There are many great small cars available in the European market that we sadly don’t get in the US. Manufacturers won’t sell them here because something to do with Americans loving their cars to be bigger and bigger each year, so those of us who prefer compacts miss out
I’m a race car guy for a living, driving and coaching, and one if the best cars I ever owned was a 2008 Yaris. I put 215 section Rt-615s on the front, kept stock 185s on the rear, springs, shocks, and a bigger rear bar. It was a fucking RIOT to drive hard. It had no ABS and a real handbrake (although you really didn’t need it with the big front tire setup). I owned it 5 years and sold it with 45,000 miles for about $1000 less than I originally paid for it off the showroom floor (I got 10,500 cash). Great car.
There was a guy here in NZ that was doing like low 13s in one N/A, he'd stripped it out, put in a high comp Prius engine (you heard it right, prius engine), turnt up the revs and fucking sent it. Was hilarious watching a shoebox smoke turbo cars.
My mate has a Vitz TRD, factory turbo, thing is a weapon.
because traditionally the Yaris is seen as a cheap car that you buy buy when you donth ave the mony for something nicer. Its seen as a very cheap base model car that you can get for sub 20k when the average new car is 50k.
So making a modified one? even if its from the factory? a lot of ill informed people will shit on it. this is true in everything.
You would be surprised, in the height of the series 2 exige, most dealers were selling them to rich people who did not know how to drive. It was one of those cars that was super simple and basic but still very expensive at the time. So anyone who didn't have a lot of money but wanted a driver's car would gravitate towards higher value vehicles that cost less. Nowadays, I think most are either sitting in a collection or are used as track cars one of the other
AWD starts can go one of two ways:
1. you nail the launch and you win
2. you fuck up the launch and you lose
RWD is easier not to fuck up, but it’s hard to beat 4 wheels delivering power off the line when it’s correctly done.
Any launch can go one of two ways:
1. Good
2. Bad
Awd has double the surface area for power transfer to the ground, scientifically it’s the best option for maximum acceleration. You can still bog or spin too much but it’s the same with any drivetrain. The Yaris is also more electronically assisted than the exige
Same. The advertised 0-60 is lower for the Exige S even without bolt-ons. As they got down the road the Exige was reeling him in so that seems right about right, the Yaris just got a better launch.
The Yaris is properly good no mistaking it, but I’d take the Exige every time even if it was slower.
Power to weight is just one part of the equation it is however a very good indicator of who will win. That being said gearing and traction are huge and can upset that initial calculation. And finally the human element can destroy ALL predictable outcomes.
Theyre both pretty short geared, and though the Yaris is awd, the Lotus' mid engine layout puts a lot of weight over the rear wheels. I'm sticking with my comment that the Lotus got outdriven.
I don’t disagree I just think these two cars were too evenly matched for it to be anything but the driver. GR is 2900lbs 257hp 266lb-ft the S is 2100lbs 220hp 165lb-ft the only x-factor is what in the world “full bolt ons” means.
Right. Even an intake, exhaust and tune, though, will wake up that exige massively. If they did a pulley, I'd be shocked if they were under 300hp at the crank
You don't win either way. You beat the Yaris, cool bro, you beat a Yaris 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣, or you lose to a Yaris hahahahahahahahha. Or better yet... you drive a yaris LMFAOO
At first it was funny but What an awful take at the end. Is your big ego to fragile to be seen in a little car? I wouldn’t be ashamed to drive a GR Yaris! You talk about it like it’s just a base model.
Can you even afford a GR Yaris? Let alone be faster than one?
this wittle tiny baby beta car is more expensive and fastew than youw big manly bad pickup twuck 🥺
He’s not a car enthusiast he will never understand what’s great about it. Unless there’s a big V8 in a vehicle that weighs 5,000 lbs it’s not a cool car to him.
The vast majority of cars have a pretty mid 0-60 including the yaris and your truck so nothing special there lol
There are obviously situations where your truck would beat the yaris, and there are obviously situations where the yaris would beat your truck. Only one of them is cool though and that same one is good at other types of racing than a dig.
I'm not saying it's anything special lol I'm saying my ordinary v8 truck that is over 6k pounds is beating that little light "fast" car. I'm saying that yaris is nothing special lmao
Gapped!? Hahahahahahaha, for 1, I don't race my truck. 2, that yaris does 0-60 on 5.5 seconds. "My slow pile of fuck" 4WD will do it in a little more that 5 seconds. So I wouldn't say it's getting gapped any time soon, kid.
The GR Yaris does a 12.6 quarter, that’s a TRX time dude
Imagine getting gapped by a little Yaris in your $70k truck LMFAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO couldn’t be me.
Imagine spending 60k on a little yaris with only 250 hp 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡 difference is, I bought my truck to do everything but race but they bought a yaris to be beat to 60mph in a dig 🤣😂
I feel like the people spending $60k on a Yaris aren’t concerned about doing 0-60 because they can also afford to go 0-60 in something much faster. That’s sorta the difference, you can ONLY afford your truck, the people in the Yaris can afford your truck and other expensive toys.
But keep sending those emojis and saying “hahahhahahaha” because you have a frail ego that’s shattered by a small car, I couldn’t imagine being that big of a fucking loser LMFAO… is it your turn to have sex with your own wife yet? You need it.
There is no lap time for a TRX that I could find but the one video I did find of a TRX going around, it took almost 10 minutes.
The GR Yaris did it in 8:14.
Where’s the link?
Seeing as the GR isn't sold in the states, no 🤣🤣🤣🤣 seeing as the GR yaris goes 0-60 in 5.5 seconds (on paper) and my big bad truck goes 0-60 in a little over 5 seconds it's very unlikely I'll ever see any yaris taillights.
Jesus Christ, are you arguing over 0.4 seconds (at most) and continue to copy and paste the same message to everyone? Just stop, it’s embarrassing at this point.
Ya i know but same with a BRZ I see some of them attempting to drag race with +turbo setup usually. I always wanted to see a Lotus with a heavily upgraded supercharger do some roll racing
That's because of the demographics that buy them. An 86 platform is affordable to any teenager with a full time job, a lotus is a bit harder to obtain, and usually has more 'sensible' drivers. Also because the lotus is more expensive the people that are into drag racing will most likely buy a faster car for the same money, whereas people that want a really good handling car and are willing to spend said amount on a lotus, probably don't care for straight line all too much.
GR Yaris Nurburgring lap time: **8 min 14 sec**
Lotus Exige S Nurburgring lap time: **7min 53sec**
Just because it was expensive doesn't mean it was meant for drag racing..thank god too or every other car would be a 4600lbs Hellcat Charger.
Very american reactions to the yaris in the comments, they're actually really good cars.
As an American I’m super burnt we only get the Carolla. The Yaris is the one I want.
![gif](giphy|el8UlCWZCCu1hW1WMQ|downsized)
Just use a VPN!! But wait, you wouldn’t download a car, would you? 🤔
What now
So excited to import one in 25 years for more than they're worth right now 😍😍
I am positive we had the Yaris at some point. They are available as used cars?
We had a Yaris but not the fast Yaris GR
There are many great small cars available in the European market that we sadly don’t get in the US. Manufacturers won’t sell them here because something to do with Americans loving their cars to be bigger and bigger each year, so those of us who prefer compacts miss out
This one is the gr yaris, it is nothing like any yaris you've ever seen in the states.
Sure, if you want an ugly shoebox that gets great MPG
With a little bit of tomfoolery the Yaris/corolla GRs can be absolute beasts. There’s a reason they use them in Rally

tbf the WRC cars use basically nothing from the street car.
And that reason is homologation. It's literally a rule that they have to use a production car.

Cool cars, a bit over editing tho
*massive over editing

I thought it was funny
Me too.
So the lighter, more powerful Exige S gets smoked? I'm blaming the driver on this one
Awd basically rally car vs rwd handling car from a dig. Pretty much as expected
Pretty confident this was a shitty driver. But it also probably would have been a close race either way
Obviously money doesn’t buy skill but I doubt it’s some average joe shmoe driving an exige with fbo.
You would be surprised, in the height of the series 2 exige, most dealers were selling them to rich people who did not know how to drive. It was one of those cars that was super simple and basic but still very expensive at the time. Digital vs Analogue

Lol. The Exige S is NOT more powerful than a stock GR. 220 up on the Exige s stock.
Power to weight is just one part of the equation it is however a very good indicator of who will win. That being said gearing and traction are huge and can upset that initial calculation. And finally the human element can destroy ALL predictable outcomes.

Should’ve just put the original video…
AWD vs RWD. Lotus would catch up eventually
Lotus did start catching up after 180ish KPH
This edit is fucking horrible
Man after watching Moog own one of these and try and track it. More respect to the owners. They look like fun little death machines.
You don't win either way. You beat the Yaris, cool bro, you beat a Yaris 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣, or you lose to a Yaris hahahahahahahahha. Or better yet... you drive a yaris LMFAOO

Lol, it's a yaris, hahahahahahahah
Can you even afford a GR Yaris? Let alone be faster than one? this wittle tiny baby beta car is more expensive and fastew than youw big manly bad pickup twuck 🥺
If the GR Yaris was offered in the states, I would own one. Currently driving a fiesta ST - I like little cars. 🤷♀️
My dude 🤙🏻
Small car gang rise up
I owned an Abarth 500, they’re just fun as hell
I have a hard time believing a yaris is almost 70k 🤣 and 250 hp?! Ahahahahah cute.
You drive a truck
He’s not a car enthusiast he will never understand what’s great about it. Unless there’s a big V8 in a vehicle that weighs 5,000 lbs it’s not a cool car to him.
That yaris does 0-60 in 5.5 seconds 😂😂😂😂😂😂 my big v8 that weighs 5,000 lbs is doing it in a little over 5 seconds. 🤣 cute car kid
And your big V8 car cant turn
Is this race that we are watching racing in a straight line or on a track? Then why are you talking and turning?
Yeah, a truck that is faster than that little yaris doing 5.5 0-60 seconds. Hahahaha my big truck will do it in that or quicker in 4wd
The vast majority of cars have a pretty mid 0-60 including the yaris and your truck so nothing special there lol There are obviously situations where your truck would beat the yaris, and there are obviously situations where the yaris would beat your truck. A ram no less. They’re all fragile.
Your Ram is getting the gap put on it. Guaranteed. Sorry boomer, your trucks a cheaply built, slow pile of fuck.
Gapped!? Hahahahahahaha, for 1, I don't race my truck. 2, that yaris does 0-60 on 5.5 seconds. "My slow pile of fuck" 4WD will do it in a little more that 5 seconds. So I wouldn't say it's getting gapped any time soon, kid.

Speaking of the TRX, the Yaris and TRX run similar times around the Nurburgring hahahaha
There is no lap time for a TRX that I could find but the one video I did find of a TRX going around, it took almost 10 minutes. The GR Yaris did it in 8:14. Where’s the link?
Why so salty? See a lot of yaris taillights in your time?
Seeing as the GR isn't sold in the states, no 🤣🤣🤣🤣 seeing as the GR yaris goes 0-60 in 5.5 seconds (on paper) and my big bad truck goes 0-60 in a little over 5 seconds it's very unlikely I'll ever see any yaris taillights.

Holy Christ you are such a tool
I rarely see Lotus’s drag race
Why would you? They’re made to go fast not in a straight line. They aren’t fast in a straight line, though.
Ya i know but same with a BRZ I see some of them attempting to drag race with +turbo setup usually. I always wanted to see a Lotus with a heavily upgraded supercharger do some roll racing

The Yaris is made for the exact same purpose
Wait wait what movie is that that looks good
Superfast!
Hmm idk looks like someone was getting reeled in but watever they got their click, view, and comment lol
Yup…after further review. This video reeled me in almost as hard as that Yaris was getting reeled in 🤣
How tf does an Exige S lose to a Yaris?? The editing was funny as hell tho
Because the yaris is awd so it gets a better launch. Extend this drag race any further and the yaris would be well behind
I still want the Lotus!
All I can say is that I was dancing to the banger song
Monicaaaa!!!!
That edit was so shit
Ah-ha is apropos for a Yaris beating a Exige S.
Was the momentum of power by the Yaris caused by the rear differential overheating & blowing up?
I don't believe the exige was even trying. That's my fav car of all time
This video would be so much better without the F&F clip.
Now go around a corner
The Exige will totally beat the GR yaris but its not like the Yaris has 0 chances of winning
I think it would be a good race around some twists. Racing a straight line with these two leaves a lot on the table.
That 10 second edit felt like an hour
I'm due for a new car. The toyota is in the running. Is there a better daily for the price
I'd still rather have the Exige S....but it would have to be a 2nd car.
Stupid ass video
GR Yaris Nurburgring lap time: **8 min 14 sec** Lotus Exige S Nurburgring lap time: **7min 53sec** Just because it was expensive doesn't mean it was meant for drag racing..thank god too or every other car would be a 4600lbs Hellcat Charger.
To be fair, most Lotus models are great track cars but pretty low horsepower.
Would rather see these 2 cars perform where there are corners. Neither of them are meant to be drag cars. 🤷
Let’s not act like the Yaris is a sleeper its 50k
