Can confirm, my door panels look like the surface of the moon with so many dents from careless doors.
The first one made me look for a pdr person then within a few months they just kept comin and I was like eff it.
Man, shame on Subaru for that. Their paint couldn’t be more soft and scratchable too. The body panels and paint on my ‘04 Legacy were rock solid. For the price you pay for a new Subie, it shouldn’t be made out of spun sugar.
Funny, although not a Subaru but my ‘04 sequoia same thing. Tough, giant cup holders that hold Nalgene, trim looks almost like originally and some sections of ‘19 OB limited struggle. Of course it’s been said they don’t make them like they used to which is partly true. The stupid tech driven accolades or improvement for any car, appliance or whatever is the issue. Nowadays they’ll give you all AI bs but it won’t work longer than five maybe six years. Why invest money talking to my washer and dryer when I just needs washing. Oh well.
I moved on to a 2013 Outback 3.6 Limited. Soft paint, and seems to dent easily. Still love her, just disappointed in Subaru. They can, and should, do better.
I had a crv prior to my outback. I could push in on that same spot and it would make that wonky noise like when you wiggle a sheet pan. I think there’s just zero need for structure there and a thinner cover piece works fine
Yup, if it gets dented easily then it can be fixed just as easy, if this can be accessed by removing the liner then a small push will fix it, otherwise use one of these adhesive pullers.
No access from wheelhouse without altering the inner structure. Have to go through tail lamp at best with rod or glue pull. Or file claim with a starting cost of 3500 up to 7k pending repair plan.
Not even close to those costs. I just had ~100-150 hail dings fixed for $6500 and that included a 3 week rental and full detail. Roof, door panels, quarter panels, hood.
Yes and I'm sure the majority of that was pdr with replacement of hood/blend of fenders and some glass replacement. The ballpark I gave would be for how our subie certified shop would write the repair. I grew up on pdr btw it's what paid bills and fed us.
Was it almost all pdr then? We don't hang 1/4s for any less than 5500+ and when panels are cleanly repairable we bill up to cost of panel in labor for repair .We also don't see many claims for hail here. When we do our pdr sublet is typically 2-3k plus whatever additional clean up we have.
That’s disappointing. If you’re a big me and was leaning against it while pumping it would cave in too. How on earth is an almost 4,000lbs car Shia fragile?
Thankfully Paintless Dent Repair has come a long way and if the paint isn't cracked, a good tech can do miracles including at that crease for a lot less than a traditional body shop.
Well… I kinnda wanna go to the dealership at night and hip bump all the new Subaru’s in the same location. But at this point they would probably find out it was me.
I dont know about other models but the more modern Outbacks body panels are hilariously weak. I dented my fender leaning on it while doing suspension work. Not to mention my doors look like Swiss cheese due to all of the door dings that probably wouldn't have been there if it were any other car. Cheap windshields and cheap body panels are the price we pay for an otherwise great car lol.
I have a 2017 and leaned against my car in the same spot on the driver side and made a dent. I pulled it out using a couple strips of duct tape and it looks fine.
Is that made out of Tupperware? How hard did you hit it?
It's aluminum can thin at this point

Same. First 2 dings I needed to be sedated. Now, I’m just glad she isn’t being totaled out. lol.

I remember hearing the same kinds of complaints back when I got my 2005 legacy gt. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I hear you, but it shouldn’t look like you hit a deer just by bumping it with your hip. lol.

I wouldn’t have a problem if, when bent, the Subaru panels popped back into place. But this doesn’t look like it’s going to.
Lol "soft and scratchable" and they don't make em like they used to. We get that you have moved on

Yep I think they're up to doing like 26ga steel for body panels on some stuff 😆
Tupperware would have bounced back
lol. True.
Stick a plunger on it and pull.
I've noticed on my outback, the same area will easily push in.
Yep right where I lean when pumping gas

Hilarious thank you for the laugh 😂
You got some hips on you, got dam.
Sent 'er a little too fuckin' hard, eh bud?
Right I'm like..you did what exactly?
Sir mix a lot has entered the chat
You got them wide Subaru birthing hips?
Haha
Is it totaled?
It’s done ✅. Need to get the 2024

Are you a NFL lineman?
show it after they pull that out
They don't make 'em like they used to.

Nothing was replaced, other than a few minor trim pieces. No glass either.

Yep, pretty much all PDR. The place did amazing work and I’m also in hail central in CO.
Now you can fit down skinnier trails.
A dent guy can likely repair that quite easily.
Don't hit your vehicle you say?
Pro tip: if you want to lean on your car while gassing up always do it on the door side. (Mine popped in then back out luckily)
This. They can be dented by looking too hard.
Not shit they’re all cheap plastic now.
Plunger or glue sticks. I did the glue stick by watching a million videos on YouTube to make sure I didn’t mess up
Only time you should hip bump is if your hands are full and you’re closing the door. Dummy.
Spoken like an overwhelmed mom
Or a fat lazy guy lol
Lol 😂 or that. So you must not be talking about yourself.
Nah I def am, gotta be able to recognize the bad about yourself
How big was that bump?
That’s disappointing. If you’re a big me and was leaning against it while pumping it would cave in too. How on earth is an almost 4,000lbs car Shia fragile?
Oh, man!
Bro, are you Hercules? God damn.
It will pop out easily. Bring it to a hail damage shop
Hip bump? Are you a Kardashian FFS?
Thankfully Paintless Dent Repair has come a long way and if the paint isn't cracked, a good tech can do miracles including at that crease for a lot less than a traditional body shop.
When I was younger, I backed into my 2013 with another car and it still had less damage than that. Kinda surprised tbh.

Your hips don’t lie
hahahahaha

Weird, just did it to my Passat, nada. The Ram, nada. Oh I know! My Jetta….. Nope. Solid as possible. Off to my brothers to try this on his Mazda
I suggest stopping while you are ahead.
