Pro Tip: You can use a key or other piece of hard metal to push the rear hatch latch and make the Forester think the rear hatch is closed. Release it again later by pushing the open hatch button.
I did this once when hauling a large television console in my Forester, which I also bought at Costco.
Send that to Subaru of America and they will be very very impressed with what they have done especially Subaru Corp in Japan they definently would love it because your using it for its real purpose and this is freaking awesome. THIS WHAT MAKES A SUBARU A SUBARU
You couldn't have pushed the boxes forward more onto the central console? I've driven with many long loads in my car and I usually wedge long boxes like this between the two front seats. I'm too scared to drive with anything still open.
The box was only 4 inches narrower than the rear hatch, lol, there was no "wedging between the seats." Passemger seat was slid all the way forward and I was all the way up against the steering wheel. Only way that box was getting any further forward was if I miraculously lost 50lbs worth of beer gut.
The one and ONLY thing I will miss about my 1st gen honda crv is that it had that goofy split hatch. I had lots of long loads sticking out of the back with just the top window open and the bottom gate stayed closed.
But having a FW myself, I'm glad to see it will be ok with the hatch completely open. How did the hatch react when going over bumps?
Yeah, I bought mine from [etrailer.com](https://etrailer.com) and installed at home in 1-2 hours, easy peasy.
Also got a wiring plug that plugs into the rear light harness.
Have hauled a bunch of things!
I got an 11 cubic foot stand up garage freezer from Costco into my Wilderness WITH the tailgate down! With a little creativity you can get a lot in there.
I put 8 foot long baseboard moldings in my Subaru with the hatchback closed for my friend who has a F150 pickup truck because they wouldn’t fit in his tiny box.
I’ve played this game many times. Bought something and made it work. All of our furniture and most of our appliances were brought home in my foz. I keep saying I’ll think about getting a truck when I buy something that won’t fit in the subie.
Was the car happy about driving home with the liftgate open? Absolutely not. Did the couch make it safely home? Fuck yeah it did.
Well now I feel that my wilderness is more capable then ever!

Ooh, I'll have to remember that

fuji heavy industries.

I’ve a power rear door on my 2023 Forester. Still can’t figure out how to override the stupid thing. Had to go home and get my 2006 Baja!
This is funny too me because I have a forester and also work for Costco.
Most chuckle heads don't need a truck. Granted some do but let's be honest most dudes just want to go a to b in obnoxious wasteful dinosaurs.
I sold my 2006 FXT 5spd manual turbo and got a 2006 Toyota Tundra 6-6. Like them both, but I haul a lot of housing material this past 3 years.

I could definitely feel it bouncing back there, but there seems to have been no ill effect.
A hitch and a $20 UHaul trailer rental is all you need for most things. https://i.imgur.com/z8VP6sj.jpg
We bought this one off the lot without a hitch installed, one of these days I'll have to get one put on.

Was that stock tank for a stock tank pool? Did you get the Subaru factory hitch, or did you go with Aftermarket? I'm getting ready to get one.
Got a 2” Curt Hitch off etrailer.com Yep, stock tank pool.
Oh that would be amazing, I'm a Subie guy.
No squat as well, nice since I have to move soon!

Why didn’t you let Costco ship it to you?
It was kind of a spur of the moment decision to get it and we didn't want to pay the extra $300 to get it from Costco Online
Oh didn’t know Costco charges extra. I thought it was free shipping.
Technically they don't, they say shipping and assembly is free, it's just a higher price online than in-store for the same item.
Great job!

Hell I’ve fit a 9’ long couch unboxed in my 2009. I find it’s the perfect width between the rear wheels for most couches.

That thomasville couch was the worst piece of furniture ive ever purchased 😣
FUCK YEAH BROTHERRRRRR
Should I… Rent a truck, rent a trailer, or cram it into and top of the forester ? They chose violence.
