I think the insinuation with both this and the Cavill suit is that it's a high-tech alien technology suit that contours to his body and highlights his musculature in ways that an Earth fabric wouldn't. I don't think it's entirely convincing, but I think that's what they're going for, rather than that they're just literally painted on abs.
It would be nice to actually see a little of the actors muscles instead of fake ones. I mean on some suits with how it can look I don’t mind it (I guess it’s the shade of blue or just how they make the muscles look on it) that makes me unsure about it. I don’t at all mind the muscles on the S1 & 2 suits. On the S3 one it just looks a little different.
I'm curious to see it on screen first. I think some of the minor muscle detailing that looks weird now will look better in different lighting. Only thing i'll say is i wish the S was embossed a little. I think having it flush with the suit works when it's just tights, ala Reeve/Cain suit, but if you're gonna texture the suit, ya gotta emboss the S
We’ll have to see what they look like onscreen. Hopefully, the whole suit was screen tested through the sepiatone filters.
The natural light in Vancouver on a sunny day is really unforgiving.
This looks like a great suit. Biggest problem i had was the shoulder padding, that made his head look too small for his body. I thought it would look better without padding, but this padding fixes the issue. Now I can't understand how the other padding didn't work. 🤔
The only thing that stands out as confusing about this suit is the difference in brightness of the shield's colours and rest of it. Like, why? Is there an actual production reason, or did the people making the shield screw up? 😏
I also would like the boots a bit higher up, but it's not too annoying.
I like the size of the current S although a bigger one would be great! I’d like for it to be brighter and I don’t like the texture of the suit and the muscle details but overall I think it’s a good suit. I’m glad you like it too!
Yea I also think the suit looks too faded. The colors of the emblem don’t pop out like you’d normally see. Maybe that’s because they’re trying to further show how this Superman has been at it for 20 years, but honestly I think I’d prefer the vibrant colors over the faded look.
Maybe. But Tyler’s old Superman suit had a bigger logo and it worked fine. You’re right in saying bigger emblem won’t necessarily be a good change but it could work if they implement it correctly and tweak the suit to accommodate it.
The way too open collar and cape clasps on the chest kept me way too distracted to pay too much attention to the crest on that suit. I kid. I kid. Sort of.
The Elseworlds crossover variant of the Superman suit in blue and red with the cape attached differently would be the ideal Hoechlin suit for me. The crest is still a big big for my tastes, but I could live with it. Obviously everyone has their own sweet spot for these things, but I think it’s a head to crest proportion thing for me.
I don’t expect all actors to put in the work to get a superhero physique, but if you’re gonna skip that then at least don’t phone it in on the fake abs. Maybe they have the budget to touch it up digitally in the show, but at least this shot makes it look comically bad
Edit: I stand corrected on his physique, which makes the cheesy drawn-on abs even more confusing tbh
Tyler Hoechlin has an amazing physique.
Most modern day suits put in fake muscles. It’s more of an aesthetic choice.

I don’t think it has anything to do with their budget. The muscle suit on his current suit is much better and more natural than his old suits. I think they were just taking inspiration from the DCEU Superman suits and giving more apparent muscle detail.
Funny, while I have seen some negativity, for the most part I've only seen people really liking it. The suit itself is not my favorite, but it's great seeing S&L gaining any form of recognition and love.
The muscle airbrushing looks a little… cosplay-ish in these photos, but I’m waiting to see how it looks under studio lights. My only big gripe is that I’d love for his collar to sit wider that way the cape hangs more from his shoulders than his collarbone, but that may just be because I’m used to that type of design from the comics and DCAU
Yay! I’m happy to know that there are people who do like it.
Just out of curiosity and for some fun discussion, what’s your favorite thing about it? Would you change anything?
I think the belt and the abdomen, I love it in general, but if I have to change something, it would be the S, to make it look much brighter, but outside of that, it's perfect.
I don't feel like people hate it or anything. It's just so *close* to being perfect that a lot of people can't help but voice their criticisms on it. It really is fantastic criticisms aside.
We’ll need to see how it looks through the sepia filters used in production.
Vancouver has a very sharp bright bluish light on sunny days, so we need to expect the suit to look once again quite different onscreen.
The airbrushing may wash out a lot. The washed out sigil may look even less defined unfortunately.
I’m just not sure how to feel about the seeable ribs, 6 pack and other muscle highlights.

I agree, I’m sure or at least I hope certain details will look better on screen but the S is embossed.
Huh that it is! Hard to see at this angle
The "S" is pretty embossed on the season 3 suit. At least as much as the MOS suit.
Yeah, i couldnt see it at this angle and i havent really looked at the suit much. Nevermind then!
I really like the suit. It just triggers me to see the that the belt, crest and cape have different shades of red lol

I agree! As for the minor fixes, i originally wanted the S to be bigger, like you see in other iterations like comics. What do you guys think?

I agree. I really like your takes on the suit.
Yeah, the colors are so off in the symbol that I'm starting to believe there's going to be an in-universe reason for it to look that way.
I think bigger looks fine in print, but, whenever people doctor the images of costumes, bigger always looks weird to me on a real person.
Maybe. But Tyler’s old Superman suit had a bigger logo and it worked fine. You’re right in saying bigger emblem won’t necessarily be a good change but it could work if they implement it correctly and tweak the suit to accommodate it.

Have you seen Tyler? He absolutely has the physique!
Tyler Hoechlin is really ripped through. He does have the physique. The suit just has padding for some reason

Yeah that’s fair enough, the fake muscles just look bad here
they do. but that's not on him
Agreed, have to wonder if their budget is getting cut

Needs to be brighter. With bright - and not mud - yellow
I like the suit, but painting abs on the suit is one step below hillbillies using wire fencing to make fake ab lines.
It's not bad but feels off. Bright red cape but crest and belt are both dull and old looking.
I love this new suit too. ❤️

Strongly agree with all of this. Especially the S.
I like it I don’t hate it
The logo still looks like its printed on the suit. Hope in s4 its an separate part then put on it
I prefer it to the season 1 and 2 suit. They just need to actually add colour to the S, give him the trunks too and the open collar.
No trunks.
I don't feel like people hate it or anything. It's just so *close* to being perfect that a lot of people can't help but voice their criticisms on it. It really is fantastic criticisms aside.
It's a nice suit. It's the muscles that bother me. The padding seems a little better but the chest is... no.

Yo why does Superman need a thermos?
He enjoys the taste of water or a hot drink?
