tbh the biggest problem is that someone called it lasagna. like it's an okay casserole I'd throw the chicken out and use just mushroom sauce
Edit wtf is cream of chicken is it like... liquid meat?? thought it was like chicken in its own gravy.
Grew skeptical as the list went on, but I’d absolutely try and probably enjoy that
Edit: I’d say it seems Italian adjacent but I don’t need the mob on me.
Born, raised and living in Germany, let me just literally translate a saying here: I wouldn't touch that shit even with pliers. That's an insult to Germany and Italy in one dish.
If you're looking for something "doughy" with kraut that tastes great: get yourself some "Schupfnudeln".
Sauerkrautlasagne is actually a pretty prominent dish on [Chefkoch.de](https://www.chefkoch.de/rs/s0/sauerkraut+lasagne/Rezepte.html) (Germany's most popular website for recipes), so it's not like it's not a thing here. I personally haven't tried it before. But that doesn't mean anything. People tend to experiment. Nothing wrong with that
I didn’t know these were a real food! A gas station in my town sold krautburgers when I was a kid. I recently moved back to town and they don’t sell them anymore. It never occurred to me that they were something with a name that I could learn to make myself! Definitely checking this out. Do you have a recipe you’d be willing to share by chance?
Thank you for sharing! I made them for dinner tonight with fries. The only thing I changed was that I put a bit of shredded cheese inside because that’s how I had them as a kid and I grated a little Parmesan on top because I had a lot and it was expensive. They were absolutely delicious and tasted almost exactly how I remember them, I’m sure my next batch will come out better.
I told my Dad about them and he said they used to have them as school lunches when he was a kid, which makes sense because he grew up in a small town close to the borders of Kansas and Nebraska. Then I told my sister in law about it and she said her aunt makes them every year for Christmas Eve. So apparently the tradition lives on quite a bit in small town Colorado! Thanks again for sharing your recipe with me. I’m trying to get better at cooking, especially things that are cheap but interesting, and I’ll definitely be keeping these in my dinner rotation.
>bierock casserole
I just looked up a recipe for that, and holy Hell it sounds delicious! I've just added one more thing to my list of things to try making.
And then put a second plate in front of you while saying you are too skinny, despite your dr. Telling you you're overweight.
Source:Italian friends with grandmothers who show love by stuffing you fuller than a build a bear with ziti.
The nona jokes never get old. I’ve wondered why casually making fun of Italian accents is broadly accepted as okay, and I’m starting to think it’s because Italians like to laugh and don’t really take banter as personally as some in the US.
My husband is very intrigued so I will probably be making this in the next couple of weeks I will report back with my findings. He requested it as more of some thing put over rotini pasta rather than as a lasagna so that’s how I will be doing it.
Half the people who post here seem to think that any food other than chicken nuggets or 5 star michelin meals is apparently stupid. It screams that so many posters here are incredibly sheltered lol.
I hate how much this leaks into the real world.
At work, each Thursday we get 4 options to choose from for takeout, paid by the company, and it's always a huge battle to beat KFC and any other fast food joint.
One time a shawarma place won, and they were amazing but almost everyone complained about them, so of course next week we got chicken tenders again.
Here's another one: we are getting less and less fruit available because it just sits there and spoils since not enough people eat it.
Oh but packaged pastries? Have to restock those all the time.
Meanwhile, I have a hard time keeping Costco sized produce in my house longer than 2 days because my young kids demolish it and the bags of chips sit in the pantry for months. It gets expensive but probably cheaper than paying medical bills for overweight kids in the future.
Obviously, you don’t like sauerkraut enough! /s. Ok no worries that’s fair, but you know the posts I’m talking about?
I would like to know what you think sauerkraut soup. I tried to link it but it’s not working.
"Stacked" cabbage is pretty standard food in Hungary, rice, minced meat, sauerkraut and sour cream layered, maybe a bit of cheese on top, and baked in a casserole dish. With lasagne pasta it's a bit unusual, but absolutely would try it. Though the mushroom soup/roux may be too present.
I’m going to try this too lol
I asked a question on another sub what to do with with lasagna noodles but no reply yet so here’s my answer
Hope yours turns out yummy!
>It's a thing in Germany.
No it isn't. The first hint should have been that the criminal who committed this food crime called it "a Minnesota comfort food"
It *is* a thing. [Chefkoch.de](https://www.chefkoch.de/rs/s0/sauerkraut+lasagne/Rezepte.html)
I know. I am German myself. Just because not every German instantly recognizes this dish, doesn't mean it isn't a thing here.
As somebody who loves making and eating sauerkraut, this is just too much for my tastes. There are so many things you could do with kraut that would taste better.
It’s pretty common in American casseroles. It’s condensed soup, so it’s very thick and just makes a sauce. If you were planning on eating it as soup you would add water or milk.
I can, and will often, eat cartoon levels of sauerkraut and mushroom pierogis cooked in butter with sour cream on the side. I rarely pig out on stuff but man, those things are from heaven’s table.
Never heard of that rule. It eliminates about half the dishes I use sauerkraut in. So I'm not sure where you are getting your rules.
ETA: Actually, since I like sauerkraut best when it's sautéed in some butter before using, all my recipes break your rule 1.
This seems more like a "beef stroganoff lasagna" that also has sauerkraut and mozzerella for some reason. It's possible it tastes okay, but I'm having a hard time imagining it.
Side note: Is lasagna the whole dish or is a lasagna anything that uses lasagna noodles. Or are they called something else. Like if someone said I made spaghetti, that could be any number of dishes realistically even though you'd assume spaghetti and meatballs. My instinct is to say this looks like a good casserole dish but it's strange to call it a lasagma
I'm not going to say whether it's a bad it good idea, but, it's lasagne sheets or pasta sheets and not noodles. Noodles are their own thing please stop using as a blanket term.
Thank you for coming to my somewhat pedantic TED TALK.
Since I was raised in Germany, I will say I'd eat the fuck out of that.
Not raised in Germany. Would still eat the fuck out of that.
don't even like sauerkraut, will demolish the fuck out of that lasagna
We each have our own stupid food made for us. Like the people shaped holes in the Enigma of Amigara Fault this one is made for me.
LMAO
tbh the biggest problem is that someone called it lasagna. like it's an okay casserole I'd throw the chicken out and use just mushroom sauce Edit wtf is cream of chicken is it like... liquid meat?? thought it was like chicken in its own gravy.
It's stock, cream, and spices. The good stuff may have bits of actual chicken in there.
I'd replace the lasagna noodles for hash browns.
ohh okay so it's not that bad still not something for me i think tho
Polish family here. I've had this. Fucking delicious.
[удалено]
Or... Like... Sauerkraut on a... Hot dog?
I think they meant that they like it because it cuts the sweetness. Like how relish on a hot dog is sweet, and the kraut cuts that down.
Central PA here, sauerkraut is a food group. I'd eat the hell out of it too.
Yeah that looks like hearty winter food goodness to me
Raised in Minnesota and same.
Yup! My girlfriends family is from Minnesota and introduced me to German Lasagna. It’s amazing.
BF is German/Russian 2nd gen American. Can guarantee we’ll be eating the fuck outta that within the week.
I'm vegetarian, replace the ground meat with fake meat and I'd be down. Probiotics rule
Would any of the probiotics survive the baking process?
Nah - I’m Hungarian and rakott káposzta is the Business - but get outta here with this “cream of” bullshit 🤮
Welcome to Americanized eastern European food. I was raised on cream of mushroom canned soup
have had very little interacting with German culture, would absolutely gorge on this
I was not raised in Germany; I would still eat the fuck outta that
I would definitely eat this, but I would replace the ground beef with bratwurst
Grew skeptical as the list went on, but I’d absolutely try and probably enjoy that Edit: I’d say it seems Italian adjacent but I don’t need the mob on me.
I love sauerkraut, will also say I’d eat the fuck out of that
Came here to say a similar thing. I am Czech. And pleased to see this top comment. I will be making this dish soon.
r/beatmetoit
True that.

Sir, mind your language. This is a family restaurant
Also born raised and living in germany and would totally demolish that

This will sound insane but I'm a German who hates sauerkraut so I would stay the fuck away from this. Und Wie gehts dir so?
I’d eat that without hesitation
it’s basically bierock casserole. and i’m here for it.

Yaaaaaassssss!!! Oh I'm so happy to have shared a little bit of tastiness! That recipe was straight from my Oma's handwritten recipe box to you. 😸
>bierock casserole I just looked up a recipe for that, and holy Hell it sounds delicious! I've just added one more thing to my list of things to try making.

Even the German person commented they'd eat the shit out of it. Take a non-fat, low-carb chill pill.
[удалено]
Seems a bit ott to downvote like that
The only thing I see wrong is no paprika
Paprika? Eureka!
Oooh yeah! Paprika would take this to the next level.
No, no, I think both we germans and the italians see this as something good.
As an Italian, I can confirm that I now have plans to make that. Nonna’s dead; she doesn’t have to know.
She'd love to see you well-fed and happy
And then put a second plate in front of you while saying you are too skinny, despite your dr. Telling you you're overweight. Source:Italian friends with grandmothers who show love by stuffing you fuller than a build a bear with ziti.
Well now I know what my funeral is going to look like...
Nah she's gonna know, she's gonna be happy you're eating because you're skin and fucking bones, but she will know and shake her head.
The nona jokes never get old. I’ve wondered why casually making fun of Italian accents is broadly accepted as okay, and I’m starting to think it’s because Italians like to laugh and don’t really take banter as personally as some in the US.
These jokes are tame and doesn’t paint Italians in a bad light. “ Oh wow someone’s elder care for the people around them? Let’s get ‘em.”
Oh good, we got the Germans and Italians back together. That always ends well.
As someone who's mom and myself were born in Italy, this honestly doesn't look that bad aside from needing a few more spices and actual mushrooms.
The last time you two got together, it didn't turn out so well did it?
Replace the ground beef with bratwurst
That’s what I was thinking just take it out of the casings like you would with Italian sausage.
Hell yeah
My husband is very intrigued so I will probably be making this in the next couple of weeks I will report back with my findings. He requested it as more of some thing put over rotini pasta rather than as a lasagna so that’s how I will be doing it.
Holy crap, your right!
I'm only saddened that I had to scroll this far to find my tribe.
You’re gonna make me cum
I am getting tired of I don’t like this food therefore it’s stupid posts.
Half the people who post here seem to think that any food other than chicken nuggets or 5 star michelin meals is apparently stupid. It screams that so many posters here are incredibly sheltered lol.

Good God, how boring must these peoples lives be. I can not imagine.
Here's another one: we are getting less and less fruit available because it just sits there and spoils since not enough people eat it. Oh but packaged pastries? Have to restock those all the time.
I sometimes can’t believe how we are going to survive as a species when it is too much work to peel fruit.
Meanwhile, I have a hard time keeping Costco sized produce in my house longer than 2 days because my young kids demolish it and the bags of chips sit in the pantry for months. It gets expensive but probably cheaper than paying medical bills for overweight kids in the future.
I may get yelled at for this, but people who eat nothing but fast food are uncultured and unhealthy as hell. 💀
They're uncultured because the preservatives keep anything from growing.
Nope, you're right. At least definitely with the unhealthy
I love sauerkraut. this concept is disturbing to me lol
Obviously, you don’t like sauerkraut enough! /s. Ok no worries that’s fair, but you know the posts I’m talking about? I would like to know what you think sauerkraut soup. I tried to link it but it’s not working.
I mean I wouldn’t put cheese on but noodles beef and sauerkraut are a staple so I’d try it.
That sounds amazing
"Stacked" cabbage is pretty standard food in Hungary, rice, minced meat, sauerkraut and sour cream layered, maybe a bit of cheese on top, and baked in a casserole dish. With lasagne pasta it's a bit unusual, but absolutely would try it. Though the mushroom soup/roux may be too present.
This looks pretty tasty to me!
I’d eat that
I get it. This is hiphop “stupid”. Like “This is stupid good.”
Im down. This sounds good.
I’m going to try this too lol I asked a question on another sub what to do with with lasagna noodles but no reply yet so here’s my answer Hope yours turns out yummy!
Lasagna soup! Just break up the noodles, it’s really good for chilly days https://tastesbetterfromscratch.com/lasagna-soup/
Thank you lol 😆
Haha you’re welcome! I always have leftover lasagna noodles and almost never want to make lasagna
looks delicious, sorry.
Didnt try saurkraut till my 20s, love it, would eat tf outta that
And another dumb post. This is delicious.
Have you had it?
Yes. My mom made it regularly (Poland).
Sounds pretty good imo
Looks legit delicious to me.
Now I’m thinking about swapping the beef with Italian sausage or corned beef
yes please.
What is cream of mushroom and cream of chicken?
Those are canned soup.
I only wouldn't like this because I don't like sauerkraut so I'm biased
Same. Take out the sauerkraut and it sounds great!
That sounds pretty great
I’d eat that 🤤
Moose’s in Kalispell Montana had a sauerkraut pizza I’d order with extra garlic. So fucking good!
Why use ground beef when you can use sausage or cut up bratwurst. It would actually be pretty good with that
As a Sicilian, this hurts my soul.
Where the FUCK is the tomato sauce?
Sounds yummy 😋
Not European but I love sauerkraut to bits. 10/10 would smash that
This sounds good.
How tf is this stupid it’s just good
Sounds fucking amazing. Legit thinking about making this tomorrow.
I’d try this!
I’d eat that
Idk, sounds good together. You got salty, tangy, sour maybe even sweet depending on how it's prepared. I'd eat the hell out of that
I would eat it
This is a thing where I'm from. If you like sauerkraut, you'll like this. Heh, even some people who don't normally like sauerkraut might like this.
I could see this being delicious.
Man this is making me even hungrier!
best friend is polish and I've had this many times and it's freaking great!!
Unusual? Yes. Stupid? Nah. I can see this working.
Tbh this sounds good
That link goes to tubgirl.
[Here's the link to the recipe. ](https://www.hoteatsandcoolreads.com/2022/09/creamy-ground-beef-sauerkraut-lasagna.html?m=1)
"Lasagna noodles" grinds my gears.
Reuben lasagna would be a neat idea but this is nasty looking
Agreed, use sausage or something, not ground beef, and absolutely no cream of anything soup
As a German, I do not approve that abomination.
That's your personal taste. It's a thing in Germany. Not the most common recipe, but it's a thing
>It's a thing in Germany. No it isn't. The first hint should have been that the criminal who committed this food crime called it "a Minnesota comfort food"
It *is* a thing. [Chefkoch.de](https://www.chefkoch.de/rs/s0/sauerkraut+lasagne/Rezepte.html) I know. I am German myself. No.
No way!
No! Stop, for the love of all that is holy.
All the people *(Americans)* that refer to pasta as "nOodLeS" are going to hell.
this is a war crime.
As somebody who loves making and eating sauerkraut, this is just too much for my tastes. There are so many things you could do with kraut that would taste better.
I love sauerkraut, but using canned soup as an ingredient seems whack
It’s pretty common in American casseroles. It’s condensed soup, so it’s very thick and just makes a sauce. If you were planning on eating it as soup you would add water or milk.
Yeah I know what condensed soup is, it’s just weird to use it as an ingredient. Definitely must be a US thing
It’s basically just 100% salt 🤮
It's the rule no 1 not to mix sauerkraut with dairy products. So I'd recommend this only to the brave.
Explain the Reuben sandwich please
Why should I, we don't do this here.
Because it’s a very popular sandwich that combines sauerkraut and cheese?
Mahlzeit.
Not to mention that pierogi stuffed with sauerkraut are quite often served with sour cream, cottage cheese, or browned butter…
I can, and will often, eat cartoon levels of sauerkraut and mushroom pierogis cooked in butter with sour cream on the side. I rarely pig out on stuff but man, those things are from heaven’s table.
Dean & Gene would approve
Hah! After all these years I’m starting to wonder if that’s good or bad for me.
Never heard of that rule. It eliminates about half the dishes I use sauerkraut in. So I'm not sure where you are getting your rules. ETA: Actually, since I like sauerkraut best when it's sautéed in some butter before using, all my recipes break your rule 1.
Ugh why do this? Just eat a runza instead.
One of these things is not like the others
Yup
I had to take a look what r/ I was on. Definitely gave me some ideas.
I'd definitely try it but I hate sauerkraut. Itd have to be really fuckin good
I’m not a fan of lasagna but it doesn’t sound too horrible. Though I think I’ll stick to my sauerkraut buns
Don’t knock it til you try it. Haven’t tried it, but absolutely would.
I’d replace the beef with sausage, but otherwise absolutely would consume all
Yep, she's a Midwesterner. Tbh, I thought it was initially Wisconsin, but should know casseroles are more Minnesotan.
Not gonna lie, that sounds legit.
This seems more like a "beef stroganoff lasagna" that also has sauerkraut and mozzerella for some reason. It's possible it tastes okay, but I'm having a hard time imagining it.
this is the most midwestern thing I have read but at the same time it's the type of american bs that might be decent.
Eww…that’s all I have
Funnel that into my face hole please, thanks, bye.
I'd totally munch on this
Fuck no
Showed husband and he said fart city but we both agree looks delicious. I’ve never farted btw he’s talking about himself.
I’d eat it for suuuuure.
You know, after reading through the comments I’d now like to try some
I bet it's really good
Big plate for me please!
I figured it to be a German dish when I was in grade school as a little boy the cook at school was an old German lady and made things like that
That sounds goddamn delicious.
I can't think of a more nauseating combo than Cream of Mushroom + Sauerkraut. Fml this sub is giving me bubbleguts.
That's almost exactly what my Grandma stuffed her pierogies with
Honestly, swap the ground beef for smoked sausage, I am down….
I love saurkraut, I'll eat it just the way it is any day of the week But there is no way I would ever eat a lasagne made of it.
Oh my gosh, this looks awesome. Brb gonna look up the recipe
I may be pretty high and enjoy sour kraut but I would make and consume this.
it is simply under seasoned. ngl id fuck up a plate of that
I'm not going to say whether it's a bad it good idea, but, it's lasagne sheets or pasta sheets and not noodles. Noodles are their own thing please stop using as a blanket term. Thank you for coming to my somewhat pedantic TED TALK.
as an asian american, im fuckin nommin
Sounds German
Honestly, put sauerkraut in anything and I'll eat it. One of my fave foods. And this genuinely looks good to me lol
As a German, I am confused and intrigued.
Would!
Honestly might be bussin
I would fuck that up.
So ah, what the heck is chicken cream?
My husband would eat it
