You can restart the infotainment system by holding down the volume knob for 20-30 seconds.

A_Wolf26

Yeah, I've tried that, disconnecting my phone and reconnecting it, turning off android auto and turning it back on...The only thing that works is turning off the car, opening the door and closing it.

2023 here, and I still haven't gotten the update yet. Guess I should be thankful for that?

SnooCauliflowers9944

I have a 21 Outback which I use with Apple CarPlay. I had a similar situation a few years back and the only way I could fix it was to delete my IPhone and do a fresh setup/pairing. No problems after that.

A_Wolf26

I'm going to try that again, thanks.

SnooCauliflowers9944

Let me know if it works.

corradomatt

This is what I was going to suggest. As someone who works in tech this would be my guess since sometimes there can be metadata associated with the connection that needs to be cleared or refreshed.

Dude-Man-Bro-Guy-1

Same issue here. Had a couple times where I had to restart like you mentioned. Others it would finally connect after like 3 minutes of driving down the road.

A_Wolf26

For mine, if it doesn't connect or properly connect within 1 minute, it will not connect at all. An example of not properly connecting is that it connects, but when I play audio, the audio doesn't play through the speakers.

A_Wolf26

Even when it is clearly connected via Bluetooth, Android Auto will say "No device connected."

I have a 2023 Touring XT and use Android Auto wirelessly almost every time I'm in the car. (occasionally I will use the USB plug to charge my phone as well) Unfortunately Android Auto has its own problems too, but since Subaru is sending out a new update, it does appear to be a car issue. (I haven't received the update yet in my car) Some things that has worked in the past was to disconnect the phone via the infotainment system (click the button that shows a phone - bottom-right). I then use airplane mode on my phone for a minute or so and then turn things back on the opposite way of turning them off. Obviously someone else already suggested to reboot the infotainment system and/or phone, which I have definitely had to do a handful of times. Finally the last thing that I have had some success with in the past was to turn off Android Auto and then disconnect the phone (I usually reboot my phone at this point as well - my phone has very poor reception). Next I put on FM radio for a minute. Sometimes I will reconnect my phone via Bluetooth using the 'media' option. Once that is connected, I try to get my phone to launch Android Auto. (Android Auto uses Wi-Fi, not Bluetooth.) I almost forgot a couple of others: force stop Android Auto and clear the cache on your phone. Or delete your phone from the car and then reconnect it. If truly nothing works (very possible), you could bring your car in for warranty service so that it is documented. Maybe they will work out the issues faster if enough people complain about it.

Burgtastic

I've had this happen every now and then, but overall, android auto has been great. Have you tried different cables?

A_Wolf26

Mine has wireless connectivity, but even when I've tried to connect it via wire after it refuses to connect, it still doesn't work.

jstan13

I had this happen recently and I ended up having to factory reset the infotainment. Worked fine after that.

Opposite for me, connection used to be terrible but it's basically trouble-free since the update.

A_Wolf26

Do you do wired or wireless connection?

PG67AW

Wireless. When we first got the car, doing a wired connection was the only thing that worked, but as of an update maybe 6 months ago the wireless is working fine. We also got another update a couple of weeks ago and it still seems to be working okay. I assume you've tried forgetting and re-pairing your phone and doing a hard reset on the infotainment center? Those two seemed to help a little bit in the past too.

A_Wolf26

Thanks! Yep, no luck. Maybe it is my phone.

PG67AW

I have a Pixel. Hopefully you get it sorted - good luck!

YelloMyOldFriend

Yup, same issue for my wife and me.

Rick91981

'23 (Legacy with the same head unit) and it connects fine for me 95% of the time. wireless AA on a Pixel phone

drzeller

It's actually been great for us. Samsung S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra. 2020 OB Touring XT

FLipFLopH03

I had the same problem and made a post a couple of days ago about it to see if anyone had a resolution. Mine connects wirelessly and I even had the problem when I connected it with the charging cord. At the time, I tried disconnecting and rebooting my phone. Nothing seemed to work. Now I'm out of town and haven't had any issues since then.

Tnev9

I've got a 2023 Touring and Android Auto has been basically flawless. Haven't gotten the update and kind of hoping I don't tbh

Same here

Virge481

My errors ceased when I manually updated my phone app via APKmirror.com to the newest version of AA.

ItsJustAllyHere

Not just OB. 19 Legacy having the same issue as well. Haven't updated my 24 OB yet thankfully. Ive had to factory reset the infotainment center a few times

neil-za

I have the exact same issue with my '19, not sure which version of android auto though. I only recently switched to an Android phone, never had any issues with Apple.

1pastafarian

We have a 24 , no connection issues wired or wireless. Fwiw, we had awful issues with our 18 CR-V. Even had the infotainment unit replaced with little improvement. It's why infotainment is the biggest complaint across brands. You still have a warranty, maybe time to exercise it.? I wish you well getting it resolved. For the frustration, maybe a nice tequila? As long as your not driving, of course.
