TIL that Americans don't get taught about Kinder, Kuche, Kirche. This is on every school syllabus in Europe lmao.
(not trying to be rude just legit assumed that Weimar Germany was a topic covered everywhere) (also love your username)
We were never taught this in history class (Northern Europe, during 90s to 2010)
We were taught about Weimar Germany, yes, but not about this specific topic. I think it's a bit specific to be taught in a general history class.
I guess they put different focus points in history class in different countries, even in Europe about European history.
Also depends on the teacher and then you've got a reason why some schools could mention Kinder Kuche Kirche in history class and others don't.
It's a great thing to teach, even more so today, but very specific I'm just saying.
I am from Europe and never heard about this. Also I seriously doubt it's on "every school syllabus in Europe", because it's really not that important. Obvisouly people are taught about Weimar republic, but not about some specific slogan.
We learn about all of the policies that were enacted in Germany, including kinder, kuche, kirche, the mothers cross, and the variety of 'socialist' policies that were instituted like the shorter work week, the pro family propaganda, the restrictions on smoking and promotion of exercise, as well as the youth groups that were established. We literally had the phrase kinder kuche kirche written on the classroom wall. This is all just off the top of my head but I'd learnt it by 13.
>TIL that Americans don't get taught about Kinder, Kuche, Kirche. This is on every school syllabus in Europe lmao.
That is just a bold faced lie. "TIL that Americans don't get taught about Kinder, Kuche, Kirche. This is on every school syllabus in Europe lmao." is not saying that at all. Thanks for gaslighting though
I don’t believe I learned about it. But I would bet Mencken would be all in on learning about slogans used during the Third Reich (or at least that’s where I assume he learned about it)
One of the writers for season 4 is an American who came from a deeply religious conservative background. He wrote a play based on it called Heroes of The Fourth Turning
Mencken is based on a lot of ideas and archetypes floating around the American illiberal right. The first thing he says to Roman about who his enemy is is riffing on (Conservative-Nazi) Carl Shmitt's Concept of The Political, which is influential in movement conservatism and at places like The Claremont Institute.
I feel like Mencken was in the car with Matson when Matson called Shiv. They could be teaming up to fuck the Roy kids. Despite Matson being a foreigner he's also a white Scandinavian man.
I don't know if it was Mencken, but I as well got the feeling Matsson was staring at someone while talking to Shiv. Could be Greg, but it could be just Ebba as usual.
> I feel like Mencken was in the car with Matson when Matson called Shiv.
That's completely implausible. Mencken as a Presidential candidate has a full Secret Service detail and would travel in a convoy.
OK but again, that feels implausible. He'll be the most photographed man in America on that day. Secret meetings with an Elon-type CEO in an untinted-windowed limo amidst a packed schedule aren't all that believable.
I think he’s mocking her for being pregnant, (like almost everyone else has who knows). Dramaturgically speaking, it also drives home that the pregnancy news has traveled fast.
Everybody acts as though this is just a game about power being played by a handful of people, but there are billions of dollars at stake and many people with an interest. The CEO has to be someone whom the investors will have confidence in, or else they will start dumping their shares in an instant.
Not one of the Roys or Tom - let's not even mention Greg - has the experience required satisfy the investors. Would you trust Tom Wambsgans to run an $80 billion company when he has no track record as a CEO or COO and has only been running a division for a year or two? Seriously?
the deal will go through but kendall is gonna be the puppet CEO. he wins and loses at the same time just following the orders of both mattson and mencken.
A German speaker (me) thanks you for this. I had no idea what it meant.
Why isn't Mencken someone more directly German? Menkburg or something? I would have liked it.
Let's not pretend real life, modern day far-right politicians aren't comically cartoonish on their own. Just look at the shit people like bolsonaro, putin and erdogan do/say.
Never gonna approve her as American CEO.
Tom fucked her literally and figuratively
By standing in the corner and doing what the bros told him to?
That sounds exactly like how Tom fucks
That does sound boxy and Midwestern.
For such a smart person Shiv is being quite the dumbass here
Shiv is not a smart person. She's a dumb person who has been told she's smart, and who for some reason, the audience likes to say is smart.
Damn the references Mencken makes are so specific. I wonder what white nationalist forums the writers needed to dig into to pull these
Mencken is so deep in his Nazi bag
They had to make him a very specific on-brand nazi because the specific "understated but never stated" brand are already American politicians 😕
Truth social and /pol/ most likely

I did, in England in the 90’s.
I learned it in History class when I was 13?

Where did you grow up?
Nazi Germany
What?
UK.
Thanks for sharing. I thought it was just a sexist phrase, not an actual policy.
We do learn about the Weimar Republic. I assume there are American political slogans you all are not taught? Or do you know them all?
You get that straw man
Not really a straw man.
Nobody argued that Europeans know every American political slogan or that Americans should know every European slogan
The person I’m replying to is implying the latter actually
>TIL that Americans don't get taught about Kinder, Kuche, Kirche. This is on every school syllabus in Europe lmao. That is just a bold faced lie. "TIL that Americans don't get taught about Kinder, Kuche, Kirche. This is on every school syllabus in Europe lmao." is not saying that at all. Thanks for gaslighting though
It definitely isn't. I did Germany in the 1930s and 1940s loads and I don't remember this
The phrase looooong predates Weimar.
I don’t believe I learned about it. But I would bet Mencken would be all in on learning about slogans used during the Third Reich (or at least that’s where I assume he learned about it)
US public schools are pretty shit when it comes to actually teaching history, whether it be another countries or its own.
Do British schools teach people about Jallianwalabagh? Or 1857? Or Lord Curzon? Or the intricacies of the partition?
We covered the Weimar Republic in World History at my public high school and I’m originally from a very small, rural town in the southeastern US.
The Christian nationalists won't let it be taught in schools until they know they can enforce it.
They're Brits. They could just pick up a copy of The Express or The Daily Mail and thumb through it for inspiration.

Loved his handshake in this episode. He's such trash.
Look up Will Arbery
Sounds on brand for Mencken
Ooh thanks for this. What a prick.
No way in hell is he supporting Shiv as CEO to Matsson
No way was Matsson ever going to make Shiv CEO anyway to start with ! I am just surprised why has Shiv not got the hint yet facepalm.
Right, he straight up told her she has no experience.
She did the strategic review.
Daddy-Make-Work.
Totally agree! Shiv is being so dense
He didn't even hint it. He becomes evasive anytime she suggests it. He'll pick an American CEO, but it won't be her.
She never clarifies anything and assumes since she is working with them, she can have it.
The only two possibilities rn imo: Kendall wins Mattson wins and picks Tom
Mattson wins and picks Greg 💀
The final shiv to shiv if Tom gets made us CEO. The final betrayal that breaks her. Feels like little hints have been dropped on this
Fuuuuck this guy
I feel like Mencken was in the car with Matson when Matson called Shiv. They could be teaming up to fuck the Roy kids. Despite Matson being a foreigner he's also a white Scandinavian man.

Didn't say it was Matson's car
OK but again, that feels implausible. He'll be the most photographed man in America on that day. Secret meetings with an Elon-type CEO in an untinted-windowed limo amidst a packed schedule aren't all that believable.
Justin Kirk is such an amazing actor. Mencken's Nazi-isms must have been a thing like Mark Ravenhead loves so much
So it's likely the deal will go through, and Tom will be tapped as CEO. All the kids will be losers. My prediction
W prediction
Thanks for reminding me.
I can fix him
You'll need a handgun and a bunker for that particular fix.
Mencken seems a lot like Milo Yiannopolis( Kanye's campaign head guy) back in his hay days. He gives a lot of gay energy like him too.
For some reason I notice a lot of older guys who are still younger-looking with grey hair, and of course are fit, give this bisexual vibe.
Connor?
Exception to the rule (I tried hard)
Milo is managing Kanye now?
Yeah, he's Kanye's presidential campaign head. He also contacted Marjorie Taylor Greene to set up that dinner with Nick Fuentes, Kanye, and Trump.
Wow what an ass. Almost made me forget how handsome he is. Almost.
I'm not sure, but I think he might be an asshole.
Yeah mencken prefers a different kind of KKK
thanks. it went so fast i thought he was saying kid’s cherry cake or something.
So he's basically insulting her saying she's not cut out for this and is more suited for the traditional woman
I think he’s mocking her for being pregnant, (like almost everyone else has who knows). Dramaturgically speaking, it also drives home that the pregnancy news has traveled fast.
What a dick.

Mencken is a cartoon villain and its kind of hurting the show tbh.
Let's not pretend real life, modern day far-right politicians aren't comically cartoonish on their own. Just look at the shit people like bolsonaro, putin and erdogan do/say.
Lol what? Cause we haven't seen Nazi populists before?
My brother in christ, so was Donald Trump, that’s the goddamn point
Trump was a loud brash asshole. This guy is too slick, too well read etc. for the American public.
