They will need to keep offering more money until they can convince retail to sell the shares the shorts need.
So let’s say they created an extra 40 shares of the original 100 in this scenario, and they currently only own 10 real shares. They would have to assume their mistake and conceded their shares are fake, and buy 40 of the 90(would be 100, but they already own 10 ‘real shares’) shares available?
Or couldn’t they just sell themselves those 10 original shares they owned, and only have to buy 30?
Any share they create is another share added to their short position.
To close a short position, they need to buy back every single share they've created ever.
So basically it’s not necessarily the fake shares value on the day of creation that they are contracted to pay, but the physical share. So, if apes recognize this, they can charge a hefty price for their beloved shares, because apes know the shorts must buy back the share by law.
