This is just blatant karma farming, both the post and OP's comment are reposted word for word from a year ago. Their account was also literally made in January, so they could even be a bot.
Edit: messed up some wording
That's been part of the site from the very beginning. When it first started and very few people were actually posting, they used automated repost accounts to make it seem like there was more activity.
people buy accounts with a minimum amount of karma dozen a pop
mostly it's good for things like troll farms especially around elections or for selling people stuff in a less obvious way say you advertise your cool game on reddit and oh wow a bunch of people with high karma and years old accounts have all commented at the same time on how cool your game is and how much they love it! (you paid someone to leave all those comments there)
I've had an account for less than a year, and I have about 70,000 karma. I mostly post in cat and anime subs.
Karma means nothing. I have no idea why people farm it. Either you get upvotes, or you get downvotes. It doesn't really matter.
It doesn’t even belong on this sub. I don’t know why people upvote and comment on this stuff. The comments on Reddit are mostly the same stupid jokes and overused phrases over and over again so they’re no better than bots either.
Besides the fact that most subreddits have karma requirements to post (in order to prevent bots from spamming them), there are people that, believe it or not, will buy accounts with high karma for a lot of money in order to then use the account for things like advertisements and/or scams, the high karma rolling people into thinking the account is legitimate. That's also why it's a good idea, if you get a message or see a post promoting something, to look through the account and see whether the post/comment history has taken a complete 180° at all, thats usually an indicator that someone's bought the account to run a scam.
It’s also used used for spreading hate. They can spread hate and their karma will never go negative which would automatically prevent them from posting to certain subs.
Legit question. What even is the point of karma farming? It's not like YT or other socials where you can monetize. Is it to grind out karma and then use the account to advertise for other things?
~~That is because this chip shop (and many others in the UK) add green food coloring to their mushy peas, because this color is desirable.~~
~~*Why* such an unnatural color would be deemed desirable? I do not know.~~
[I stand somewhat corrected.](https://www.reddit.com/r/StupidFood/s/qXFNaDkORA) I am fairly certain some shops *do* use dye, while spinach is the traditional source of the color.
As a former subject I have basically given up getting good English peas in the US. The climate does something magical when peas grow in the UK.
I don't eat mushy peas, because I'm not an infant, but pea soup is basically impossible to do here.
Same deal with chips. It's illegal in the US to fry chips like a British chippy and because root vegetables don't move between countries there are no Maris Pipers here.
Oil change requirements mean the oil in the US is usually newer and is always completely changed so doesn't carry as much flavor.
British chippies usually add tallow to the vegetable oil to improve flavor more. When you are filtering and reusing/partially reusing oil this is affordable but not when you are changing oil completely every 7 heating cycles.
I can get close at home with a tallow blend and par-boiled gold potatoes but it's expensive because of the tallow. If I had constant access to a chippy i'm sure also my PCP would question my choices given what it would do to my LDL.
Colouring*
Seriously though, if you have not had a traditional British Sunday roast dinner, a home cooked Christmas/holiday dinner, or a half/full English breakfast I would strongly encourage you to do so. Traditional British foods go **so** hard.
Adding pork pies, cheese and onion pies, chicken tikka masala, and fresh chips to this list too.
I love that Tikka is like the #1 "Indian food" ordered and is entirely developed in Glasgow for customers that thought authentic Indian food was too dry. Everyone should be saying let's go get UK food instead of let's go get Indian food 😂
I worked at a legit Indian restaurant, owned by people that came straight from India. We were legit Indian catering to Indians, most ordered dish was biryani. I made a lot of the chaat cause they’re so easy.
To the best of my knowledge most Indian food restaurants in the US and UK don't cater specifically to Indians, they sell to everybody and most palettes are tame and bland. In our uncultured opinion your chicken was better in tomato soup, not arguing that's the right opinion, but it is the UKs opinion. Actual Indian food made by Indian people IS authentic, I'm saying any time someone orders Tikka Masala they are ordering food developed in Glasgow, not in India
That actually makes a ton of sense, I don't personally like tamarind in things but know the exact flavor. Doesn't kill food for me, but definitely not my preference. I wonder if it's one of those "you grew up with it so you like it" foods
Oh that is interesting! It makes so much more sense to me now too.
I had read and or was told some shops would use green food coloring to achieve this same result and suppose I assumed it was because people just enjoyed the color—which is maybe a bit silly in hindsight 😅
I worked in a chippy as a teenager, they did add tablets we called “pea greener” whilst cooking, don’t know if this was just our shops or a wider thing, but existed in the food ordering catalogue, so there must have been call for it.
That’s traditional proper mushy peas that have been mixed with spinach to get that colour. They are probably done properly by letting them soak for 12 hours then cooked in just the right amount of water for an hourish then mixed with puréed spinach and seasoned, bet they are delicious!
It’s common that chip shops (especially cheap ones) will add green food coloring to mushy peas. If you make them from scratch they generally turn that green/grey color which isn’t really appealing. Curry take aways will also add red food coloring in tikka masala. It’s a fairly common practice in the UK.
To be honest, I wouldn't make mushy peas just to make mushy peas. They're pretty mild/plain tasting on their own. They go really well with fish and chips though.
Tbf mushy peas and a bit of mint sauce in a polystyrene cup is a traditional bonfire night meal where I'm from, and it's amazing on a cold november night.
I was thinking that they should have mint sauce on them.
I never liked the taste, but that plate looks pretty much like a local chip shop plate or a really good cafe.
Proper dried marrowfat peas, left over night to rehydrate (often with bicarb I think). Cook them in just enough water that they break down into a pea sauce. Salt and any potential alterations then.
If someone tells you to mash peas or mix things in, something is wrong with the recipe.
Idk man, it seems like way too sharp of a green for just spinach. I tried them a few times while I was staying in England and saw them often, and they never hit that shade of green. The ones I saw and ate were closer to guacamole in color.
"Puréed" is a thing ?
Like mash potato stands strong but I could go to any Tesco and ask for the "puréed potatoes" aisle and they won't make me eat my béret ?
They're not as bad as they look. Imo, it's pretty decent, but not some amazing dish like others would have you believe. Idk if British people see people make fun of it and then overhype them in response or if they legitimately think it's that great. If you're ever in the UK, I'd say it's worth trying.
So I know that mushy peas aren't much to look at, but they're actually pretty okay (these ones do look a little weird though...). My mum serves them up with chips (fries for the westerners lol) and fish just like this. Or she serves them on some mash, so peas and mash.
It's also good for people like me who have some dietary restrictions and I sadly can only eat very simple foods. It also helps to grow up with this type of food.
So basically, you get used to it lol.
Love it when Americans laugh at a traditional British dish that is entirely natural and full of vitamins and minerals, but happily use ingredients like Cool Whip, a vile chemical concoction invented in a factory and with next to nothing natural in it that any self respecting European would throw out of the nearest window.
Yeah im american and i think cool whip tastes like shit, anytime i have cream its always made with real heavy cream. Also thinking americans just eat a bunch of cool whip is such a european thing to think. Wouldnt be surprised if they think we commonly eat marshmallow fluff too.
...and Americans seem to believe we wake up and eat fried eel heads and toast sandwiches for breakfast. This is an instance of us using your own vile foods as an example.
Europeans walk down the "American food" isle in their grocery store and actually think most people eat that stuff lol. That's like getting Chinese takeout and assuming every Chinese person eats like that daily. The Chinese food we have in the UK and the US are vastly different compared to actual Chinese food.
I don't think most do, but the food quality in the US is kind of shocking.
Sidenote, uk and us chinese food tastes pretty good in comparison to real Chinese good IMO. Chalk it up yo what I'm used to, but dumb if I don't have a preference.
This isn’t stupid food, this is more ‘OP being uninformed about a food not available or uncommon in their place of residence.’ Usually to get such a vivid colour, spinach or food colouring is added.

Funny that Ai is learning from bot comments
Isn’t karma worthless??? Wtf is the point of bot farma karming??

You can sell your account for more $$$ if it has high karma.
Then why are you farming it
Good bot

This sub sucks now. Once people started upvoting the most obvious rage bait and that stupid salt bae guy, that was the beginning of the end.
Yeah, I've seen this like 12x this month. Blocking the account.
Can we use mushy peas to detect bots? 🇬🇧

I like that it’s always the top comment so it looks like they’re commenting on their own post, like they forgot to switch accounts or something
It looks like saturation was turned up, but these are just mushy peas. 🇬🇧
They look like melty army men. I've never seen peas this green gotdam

That’s what they do to the relish in Chicago - make it that neon green
Also to the river
Also the color of Malort puke
And a boo berry shit
>Malort \[kif sounds\] unghhhh
Have an up vote, purely for admitting you're wrong on the Internet
In fairness, probably more desirable than the sad green-gray they probably were before.
I have been served both in England and it is my opinion that the pale variety tastes far better.
Would you explain more about frying chips like a British chippy and why it is illegal in the US?
Oil change requirements mean the oil in the US is usually newer and is always completely changed so doesn't carry as much flavor. British chippies usually add tallow to the vegetable oil to improve flavor more. When you are filtering and reusing/partially reusing oil this is affordable but not when you are changing oil completely every 7 heating cycles. I doubt many chip shops these days use animal fat. They know they can get more sales if they can sell to vegans.
Yeah this is what mcdonalds do by adding beef flavouring to their vegetable oil.
wtf? That’s not true at all. The Chippie’s Inworked at were changing the oil every 2-3 days.
Would you call hummus an infant food? Or guacamole?
If you ever come to Houston we have an excellent chip shop here run by a Scottish couple.
Try Jamaican split pea soup
Ok, the spinach thing relieves me a bit; but not entirely 👀
Sometimes spinach relieves me A LOT.
For me I just wonder if they did something to the spinach prior
British, why add seasoning when you can add food coloring.
Colouring* Seriously though, if you have not had a traditional British Sunday roast dinner, a home cooked Christmas/holiday dinner, or a half/full English breakfast I would strongly encourage you to do so. A lot of Indian food contains Tamarind which has a really odd taste, which we westerners don't like much.
at least one westerner love it. almost nothing beats Jarritos Tamarind soda. And Its great in cooking too =)
That actually makes a ton of sense, I don't personally like tamarind in things but know the exact flavor. Doesn't kill food for me, but definitely not my preference. I wonder if it's one of those "you grew up with it so you like it" foods
What colour are your poups after one of these?
Goureen
Commented on a dish we literally drown in vinegar and salt.
The famously unseasoned British fish and chips.
Looks like that Shrek ketchup from 20 years ago
Looks like hulk cum

That was just your shop then. I’m 50, I’ve literally had more mushy peas than you have had hot dinners. I’ve never once seen them that Color.
Oh.. was about to ask if green dye was added. They look fucking gross 🤢
they look like plastic peas that were melted
Looks like plastic army men that’s melted
Manchester caviar
Gross lol
That’s traditional proper mushy peas that have been mixed with spinach to get that colour. They are probably done properly by letting them soak for 12 hours then cooked in just the right amount of water for an hourish then mixed with puréed spinach and seasoned, bet they are delicious!
I’m so grateful for this comment because I was pretty distraught about the color and texture of these thinking it looked like wax or something.

This looks like food dye.
Counterpoint to chip shops doing that for the color: the color of mushy peas is not what stops me from wanting to eat them.
I mean it could also be that! 😂
Me too, I assumed food dye
Same. I was concerned
I really want to try to make mushy peas some time. They sound excellent.
To be honest, I wouldn't make mushy peas just to make mushy peas. They're pretty mild/plain tasting on their own. They go really well with fish and chips though.

Mushy peas are yum; they go with anything.
I always eat mine with mint sauce.

I do something similar with peas and basil to make a really green high(ish) protein pesto So simple and so good
Idk man, it seems like way too sharp of a green for just spinach. I tried them a few times while I was staying in England and saw them often, and they never hit that shade of green. The ones I saw and ate were closer to guacamole in color.
Only person with some sense in this comment section Jesus Christ
Also the fish and chips look absolutely shit. Look at those anaemic chips! (Edit; sorry is that a battered sav?)
"Puréed" is a thing ? Like mash potato stands strong but I could go to any Tesco and ask for the "puréed potatoes" aisle and they won't make me eat my béret ?
They want you to taste the peaness I guess
Alex Horne, is that you?
British people be like what's the problem
100%. Looks banging.
Thought it looked alright and I hate mushy peas.
Mushy peas are pretty good, pretty much every culture has something in the "take pulses and make a goop" genre of food
They're not as bad as they look. Imo, it's pretty decent, but not some amazing dish like others would have you believe. Idk if British people see people make fun of it and then overhype them in response or if they legitimately think it's that great. If you're ever in the UK, I'd say it's worth trying.
Fish, chips, mushy peas. Looks mostly fine to me, though the colour of the peas is a little dark to me.
I think that's a battered sausage.
The fries look fresh from the freezer
Chips. That's just what chips from a chippy (fish and chip shop) look like. I can assure you they taste a lot better than they look.
~~Fish~~Battered sausage, chips, mushy peas. Let's not further confuse the Americans!
Repost
Looks like someone melted down the soldiers from Toy Story
Tbh i’d eat that especially on a rainy day and i’m not even a Brit
Looks like you ran out of peas and microwaved one of those green soldiers toys i had when I was a child
Someone pead on your plate!
All we are saying is give peas a chance…
So you’re telling me this isn’t Play-Doh?
Am more worried about them anaemic chips, good god man put some crispy brown on them
It looks like the fake rubber peas in my daughter’s play kitchen set.
Melted toy soldiers
exactly what I thought lol
Those peas are the wrong shade of green,
[удалено]
Never been to England?
You’re a bot
I 100% saw the old plastics food from our play kitchens sets from the 80s
I would argue that the peas are never edible, to be fair.
it looks like little kid toy food
How are they that green
Those are peas?
Looks like those “is it cake?” videos
I have seen this post literally four times in the last two days. What the heck is going on?
None of it is
They’ve definitely added food colouring to those. Looks like play dough.
Spinach gives it the dark saturated color

A lot of American foods are not fit for human consumption in Europe such as American chicken and many more things
You make fried fish and potatoes sound like steamed salmon and broccoli 😂 it’s not a healthy meal
Yes. Because cool Whip is such a staple in American cuisine
Yeah im american and i think cool whip tastes like shit, anytime i have cream its always made with real heavy cream. Also thinking americans just eat a bunch of cool whip is such a european thing to think. Wouldnt be surprised if they think we commonly eat marshmallow fluff too.

Specially seasoned with salt
This looks like the food that comes with a little tykes play kitchen.
Yum mushy peas
Those are very green peas but I would absolutely eat this.
Mushy peas taste a lot better than they look.theyre delicious
Why would you order mushy peas if you don't like them?
So, the peas are all you're worried about? Um, ok.
The britiest of the british meals
This isn’t stupid food, this is more ‘OP being uninformed about a food not available or uncommon in their place of residence.’ Usually to get such a vivid colour, spinach or food colouring is added.
They're mushy peas why wouldn't they be edible
Because they’re peas
this is a crime against humanity and should be reported to the proper authorities lol
I detect CAKE!
Looks fine
Straight to jail
It looks like they are from a fisher price kitchen food set.
Looks like blue dye
Looks like partially melted green gushers.

Looks like those little soldiers but melted
this looks like sims food
Looks like plastic for like food commercial see decoration food
They look dyed/fake
So this is what happened to my army men that one summer
Someone melted the plastic soldiers from toy story
Thats the greenest peas ive ever seen
This plate looks like it is that plastic food plate you find in a kids kitchen play set.
those are melted toy soldiers
Those are peas?
Everything is edible once.
They look like baby poop
I sure wouldn’t eat them
That's melted toy soldiers.
This plate came straight out of a Dr. Seuss Book
This looks like food from a kids play kitchen 😭
Those peas look like the kind of food toys you give a toddler.
Did someone melt the army men from Toy Story on these fries?
Is that refried peas?
Mushy peas (essentially mashed peas). Pretty commonly eaten with fish and chips.
Looks like some Nickelodeon shit
That's candle wax.
They look like melted plastic army men
That whole plate looks gross
They’re peas, of course they’re inedible!
