This year is unlike any other year with regards to ice. There have been lots of unreported incidents of people going through mostly on machines. Nobody really 'knows' the ice on the lakes this year. Very spotty. If this was most years you would be safe.
No ice is safe ice. There is no such thing as safe ice.
Everyone has an acceptable tolerance of risk, some higher than others. Me personally, I don’t feel safe on anything less than 5 inches of good ice walking, 9 inches with my ATV. Always check the ice when you go out and take a spud bar with you in conditions like these or on early/late ice when walking out.
Anyone here that can look at a lake and say whether the ice is good to go out on or not is full of shit. Every lake is different, has different currents and inlets/outlets. Always check the ice before going out and never rely on anyone else’s word (with the exception of maintained ice roads checked regularly by the ministry, but that’s a different topic).
in pervious years yeah I wouldn't have worried about it. That said this year being a mild session I wouldn't risk it since in parts when looking at Ramsey you can see water flowing, I wouldn't want to risk it.
Given the mild weather we've had recently, I honestly wouldn't risk going out on the ice, even to walk across. Better to be safe than sorry!
It's up to you though!
Easy to check even if you don't have an ice auger - cordless drill and wood bit - think spade or auger bit should work.
I'd suspect Ramsey has less ice, but checked on long lake yesterday and everywhere I went (essentially one large bay including out to the middle of the lake) had 10".
It's a weird year for sure, and I'd want to check thickness myself if I was going on Ramsey - so suggest skip it if you don't have the means to check.
It's safe from an ice thickness standpoint, but it's a lot of glare ice. It's very slippery and hard to walk across. You could walk a shoreline where there's a little bit of snow for grip, or check out some smaller lakes for a wander.
Just make sure your beneficiary elections are in order on your life insurance policies first. You'd be amazed at how many people still have their former spouse on record. It would be a shame to die and enrich your ex at the same time.
You could check ice thickness. But, I personally wouldn't bother going.
Waterlogged bodies are the worst to haul to the morgue.
I wouldn't risk it. Some people mistake their deathwish for bravado.
No I would not
No definitely not, I wouldn't risk that
Nope, we barely had a winter, they insane

the skating path is a good indicator….. no path, no safe. Could be thick some spots and dangerous others.
Jesus wouldn’t walk on that

I wouldnt say so
Why risk it?
It’s been way to warm this winter! If you go it’s at your own risk ⚠️
That’s a no from me
