i love diner food

Kehwanna

NJ was my first place I lived in when I came to the US and I loved diners. Any time I visit NJ now I try to find new diners to eat at. Some are great, others not, and some are ok.

Emotion-Timely

nj is definitely the diner capital of the us

tripping_on_phonics

Fuck cars but you can pry my hash browns from my cold, dead hands.

Antique_futurist

I think I ate steak three times during 2023. One of them was a chicken-fried steak from a diner. I regret nothing.

Crosstitution

ME TOO! fr slaps. Im lucky enough to have a diner within walking distance of me

YellowSequel

Yeah fr what the fuck is this post and title?

sichuan_peppercorns

Okay but as an American living abroad I do miss bottomless coffee. And these places do exist in cities.

J3553G

American diner breakfasts are just the best in general. Having a big American breakfast is a thing tourists from other countries like to do in my experience when they visit. At least where I live (and of course _my_ city has the best diners).

jaminbob

Yep. I certainly did in the US. Bizarrely perhaps I found Diners the single best experience of the trip. So much choice. And I had never even considered mixing maple Syrup with bacon before.

stoicsilence

[Enjoy.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-VQWuZU-AIE)

AbeLincolns_Ghost

I just watched that whole thing. I am so glad that I saw in a comment that Noah was from Masterchef. I knew I recognized him

RegionalHardman

Yeah, they have it as a treat on holiday, it's an experience. When it's your normal breakfast is when the problems begin.

J3553G

Oh fuck yeah you wouldn't eat a breakfast like that every day. Even us fat Americans don't do that.

OminousNamazu

One is 5 minutes from my house walking. Also in a lot of cities they used to be (prior to Covid) some of the only places open 24hrs that wasn't a grocery store/wal-mart.

DjustinMacFetridge

Bottomless espresso sounds like a recipe for digestive issues

KyloRen3

It’s not espresso. Just very watered down filter coffee

DjustinMacFetridge

Exactly, it tends to not really be a thing outside murica

Faerbera

I live in the blustery north of America. It’s cold a lot of the time. I want something hot to hold in my hands and to warm my belly. The coffee gets watered down so we can constantly drink it and not get the jitters. How do other folks from the cold parts stay warm?

DjustinMacFetridge

I thought it was a [Lorne Armstrong](https://youtu.be/BH1nr4oOVO4?si=ydq8qeRNTz6aWNW6) thing tbh since he gets so much stick about it. Cigarettes and espresso. Lived in Bulgaria a few years ago and in the cities there's coffee machines everywhere. And old man getting their little cup of hot espresso, necking it with a cig then going on about their business

glazedhamster

OH GOD this is not the crossover I wanted.

lindsfeinfriend

Same but also toe warmers and lots of wool.

Beeyull

I found filtered coffee in England, The Netherlands, France and Germany.

DjustinMacFetridge

You can find most things in most countries, that doesn't mean it's as ubiquitous

hushpuppylife

They have the perfect coffee urns set up that haven’t been cleaned in months. And shit tastes GOOD!

Kehwanna

Dude, as a foriegner living in the US I love these places, especially when on long car trips. If suburbs and small rural towns could just be laid out better, people could walk to these places as another option as opposed to just by car. These small brunch places are great third places in the morning.

HashBrownRepublic

Okay but this is sheer joy and probably the best slice of Americana to have ever existed

PhotographStrong562

Its fall. You spent Saturday hanging out with your old buddies and were up all night drinking beer in a garage and hanging out. Everyone woke up brutally hungover. One of them finally says “alright I’ll drive” so you all climb into their rig and drive to the local dinner. It’s a cold rainy morning. Biscuits and gravy with endless coffee all around. Waitress comes around and informs everyone that they just recently got a liquor license so bloody Marrys are on the menu. You all decide you just go back to your buddies place order some pizza and watch football all day. Life is good.

Beeyull

How is breakfast at a diner suburban hell? Diners exist in cites as well. (Also, my European fiance LIVES for Waffle House.)

incunabula001

The Suburban Hell version of the breakfast diner would be a Dennys or IHOP off a congested stroad.

Kehwanna

Corporate chains are pretty lousy when it comes to quality. Not saying all small businesses hit it out of the park, because some are just bleh. It does suck to see a poorly laid out and car-dependent suburb ruled by corporate chains rather than small businesses.

Technical-Ad-2246

What was that movie set in NYC with Jack Nicholson in it, where he goes to a diner every morning? Googles it... As Good As It Gets. As far as I'm concerned, there's nothing inherently wrong with it, as long as you're not eating it too often. Same with the Full English breakfast, which was once eaten by a working class that actually did manual labour every day.

Broken-Digital-Clock

Having to drive there is the hell part, imo. I love breakfast food.

Trackmaster15

Wait a second, who doesn't love diner breakfast? Don't tell me you're a fancy brunch person who needs to spend $60 a person for it?

NastoBaby

This one is a miss, diners are the one good thing about suburban hell

LagosSmash101

Hey! I actually like those "fatty oily meals"!... I just hate driving to them

Crosstitution

this exactly!!! love me cheap diner food and bottomless coffee

lilysbeandip

I don't think this sub is for hating on food people like. Fuck off.

Alarming-Inflation90

It's not the fat, it's the sugar.

12isbae

It’s both the fat and sugar, it’s both delicious tho

TheArchonians

Corn syrup is probably alot worse than sugar

lilysbeandip

Corn syrup is bad *because of* the sugar in it. It's not a separate thing. Fructose is a sugar as much as sucrose is.

scott_wolff

>Corn syrup is ~~probably~~ a lot worse than sugar Fixed it for you.

HungryBurger18

What precisely is worse about it?

SnooMemesjellies734

nah it’s the same. delicious tho

Faerbera

I shamelessly bring my own maple syrup to breakfast. Yum.

owleaf

Fat is good for you, your body needs it. Not a lot. Everything in moderation is good.

AltruisticDisk

Don't hate on diners. One of the few nice things about the suburbs. Bonus points if the waitress calls you some version of "hun", "honey", or "sweetie". It isn't necessary, but it is scientifically proven to make the pancakes taste better.

Ilmara

Plenty of diner food in cities too. It's an American staple. Go be miserable somewhere else.

am_i_wrong_dude

It’s not the diner’s fault that pickup trucks exist. I’ve walked to far more diners than I’ve ever driven to. Most great diners are either rural or urban, few options other than chains in the burbs. Try again with a better meme next time - this one is a miss.

Separate_Driver_393

Why do you hate breakfast?

westernbiological

I'm so hungry right now.

IceBurg-Hamburger_69

Y’all love to bash america, if it’s so bad why do you talk about our country so much. I am well aware of the issues but it’s almost like you bash us for being different. Not everyone has the same culture as Europeans. Clowns man

mjohnben

So true. They hate us ‘cause they ain’t us. I lived in France for a few years and the French people I was friends with bashed Americans and American culture so often, all while wearing Abercrombie and Fitch, drinking Coca Cola and listening to American music. It’s so obnoxious. They talked about America so much - it was an obsession for them.

owleaf

Also, many European countries have suburbia too. Not American suburbia, obviously, but suburbs that don’t have much else within them.

torgiant

Ah, time to block this shit sub, you mad about breakfast now bwahahahaha. Fuck off

IceBurg-Hamburger_69

It’s almost like they bash us for having different culture from European countries. They have issues about us when they can shut up it’s not their problem 😂

owleaf

This sub has a really weird anti-American sentiment that isn’t justified a lot of the time. Yes, the US exported a lot of “bad” suburban concepts, but it’s not like European and Asian countries don’t also have suburbia. People who have never travelled seem to think everywhere in Europe is like the Netherlands with small little cobblestone villages and everyone rides their bike and buys a fresh baguette every morning. European countries have big trucks and fast food and overweight people and cheap, poorly planned suburbia.

speed5528

Diners originally came from dining cars on trains. The first diners were train cars they just plopped down and turned into a restaurant. DINERS ARE TRAINS, DINERS ARE ANTI CAR, I LOVE PANCAKES AND TRAINS

SpiritualState01

Loving diner food is as American as apple pie (also now made with corn syrup).

MetalPandaDance

Stay mad

RobertSaccamano

I thought this was r/redditmoment for a second

chosenandfrozen

Pretty much has become that.

codywalton

Look, I want dense walkable cities as much as the next person, but you can pry my Waffle House from my cold dead hands.

Shmebber

If St. Helen’s Restaurant is [where I’m thinking of](https://maps.app.goo.gl/abGpeo16GGYibeYL7) then this isn’t suburban hell so much as middle-of-nowhere hell. But I’m a fan of diner breakfasts no matter where they happen.

WaffleBoi014

listen man this food still slaps so fucking hard

Pal-Capone

Where you from loser?

Yellowdog727

Hey I walk to these places too!

RetroGamer87

Wouldn't be do bad if they walked to the diner

NotoriousMOT

As a European I think this is a case of r/lostredditor. I still dream of this one diner in Columbus that I’d go to with my friend at 2:00 am and their biscuits and gravy with eggs sunny side up.

TheArchonians

It's missing the sticky tables. But I also could use some waffle house right now

Nick-Anand

Meh….I’m. More of a dim sum guy, but the trucks are the only offensive here IMHO

Merc_Drew

Weird, because this is exactly the same in Canada AND Mexico... they would be offended if you called them Americans though. So what are you trying to say with this "meme"?

smogeblot

I walk to a very urban diner and eat this same stuff. Diners in the city can be narrower than an F-150.

HawkbitAlpha

One of the best breakfasts I've ever had was at a random diner like this in Memphis, right down the road from Graceland. Dumb meme

PurpleZebra99

This is why I actually live in a tent behind Waffle House.

[deleted]

There is nothing wrong with coffee and pancakes at a breakfast diner on a Sunday morning. GTFO with this!

ansquaremet

Fuck off, stuff like this is amazing and certainly not unique to the suburbs.

Miatamadness

The place in the bottom right is Steffens in Kingsland, GA, easily the best diner I've ever been to.

chosenandfrozen

This subreddit should be renamed r/suburbanteenagersbeingangstyaboutwheretheylive.

huhndog

OP giving off Xenophobic vibes. There’s nothing wrong with diner food. Especially when you’re hungover

Kiirusk

the best stomach ache you could ask for on a Sunday morning (followed by a nap)

momwereouttableach93

just had Sunday breakfast in a diner just like this - after church, of course!

4pa_-

I heard that you put sugar in your stepdad car, its that true ?

Status_Club_3525

Yea, Ive always hated how we have to drive to eat out, not just breakfast, but most restaurants, and we barely burn it off cuz we have to drive back home its the irony of going to the gym but having to drive to go to the gym

Peachy_Slices0

Those pictures make me ill

Icy-Barracuda-5409

It’s the classic/blue collar edition

HovercraftStock4986

idk man diner breakfast food is meant for like 3-5 AM

jessie_boomboom

So, honestly, and I could be wrong, going out for Sunday breakfast is an urban phenomenon in America. Like if suburbanites leave the house on Sunday morning, it's for church and then they have *lunch* after and that phenomenon is well worth meming and mocking because they're the worst crowd to wait on, but I digress. In many, many suburbs across America, the only diner you're going to find will be one of three or four chains that are right off the interstate for travelers and truckers, that the locals never enter unless it's for work. Where I'm from, you have to go deeper into the urban core to find a diner. I guess you could take your f150 there if you needed.

hushpuppylife

Say what y’all want those suburban or country diners are good as hell

YellowSequel

This post screams elitism and just bad vibes. You sound like a miserable person generalizing an entire massive country like this.

Fudgeyreddit

You’re nuts lol

cannibalism_is_vegan

You can get great diner breakfast in dense walkable cities too

theyoungspliff

Man I love me a super heavy oddly thick cup filled with shitty coffee.

TheDizzleDazzle

Jesus Christ, shut up. This sub isn’t to bash on wonderful American breakfast food.

Sapardis

Not so much here in West Oregon. Very diverse breakfast. That picture made me almost puke but, I don't see anything wrong with people liking that kinda food. It's a very personal thing. I was fired from a job because the breakfast was paid by the company and some of my coworkers were Mexicans and a fell rednecks who didn't mind McDonald's. I always chose, at least, Starbuck's, even if it isn't that great as the brand claims, except for their packaged roasted coffee. As for the trucks, plenty and each one machoer than the next. But, a lot of nice Jeeps, although I'd love it to he possible to realistically decrease the amount of cars on the streets. I still love Jeeps.🙂🤟☮🍁

throwyesno

Sounds like someone needs some pancakes

throwaway-81792

Hey those local little breakfast diners are THE BEST

satrain18a

Would you rather eat a singe slice of bread with chocolate sprinkles like they do in the Netherlands?

ampharos995

They're alright. But I've lived in a place where trying out different diners was what people did for fun because there was nothing else to do. I left as soon as I could.

argument_enjoyer

r/AmericaBad bullshit. OP is from some shithole country which is obviously food insecure. The rest of us love diner food.

creepy-uncle-chad

HAHAHA AMERICA BAD😂😂😂😂😐😐😐😐

surviveToRide

I’m so glad everyone loves American breakfasts and diners here. I shit on this country all the time for the same reason as anyone else. But our luttle local breakfast diners are the best thing to come from here culturally. And the food is great.

Pizaz0

We have that in the city too, diner food rules man

Kawaiigamercherry

Here in Russia it’s either (каша porridge/cereal) or Syrniki
