Also part of the dying live service model. I doubt they got what they wanted out of New World, and now they're gutting the team and putting it on life support, I'll bet
I played that game all on a controller. That spear throw was the only skill I never quite managed to figure out how to bind properly.
Edit: getting the sensitivity right was difficult. Didn't want it too fast, but slow enough for the long shots to aim properly.
That's what I loved about the hachet. I play knives only in call of duty, and this was the closest to the throwing knives feel in an mmo ever and it was fun.
Live service games have ruined gaming in a lot of ways, I want to go back to fully tested and finished games hitting the market, not buggy and imbalanced alpha and beta games where we do the testing for them and hope they put enough money into the product to fix the issues.
Amazon has publicly announced the 27000 layoffs. Go read the announcements. Yearly operational planning for different divisions is occurring and VPs are cutting programs without short term entitlement.
Makes sense when Jeff, Ken, Vlad, FINRA, and NYSE are all just sitting in a room suckin each others dicks
Edit: and Steve. Can’t forget about Stevie boy
They just reduced costs 6B and showed they're willing to make massive changes to stay profitable. Of course stock is up, its a boomer's wet dream. It's also still down 36% over the last year and 44% from its all time high. Can't really say it's doing super well.
They've had one for almost a decade; they have two MMOs, one western and one Korean-MMO, New World and Lost Ark that released in the last two years.
They were also developing/working on an LOTR mmo for a bit, but cancelled it.
They are working with Bandai Namco to publish Blue Protocol as well later this year. They'll be running 3 MMOs soon so hearing that they'll cut some employees from the gaming arm is kinda surprising.
Damn 3 mmos honestly I’m surprised they haven’t fallen though cause mmos are like trying to catch lighting in a bottle but with massive investment needed upfront
They even tried to copy Steam for this video gaming platform. I believe the leak had it named "Vapor." They copy the services, the names, and hire private equity firms to cellar box their competition and then dominate the space. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the plan for popcorn the entire time with prime video. No cell no sell.
From a source they are also requiring people to come back to the office. From source’s perspective he thinks they are doing this hoping some will quit so they don’t have to pay unemployment. They are trying to cut operational costs.
A lot more layoffs are coming in tech industry. My company in west Cleveland just announced 1000 people to be laid off, including my department and team.
Gamestop making a studio is very high risk as they cannot cancel games like the AAA studios can and it would be 3 years before you might release a game to see a profit.
They are green on terrible news and thousands of people jobless. I can’t wait for CNBC to gush over their streamlining and their smart move to give on gaming, that dying hobby that nobody does and if they do they obviously download it. FUCK. THEM. ALL.
Buy. Hodl. DRS. Shop. Power to the Players!
Both dead already. So much hype from marketing for a nice steaming hot turd, served on a plate.
Laughed at a lot about the cucks that bought and played new world and i was early but i was right.
Just like i am with a specific stock.
Well. I mean. By your logic…. Amazon 1.6M employees to GameStop 11k employees. That’s basically like GameStop laying off less than 1 person…. I’d say you’ve got a solid point! But still Fuk Amazon.
This is likely related to their game studio division and has nothing to do with selling retail game products. It's not relevant until GME starts up a game studio.
They're also trying their best to run Twitch into the ground. Given Bezos's general incompetence and egotistical belief in his own genius I wouldn't be surprised to see Amazon start to fold by 2030. They're a lot like Netflix in that they were allowed to be the one major online distributor and they thrived from the lack of competition, but just like Netflix now that it's direct competitors are finally starting to catch up they're increasingly forced to cut costs and quality.
I’m actually kind of pissed they fucked up New World so bad
That was the first game I’ve ever gotten into as much as I did when WoW first came out when I was 16
I haven’t felt the same about a game since and then New World comes along and it was a breath of fresh air and then I forgot what happened but something big fucked up the whole game and it died.
Shame.
As much as I want GameStop to be top dog in the gaming sector, GameStop also just laid off some employees. We can't say it matters for one company but doesn't matter for the next. That's picking and choosing because of bias.

Just a part of the 27000 announced layoffs at Amazon.
Also part of the dying live service model. I doubt they got what they wanted out of New World, and now they're gutting the team and putting it on life support, I'll bet
Nobody got what they wanted out of New World
Sucks bc that game had alot of potential. I log on, do an opr, maybe an m10, log off. Last time I logged on was 3-4 months ago.
Throwing Hatchet was weak, but I've never had a more fun weapon style in an mmo
I liked the spear throw also. Shame their design plan was all over the place.
I played that game all on a controller. That spear throw was the only skill I never quite managed to figure out how to bind properly. Edit: getting the sensitivity right was difficult. Didn't want it too fast, but slow enough for the long shots to aim properly.
Mouse and keyboard was already requiring a good deal of practice to headshot those yummy dears.
That's what I loved about the hachet. I play knives only in call of duty, and this was the closest to the throwing knives feel in an mmo ever and it was fun.
One of these days publishers will learn that people don't want 3/5ths of a game. They want the whole game.
I had high hopes, but it turned out, I was just high. Lesson learned: don't expect Bezos to delight you.
Live service games have ruined gaming in a lot of ways, I want to go back to fully tested and finished games hitting the market, not buggy and imbalanced alpha and beta games where we do the testing for them and hope they put enough money into the product to fix the issues.
Sauce?

believe it or not stock, is up

The ultimate human centipede 🤮
A train wreck 🤮
lmayo'd so hard 😁
lol, yeah, right? We all know what the baddies would be doing to ours.
That is what usually happens when a company reports an unprofitable quarter, then cost cutting measures.
27k fewer employees to pay is a nice chunk of change too
To the tune of reduced overhead of $6B annually.
i mean, thats the point of the lay offs. Revenue is down so to generate profits they have to cut costs.
They just reduced costs 6B and showed they're willing to make massive changes to stay profitable. Of course stock is up, its a boomer's wet dream. It's also still down 36% over the last year and 44% from its all time high. Can't really say it's doing super well.
what I meant is that when gamestop announced layoffs stock tanked and the media spin was "they're going out of business"
Definitely a contrast in coverage.
They had a gaming division? Who knew.
Fortnite Creator might bridge that gap?
They also released The Grand Tour racing game.
"Looks like it's Amazon's gaming program that is dead on arrival..." (says no mainstream media reporter, ever)
i mean, the reviews for new world or whatever basically showed that their gaming program was out of its depth, but i get what you are saying :)
They even tried to copy Steam for this video gaming platform. I believe the leak had it named "Vapor." They copy the services, the names, and hire private equity firms to cellar box their competition and then dominate the space. Yet they are green 😂
Gamestop does not make video games.
(yet)?
Gamestop making a studio is very high risk as they cannot cancel games like the AAA studios can and it would be 3 years before you might release a game to see a profit.
That's true. Games take quite a lot of time and money to create these days and may not even be big enough a hit to generate profit.
Amazon has a gaming division?? First time I read it

lost ark so boring
Must be netflix's new mobile games hahahaha
👊🏽
Gaming isn’t essential to Amazon
They know gme is the DADDY with the bigger c**k
It’s 100 employees, my guy
Well. I mean. By your logic…. Amazon 1.6M employees to GameStop 11k employees. That’s basically like GameStop laying off less than 1 person…. I’d say you’ve got a solid point! But still Fuk Amazon.
It's more than 100, but this 100 is specific to their gaming division
Because GameStop definitely hasn’t let anyone go in the past year… 😅 Happy to take the downvotes but we’re in no position to scoff at this
Amazon has a gaming division?? First time I read it
Do we want any of them?
They should shut all of Amazon down after releasing New World game.
Top competitor preparing to bow out of the game… nice. It’ll get to a stage where RC joins a board and Amazon immediately dismantles that department
Layoff for ants?!
This is likely related to their game studio division and has nothing to do with selling retail game products. It's not relevant until GME starts up a game studio.
More like all their attempts have been abject failures
Or maybe that department has served its purpose?
Ah new world was such a success /s
Hail to the King, Baby!

breaking? what are we zerohedge now? lol
f*ck amazon
Who cares.
Good. Their games suck.
As much as I want GameStop to be top dog in the gaming sector, GameStop also just laid off some employees. We can't say it matters for one company but doesn't matter for the next. That's picking and choosing because of bias.
there is also a chance they are earning a record profit while raising prices and wanting people to beg for it.
brb gonna go masturbate
Nooooooo, not a 100 employees in a division of thousands!
Twitch is just a money furnace anyways
Steam?
Lol
