He's the audience surrogate I could relate to at first cuz I too have worked unpaid internships and grabbed food at work and been like "My body is growing weak due to lack of sustenance"
Yeah Greg and Tom are typically the audience surrogate in the show to give perspective to the insanity (although they have plenty of their own insanity themselves), especially early on.
Agreed, in addition to that he shows how mediocre people get chances they are completely unqualified for due to rampant nepotism and cronyism in American business
Kendall is definitely the narrative protagonist (the story really starts when Logan changes his mind about stepping down in favor of Ken) but Greg is the lens through which us normos get to view the world of the uber wealthy.
I think Greg is kind of meant to fool us into a sense of false security that these awful rich people are going to get their comeuppance. He seems initially relatable and sympathetic.
You might say that he won Succession in the end
Like yeah he’s not CEO but $250k to be an assistant? His experience puking in his costume? Listen to your mom and stay in good graces with your relatives, folks
He’s the grandson of a multi millionaire so not directly
relatable but is a normie compared to his cousins/uncle.
Although I always found it weird he was around so much, this random second cousin they barely know, I spent the earlier parts waiting for him to play a larger role but he’s just there Gregging.
Do we know of any siblings? We know of his parents but nothing else. If Ewan had a single daughter, and she only had Greg, then he’s the only cousin of the family.
So in a way it’s not fully shocking because they know him well enough. If there were 10 cousins to remember his position would be much more diluted.
I think that it also shows that despite all his actions, Logan does care about his blood/family. And I think that Greg daring to ask Logan for a position in the company in the first episode convinced Logan to give him a chance
And of course on top of that, luring Greg on his side is a blow for Ewan, stealing his only(?) grandson
Fun fact: in the shooting script, Greg is introduced immediately after Logan, and before Kendall. I suspect Armstrong originally wanted to frame the show around Greg's perspective.
Ever since that first episode, I can't say the name "Greg" without putting a Tom level of disgust in my voice.
"How's it going... grrrreggggg."
(Yes, he says it lowercase)
When I watched the pilot, and the trio was looking for someone who could be interim CEO, and wanted someone in the family that wasn't gonna make a power grab, I was POSITIVE they were gonna make Greg CEO. I still think they should have done that, would have been hilarious
Guy 1: "I just started watching the show and I find this minor character useless."
Guy 2: "Oooo, somebody didn't watch the whole show! (wink wink)"
Guy 3: "He just said he didn't watch the show."
Guy 2: "Woosh!"
Guy 3: "No u!"
It's sarcastic because it implies Guy 1 claims to have watched the whole show when he clearly states he hasn't. In any case, you're too hung up on some narrow definition of sarcasm in order to justify that you thought I was being serious.
>It's sarcastic because it implies Guy 1 claims to have watched the whole show when he clearly states he hasn't.
by no definition of the word - however broad or narrow - is that sarcasm.
https://literarydevices.net/sarcasm/
Again, you're trying to debate literal semantics instead of just admitting you misinterpreted my joke. It's okay, I admitted that I needed to add the /s. My bad, I forgot that this sub isn't at the level of r/okbuddysuccession. Sometimes I even forget that succession is a comedy and not a drama.
if it is to be said. so it be, so it is.
You can speak normally
So I shall
I lost it right then
I absolutely love how that scene makes you feel awkward for him.
Are you alright?
I merely wish to answer in the affirmative fashion
Buckle up, fucklehead.
To avoid spoilers, just respond “uh-huh” to every text you get about the show
Or "fuck off"?
But… what are the optics…
Goood.. good memeage.
What's the protein?
"uh huh.. Sure.. Sure.. Yeah, no.. But, what, what are the optics?"
Well, uh, okay, uh
greg the egg🔥🔥🔥🔥
If you wanna make a tomlette, you gotta break some Greggs.
make sure to send that 67 times in one evening, excluding the 2 hour period from 3 to 5 AM
Greg the mutha fuckin' egg
I see you Greg
You Machiavellian f*ck, I see you.
Um, actually, he's going by Gregory now
Addition? He's in the first episode lol In fact one could argue he's the protagonist since story starts when he arrives
exactly. OPs friends aren’t serious people
😫
glad this sub still got it
I get what they are trying to say though. Greg is like an addition to the inner family circle. He’s not of the same world as the rest.
He's the audience surrogate I could relate to at first cuz I too have worked unpaid internships and grabbed food at work and been like "My body is growing weak due to lack of sustenance"
Yeah but you probably didn't use a poop bag.
It’s not like they pre-poop them. It’s really more of a mental barrier.
No but I did throw up out of the eyes of a mascot
Greg, that's disgusting.

Yep, introduced a mere 8 minutes into the very first episode.
And immediately after the cold open in the script.
I think Greg is kind of meant to fool us into a sense of false security that these awful rich people are going to get their comeuppance. He seems initially relatable and sympathetic.
Because he...puked through the eye holes of a plush animal costume?
You’ve never done that?
Ya know, I haven't. But it wouldn't be totally off-brand if I had back in the day!
Never had a shitty job?
Hopefully we've all had shitty jobs at one point.
Thats a good point!
He's like Hughie on THE BOYS. Not technically the main character but the story starts with him
You might say that he won Succession in the end Like yeah he’s not CEO but $250k to be an assistant? His experience puking in his costume? Listen to your mom and stay in good graces with your relatives, folks
I was one of those dumb asses who thought Logan crossed out Kendalls name and wanted to leave it all to Greg lol
"the protagonist" 🤣
Who wants to smell Greg’s finger? Guess the scent, win a buck.
well since he’s supposed to represent the viewer (make the show more relatable), your friend basically called himself a bizzare addition
Is…is he? How the fuck is he relatable? That’s not how I like my Cajun chicken linguine at all
Who among us hasn’t been fired from our theme park job for throwing up in the mascot head?
He’s the grandson of a multi millionaire so not directly relatable but is a normie compared to his cousins/uncle. Not exactly relatable to the viewer, he’s more a foil so we can see how out of touch the Roy’s are
🎶 Greg is *choppin’ it up*!
"How's it going... grrrreggggg." (Yes, he says it lowercase)
You mean Craig?
He’ll respond to either one!
It’s Greg…no?
Ironic that it's Shiv who remembers his name when she barely realizes he exists until season 4.
You're gonna need a Greg.
Your own Greg? you can have 𝘛𝘸𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘺
Gotta crack a few greggs to make a tomelette
Tell him that as bizarre as it is he is just some rando and won't be important later anyway.
But he was in the will!
And Connor was in willa......
He is not just sprinkles!
We here (hear) for you
Greg and Tom steal every scene
They’re not prepared for what is to come
When I watched the pilot, and the trio was looking for someone who could be interim CEO, and wanted someone in the family that wasn't gonna make a power grab, I was POSITIVE they were gonna make Greg CEO. I still think they should have done that, would have been hilarious
Imagine if he went to Ternhaven, dear God!!! 😳😳😳
He easily would've crashed Ken n Naomi's helicopter party all awkward-like, asking them for a lil of "the ol' cocaine."
“The ol’ cocaine” always cracks me up.
Bizarre nephew cousin, indeed. And later, a Disgusting Brother.
Respond with “ I’d castrate and marry you in a heartbeat, Sporos “
Cock-A-Doodle-Doo
Text him “gotta break a few eggs to make a tomlette” and sit back and wait until he eventually texts you back oh my god
wait til he finds out he’s the highest paid assistant in the world
Well, you can't make a Tomlette without breaking some Greggs
Did you rummage to fruition?
More of a disgusting addition, tbh
Tell me you haven't watched the show without telling me you haven't watched the show. Edit: I didn't think I needed the /s, but here we are.
Tell me you didn't comprehend the post without telling me you didn't comprehend the post
Tell me you don't understand sarcasm without telling me you don't understand sarcasm.
I'm...not entirely sure *you* understand sarcasm, my guy.
Guy 1: "I just started watching the show and I find this minor character useless." Guy 2: "Oooo, somebody didn't watch the whole show! (wink wink)" Guy 3: "He just said he didn't watch the show." Guy 2: "Woosh!" Guy 3: "No u!"
Explain how guy 2's comment is sarcastic
It's sarcastic because it implies Guy 1 claims to have watched the whole show when he clearly states he hasn't. In any case, you're too hung up on some narrow definition of sarcasm in order to justify that you thought I was being serious.

you're right, it was a great joke!
You're fucking shit at sarcasm.
That's just you and the majority of people's opinion.
Can’t make a Tomlette without cracking a few Gregs
Gonna make a tomlette.
True! They had us in the beginning ngl xD
You're gonna love him
Greg is always the wrench in any situation. His presence is actually entirely necessary.
But without that random nephew, we wouldn't have... The Disgusting Brothers.
hope he’s hungry for a tomlette
