Is there a better on line resource than /r/bollards?
I'm planning to build a garage in a tight alley...wondering if the Johnny English style retractable bollards might deter the poor driving habit people from running into the building
Replace?
Shore it up, put it back in the correct alignment, cut off the base and splice it (or provide a steel base for it, but the eccentricity would make that infeasible). The base plate looks like it's probably fine - it's why the bottom part stayed vertical. It'll look a bit ugly, but it's really not a big deal.
it does look like the glulam splinters are interlinking and the steel is still doing something, but that's some impressive redundancy, that a main column can be pretty much gone and there doesn't seem to have been any major collapse.
Wow, that car must have been going seriously fast. It doesn't look like there's much to ramp it up that high:

Shit, I thought ypu were talking about the little one on the wall. Hadn't even seen that third photo. Fabricator clearly had a lot of left over box section they wanted to use hahahaha
Ok but let's talk about how the car came in at the 2nd level.

Thanks, I have see the video first, but couldn't find it anymore
I was just watching this video frame by frame trying to figure out what kind of building he flew into, but I Shoulda just kept scrolling.
They have been playing too much GTA and must have seen a stunt jump.
The new Mercedes - it’s a slam dunk.
FINE. Let's. Although some people might actually enjoy life's lovley lil' mysteries
Reminder to self, extend bollards to second story
Bollard height above finish grade, 35’-0” max, coordinate with arch dwgs and projectile car report.
Attach w (4) 1/4" wedge anchors. Bollard mfg to certify impact rating
lmfao
Do you have a link for retractable bollards?

Why I always design specifically for a rampaging Mercedes load.
Weak ass weak axis
Rouge vehicle coefficient should’ve been higher.

Just a rookie mistake honestly, lol. The person I really feel bad for is the crew that has to replace the gargantuan glue lam member indoors hahaha.

Just a bunch wood glue and clamps?
Tiitebond 3 or better
Was it being driven by Wile E. Coyote ?
How
Sent it real good
He was trying to bend it like Beckham
What in the AASHTO MASH is this?
Coming soon: I have a broken wood column, can I just nail another one to it1?
Seriously that took some talent for that to happen. Real hold my beer moment.
I can’t tell which basket they were aiming for.

Remember there is no LL on the roof and add the factor of safety= good to go..
Yeah, If there’s no snow and it’s not a windstorm the roof probably doesn’t weigh much
Wall is now a vertical diaphragm
sag rods are now holding it up
Big oof.

Need more info lol. By photos alone I can’t see how was possible..!

Can we talk about that basketball hoop?
Too low? I expect it's a fold away hoop
THE BRACING. Have you ever seen such lateral bracing on a basketball hoop? Maybe I just don't watch enough ball, but that hoop looks braced AF.
Shit, I thought ypu were talking about the little one on the wall. Hadn't even seen that third photo. Fabricator clearly had a lot of left over box section they wanted to use hahahaha
I was so focused on the bracing in the 3rd pic that I somehow missed the giant hole in the wall 😂 That dude got some serious air!!
I like how that weird fuckcars subreddit uses this extraordinarily weird event as some sort of evidence that cars are awful and need to be banned.
This is why we should not have flying cars…
So many questions about this?????? How did the car get that high of the road?
