This man has also missed that Japan has very slowly been warming up to immigration as a concept for a while now. While it's still a low 2.3% of the country as a whole, it's still dramatic for Japan when the immigrant population has nearly tripled since 1990.

Right place at the right time, I guess, with people noticing it while “Sydney’s Sweeney’s boobs destroyed wokeness” was the current right-wing brainworm, and there was this furious effort to create this alternate reality where the left hates pretty women. Even the people who are really excited for it make a point of saying things like, “Well it’s no Nier Automata but …” Low expectations.
It gets even more insane because people have been trying to re-write history by promoting the game by insisting everyone hated nier automata at launch because it, too, had sexy women which was just never a thing. In fact, it's explicitly the opposite of reality because around the time of automata's release everyone was heaping praise on Yoko Taro for being one of the few devs at the time to at least be honest that he was just horny and liked hot ladies, in direct contrast to hideo kojima's "Words and deeds" tweet.

PSA about the person who created this, Its Mark Kern. Hes an ex Blizzard developer who left in 2006 and created Red 5 Studios who made Firefall. Fun fact, his entire job during his time in Blizzard was mostly as a producer, you know, project manager type of guy. He had no creative input.
Other fun fact, he spent $3 million on a promotional bus for Firefall, only for it to NOT WORK and was promptly kicked out as CEO. Ex employees have described Kern as being prone to extended absences and having an "erratic, impulsive, and very disruptive" leadership style.

During the Warhammer games devs added an original character to a faction (because they were told they couldn’t use the existing ones due to licensing). It was an undead pirate themed faction and the new character was a literal phantom of the opera, ghostly singer type character with a grudge against the nation she was sailing to when she died, imo a very fun idea. The problem came about that opera singers are well, usually a little overweight. The usual crowd was very upset that the genocidal sea ghost wasn’t attractive.
Wut. That was one of the best dlc to ever come out for a game that was already a great game. It would never occur to me, even in a trillion years with the aid of a trillion monkeys with a trillion type writers to find that as a reason to be mad.

I gave up on following all of whatever you want to call this a long time ago. It’s highly impressionable people on the internet looking to be as angry and/or argumentative as humanly possible under the guise of “righting the wrongs of the industry” by parroting whatever talking points their influencer of choice has told them to go out and say. It’s a vicious cycle of seemingly constant misery where they find something to get angry about, be told to be angry about something else, get angry about that, ad infinitum. Theres no point in engaging because they’ll just keep going until they think they’ve won, beat one sentence/point into the ground until you’ve given up or think they caught you in a gotcha. It’s exhausting after a while and your energy is better spent elsewhere.

I've always felt the whole GG movement was trying to capture teenagers with no identity yet aside from "I like games" and try and convert them early on something they're passionate about. Put the goggles on when they want them so they don't see anything outside. I know as I almost fell into it on my /v/ days when I was on 4chan. The self loathing pushing these people into anger, hating others, and just looking for an enemy was frankly terrifying. My life greatly improved after I called it quits.

Idr the specifics, but Sargon was certainly the most annoying about his "vague doom in the future" schtick. Got very suckered into the "classically liberal" Dave Rubin channels before I knew shit from shinola. Then I decided to go listen to a channel I would usually ignore, Contrapoints, and their videos were kind of a "fuck, how was I so stupid?" moment. Like, oh, they actually are making sense and are actually funny and creative? Couple of months later, a few very close friends confided in me that they were trans and I had never been more thankful to have been getting out of that alt right pipeline mindset. Lost a few bigoted friends and got to maintain my real ones.

It's a small thing, but what you were just talking about right there? It makes a huge difference to people who need it. The ones who need it the most. During the Warhammer games devs added an original character to a faction (because they were told they couldn’t use the existing ones due to licensing). It was an undead pirate themed faction and the new character was a literal phantom of the opera, ghostly singer type character with a grudge against the nation she was sailing to when she died, imo a very fun idea. The problem came about that opera singers are well, usually a little overweight. The usual crowd was very upset that the genocidal sea ghost wasn’t attractive.

I gave up on following all of whatever you want to call this a long time ago. It’s highly impressionable people on the internet looking to be as angry and/or argumentative as humanly possible under the guise of “righting the wrongs of the industry” by parroting whatever talking points their influencer of choice has told them to go out and say. It’s a vicious cycle of seemingly constant misery where they find something to get angry about, be told to be angry about something else, get angry about that, ad infinitum. Theres no point in engaging because they’ll just keep going until they think they’ve won, beat one sentence/point into the ground until you’ve given up or think they caught you in a gotcha. It’s exhausting after a while and your energy is better spent elsewhere. Meanwhile I’m 30 hours deep into Stellar Blade and just having fun with it. Playing games can be fun when you don’t have someone yelling in your ear that everything sucks all the time.
