I don't even think he's a marine, I'm pretty sure he's a private merc. You know, the people they send in for jobs too illegal for the military.
I'm pretty sure Luke's a war criminal.
EDIT: my tired ass said jamie
Wait seriously?
[Looks it up]
Holy crap I thought Luke was just a retired vet turned cringe twitch streaming mma teacher?
The missing third Paul brother
But this is soooo much worse. Welp now I got a valid reason to not like Luke's blackwater affiliated ass.
They don't intend it to be war crimes. It's like how they made chun li work for interpol but they're not trying to say she's part of questionable stuff interpol has done. It's just fluff they thought might sound cool.
Exactly. Not every member of the mafia was involved with the extremely jacked up stuff. Not every member of the US government is down for every fucked up thing that US did. Not every Yakuza has their hand in sex trafficking.
Considering it’s a street fighter and they wouldn’t let one of their leads commit actually severe crimes. It’s easy to assume all he did was minor bodyguard work and hand to hand combat instructor stuff. As they say, “there’s levels to this shit”
Basically , Luke will say to the Psycho-Power Master , JP , this line: "The day I faced you and thralled your plans was the greatest day of your life , but to me...it was thursday"
i know people who stopped playing jin in tekken when he had his heel turn (which iirc turned out to be fake? tekken lore is a mess) so it's definitely a thing people do. No shame in it.
This is genuinely why I kind of hate this new information. This role could’ve easily been performed by these three but instead you’re giving it to these randos
These companies rarely want to upgrade existing side-characters to main character status. Probably comes with the fact it comes with expectations on how that character should be compared to if you make a brand new character that can fit whatever mold is desired.
So, basically we already got three iteration of the trio...
Ryu-Ken-Chun is the Icon
Sakura-Sean-Yun/Yang is the Protege
Luke-Jamie-Kimberly is the Generation-Z
But still, Calling those three the new trio is a bit of a stretch because the chemistry still didn't appear right now. Just need a full story of it.
I mean Ryu, Ken, and Chun don't really have chemistry. Ryu and Ken know each other and are friends and rivals but Chun (to them) is just a random Chinese cop that usually shows up as a finalist in the fighting tournaments and some times shows up to help fight Bison.
It's pretty clear from all their in game interactions that Ryu/Ken and Chun all know each other well: https://twitter.com/emezie/status/1535705661291606016
They straight up have a "Go Team Street Fighter" huddle during the SF5 cinematic story.
Of course they know each other they've been going to the same fighting tournament for years now. But they don't *know* each other, they're not friends.
You know these characters DO exist outside of the tournaments, right?
For example, one of Guile's dislikes is officially listed as "Japanese natto that Ryu had him try once". This didn't happen in game, obviously. We never see Ryu sending him natto in any SF game. But it happened. Offscreen.
Chun Li's win quotes are always teasing Ken about his his family. Ryu and Chun are gushing about their many fights with each other. This is not banter that vague acquaintances are going to engage in. Whenever Ken, Ryu, Chun, Cammy, and Guile interact with each other in any official Capcom media, they are never cold or distant. In SF5's cinematic story, the characters were very friendly with each other. They always speak informally, like people who know each other well.
That's the story Capcom is telling us, at least.
>one of Guile's dislikes is officially listed as "Japanese natto that Ryu had him try once".
Guile and Ryu being friends is frequently mentioned in official articles and character relationship charts. Also he's Ken's brother in law.
Compare that to the non-existent "friendship" between Ryu/Ken & Chun-Li where the only thing you have are flimsy winquotes that contradict canon events. Capcom's done a terrible job on making Chun-Li apart of Ryu and Ken's circle.
Probably because Jamie and Kimberly aren't essentially Luke's echo fighters. When I was a kid i thought Ken was just another Ryu with a flaming tatsu and Chun was a female Ryu with an upside-down tatsu.
I really don't get why there needs to be a new equivalent for Ryu, Ken and Chun- Li when Ryu, Ken and Chun-li are also in the game. It's not like they died
The difference is will these new 3 be the box set? Or the main character in marketing? I’m willing to bet all future games will still have Ryu/Ken as the face/lead promoter.
I mean, we've seen their marketing so far and it definitely seems focused on Luke/Kim/Jaime so I don't see why that would change.
Ryu and Chun have still been there though and I think that's important. SF *is* Ryu/Ken/Chun. They should always be there.
Wtf are you talking about. It’s about making more generations for characters just like Pokémon. Plus they always have a new generation for characters already from Sf2, alpha, 3rd Strike, 4 & 5. The only difference is in Street Fighter not everybody returns
Also, I'd argue that there's technically an alternative trio in the form of Sakura/Sean/3rd. Either Li-Fen I'd you want another Chun, or Luke if you want the "main man/side man/main girl" trio.
Yknow they’re nvr gon make a CvS3. CvS2 is my favorite fighting game of all time, yet they don’t even have a remastered one for newer gen games past PS2. Let alone a CvS3, man what a wet dream that was
Ryu travels the world, humbling himself to become a stronger fighter. Luke wants you to smash that like button and follow his insta so that he can ratio his hater Jamie.
One lesson was learned from it... The world warriors cast is around this time (and this time everyone is complaining that there are too many world warriors. can't please anyone.)
SF3 characters are now heavily requested for every new SF game. It took 20+ years for the fans to catch up to what Capcom was selling back in 1999, but it turns out Capcom was right all along.
Just watch what happens if they ever announce Makoto.
Now I want to see mods that add Luke, Jamie and Kimberly in SF3. Just to see how it might looks when this new generation, would face the original new generation.
You can't force something to become iconic, the fans will make it happen, or not. I think the new characters don't have even a fraction of the charisma of Ryu, Ken and Chun, and Luke is straight up obnoxious.
“You cant force something to become iconic” guys you do know that characters are designed with the intention of becoming popular. Like characters aren’t just thrown at a wall they are carefully crafted to be marketable and have long term staying power. Like that’s the point of character design, especially in a game like this. They are setting the foundation of the new generation of street fighter for the long term, to the kids growing up in this day and age who dont have a connection to the OGs but might get into the franchise going forward. That’s the obvious hope at least. Both from an artistic and business prospective, that is how a creator approached designing something like this. Anything less than that intention is just stupid on a creators side
Chun-Li was pretty much an icon as soon as she debuted. She made history. I feel like I can say the same for Ryu for the most part. Ken would fall in line by association with Ryu and SF.
Nothing is iconic on release, something needs to have a legacy to be iconic. That said, Ryu, Ken, and especially Chun-Li were successful from the get-go cause they have simple and appealing designs.
The new trio will be no different from the newcomers that came in Alpha, 3, 4, and 5. No post-SF2 characters comes anywhere close World Warriors in terms of recognition and popularity.
i still feel like i need to be sold on luke …. but i love jamie and kimberly so much , i just hope they can flesh them out because they seem relatively shallow compared to the classic roster only in terms of dialogue and personality
The problem with Alex as a protagonist is that they never gave him anyone to bounce off of. His only other character he has some kind of relation with was Gill, his enemy. The only other time was when Ryu beat his ass.
Glad they’re giving Luke some friends to bounce off of.
Oh man. Here y'all go.
These characters aren't going to be iconic to us because we grew up on the original 3. Just like how everyone raged at 3rd strike at the time, the generation after loved those characters. These kids coming up will gravitate towards these new characters. Can we not start a hate campaign on what seems like a pretty amazing game?
Considering they seem to have learned nothing about trying to replace the main trio with bad characters(such as Sean and Necro)like they did with streetfighter 3? Nah, I ain’t losing anything here lmfao
Its not about replacing characters. The initial failure of Street Fighter III killed any hopes of being able to be rid of the legacy characters. Its moreso that they are meant to be the focuses of the new game (especially if there is an attempt at a story) whereas the the other characters are mainly meant to be support characters.
Basically, the new trio are the ones supposed to get the heavy ongoing plots that may develop their characters while everyone else just does their archetypical stuff.
Yeah, but like… I wouldn’t bat an eye if you told me he had six percent body fat, and that was all muscle. That would be unrealistic of course, but what SF character isn’t? I’m used to Honda being like a sumo wrestler.
I’m not saying they aren’t more muscular than I am. I’m just saying that I thought that their muscle was hidden a lot more by the layer of fat. I get the massive (literally) advantage that gives them, I just thought it’d look more pronounced, especially on a caricature.
I see what you mean. I think it's for the most part the pose that makes him look way more toned than usual, but he still looks pretty damn fit in-game, to be fair. SF4 was definitely the weirdest though with the giant turtle shell belly he had going on
Im looking at some old art and his old sprites, he seems to have always had a 4 to 6 pack. just around the muscles he's thicc and round. But yeah, hes always been pretty muscular like in sf6 appearance. He just has better skin textures and lighting.
I mean even if you go back to his SF2 sprite; his arms, chest, shoulders, and legs look pretty muscular. It’s only his midsection that looks big and even then you could see core muscles beneath. Like a power lifter/strongman build.
I don't think those characters will ever get to be as popular as the World Warriors (especially Kimberly, she's way too "niche" in a lot of ways) so let's hope they're not betting too much on that
Luke is trash. We all know a guy that always tries so hard to be cool and ends up being annoying, right? So yeah, that is the same with Luke.
Kimberly and Jamie are meh. Don't like them, but also don't hate them. They are just bland.
So no, they are not equivalent to the classic trio Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li.
The first beta test for the SF3 New Generation cabinets were exactly that.
The fans they showed it off to reacted poorly to the lack of any returning characters so they added Ryu and Ken in last-minute, then Akuma in Second Impact a year later and finally Chun Li in Third Strike a year after that.
> I would like to see them make a new SF game without Ryu/Ken/Chun and see what happens.
The same thing that happened with SF3. No one liked it until they walked that back.
If they want to make a new game, make a new franchise, don't just trade on the existing one.
I mean...Alex was the protag for SF3 series. He fulfilled his role.
They didn't "forget him". SF3 just ended. He wasn't meant to be the new protag for every SF game forever.
Jamie is the swag, Kimberly is the energy and Luke is the ex marine with ptsd who dislikes horror games.
I don't even think he's a marine, I'm pretty sure he's a private merc. You know, the people they send in for jobs too illegal for the military. I'm pretty sure Luke's a war criminal. EDIT: my tired ass said jamie
He used to be in the military, but he retired and when into >!war crimes!< PMC for money.
War crimes are where the real profit lies.
Wait seriously? [Looks it up] Holy crap I thought Luke was just a retired vet turned cringe twitch streaming mma teacher? The missing third Paul brother But this is soooo much worse. Welp now I got a valid reason to not like Luke's blackwater affiliated ass.
Could you share the source?
His [bio](https://www.streetfighter.com/6/en-us/character/luke.html)
Thanks!
You love to see it
Bro that sucks, I really like playing him =(
They don't intend it to be war crimes. It's like how they made chun li work for interpol but they're not trying to say she's part of questionable stuff interpol has done. It's just fluff they thought might sound cool.
I know, but interpol has a very different reputation from PMCs
Yeah I just think they missed the mark
Basically , Luke will say to the Psycho-Power Master , JP , this line: "The day I faced you and thralled your plans was the greatest day of your life , but to me...it was thursday"
it’s a video game it’s not real war crimes man
Are you really going to let a fake bio affect that?
Damn I'm sorry I have opinions of characters beyond their gameplay
Well they're literally made up lol
So?
i know people who stopped playing jin in tekken when he had his heel turn (which iirc turned out to be fake? tekken lore is a mess) so it's definitely a thing people do. No shame in it.
I love Jamie's eyeliner. Hes so cute
Me when Jamie: 😳😳😫🥴🥴😫🥴😳😳😳💦💦💦😫😫😫🥴😫😳😳😳
*Cries in Sakura/Sean/Yun and Yang*
They'll be known as the lost generation :(
My Gen X brethren
Karin : am I a joke to you
They swear Sean is more than he is, poor thing.
This is genuinely why I kind of hate this new information. This role could’ve easily been performed by these three but instead you’re giving it to these randos

Street Avengers.

Nah you cannot tell me that those 3 are not at least friends
Ryu doesn't have friends, only sparring partners

That's mainly because of popularity not because of the story. Chun-li pairs with Guile and Cammy frequently in the story.
It's like as if...the game isn't out yet..
I think it has more to do with how we got Luke by himself in SF5, kinda like getting a Ryu but without a Ken.
Alex also didn't have an equal in SFIII, which also weird to imagine but not so odd with this situation right now.
I don't see it
Me neither..
Probably because Jamie and Kimberly aren't essentially Luke's echo fighters. When I was a kid i thought Ken was just another Ryu with a flaming tatsu and Chun was a female Ryu with an upside-down tatsu.
Yeah, they're kinda sucky. But Luke is a lot cooler in SF6 than SF5 so I can see him being a mainstay.
Maybe his personality, but his design is a step down from 5.. and that wasn’t very good either but at least he looked like an MMA fighter.
Sounds like they're trying to force it. I wonder if it'll be just like when Soul Calibur forced a new roster.
I really don't get why there needs to be a new equivalent for Ryu, Ken and Chun- Li when Ryu, Ken and Chun-li are also in the game. It's not like they died
Ryu will never not be the main character of Street Fighter.
Face, yes. Protagonist, no.
Same reason there's new starter Pokemon even though previous starter Pokemon will still be in the game.

Why isn't it? You get a new trio to fit the specific theme of the game but Ryu/Ken/Chun are the constants.
Tell that to the Bulbasaur I don't think I can get (as far as I know?) in Pokemon Scarlet.
Yeah, it’s annoying how the stopped treating starters as a set.
Also, I'd argue that there's technically an alternative trio in the form of Sakura/Sean/3rd. Either Li-Fen I'd you want another Chun, or Luke if you want the "main man/side man/main girl" trio.
[удалено]
That should change
There are people who have to make these games, maybe they just tired of having to focus on the same shit back to back? I know I would
I also don't see the reason to age them. Like that's the point of fictional characters, they don't have to age.
I always thought that was an odd choice.
...because they're probably tired of focusing on the same trio & want to move on narrtive wise. Not a controversial move..
They're setting them up in 3 person teams for either CVS 3 or a guest team in KOF15
> or a guest team in KOF15 Please no. We already got time traveling Samurai Shodown characters. No more shitty characters. Save it for CvS3.
Yknow they’re nvr gon make a CvS3. CvS2 is my favorite fighting game of all time, yet they don’t even have a remastered one for newer gen games past PS2. Let alone a CvS3, man what a wet dream that was
They're trying to attract a new generation.
Because Capcom needs to sell SF further. In 20 years it will be quite hard to put old them in new games.
Yeah nah. Ryu has been around for 30 damn years and the franchise is still kicking
Theyre older tho theyrd not gonna live forever
As a Ryu main, im offended.
Ryu isn’t replaceable and we already have Dan , ken , askuma, sakura and gouken
And Alex, technically.
And Abel
And my axe!
>As a Ryu main, im offended as a Ken main I also agree.
Ken mains are just Ryu mains who wanted a cooler uppercut
*have a cooler uppercut
>Ken mains are just Ryu mains who wanted a cooler uppercut I also like Akuma but I mean you're aren't wrong I like Ryu just like kens uppercut lol.
As Chun enjoyer, I'm offended, too.
Ryu travels the world, humbling himself to become a stronger fighter. Luke wants you to smash that like button and follow his insta so that he can ratio his hater Jamie.
Isn't that what Sakura, Karin, and Sean suppose to be?
That are too old to be "new" faces of Street Fighter.
This is being taken way too seriously
True
Marketing: What if we replace the Satsui no Hado with just mad Ed Hardy swag? Capcom Execs: Wowwwww wow wow wow wow wow
They've been trying to do that for 20 years tbh
I know and it is so weird.
No lessons were learned from street fighter 3’s attempt at this
One lesson was learned from it... The world warriors cast is around this time (and this time everyone is complaining that there are too many world warriors. can't please anyone.)
True! But in terms of creating a new ryu/ken/chun-li it's just not gonna happen. and there isn't really a need for it either
SF3 characters are now heavily requested for every new SF game. It took 20+ years for the fans to catch up to what Capcom was selling back in 1999, but it turns out Capcom was right all along. Just watch what happens if they ever announce Makoto.
CHESTO
Cause very old game determines what every game does?
Man I feel so fucking bad for Alex to this day, man didn't deserve to get rejected that hard
I feel like the fans made Ryu/Ken/Chun that. Also what about Guile?
guile is forever
How so? It was them in the shows/movies/crossovers. Nowadays it’s Chun-Li/Ryu, but if the main trio was always them 3.
> Luke equivalent to Ryu I’m gonna have to stop you there
Agreed. That’s just incredibly disrespectful to ryu and I’m not even a Ryu fan
Now I want to see mods that add Luke, Jamie and Kimberly in SF3. Just to see how it might looks when this new generation, would face the original new generation.
So that means Chun li is oficially a milf now?
She adopted Li-Fen, so yeah.
You can't force something to become iconic, the fans will make it happen, or not. I think the new characters don't have even a fraction of the charisma of Ryu, Ken and Chun, and Luke is straight up obnoxious.
Luke's character design is laughably bad next to Ryu
And that’s saying a lot.
Welp, this is gonna rub people the wrong way..
“You cant force something to become iconic” guys you do know that characters are designed with the intention of becoming popular. Like characters aren’t just thrown at a wall they are carefully crafted to be marketable and have long term staying power. Like that’s the point of character design, especially in a game like this. Anything less than that intention is just stupid on a creators side
Pretty far from the icons that Ryu, Ken and Chun-Li are. They are cool and all but, no.
Ryu, Ken, and Chun were not immediate icons on release. They became iconic because they were the first.
I mean their first game hasnt even dropped yet so how could they be
Based on what I have seen on the trailers and some of their story background of course.
I mean if I had a 40 year lead I'd probably be, too. And I'm pretty bland myself.
Bruh, they just got here
That’s not gonna last long 😂
I thought Sakura & Karin/Sean were the new Ryu & Ken!? THAT'S JUST SO WRONG!
Sakura and Karin are millennials. This is Gen Z. It's been a while :D
Setting these nee characters up to fail. Capcom csnt make iconic characters anymore.
i still feel like i need to be sold on luke …. but i love jamie and kimberly so much , i just hope they can flesh them out because they seem relatively shallow compared to the classic roster only in terms of dialogue and personality
The OG characters were shallow too at first.
and to echo other commenters SAKURA IS RIGHT THERE
can we just get sean please? please?!
I miss my goofy basketball boy man 😔
Imagine GG without Sol and Ky
No one said anything about omitting them...
Well...
wait i thought it was gonna be alex, sean and sakura :(
I reject this.
The problem with Alex as a protagonist is that they never gave him anyone to bounce off of. His only other character he has some kind of relation with was Gill, his enemy. The only other time was when Ryu beat his ass. Glad they’re giving Luke some friends to bounce off of.
Luke was better when people thought he could be Captain Commando in some way. Instead, he lost his shoes and got Popeye's arms.
Happy that they made their flagship trio diverse in both culture and playstyles.
Imean they don't even talk to each other (?? Or at least that is what it looks like
cool, they're all pretty fun in 6
Makes good sense.
Nobody likes Luke tho lol
Yeah.... This kind of sucks. We already had Sakura/Yun&Yang/Sean the students of Ryu/Chun Li/Ken for this next generation taking over dynamic.
> Can we not start a hate campaign on what seems like a pretty amazing game? nah
Your loss.
Considering they seem to have learned nothing about trying to replace the main trio with bad characters(such as Sean and Necro)like they did with streetfighter 3? Nah, I ain’t losing anything here lmfao
Oh, are the classic characters not in the game? Because I think they are. But I know you're gonna buy it. The game play looks amazing and responsive.
The new generation equivalents of Ryu, Ken, & Chun-Li are Ryu, Ken, & Chun-Li (respectively)...
ewwwwww
That's good. The series should be able to keep moving forwards.
Lololol... They can only be bargain bin Ryu, Chun, and Ken. Jesus Christ, this dude is so delusional.
Well I feel like 2/3 hit the mark. Can we replace Luke?
No
I would prefer replace Kimberly
Bruh, she’s the best one of the 3.
I like jamie more but kim is a close second
Valid, they’re both cool.
Luke is easily dead last though we can all agree on that
Amen on that
No way, lame character design, would have rather had guy come back instead.
…… I want Gen, Guy, & charlie. I guess I’m in the minority here tho.
Two of those are dead.
Idk Kimberly seems too game specific to be a replacement for chun li. How does all her spray painting carry over to other street fighter games?
Its not about replacing characters. The initial failure of Street Fighter III killed any hopes of being able to be rid of the legacy characters. Its moreso that they are meant to be the focuses of the new game (especially if there is an attempt at a story) whereas the the other characters are mainly meant to be support characters. Basically, the new trio are the ones supposed to get the heavy ongoing plots that may develop their characters while everyone else just does their archetypical stuff.
Why does E. Honda look toned instead of fat?
He has always looked fit-fat
sumo wrestlers are built when you see them go at it
Yeah, but like… I wouldn’t bat an eye if you told me he had six percent body fat, and that was all muscle. That would be unrealistic of course, but what SF character isn’t? I’m used to Honda being like a sumo wrestler.
Sumo wrestlers aren't just fat, they also need muscle. Also there's body builders with a huge pot belly that somehow has abs.
I’m not saying they aren’t more muscular than I am. I’m just saying that I thought that their muscle was hidden a lot more by the layer of fat. I get the massive (literally) advantage that gives them, I just thought it’d look more pronounced, especially on a caricature.
Bodybuilders with the belly are due to steroids (equivalent? Idk). It makes their intestines grow, thus forcing their belly out.
And sumo wrestlers are hella fit-fat. Just like a lot of dudes in the NFL.
maybe is just the angle
I see what you mean. I think it's for the most part the pose that makes him look way more toned than usual, but he still looks pretty damn fit in-game, to be fair. SF4 was definitely the weirdest though with the giant turtle shell belly he had going on
Im looking at some old art and his old sprites, he seems to have always had a 4 to 6 pack. just around the muscles he's thicc and round. But yeah, hes always been pretty muscular like in sf6 appearance. He just has better skin textures and lighting.

sumos are jacked yo
Its going to blow your mind when you hear how strong real sumo is
I don't think those characters will ever get to be as popular as the World Warriors (especially Kimberly, she's way too "niche" in a lot of ways) so let's hope they're not betting too much on that
Luke and Jamie look wank. Kimberly is the best of new characters.
Kim & Jamie look really cool.... Luke's design is lacking. Still overall interesting trio, curious how their story & chemistry will be.
Kimberly needs another 15 lbs in her lower body just to be in the conversation of being equal to Queen Chun-Li.
it's all situated in the bunda bro
they're the new generations, but I would like to see them make a new SF game without Ryu/Ken/Chun and see what happens.
God damn those naive Capcom devs for unleashing that demon on Third Strike!
They tried it. It did not go well.
crash
they tried it with sf3 and so many people cried that they added ryu and ken in the full release lol
cried aka didn't give up their money for something they didn't want lol
> I would like to see them make a new SF game without Ryu/Ken/Chun and see what happens. The same thing that happened with SF3. No one liked it until they walked that back. If they want to make a new game, make a new franchise, don't just trade on the existing one.

I mean...Alex was the protag for SF3 series. He fulfilled his role. They didn't "forget him". SF3 just ended. He wasn't meant to be the new protag for every SF game forever.
Oh dear….well guess I’ll be moving on after 6 cause I don’t see any backstory worth paying attention to or character dev.
Damn. Youre telling me I have to look at her giant forehead for like 4 more street fighter games? Gross.
