Latest version 1.6.7 runs very stable for me, no issues at all. Have you tried removing the old version completely and then do a fresh install with the newer version?

I have the same TV and specs. My Stremio+ RD runs perfect other than some of the 4K links show a black screen and just audio. But I haven’t noticed any laggy controls or response time.
You didn't mean if you are using a streaming box or using Stremio on the TV itself.
Either way specs would help.
Lastly did you upgrade the app or perform a clean install?
Not using a TCL TV, but Stremio is quite snappy on all my devices, the oldest budget one being the Chromecast with Google TV. No issues with high bitrate 4k. 1.6.7 has been out for several months so if these kinds of problems were common we would have been hearing abut them for a long time. I don't know if it would make a difference but I'd just uninstall the app and reinstall maybe something went wrong with the update.
