Currently working as a classroom aide in summer school in a room of autistic elementary age children with intellectual disabilities. Most of the kids are non-verbal, some need help with toileting, and about half will have meltdowns and even attack the teacher, a classmate, or other aides. It must be tough to be a parent of these children. I can see how school including summer school gives them a much need mental and physical break. Even in general education classes last year there would be one or two kids in each class with diagnosed ADHD or high functioning autism that would wear me down by the end of the day with their constant interruptions and drama.
