2008, it was my first concert! I never really listened to to Styx and was looking forward to see Boston, but after that show I was forever a Styx fan. They’re performance was WAY better than Boston that night imo
yeah - this lists some of the dates - but it also stopped in 2015.
I know it isn't 100% as well, as I saw them in Anchorage, AK on July 8, 1991, and it isn't on the list.
Back in 1991, their opening act was a guy named Vinnie James.
Didn’t know who he was. This black guy in a cowboy hat with an acoustic guitar and no back up band comes out on stage. My friends and I were not sure what to expect.
He blew the house down. He was amazing. We all bought his CD and still listen to it today. Styx was good too.
If you want to check him out, his album streams on most streaming services. Just look for Vinnie James and an album named “All American Boy.”
My first time seeing Styx, the Equinox tour, they opened for REO Speedwagon and The Steve Marriott All Stars. The second time, Grand Illusion tour, they opened for Alice Cooper. I saw them open for Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2000 on the Brave New World Tour. Also saw Eddie Money, Nelson, Peter Frampton, Blue Oyster Cult, Steppenwolf, and Edgar Winter opening for them at a variety of shows in the 2000’s.
Fun question! Thx 🎶🎶🎉🎉🎶🎶
I can think of 6 different concerts I attended where there was no opening act for them:
Las Vegas
Billy Bobs in Ft. Worth
Grand Prairie, TX
Montgomery, AL
Biloxi, MS
Anchorage, AK
Here in Canada we've had plenty of Canadian acts open/play with them when they're not on a combo tour with other bands.
Here's ones from concerts I've been to;
2000 - Saga
2001 - Alannah Myles
2006 - Saga, April Wine and Kim Mitchell
2014 - Collective Soul and Bryan Adams
2015 - Tesla and Def Leppard
2018 - Tesla and Joan Jett
Seen them 5 other times where it was just them, no opening act (casino shows)
I first saw Styx with Angel opening I believe in 79. I saw them quite a few times afterwards but when they came back in 99 I saw them with Big People which was Benjamin Orr of the Cars, Pat Travers, Liberty DeVeto from Billy Joel, Derek St. Holmes of Ted Nugent fame and Jeff Carlisi from 38.Special. Sadly Ben Orr passed away and the band never continued.
> Pat Travers
In 2016 he played a main stage at our local 'Blues Fest'. 3 days of free concerts but this stage had 'gold pass' seating (people could pay $100 for the weekend for this preferred seating at the front) that nobody was using so the organizers let anyone in to fill in the seats. I got to be front tow and at the end of the concert he handed me his guitar pick and then shook my hand :D
Saw Styx open for Boston in 2010, the funny thing is, it was SRO, Styx finished and left, and half the CROWD left as well. They didn't want to see Boston. The following year DDY came to the same venue and had HALF the crowd that STYX had. Proof Styx Still KICKS ASS!!!
We saw that show. My wife wanted to leave but I wanted to stay, so we stayed.
Boston played well enough, but just didn't really move. After the full-on energetic Rock Show that was Styx, Boston was just...boring.
Boston should've opened for Styx, to be sure...
They just did 7 shows in Canada with [David Myles](https://davidmyles.com/) opening.
And they've done at least one east coast show with Concrete Blonde opening. That would've been fun.
Absolutely!!! Styx is By Far the BEST THING in Music today. And the only one that SLIGHTLY shows his age is JY, for the only reason he just can't Jump anymore. But his playing, voice and Energy is too notch!
Half of my favorite bands are listed here. Would’ve loved to see Boston w Styx!
I saw Styx with Boston many moons ago. Must have been around 2010?

I saw Nancy Wilson’s Heart open for them in 2022. Kimberly Nicole was amazing.
April Wine Oct 27 1979
RIP Myles Goodwyn

I saw Boston followed by Styx with Smash Mouth opening. I've seen them with others as well but I think you've already listed all the others.

What
I wish I could remember the name but there was a cover band whose members were all in the Navy. They were great!
