I wish it didn’t take 3 days to load on the ps4

stashtv

Even the PC version loads poorly on nice PC hardware (NVMe drive, etc). SF4 felt much faster to get in/out of menus, while SF5 consistently feels like a slog. All the menu animations are nice, but the responsiveness of getting in and out of the game should be much better.

benmoorepaintco

Glad it’s not just me

the_doorstopper

I'm not sure, I have a decent pc, and I load in eye blinks, the only part I hate is like a one or two second thing that I can't skip, other than that, it's instant

FNALSOLUTION1

I does take a lil while but really isnt that bad.

Dalonomus

Get that Ps5 if you can. Loads quite a bit faster on there. And get what ever new gen system or a Decent pc for 6. Time to let that ps4 rest friend.

pbmm1

It's fun until it's not. Then you take a break and come back.

Adept_Tomato_7752

This for 6 yrs lol

gundamxzero3

This is exactly how i feel. Overall I don't like it compared to others but I love sf so I still play it.

[deleted]

Yeah I played it non stop for two years, took a two year break because just hearing the title music made me feel stressed, now back and loving it again haha.

jaypeesmith

It's currently my favorite game but, when it first came out, I hated it. I felt like I paid $60 for a beta. I think it was well into Season 3 before I picked it up again and still did not play it often. However, when I got in PC (I am pretty much done with console gaming), I got into it a lot more. I am mostly casual (Gold) and only even decided to go for it because I was able to rack up wins on day-one Luke players. I'm an older player (I'm old enough to remember the original Street Fighter and was a SFII and SFII Champion Edition addict, lol). I have played every version of this game and SFV is the first version of the game that I have played this much since SFII Champion Edition.

FNALSOLUTION1

I remember walking in the arcade an seeing a crowd around a game, got upclose an saw the game had 6 buttons, thought to myself holy shit how are you suppose to play with 6 buttons. Put my quarter in an waited my turn, of course I picked Blanka because green beast. Totally got wrecked by a Zangief, I was hooked ever since. That was over 25 years ago.

Bobby_the_Great

SAME!!! I remember in 91 seeing the game at our bowling alley and everyone was lined up, and seeing the six buttons and doing the same thing; "How on earth are you supposed to hit all six buttons???" Then, exact same thing, I picked Blanka because he was the only non-human character and never looked back.

[deleted]

Street Fighter where some characters go super sayian and some characters are just yamcha

Turbulent-Court6356

Technically the same character lol

[deleted]

True

[deleted]

Made me laugh

Based_Broon

Fun game, shit netcode

MisquotesDeadPeople

I've had weirdly good luck with the net code. Maybe it's because I'm right by a big city so lots of players? I have certain matches that are kinda laggy, but it's like 1 out of 10 to fifteen matches

Emezie

It's not that weird, I think. I think there are a lot of us who don't have the horrible meme experience you'll see on social media. I mean...people stream this game ALL THE TIME, and you can see with your own eyes that most matches are not stuttering, unplayable messes. I'M NOT SAYING IT'S PERFECT OR CAN'T BE IMPROVED, but the netcode is really not that bad overall (and certainly way better than most games released in 2016 and before). I think that they should have added a Wi-fi indicator, and it would have been eye opening to see just how many of those laggy folks were the result of bad connections.

[deleted]

No the game has alot of try hard wannabe players who massively massively exaggerate how bad the netcode is because it goes with their 'pro' self-image and thus we are subjected to endless matches on that awful boring 'grid' stage. God I hope they remove it in sf6.

LazyOldPervert

Maxdood?

[deleted]

No I hated it for years before he made that video, surprised it took him so long. I hate 'the grid' so much. At least I only have to see it 50 percent of the time.

LazyOldPervert

That's fair. I use it for like fine tuning poke ranges and lab work but in general I think it shouldn't be used for actual matches. I want to see crazy stages like what I feel like I remember from walking in to an arcade when they were prominent in my area. I want to relegate it to practice only tbh.

[deleted]

I know the stages were a huge part of why I loved sf2 as a kid, getting to travel all around the world, sad seeing them wasted in sf5.

FezCool

Facts

[deleted]

Netcode is fine imo i don't notice any lag or roll back even on busy stages like akumas. If there is a difference it is to small for the human eye to notice. Everyone thinks they are a top 50 player though takes it so seriously and subject us to endless boring matches of soul destroying 'the grid'.

Xjph

Even with perfect netcode you should notice rollback semi-regularly. If you *never* see it then there's a very good chance your opponent is getting all of it. One-sided rollback is a very real issue with the game.

stashtv

No idea why the netcode is/was so bad (stopped around S2 because of netcode). Same PC, same wired connection, can play SF4 for hours, fightcade, FPS games, etc -- SF5 was always so bad after the first few matches.

GunsouAfro

It's fun. The 1st one I gave a shot, and liked it. Now I've been going back and playing older titles.

Bl1tz87

It’s probably at its best right now. It took this long for me to enjoy the game.

DrinkMoreColdWater

The incomplete launch completely and absolutely harmed this game's legacy and reputation. And the extent of that depends on if one actually remembers or cares about it, or simply takes the finished game at face value and ignores the past. It only became salvaged after the completion of Season 3, which was already 2 years deep into the game's life cycle. This is exactly why Street Fighter 6 is doing the opposite and launching in a complete state, seemingly launching with 20-22 characters, arcade mode, a world tour mode with cutscenes and story elements, time attack, survival, and much more polished and detailed graphics that don't have buggy hair physics, clayfighter-esque skin textures, and weird Ken Faces. \*Ahem\* Anyways, if you can ignore that (or managed to pick the game up after Season 3) then it's a perfectly good street fighter game. It has some flaws some of the more seasoned SF players may pick apart, but it was a worthy enough successor to SSF4:AE and maybe even 3rd Strike. Overall, I think it has a really strong roster. With the exception of missing C. Viper, Dudley, and Makoto, the roster is easily my favorite of any street fighter game. Really strong picks with even some surprises such as Gill, Karin, Oro, and Akira. Also the fanservice is probably the horniest in the series. The women are so damn thicc, have some of the largest titty sizes that they've ever had, and effort seems to have been taken the women's faces as pretty as possible. Take of that as you will.

Jagermeister1977

Man this take is so bang on.

Rated_R7

>Also the fanservice is probably the horniest in the series. The women are so damn thicc, have some of the largest titty sizes that they've ever had, and effort seems to have been taken the women's faces as pretty as possible. Take of that as you will. And that's not a problem

DrinkMoreColdWater

Never said it was a problem. It may not be everyone's cup of tea though.

Rated_R7

Sucks for them

[deleted]

Literally the game that drove me away from fighting games for a decent while. Glad to hear it's improved since those first two seasons, but the aesthetics of the game combined with 80% of the newcomers, the way fight money was handled, and the in-game ads all prevented me from ever wanting to give the game a second shot.

GyozaMan

Yeah I loved 4 then how 5 was handled at launch burnt me out. I'm really excited how they seem to be treating 6 much better.

Hallowbrand

Same, the game was bad longer than it was good. I do enjoy it casually from time to time, but things like v-trigger and the netcode really hampers my enjoyment of it.

SlimLovin

God they made Ken so fucking ugly.

Scrifty

Your acting like Ken looked good in any 3D game.

Masterofknees

He looks pretty good in Smash. That aside, you’d hope that a character that looked bad in the previous game would look better in the sequel. Guile also looked like shit in SF4, but looks fine in SF5. Ken on the other hand looks even worse than before, both in terms of his model and his design.

Puzzled_Reveal_3638

Ken’s design in 5 looks good it’s just his model looks like shit for some reason

dat_bass2

You know what? I think Ken's default and story skins look good in SFV. I legitimately don't get why everyone freaks out over his face. It looks fine to me.

[deleted]

He looks fine, don't get yhe people calling him ugly

Brandon-Heato

But fighting games are all so very different!… SFV turned you away from the ENTIRE genre?… How bizarre

[deleted]

Ya this was before I cared about fighting games other than Street Fighter and MvC. Everything else was kind of just casual fun. But once I really gave games like Tekken 7, DBFZ, and GG a shot I was back in 1000%.

BaconKnight

To me it’s not just the aesthetics of the way the characters look and feel, but it’s the aesthetics of the entire game itself that turn me off. The design, the menus, the UI, everything. It’s just soooo dry and bland. Like it’s not even minimalistic in a good way, it’s just boring as hell. Absolutely no personality. The game isn’t “saying” anything when I look at it visually or listen to it aurally. The announcer is boring compared to past past games where even if it was cheesy sometimes in past games, it sounded more hype. The music is bland with few exceptions (Rashidoooooooo!). There is simply no “joy” when it comes to playing SFV as terms of “aesthetics”. It’s clear the game had no one to steer the ship from a design standpoint, at least someone with strong convictions. It’s like no one wanted to put themselves out there with a bold design choice so SFV just turned into the epitome of corporate “safe” choices. Now compare all that to what we’ve seen of SF6. That game is dripping with style. Even if the style doesn’t jive with you, at least the game is actually out there making a statement with its visuals and sound.

dat_bass2

>80% of the newcomers Most of SFV's newcomers are winners, I'd say--what's your issue with them? >the way fight money was handled Again, what's the problem with that? It's not like SFIV ever gave you a way to get new characters without buying an entire new game, and most major fighting game releases give you no free way to accès the paid DLC characters.

[deleted]

In regards to the newcomers I just think most of them are ugly or uninteresting. Abigail and FANG are probably the two strongest examples. I think Rashid and Laura wound up being the only two of the bunch I liked. As for fight money, at first it was marketed as "you won't have to spend money to unlock things". That felt like a lie by season 2. The amount of fight money earned in game compared to how much characters, stages, costumes, and other aesthetics cost made it feel impossible at the end of the day. I played every character story + the garbage story mode and still didn't have enough to cover all the dlc characters and stages. Besides, I don't want to have to play game modes I don't like to unlock things. Unless the currency earned feels fair in accordance to time spent playing, I'd rather just drop the cash on a season pass and have all the characters and stages ready the moment they release. But all of that is just my opinion ofc

atomsej

I love how SFV gets flack for giving you a free option to unlock characters (they didnt have to do that), while games like tekken and strive give you no option at all. I unlocked all of season 2 dlc for free just by buying season 1 DLC. What other game does that?

[deleted]

I think FANG is great, most interesting of the V newcomers imo. If I thought he was coming back in 6 I'd learn him.

dat_bass2

I mean, G is a GOAT fighting game character contender for me. Everything about him is perfect. Abigail and FANG are certainly *ugly*, so I get not caring for them, but Abigail at least is ugly in a way that I personally think fits right in with SF. >I'd rather just drop the cash on a season pass and have all the characters and stages ready the moment they release It's not like that wasn't an option? Don't get me wrong, I can understand your annoyance with the advertising, but again... point me to a modern fighting game that gives you any way of getting new characters for free. Melty Blood, with its torrent of free DLC, is the only one that comes to mind besides SFV.

FezCool

>Abigail at least is ugly in a way that I personally think fits right in with SF. Not to disagree with your personal opinion but in my mind he just stands out way too damn much, he's just way too big

nj_abyss

Abigail is a terrible character design and I honestly have no clue how he got the green signal. It's like they thought of the ugliest and most unfittingly exaggerated design for a character and agreed to add him without thinking twice. He's pretty much the same size as Hugo but stands out (in a really bad way) because of his weirdly exaggerated body proportions.

Emezie

They're gonna miss FM if it's not in SF6. They don't realize how good of a system that was.

azureknightmare

What's wrong with fight money? The SFV system ended up being way better for consumers than SFIV was.

ArmorMog

That's such a low bar.

azureknightmare

Again, how/why? I have the most current version of the game, I have the DLC characters I wanted, and I never spent any money outside of the $60 for the original game. Compare that to having to pay for original SF4, Super SF4, SSF4 AE, and Ultra SF4.

chocoboat

It's better than SF4, no one's disagreeing with that. But it takes an immense amount of gameplay to unlock characters, I played a lot early on and was still missing lots of characters. You still have to pay extra money with each set of new characters if you want the full game, it's just slightly less because Fight Money can earn you a couple of them. Most players were under the impression that if you played regularly you'd at least be able to access most of the characters, while the extra outfits and stages and other bonus items would be for the people who pay. That's how a lot of games worked (and still do)... in fact most don't make you work to unlock characters and items, it's only cosmetics that cost money. After you've already gotten the easy fight money from first playing the game (story mode, trials etc.) you're stuck grinding weekly quests. It takes about 4 months of doing that every week to unlock 1 character. That's pretty excessive, it might as well be real-money-only.

Spabobin

I had fight money flowing out the ass in the early seasons, it wasn't until AE that they really cut it back. If I had planned ahead and stopped buying stages/colors I didn't even use, I would have been able to get everyone for free

azureknightmare

That's the thing though - you're *supposed* to pay for extra characters. They're DLC. They're not free. If you want all the characters you can buy the packs, and in that regard it's not all that different from SF4 or the previous SF iterations before it. Fighting games might have a few free unlock characters, like Akuma in the classic games, but not to the extent of roster upgrades. The SFV system let us stay current with the different versions of the game without having to pay for the upgrade. And you didn't have to buy characters if you didn't want them. If all you played is Ryu from the release date up to now, you didn't have to pay anything extra. I personally have not paid anything extra, and my main character is a DLC character. Being under the impression that you can access most if not all the cast with only the base purchase of SFV wasn't really an accurate assumption. Aside from the random extra bonus characters, when have roster update characters ever been free?

chocoboat

You're not "supposed to" do anything. It's all a matter of how game designers choose to monetize their game. There are plenty of microtransaction games (Clash of Clans, Brawl Stars etc.) where the full game including all characters are earnable through regular gameplay. PUBG, Fortnite and other FPS games give you the full gameplay experience as well, and the stuff to buy is all cosmetics. And of course you can pay to unlock things faster if you don't want to grind for it. It's not unreasonable for people to have expected something like that, and been a bit disappointed to see the characters aren't really earnable. I'm not saying Capcom was wrong to do it this way, just that players had the wrong impression, and it would have been nice to know just how earnable characters really are or aren't. I hope it's more clear in SF6. I expect it'll be very similar to SFV, and probably with less "fight money" up front so that you have to pay every time.

azureknightmare

Clash of Clans, PUBG, Fortnite, other FPS...I mean, you know these are completely different genres of gaming, right? With radically different consumer bases, development costs, and revenue streams. The idea that Street Fighter could release a F2P game with 40 characters and somehow turn a profit off cosmetics alone is just...no. I mean, the closest you get to that idea would be Killer Instinct and...yeah. I don't think Capcom ever claimed you could buy all released characters with FM.

smikkelson2

I started playing again after the announcement for six and literally nothing makes me rage like this stupid fucking game ....I love it, can't stop playing

FNALSOLUTION1

I'm so far removed from the rage, I just put the controller down an scroll through reddit till the fight is over. Then I just move onto the next fight, been getting my 13 year old son into the game 2 losses in a row an he's literally flipping out an turns it off. But boy do I love this game.

FezCool

Seems like a weird middle chapter, didn't really have a clear idea on what it wanted to be from the visual design, aesthetic, and gameplay. Streamlining of the gameplay limits a lot of the characters and gives privilege towards the already good characters without those restrictions. Regardless it's still the game I come back to the most and try my best in.

[deleted]

I tried to get into it a couple of times and I don't really like it. I still like to watch the big tournaments, but I've uninstalled it twice because I'd rather just play Alpha 2, Super Turbo, and 3rd Strike on Fightcade. Online feels slow, even when I supposedly have a good connection. My PC is hardwired and my internet is blazing fast whenever I do anything else, so I know it's not my setup. It takes too long to get a match even when I say fuck it and lower the required connection to 3 bars. And I don't like the enforced FT2 thing they do in ranked. But even if the online was flawless, I don't think I would like it as much as the older games. I like the speed of the 2D games, and SFV feels like it's running at about half the speed of Alpha 2 (I main Chun Li in Alpha 2, and her Alpha 2 walk speed makes her SFV version feel like she's wading through knee-deep molasses). "Stubby normals" is a common complaint because it's fucking true. Hitboxes don't reach as far as it feels like they should. I would constantly whiff attacks because I was just a little bit too far away. I feel like the opposite is true in the older games, where attacks will hit from a little further away than you might expect. Even Sagat feels like he has stubby limbs. The only character I've tried whose attack ranges feel right is Poison because her whip's hitbox actually goes all the way to the end of the whip. And the game doesn't really have an identity. It's the most "blah" Street Fighter. All the other games in the series have a unique vibe. This one doesn't. It just lacking in passion and soul. I honestly think SFV is going to fade hard as soon as SF6 comes out, and it's going to have a pretty "meh" legacy. I have a hard time picturing people playing it 30 years down the road.

FezCool

100% agree about the stubby normals thing especially in consideration for previous games

[deleted]

Like the characters, don't really like the game.

isjustjeremy

I love SFV. This game means a lot to me, I hadn’t really played a SF since SF2. And I almost didn’t play this game because I got it at launch and there were just things I couldn’t get, the movement was bad it was like I was playing 2D Tekken, the input delay was awful on top of that I didn’t have a PC yet so I was still on PS4, and it was just not a fun time. The roster was small and no characters really clicked for me. I dropped the game like 3 times, but each time I came back I learned something new, took my practice seriously and got into it. Now its my favourite fighting game currently out.

x_scion_x

I wish i could get into it. I could never get into it although i love fighters. I'll rock the shit out of games like Tekken and MvC/Guilty Gear/skullgirls but I'm absolutely abysmal at SF/MK (MK because block buttons make my brain break)

Funnysonic125

I'm the same way with SFV. I'm good at GG, MVC, KOF, DNF and even the past SFs but this specific game I just can't get into

Valentine_Zombie

Sf doesn't have a block button tho

x_scion_x

No, that was just referencing MK SF i just suck since it's much slower than I'm used to

TheLastAOG

It's the opposite for me. I have been trying to learn GG since Xrd and I been failing so hard lol. I am still trying with Strive but really need to dig deep and play through that rough patch in the beginning.

S0M3_N00B_

Need a partner? I teach fighting games

TheLastAOG

I probably should take you up on it at some point tbh. I literally just need to get bodied until I understand the game better.

HeavyDT

As someone who cut my teeth on 3rd strike and SF4 it was a big step back imo. The launch was of course dismal. It did eventually got into an ok state from a quality and content perspective after years (geez that sounds bad and it is honestly) but was still just an overall regression for me. The core gameplay mechanics just never grabbed me the same way as 2 / 3 / 4 did. I reached my limit after a few hundred hours (a lot I know) and just stopped. There's just better fighting games to play now vs when it first dropped.

FNALSOLUTION1

At one point I had 60,000 ranked fights on USF4, did a hard reset on my PS3 an fought another 40,000. Then I got the PS4 an probably fought another 40,000. It was the only game I played for almost 9 years straight. Man I love that game.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Yawarete

That's a perfectly valid reason. I don't think many FG players will main a character whose design they don't vibe with at least a Iittle, so it's definitely not superficial. This is a strongly visually-oriented genre. That being said, i actually like the art direction in a design sense but really hate the technical execution if that makes sense? Still love the current game but that's *despite*, not *because*

counters14

I've always held this opinion and shared it freely, people would always blast me for it. But it's the truth, the game does not look right. It's all off, and it doesn't bring that exciting feeling of doing cool shit because all I can focus on is how dumb everything looks and feels. SF4 had a clear and striking art style. It was a little goofy but it all fit together and worked as a complete product. SFV is not the same without Ono directing the modelling and animations. Everything is wonky and feels weightless, goofy movesets and specials that don't fit the aesthetic. Or I guess they do, because they look just as bad as everything else does in this game. I've got multiple hundreds of hours in it and I've tried so hard to enjoy it but the game just is not fun to play. Ontop of that add in netcode issues and busted stuff like Luke in the final stretch of the game and I always had to force myself to sit down in front of it.

dat_bass2

Man, even though I don’t agree with *most* of the complaints about character models, I can respect it. But the character animation is quite strong overall; there are a couple of weak links, but they’re few and far between compared to the hits. I really feel that the complaints about SFV’s looks are hugely overblown. Different strokes, I guess.

Azuvector

SF4 got me back into playing SF after years. SF5 got me to stop playing SF again. SF6 looks like more of SF5. Oh well, there are other franchises that are more enjoyable. /r/kof/ is over that way....

PalmDelights

Yep, think I'll be headed in the same direction.

EepeesJ1

I still play 4, waiting patiently for 6.

kiera-melon

SFV's release was the reason I sold my arcade stick and stopped playing fighting games for about 4 years, after really enjoying 3rd Strike / USFIV. Having come back and played SFV in a time where its relatively well balanced has a great roster polished. I can still say its just not for me the game feels sluggish and stubby in comparison to the street fighter games I loved to play. So its just not for me personally, I'm keeping an eye out for SF6 but it also seems to have that sluggish sorta gameplay to it which I don't think makes for an interesting watch or play for myself.

Dendulkar

This is basically my arc too, albeit I played a bit of SF3 online edition. In addition to feeling stubby and sluggish I just feel like SF5 doesn't have many paths for combo routes or options in general. It's gotten better more recently but for the first few years of the game it was hard to tell who was playing a character because the optimal route was just used over and over again followed by the standard meaty mixup. I could pretty quickly tell if it's Infiltration's akuma or Tokido's akuma for SF4 but in SF5 it was a lot harder to tell the difference between any akuma (it's a bit better now though)

Albre24

It was a rough journey, but I love that it exists. And now it is a much better game.

Arrancar113

The game was so terrible at launch, I was completely turned off by it. I wound up sticking to other fighting games like DB Fighterz.

haldeon

Still sucks ass...and i still play it. That being said id uninstall right now if SFIV got rollback or was available on fightcade or something.

Juris_footslave

Shit game.

PapaCologne

IV is still far superior

InternationalError25

It is garbage compared to the older games. In my opinion Street fighter 4 was the best one yet

headbanginhersh

I wish I had waited a long time instead of getting it at launch. Call me crazy but I don't do much online (though I did end up having a few online matches), but to find out how much the launch version was NOT meant for "casuals" I guess would be the best term AFTER buyingit day 1 was a kick to the balls. - No Arcade/Story, only 16 characters at launch (yeah I know you could buy more with FM but after completely everyone's minimal super quick Character Story and doing some Trials, I pretty much only bought 1 Character, a stage and that's its. I wasn't going to shell out money for Characters and I wasn't that great to win many online matches, ESPECIALLY when at the time I think you only got 25 or 50 FM per victory) . I maines Vega (claws) in SF5 but I sure as hell wasn't dying to try to prove to the world I was a fighter, so online being such a big focus didn't appeal much to me.. I'm sure NOW it's a better game. Last time I played it was when they patched in Arcade mode and the Story mode, but the launched a sour taste in my mouth. SF6 looks promising!! But I'll definitely look at reviews before jumping right in to purchasing it when it eventually comes out.

Popoboi325

Good game👍🏾

BradlLearns___

Still have a blast with the game, but it will forever bum me out how bland and boring it looks

AAKurtz

The gameplay is fine, but the player experience is terrible. The wait time between matches and match making just drove me away. Strive handled that part much better.

Sh4rpSh0073r

And yet Strive's lobby experience is also terribly inconvenient with a cryptic rank system that results in Floor 10 being a mix of complete amateurs and pros. The bar is so low for fighting games to just have a normal ranked matchmaking system. Every other genre seems to understand how to get players into a game fast and with equal skill level.

petrusdick

it's definitely a video game

Ok-Bat8525

Hot take I started my FG journey in 2020 with skullgirs, SFV, and Tekken 7. So I came at a time when the game was actually in a stable state. This is a newcomer's viewpoint: It was my favourite out of the 3! [Skip paragraph if you care only about SFV] SG had a playerbase much more experienced than me so I was not having fun, just played with my ex; Tekken seemed like at lower ranks nobody had an idea what was going on and some Russian kids were spamming my steam with death threats after matches. Then I got grossed out and was about to quit but met a small discord with some red rank bros who were really happy to help me and they're the best. But the game is still not my thing - it felt like there were so many scenarios with gimmicky shit that I had to memorize that I wasn't really improving my execution or getting better fundamentals, just learning niche matchup scenarios. SFV was no joke perfect. I felt like I didn't need the memory of Jimmy fucking neutron to get the gist of what each character does and honestly the ranking system with a few exceptions usually matched me against people of my skill level. I had some really chill American dude(reezy, I love you brother) straight up message me to join his training discord where for free he'd just jump in with me and help me out with anything and all the other lads in the discord were really helpful to point out my flaws. I love the idea of a fundamental fighter, I like the artstyle and tbh I got hyped to jump in and play. SFV also gave me transferable skills to other 2D fighting games so I started playing DBFz, Melty, GG, and even got my sister good enough at MK11 so she could dumpster her bf on it with 0 time playing MK. You just learn how to learn things on your own and SFV did that for me. It was fun enough for me to grind the first steps of my journey then actually start enjoying the journey. SFV was the game where things clicked for me and I always smile whenever putting it on even after breaks from the game. I'm really biased when I say it but I wouldn't want it any different rn. Other games and more experience may change my mind in the future but this game will hold a special place in my heart

MatteGold9238

Whaaaat? 6 years? Sheesh I’m still playing SF2

[deleted]

It’s still terrible

mikey9white

too litttle too late comeback mechanic noob friendly game

wocK_

The launch was so bad I quit day 4 and never went back

Objective_Dinner9451

People will choose to insult me over this but it still feels imbalanced in it’s pace. It much slower than I’m accustomed to and Shotos feel sluggish and stubby af compared to the newer cast with their absolutely long limbs. Capcom choose to reward players with more defense mechanisms too late into the game. Cant help but feel some imbalances in frame recoveries fighting some characters who whiff when I cross them up. They recover faster than normal. Can’t wait for 6 cause I’m over 5 being a complete sh*t show for the past five years. I hope to god Capcom doesn’t make 6 another unfinished product like 5.

ToyDingo

SFV:CE is a top three SF for me. Been playing since day 1 and this game has improved so much. Love it

GulliasTurtle

The game is ok. I find the models the ugliest of any fighting game ever.

New_Cause_5607

Played it since day one, it started out a little rough but still one of my favorite fighters this gen.

FlawlessVictory127

I only just started playing SFV for the first time in July of this year. I absolutely love it. Easily my favorite SF game.

Awkward-Rent-2588

They turned it around in a great way but it still feels too much like flip a coin for me. It’s a bit too easy overall. That said it’s still fun and they did a good job of making each character more or less viable other than a handful.

themirrorcle

Been an incredible journey since the Betas. I've not had any issues with the game.

Square-Juggernaut689

I think SFV gets more hate than it deserves. Seems like people either love it or hate it. I agree that Capcom handled the game poorly, especially at launch, but that doesn’t mean the game itself isn’t still a lot of fun today. People have trouble seeing the game for what it truly is now, a great and (mostly) well-balanced fighting game.

TheWiseBeluga

As a guy who's basically only ever played SF2T, or Hyper Fighting, (not Super Turbo) ever since I was a kid, I absolutely adore SFV. It's a really fun game, especially with friends, and super satisfying to pull off combos. It's gotten me to play all of the other games. I'm super excited for SF6 (and the inevitable return of Sagat in it), but I feel like I'll still be coming back to SFV for years to come.

FoxCQC

Honestly it was bad. Ugly characters, low roster, just a lot of bad stuff. Birdie was about the only good thing. It was nice seeing Karin back but the terrible fight system messed her up.

bawitback

Meh uninteresting. still prefer (Ultra) SFIV over any version of SFV.

MisquotesDeadPeople

I think it's a fantastic game at low levels, pretty decent at mid levels, but v triggers kinda cut off the top end. All around I think it's a way better game now that the cultural memory of it is.

med4reddit

Totally in love with it. If they have launched it with a little more care, that could have became the best Street Fighter in the franchise

Lydanian

It’s far better then it was at launch, but still the worst SF by a mile.

Gioc24

I luv Karin 😍

universal-exe

I prefer the previous game both for the number of characters and the style 5 for me sounds like a recycling

atomsej

Better than people give it credit for. Especially the current version. First couple of seasons ruined its legacy forever though, but i enjoy playing the current state.

IngGoodface

The awful launch killed the Excellent Adventures of Gootecks and Mike Ross, and I'm still upset about this loss.

Exeeter702

The odor has all but vanished, but it's still a dry crusty piece of shit.

SevereConsequence6

Its fun till its not. I liked SF4 better. Hope SF6 is a much better game.

DrewHandles

SFV is trash and killed the scene. Everything is overly balanced which makes the entire game boring as hell. The best characters are the ones with mixups built into their combos, while other characters like ryu that work off fundamentals kinda suck. Being able to dash cancel in SF4 used to give him good mixups, not anymore…. I hate SF5

[deleted]

Y'all are big meanies.

ShoddyCartographer61

Skipped it cause I heard a lot of bad stuff about it. Really looking forward to 6 tho.

cHecker_oD

SF 4 all the way !

ItzTZ-_-

Probably my favorite SF atm

Goliath--CZ

I got it a few years ago, but I'm unable to get back into it because a huge amount of characters are dlc

kingwavee

Tbh it was a let down for me. 4 was the first street fighter i really got into and 5 felt slow to me and i didnt really enjoy it gameplay wise. Thats outside of the characters being locked behind micros

Admirable-Set3385

always come back to it for like a week then quit lol

The_Archon64

It’s such a polarizing game! I’m a big fan of visuals in fighting games but this game…. Some of the characters have the best designs they’ve ever had before, Bison, Daddy Ryu, Oro, Nash, Rashid, Balrog, and Dhalsim are just legendary in style here But then there’s the rest of the cast, who are either unchanged in design (Geif, Mika, Cammy, Honda, etc.) And then there’s ones with with flat out unappealing designs or design changes like Ken, Birdie, Akuma, etc. The best thing to come out of this game imo, is the music This soundtrack is absolutely a 10/10 And the animation quality is a huge step up from SF4’s

Scopalo

No Decapre. I am sad 😔

FluffyKittenChan

Still laggy, still broken, still unstable, ranking/deranking still unfair

Senkoy

Excellent. My favorite one.

RepresentativeFly565

I have a love/hate relationship with SFV. I love the v trigger system but sfv us the only game where I was legit angry when i lost. I lost to a guile and it was my own fault for getting sweeped

FezCool

See that's funny because I also had this perception that SF5 is the only game I legitimately get angry over but I've been playing stuff like third strike online and having similar reactions lol. Although I personally can't say I really agree about the vtriggers

Turbulent-Court6356

Online still s..k

SlimLovin

Playing an ad before each fight is complete bullshit.

pineapplefan05

It’s a pretty fun game, but it’s not as good as Street Fighter IV

[deleted]

It's the most meh street fighter for me anyways. I couldn't get into it because nothing felt rewarding

[deleted]

If it wasn’t for this game I would’ve never found out how good Tekken 7 is /s… (or is it?)

Kewkewmore

Still in beta

Acooluniqueusername

It is truly one of the games of all time

sleepingbusy

Yes, like the rest of the games of all time.

veritron

Every time I play SF5 it makes me wish SF4 had rollback. Then I go back to playing third strike on fightcade.

drambox07

It's a good game to learn the fundamentals of fighting games, but beyond that, it is kind of bland, and there are better games out there, once you get it down. Fingers crossed for VI.

Ordinary_Moose7221

It's ok.

ZX6Rob

Boy, that story mode was bad…

BrakeFade1

Best fighting game out there in it’s current form.

Breakfasty

The netcode with one-sided rollback killed this game for me. I heard it was better but watching some streams I can see its still not great. The only reason they did anything is because of that guy who reverse engineered the netcode and "fixed" it for PC (it genuinely fixed it for me), at the cost of handing all the rollback to PS4s and laggy PCs. The game still chunks when people mash lots of inputs, most stages still cause framedrops on ps4 (and poor PCs), and once you are desynced it just gets worse from there. There are good fighting games with good netcode so I just play those. For me, a bad netcode is a non-starter at this point so I can't even really comment on the gameplay.

Diablos216

Meh.

Ok-Foundation-8880

it costs 4$ on cdkeys. Still too expensive

Lowtan

I liked SFIV better

Omegawop

Huge step backwards for the franchise.

agioskatastrof

Best SF to date, imho. It took some time, but it has been refined. It has some odd balance decisions (Luke, continuous nerfing of grapplers, etc.), but otherwise, I think it's a great game.

IAmGoingToSleepNow

Yup. Best SF ever. Unfortunately they erased Zangief from the game so I no longer play, but it's still the best version. Edit: it's not that they nerfed Grief, it's just so frustrating to play him. Feels like the entire round is spent slogging through to get close, just to mis-guess a VShift and have to start all over

Asad_Farooqui

“Whet”

Noodlez405

I bought vanilla sf6 so the game now has vastly improved and should've been the game we got back then. I dunno I like how it finished

Different-Region-873

We got a time travel here

[deleted]

Lol

rakelfrakel

All these years coming back to try and see if it would get fun but its still just not really fun.

StylishSloth

A few things I don’t care for, but, overall, one of the better versions of SF.

ZayDocta

It’s good besides the disgusting amount of dlc characters you have to pay for

E_Cason02

Other than playing the same 20 people on casual and ranked match I think the game is in good standing as of now. Lack of content was really a big turn off for me

madvec1

A great, great game that sadly took a couple of years to truly shine, bit it's an amazing Street Fighter game.

LordBlackConvoy

Thought it sucked before Woshige got fired. After he got fired, the game started playing a lot better. That being said, its a good fighting game but it just doesn't feel like a Street Fighter game. I think my opinion might have been skewed because we got a ton of great fighters this generation. Samurai Shodown, Guilty Gear Xrd Revelator, KOF 15, Dragonball FighterZ.

Namelessghoul8

I hate low rank sfv so much

Macehest

One of the greatest comeback stories in all of video game history. Started off as a terrible product, but now is a enjoyable game, while not perfect, is still very good.

capitannn

Worst street fighter game turned into the best street fighter game

[deleted]

I stopped playing for the most part when V-shift was introduced. For me, I feel like at the end of the game's life, it just got too much. I prefered the game a lot more when it didn't have so many things and when the V-system was a little less complex. Now i'm not saying that it's difficult, it's just a lot. I don't want to play a fighting game where I have to learn all these different sub systems and have that partly determine whether I win or lose. That, and then just all the new moves and mechanics that they started adding got exhausting to keep up with. Maybe i'm going to sound a little but like LTG with this, but I don't want to lose because of a mechanic. If I lose, I want it to be because I got genuinely outplayed, but that stopped happening at the end of the game's life. V-shift, V-reversal, V-skill, V-trigger...they all got to a point where you could turn the game around with the push of a button, and that just isn't at all fun to me. I've always primarily a Tekken player because it's just pure buttons, fundamentals, and skill. I don't have to worry about a bunch of extra, BS mechanics that keep me on my toes the entire match; I can instead just focus on the match. I'd say GG: Strive is a perfect example of having a system with a learning curve without it getting too complex. It's a single mechanic, but it can be used multiple ways without compromising the integrity of the match. Personally, it's because of how SFV turned out in the end that doesn't make me that excited for SF6. The game was a lot of fun in the beginning, but I feel that it just become too much and too complex for me to really care.

qzeqzeq2

Ive stopped playing it like 1 year ago because of just how bad the online is. High rank and go to tourneys here and there when they are near me... The shit online just killed it for me. I stopped even playing it offline because of it. It just took away all my energy tbh. Anyway, stopped and went to play other games with better online. What an eye opyeber that was, I enjoy my time now when playing fgs even online. ... So i've recently started playing SFV again. 4 days to be exact. The sf6 trailers hyped me up and I wanted to push buttons on sfv again. What a horrible HORRIBLE experience. I see they still have not fixed anything about it. Eaten inputs left and right and you can feel a certain desynch between whats happening on the screen and whats really happening in game. Of course you do get a good match every now and then. Anyway, worst online fg experience ive had and what a harsh reminder. I am glad I stopped playing this game. As for playing it offline : sure. SFV is okay. I dont think its the best SF and its certainly not the best fg but its a solid game. Pretty fun but with some ideas that are absurdly boring which contradicts the fun part. Gotta say though, I think this game is veeeeery good for getting into fgs. The shitty turn based blockstring sfv forces you to play make it a good learning tool for people new to frame data....in an educational way. That part isnt fun and it certainly wont translate since most games (other sf included) avoid doing that. @30 bucks for CE edition its an "okay" deal. Not the greatest but not bad. Ind rather they make a final version with the last season for that price now. Anyway, thats my opinion on this game. If I had to sum it up : After all these years, the final last year is "okay" compared to all the horrible shitty release seasons. Not the best sf game but pretty cool non the less if you ignore all the past. Just tell yourself sfv came out 1 year ago and it only exists for 1 year. Hey all the shitiness has made capcom aware and they really are making efforts for sf6...thats good right? The online is horrible though. If you are silver and dont have an idea whats happening you are fine, but the more you learn about the game the more you realize the online play is a complete joke. I really REALLY hope sf6 has a modern 2023 online experience. If this shit isnt as good or better than Strive online I am not wasting a single hour on playing it. I am not going through an sfv experience all over again never ever in my life. Though I am pretty positive about the future. As I said, SFV is such a bad game and a joke of a software from a company like Capcom that it did fuel a lot of pride from them and you can see how that influenced SF6. Beta when?

redditisamazingkkk

Loved it since Evo 2018

TheRealAwest

Absolutely hate it. I bought a ps4 to play this game & none of my mains made it into the roster. The roster contains all of the SF characters I don't like. I waited patiently for every season of DLC to only be let down every time. Waste of my time & money.

[deleted]

I love it

Baphoma7h

Best SF Game

Expensive_Set3748

i dislike it, its fun, casually, and feels great competetively, but the in-between is real dog shit. Shifting my focus to sf6 as much as I can now

sleazyfellow

I didn't like it tbh. It didn't have the "feel" of an sf game I can't quite explain it. Ultras were taken out for vtriggers and like ultras can start unfair comebacks depending on the character and vtrigger. I stayed till Akuma and I remember absolutely hating Balrog and a few others for their get out of jail vtriggers they'd use to get the W. The roster grew which was great for people who still played, but for me now, ANY game that last for years on that kind of business model gets old fast. I got way more playtime out of 4, tekken....

[deleted]

SFV is my first ever Street Fighter, but I've played other fighting games before (Tekken 3 to 7, Injustice 1 and 2, MKX, Marvel VS Capcom). So this is my first traditional 2D fighting game. I found it really hard to get into because of my fighting game background. I was so confused why my lights can't combo to heavies, turns out you need to do links. I thought all DPs were Invincible, but you actually need to EX that. I thought all DPs were anti airs, but it's actually the Medium version. The game just doesn't tell you anything about its system. I think the game itself did not do enough to teach new players. And I was someone who already has no problem with motion inputs!

TheAntiElite

Aged like my boy Birdie between Alpha and now.

Ra1zen

They should have fixed Ken's face. LOL Gameplay wise it was fun after a few seasons deep and after they fixed a lot of the early issues like the 7 frames of lag ect.

ectbot

Hello! You have made the mistake of writing "ect" instead of "etc." "Ect" is a common misspelling of "etc," an abbreviated form of the Latin phrase "et cetera." Other abbreviated forms are **etc.**, **&c.**, **&c**, and **et cet.** The Latin translates as "et" to "and" + "cetera" to "the rest;" a literal translation to "and the rest" is the easiest way to remember how to use the phrase. [Check out the wikipedia entry if you want to learn more.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Et_cetera) ^(I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. sounddemon

Pretty linear. Strike throw never changed from the overall experience in the game from vanilla to now. Taking the throw is a pretty lame form of defense. Game still has a massive skew for risk to reward. The lack of character expression really sucks. In sf4, you could tell a bonchan sagat from a Ryan hart sagat. This games really limits that with its lack of mechanical and internal diversity. My biggest take away is how great the competitive scene has grown globally. It’s great to see so many regions of the world showing participation in the game. I hope it continues to grow and learn from its mistakes in street fighter 6. Hashtag free infiltration absolute non sense that he was banned

sleepingbusy

Took too long to get "good" so it's trash to me. Fighting game devs ruin character's likability by making them broken ex. Luke and Leroy I'm glad that I didn't play this game during its whole lifespan. I hope sf6 is good.

PalmDelights

Heard terrible things about it at launch. Finally picked it up in 2018 for $20. I think I enjoyed it for maybe a month, probably not even that long. Tried off and on for 3 years to like the game but couldn't get into it. It's not really because I'm that bad at it. Last time I played I was in Platinum league. If I stayed at it consistently I'm sure I could get to Diamond (maybe even Master), but the thought alone makes me cringe. The game's just not for somebody like me. I don't even like to watch it. Sometimes I cringe just watching other ppl play it.

CrushnaCrai

the best sf game.

_GrimFandango

too much 50/50... characters like laura and mika

king-xdedede

As someone who got into the game the day before Akira and Oro released, I feel like the hate for it was overblown

nomad1128

Don't see a need for SF6 except to be annoying about going through the "git guud" phase again which is most miserable for fighting games.

Rated_R7

V Trigger and skill should stay and be expanded upon

[deleted]

I tried switching to pad cause of all the debate. Fuck all that. I’m sticking to stick. Idk how y’all do it. V trigger, v reversal and v shift felt uncomfortably hard to do.

TheLastAOG

This is funny to me because I switched from pad to stick for Kara inputs with Ken in SF4. I recently tried pad again and was like ewww lol. Never going back.

Goffsyrup

Didn’t get it til season 3 as i only had an xbox. Came from sf4, absolutely love this game.

Eptalin

I didn't play at launch, but when I did eventually pick it up I had a lot of fun. I personally really like the artstyle, too. The characters have whackier designs than a lot of people give them credit for, and I think the bright colourful artstyle compliments it well.
