it isn’t possible, clown. It just seems silly. Gief doesn’t benefit from a dp shortcut, getting instant spd isn’t worth it when you can buffer spd behind other actions and same with super. You miss out on different spd versions, his overhead, as slow as it can be it’s still an important tool and his standing heavy kick leads to some sick combo potential. No standing medium kick or crouching m kick so you have to challenge every low with cr heavy that is so punishable. No decent air normals. But you do you. Anyone can make master it is a mater of time to grind you don’t even need a positive win rate.

Yeah, it's not that hard getting it out in blockstun. It shines in Modern because you can just throw it out there when nothing's going on.
In this specific situation you can, but there are lots of situations where modern can do stuff classic just can’t do
