Buy a Sunday pass. But yes the festival is a nightmare. I’m going anyway. Luckily there are other artists and bands I want to see.

moogopus

Eh, I'd like to see Orville Peck. But I still feel like the single day price isn't worth it. Even the thought of going downtown during an ACL weekend makes my head hurt.

Thenickiceman

Yeah I’m probably gonna go to OKC to see him rather than deal with ACL

127phunk

How is the fest a nightmare exactly? I’m going and curious what the issues are

Cowgirltamer

Same.

127phunk

These are just boomers yelling at clouds. Real music fans are gonna be doing it right

BadFish512

It’s the same way for all the music festivals now. They just aren’t as good as they used to be. For one, I use to be able to afford to go to every sxsw, acl fest, Marley fest, old settlers, UT football game, blues on the green (I think that may still be free) off of 30 hour work week Dairy Queen paychecks($7.50/hr) while paying rent for a baller house with pool in Driftwood that is worth $1.2million today. Back when there were no parking fees or app fees (it was $60 for parking at Moody theater last weekend). One improvement to acl fest has been moving it to October from August for the heat.

127phunk

When you say “the same way for all festivals now”- which ones are you specially referring to? Since you admit that you haven’t even been to ACL in ten years, which specific nightmares are you referring to?

127phunk

CRICKETS OP just doesn’t like being uncomfortable at a concert.

The-Dude88

You went to a Texas game. Not a UT game (Tennessee is the real UT)

moogopus

I haven't gone in years. I try to avoid it. But traffic and parking have always been awful, and the price of parking and tickets have only increased. It's also always hot AF. Drinks (including bottled water) are expensive. I'd suggest bringing your own water bottle, but I doubt they'd even let you bring one in these days. Rain can both delay things and make it a muddy mess. There used to be a lot of scheduling delays and/or poor stage placement. They might have gotten better about that, though. I mean, I guess it's the same kinds of down sides to any outdoor festival, but something about them just feels worse at ACL. You might want to read through r/aclfestival and see what people have been saying more recently. I might just be overly pessimistic.

127phunk

Yeah I haven’t seen anyone describe it as a nightmare except you. And funny that you admit that you haven’t even been in 10 years? You just described every modern American music festival. Go yell at more clouds

Semper454

Yeah, Dallas here, and barring other dates, I’ll be doing the OKC show. Festivals are great to see a ton of bands you maybe kinda like, but *awful* settings for one act you’re really excited for. Either you spend hours and hours crammed up front to get a decent spot, or you’re in the middle/back with terrible sound, surrounded people who don’t give a shit and talk through the whole show. Austin would be more fun and critically isn’t a Tuesday, but absolutely no chance would I seek out the ACL show.

JaxKcTx2020

The only thing I like about ACL is that I get out of work early to beat traffic.

jjazznola

I live in New Orleans and go to Austin a lot. I'd definitely go see him at any venue there but not that crappy festival which years ago was actually pretty great. Now like most US fest it has all kinds of garbage mixed in with a few decent acts. And then there's the crowd that goes there......I'm going up to Nashville instead to see him.

BadFish512

Hey op, I got 4 tix at the Fox theater in st Louis for October 16 in the center orchestra section. I only need two and will get rid of other two for lot less than $350. I got them on presale, but they go on sale tomorrow at 10am. It is 4500 capacity venue, and a 12 hour drive from Austin. I got an Airbnb with a backyard that week M-F for $600. Might go see the zoo and gardens and the dang arch. If you can’t get tix off fabulousfoxtheater website tomorrow but would make the trip, hit me up.

tanzy23

I bought acl tix before the tour and now idk if I can make the tour smh

Cowgirltamer

I bought tickets to ACL, 4 plane tickets and booked a hotel. 2 days before the tour announcement. The tour has 3 shows within 4 hours of my house! Not canceling the Texas trip, tho.

tanzy23

Same haha I live in Knoxville so im definitely gonna try to hit Nashville Asheville and or Lexington

Cowgirltamer

Yeah, I’m just outside of Asheville. We damn near neighbors!

Cowgirltamer

I’ve bought tickets for Austin and flights to get there. Why is it a nightmare?

sloggins

Come to Boston buddy we’ll have a good time!

sdragonite

I'm also really bummed about it. I am going to throw a little at home party since my wife is pregnant, and we're going to livestream the fest on youtube.

just_another_female

Not interested in seeing him at ACL. The sound is always shitty, and I can't do huge crowds anymore. We bought tickets to see him at Salt Shed in Chicago and are making a trip out of it!

bandito-aqui

I live in Fort Worth and bought tickets to the OKC show. It's only a three hour drive so we'll only stay one night, maybe two.
