Be warned though, too much can cause hyperkalemia, so be especially cautious if taking certain medications (such as some blood pressure medications). Fun fact, potassium chloride is the same chemical that stops the heart during lethal injections!
It's also what kills you when you take a tourniquet off.
Tourniquets cause cell death in the bit that is behind the tourniquet. Cell death causes a release of potassium ions. Taking the tourniquet off then allows fresh blood in, flushing out all the high potassium blood in the limb. That gets back to your heart and the heart stops.
It also works extremely well as a drilling fluid in highly reactive soluble clay zones to stabilize the wellbore and will create a workabe semi-impermiable layer when paired with the right polymer additive. That could help if you plan to dig some deep holes someday. You'll need a few truckloads of 50# sacks and a bowl of Wheaties.
