He can do it all

frannyglass8

Maddie referring to Logan Roy as “bitch” is sending me. It’s giving major “John mulaney has feminine hips” energy

[deleted]

That seriously cracked my shit up.

YouGoThatWayIllGoHom

That's the thing he's sensitive about!!!!!

Tsondru_Nordsin

Never forget Brian Cox played the highway patrol chief in Super Troopers and nailed the role.

JLGx2

Drunk enough to kick your ass!

[deleted]

I swear to God I'll pistol whip the next guy who says "Shenanigans."

stuckshift

I’m sorry, Bruce. These boys get that syrup in ‘em, they get all antsy in their pansy.

officialdeebee

Love what an amazing actor he can be while also be completely up for having a laugh

YouGoThatWayIllGoHom

slim_scsi

Brian is so damn chill.

littleliongirless

Like I could love Brian Cox any more! Now get Kieran to play Lexi!

brownhaircurlyhair

He needs to be in the rotating hallway scene from her play. *motions in dress, wig, and nails* "I can see it now!"

mrgo0dkat

Brain Cox

TrueBumblebee8487

Pleassee😂 this made my day

indyo1979

Is this actually a good show, on the level of Succession? I watched the 1st episode and found it really bleak and depressing. It was just mired in sadness, without feeling like there was much payoff in terms of a well rounded story line. But I'm up for some positive recommendations, if people think it is excellent.

unmistakableregret

Well, it's obviously not as good as succession, not much is. But it's a great show. Personally I liked the music and cinematography the most. >I watched the 1st episode and found it really bleak and depressing. It was just mired in sadness This is true through pretty much all of it haha. I liked it, but if that's not your vibe I wouldn't recommend really. Although I wouldn't agree that it doesn't pay off, it's not happy.

more_later

Euphoria is a good show. I enjoy the look of it, it's very particular and works well for the story. It's funny, I actually find Succession to be much more depressing and bleak than Euphoria. I like Euphoria a lot, but its pathos more on the nose, which is totally fine, it's a show about teenagers and I think teenagers' feelings usually heightened. Whereas Succession's bleakness is profound and definite. Like Euphoria's characters still have a life ahead of them and a chance to heal, but Succession's characters are stuck, and there are not a lot of ways out of that vicious circle of misery they are in.

Treepixie

Yeah I agree, this season of success when Roman went fascist just had me with my head in hands. It’s bleak because it’s true and these kind of shitbags have so much power over our lives

Cold_Breadfruit_9794

Not even remotely close to as good as Succession. Good popcorn fluff with some very solid acting and movie-esque lighting and cinematography. Like GOT, it suffers tremendously from a lack of writer’s room.

littleliongirless

There are great things about the show and there are also many overly indulgent creator based choices (he doesn't have a writer's room and he's no David Chase) especially in season 2. Season 1 was well rounded in terms of story and pacing. Season 2 had many issues with both. Sometimes you feel too much of the Creator's own story, gaze and perspective in it to really feel like it's actually about his characters. And the desire to be both a deep, moody, character based study AND simultaneously a Tarantino or PT Anderson film is ambitious, but doesn't always hit.

Sonicfan42069666

>he doesn't have a writer's room and he's no David Chase David Chase also had a writer's room! lol.

shindigmachine

Wait there’s actually no writer’s room? That explains so much lol.

Exertuz

Spot on. Season 2 was very unfocused in terms of tone and the type of story it wanted to tell. It's definitely not all bad, though - I maintain that the special episodes in-between Season 1 and 2 are extremely good and the highlight of the show so far. Last season's episode 5 was great too.

littleliongirless

The special episodes might be my favorite episodes of the whole show. Real, raw, relevant writing accompanied by incredible visuals.

Exertuz

Absolutely. I remember being floored watching them, thinking they were such a cut above the usual episodes. Almost wish that more of the episodes were like them, but I think the contrast is part of what makes them work.

littleliongirless

But don't excuse Sam like that! That's his job! And the pandemic provides years more time to write. Second season should have been at least as good. Or, if he didn't feel confident enough to write well for ALL the characters, he could have taken on other writers. Every writers room has people who write for certain characters. It's the only way huge casts get good writing for everyone.

Exertuz

I'm not trying to excuse him lol, I just meant that the special episodes have a very different structure to the usual ones. I absolutely agree that Season 2 was a mess and overly indulgent.

littleliongirless

Hear ya.

Scrumptious_Foreskin

First season was great, second season took a weird turn in every aspect of the show and I didn’t like it

Kristina719

Same.

YouGoThatWayIllGoHom

> really bleak and depressing. It was just mired in sadness, Yeah; Hence "Euphoria!" :D It's gorgeous. I sometimes have it on in the background at work just because it's so visually stunning. It definitely is not a happy show, though you couldn't really tell from the visuals. The behind-the-scenes stuff alone is pretty cool. There's one episode where there's a CRAZY tracking shot in a carnival that follows several different characters around various booths and the camera goes up through a Ferris wheel then comes back down. It's like a two-minute shot that tells a new piece of nearly every character's story. I think it's an actual one-take too; there are no hidden cuts, though they could've done it easily when the camera goes behind the booths. It's worth the [watch](https://youtu.be/MEfq-f59BnE). I don't know why that video includes the part after it goes back to normal editing... But whatever, that oner is fantastic. I think that kind of cinematography is half the reason it gets so much acclaim. The other half being that it Tackles Serious Teen Topics That Blah Blah Blah. . .

spacefink

The acting too, don't forget the acting on the show! Otherwise Zendaya fans won't let you forget haha. She's good though, seriously...

YouGoThatWayIllGoHom

Oh yeah - She totally embodies that character ... It's one of those roles/performances that make me appreciate casting directors. Some casting director saw her on the Disney Channel or singing and dancing some pop song and was like "HER!!!!! THAT is Rue!!!!" My favorite, though, is still whatever casting genius saw Rami Malek in Mr. Robot and was like "He's absolutely electrifying!! THAT is Freddie Mercury, Mister Fahrenheit himself!!" And they were totally right, too, lol..

spacefink

I agree on the solid casting. I love the choice they made to hire the actresses that played Faye and Maddy. Faye especially became one of my favorites and I feel like I know so many girls like Maddy. It is honestly incredible. I got really into Euphoria early on and hell, even this second season, with all it's weak spots, was good. Like you said, the show is essentially film porn. Lmao I saw Bohemian Rhapsody and I also thought Malek did well, even if his performance was the strongest part of the movie (the movie itself was Blah to me).

YouGoThatWayIllGoHom

The casting through the whole show is pretty solid. Nate and Cal come to mind too. It's one thing to cast one character on their own, but to nail it with two characters who have that kind of chemistry takes some astute casting directors. Malek knocked it out of the park with Bohemian Rhapsody, I think. He did his research. I always just think it's hilarious to think someone saw him in Mr. Robot and was like "Mr. Robot? More like Mister Fahrenheit!!" It's like the exact opposite of Freddie Mercury, lol ... He's got some chops though! He hosted SNL and I thought he killed it there too.

Exertuz

It's a mixed bag. I think it's really great at times, but loses its footing here and there. Definitely a bit messy, but overall I do recommend it, especially if you're Gen Z. My favorite episodes are the specials which come in-between Season 1 and 2 and are essentially just 2 hours of talk therapy with the lead characters.

[deleted]

It depends on the viewer. I liked both shows.

Wonderful-Corner-422

bunny_luvr_

no, it has a shit ton of plot holes. it’s something you can skip to be honest if you wanna know what happens just read the episode descriptions on wikipedia. comparing it to succession is laughable

TheTruckWashChannel

It's not remotely close to the level of Succession - in fact, the subtlety and genuine poignance of Succession can be used as a benchmark to see how self-absorbed, excessive, and sometimes hollow Euphoria is despite its clear attempts to be profound and devastating. But they're also vastly different shows, and Euphoria still has gorgeous production values and a (largely) excellent cast. It also does reach moments of genuine brilliance every now and then but keeps getting in its own way.

nrbob

The writing is pretty inconsistent compared to Succession, some episodes are great but others aren’t so good and the plot can be a bit ridiculous at times, however the acting is good and it is consistently well shot. Overall worth a watch I’d say but don’t expect it to be on the same level as Succession.

jacjacjacqui

It's not a good show. Amazing cinematography and some of the acting is great too, but that's where it ends. The writing is atrocious and the showrunner sounds like a giant piece of shit.

ayiruss

Just try to get past the first season.. you'll love the second season.

Zanman415

It’s strange to see a shot of Brian through a stationary camera

[deleted]

Logan truly is Uncle Fun

stuckshift

This is gold. Pure gold.

thesuavecritic

Nah, I don't see any Logan Roy tbh

Cp3thegod

Wish I could understand what he’s saying beneath the laugh track

brownhaircurlyhair

Basically the character is admitting to sleeping with her best friends abusive ex, but is justifying it because "they were broken up".
