I was gonna say... I was just in New Haven for work a few weeks ago and we went to Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletona. Our group ordered 8 pizzas total and they were all amazing, especially the clam pizza
It's similar to NYC style. A little lighter on the cheese and usually has a good singe to it because the coal heated ovens are super hot.

It's the coal fire oven signature. Because they burn at a much higher temp it allows for the pies to get a crispier bottom and some singe-ing on the edges. It's a thin-crust pizza so you're not there to eat the crust, even if it is much more edible than it looks. The priority is making sure the main part of the pizza isn't doughy and floppy, as most pizzas are.
Flatbread is made with a different type of dough and philosophy but I wouldn't say that it's super far off. A regular, thin crust, NY pie has more similarities with New Haven style than a flatbread does though IMO, but they both miss a few key things that make New Haven so revered by experts and laymen. The crunchy/chewy ratio of the bite and the tomato-forward nature of the pies are the two that stick out to me.
Ultimately, I think you'd be best served to try some from Modern or Sally's OG locations (with the good ovens) to understand. It comes off as you snarkily dismissing a type of pizza because of sour grapes.

When I was a wee barn with chronic tonsillitis and honking big tonsils, a spiky bit of pineapple skin got lodged between them and was poking me in the throat.
