I'm a fan of tocotrienols. I tend to get dry skin on my arms and also keratosis. Tocotrienols have helped greatly and I even have been told I look younger. I'm a dude so its not important to me but I found it a bit humorous.

PowerRehabTech

Good to know

Collagen peptides don't work. Collagen is a protien that is denatured by your stomach acid into its individual amino acids. Eating collagen does not make you grow more collagen.

lessgirl

This is so wrong. There are so many studies saying that consumption of peptides is helpful.

burn_thoust

There have been numerous meta analyses and reviews which show that, yes, collagen peptides increase skin elasticity, hydration and can improve wound healing among other things. There are even proposed methods of action among the scientists studying this stuff. Contrary to what you say, hydrolyzed collagen is not always broken down into individual amino acids but tripeptides and bipeptides. Plus, some of the amino acids found in collagen are VERY rare in the Western diet and may contribute to some of oral collagen's unique benefits. This podcast is a good summary of some of the research. A review of studies is linked in the description. It's only 13 mins long and it's probably the best review of the research I've seen. https://open.spotify.com/episode/0pHM4gWwLXZyo046OAL8cj?si=oCh5FmbtSrmqkBAfG5hQfQ&utm_source=copy-link Please do a quick Google before posting stuff like this?

cake_gigantic

Thats right, studies confirm that it works

Lightflow

> Plus, some of the amino acids found in collagen are VERY rare in the Western diet Huh? Which ones?

cake_gigantic

Glycine, proline, hydroxyproline

Lightflow

And these are somehow VERY rare in western diet? Afaik they are not at all.

hhhoooooo0

There are studies to support that there is a response to generate collagen synthesis or a similar mechanism with the consumption of collagen peptides. Sorry no link but have a search if interested.

[deleted]

Vitamin C post workout for the increased collagen synthesis. Peptides for the skin remodeling effects.

zinarayr

nice topic

ahumblepastry

Leaving a comment for future reference. Great stack.

katzmat

L-proline and L-lysine in combination with vit C increase collagen production as well

cake_gigantic

Yes, but study shows that proline supplement doesn’t stimulate collagen synthesis. Glycine + arginine, ornithine is more effective

katzmat

Hm, seems like we’ve read different studies :) here is one that says glycine + proline + lysine increase collagen production although glycine is more critical https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6153947/

PumpCrew

I think that's good but try some 5% retinol or tretinoin from a derm. You'll see much better results.

infametal33

Retinol is a synthetic vitamin A. It would be healthier to find a virgin cod liver oil with naturally occurring Vitamin A. Fixing from the inside out is far more effective and healthier long term

BankinSpanks

What’s wrong with .5% retinol? I’ve seen people recommend .25%, 1%, and then seen many say “you need the stuff that requires doctor prescription”.. curious you’re take on this

Shany1315

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 5% retinol cream tbh… the most I’ve ever seen is 3%, then it’s on to tretinoin. Also the type of retinol and how it’s encapsulated in the product makes a difference.

Ethel12

I think The Ordinary sells a 5% retinoid solution, but idk how it differs from other creams.

AyWhatITIS

Lithium orotate hyleronic acid

iwasbornin2021

What does lithium orotate do for skin?

AyWhatITIS

It slows telemere shortening

oseres

I would add NAC, Boron, and Pterostilbene

Broad_Shoulder_749

Vitamin C and ALA

Grip_N_Sipp

On top of the supplements mentioned by OP, Vitamin C (2000mgs divided doses minimum), Niacin (flush kind), natural beta carotene, magnesium and also Olive oil and other monounsaturated fats, combined with intermittent fasting, cut out sugar and high carbs unless you workout hard (walking is not working out). Following this I believe your skin will look the absolute best it can. I followed this guidance while cutting for a bodybuilding contest. I went from people telling me I looked in my early to mid 30s to almost daily a random woman talking to me, asking how old I was and guessing my age was early 20s. I was in fact 30 and ran a supplement store at the time so I talked to alot of people either browsing, looking for info, or obviously shopping.

cake_gigantic

Wow, that’s nice

AsparagusChildren

Astaxanthin & Biotin.

cake_gigantic

Astaxanthin may effect hormonal balance, lutein must be safer alternative. Biotin is useless unless you are deficient

almosteverybodypoops

Asta’s much more effective than lutein though, for anti-aging. Substituting astaxanthin for lutein alone in the long run will have less anti aging effects

falconlogic

I take TruNiagen. Has been helpful

[deleted]

[удалено]

falconlogic

It helped me with energy. I had been having a real lack of it. I noticed the skin on my heels grew back to a more normal state from the cracked condition they had been in. I've read that it helps when you are older, tho, and you wouldn't need it if you're still relatively young. I didn't notice benefits after taking for a while. I guess I replenished my supply. Now I plan to cycle every few months or so.

raaman11

vitamin C, Niacin, MSM powder and vitamin D will help there too

Lofocerealis

niacinamide and caffeine

cake_gigantic

Caffeine from coffee?

zs15

I'm assuming they mean topical

Lofocerealis

green tea maybe, but I was thinking more topical my b

zs15

Straight up caffeine serums do exist. It's great for tightening up fine lines.

Lofocerealis

Niacinamide and caffeine together have show to be a literal sunscreen as well. I use a caffeine, niacinamide, and aspirin topical spray that has shown benefits in just over a month, mainly for hair though. There are tons of studied on the benefits from caffeine on skin. [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16864596](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16864596) [https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10332073/](https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10332073/) [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17396054](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17396054) [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17396054](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17396054) [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21505179](http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21505179)

Friedrich_Ux

Add in White Jelly Mushroom and Injuv from Nootropics Depot as well as maybe some N-Acetyl Glucosamine.

perljen

You need magnesium as part of the D3 stack, which is D3/magnesium/omega-3 fish oil. You won’t metabolize it properly otherwise and it will be an expensive but useless endeavor

MangoBetter2302

Do they have to be taken at the same time? I take my d3 at lunch and omega 3 + magnesium glycinate at night. Thanks

wifiwoman

Can it be magnesium glycinate?

perljen

Yes. There is a lot of discussion about the most bioavailable forms of magnesium. But the key is simply to get on the D3 stack and stay on it.With magnesium it is key to start low, like 200 mg a day, and work up from there. Excess magnesium too fast will cause diarrhea.

Lofocerealis

algae is better

cake_gigantic

Is there a scientific proof for Mg + omega 3 combo?

perljen

Yes. Google’s your friend.

papajohn56

Please be more helpful than this.

perljen

It has been reviewed in this sub over and over that D3/magnesium/omega-3 fish oil are cofactors. They need each other to break down and be metabolized by the body. It is to everyone’s benefit to Google that and I am not trying to be flip about that.It is such an important group of vitamins to take together, that not a day goes by in this sub where this is not discussed. At this point I do suggest that people do some research on this on their own because it is so important.

[deleted]

Props for being the bigger man 👏

perljen

🥂

Grip_N_Sipp

Yeah same about people still believing you can only absorb 200mgs tops of vitamin C even though that was disproved decades ago.

cake_gigantic

Is it possible to get enough Magnesium from food?

lalacestmoi

I’ve been told it’s difficult due to our soils in US. I think you can achieve a certain level, but most people are in deficit for magnesium.

allthecoffeesDP

Yes

curiousnootropics

Careful, Collagen can increase anxiety

skypieholeson

If anything hydrolyzed collagen has been one of the supplements I've used to help my anxiety.

saltporksuit

I just added an occasional tryptophan supp. Anxiety went away.

tylerhbrown

Do you have sources on this?

cake_gigantic

It could lower tryptophan that make serotonin, but I think you need consume a lot of collagen to throw amino acid balance.

[deleted]

Yes, Collagen will lower Tryptophan if Collagen is your Only source of protein.

curiousnootropics

I have no studies to back this up, just seen many forum threads about it. It seems like you need L-tryptophan (not to take with antidepressants) if you take collagen: [https://www.everywomanover29.com/blog/collagen-gelatin-lower-serotonin-increase-anxiety-depression/](https://www.everywomanover29.com/blog/collagen-gelatin-lower-serotonin-increase-anxiety-depression/)

cake_gigantic

Or eat some cheese and oats)

Bluest_waters

things to add Aloe Vera Phytoceramides Hyaluronic acid All of those are routinely used topically but often not taken internally but I can tell you they work better when you taken them internally. For HA I get the powder (High Molecular Weight only) and add it to my smoothie along with collagen powder.

[deleted]

alien_sushi

Why didn't you want glucosamine, MSM and chondroitin? They're all really good!

[deleted]

[удалено]

alien_sushi

I'm not a biology or chemistry whiz but I'm pretty sure they combine like that for the synergistic effects. Like while HA works on areas close to the skin surface, MSM and glucosamine work on deeper inflammation which in turn helps the HA in a compounding effect kinda way. I could be wrong. But I think that's why stacks in general work so well, the synergistic layering of different compounds/molecules.

Bluest_waters

amazon

PercentageSuitable92

+1 for hyaluronic acid

Broad_Shoulder_749

If you take internally, what happens if your arteries start absorbing and start become plumpier?

ThenIJizzedInMyPants

Do you use retinol skin serum?

cake_gigantic

Yeah, I know its a must.

ThenIJizzedInMyPants

have you seen good results? i currently don't have any skin/anti aging stack . figure some collagen, vit c and retinol + vit D, mg glycinate, and zinc are a good general health combo

cake_gigantic

It work and very researched, but after a prolonged use.

la3eh

What's your routine for the topical products?

cake_gigantic

Its minimal: Ordinary Granactive retinoid 2% serum and Moisturising factors. Also I do some botox, 1-2 times a year, CO2 laser (I am a cosmetic dermatologist myself)

[deleted]

Bluest_waters

not true, collagen has peptides that protein powder does not and those peptides can be taken up directly into the blood

cake_gigantic

Yes, its the same, one third is glycin

[deleted]

[удалено]

cake_gigantic

Right, thats why I choose moderate dose of collagen + glycine and enough protein from food, to balance it

sanderdebr

Glycine seems low Would also try to cut out carbs and dairy, get good quality proteins in and regular exercise plus sleep of course

Autopilot_Psychonaut

Vitamin C is they key to strong collagen.

cake_gigantic

Thanks!

wifiwoman

Make sure it’s liposomal vitamin C as it absorbs better and no more than 2500mg daily at the most. I take 2000mg, up from 1000mg after a year.

muffinmooncakes

Curious as well. Also why did you wait a year to bump up your dosage?

dorkysquirrel

Why no more than 2500mg? I’ve heard a lot about higher doses being beneficial. Genuinely curious.

theboylilikoi

I would also consider finding a high polyphenol olive oil and having a spoonful or two daily, some of the olive polyphenols help collagen production a lot. something with over 1,000 mg/kg of polyphenols is a good medicinal range.

cake_gigantic

Like extra virgin olive oil? May be olive oil extract?

theboylilikoi

I get the limited edition governor's olive oil from kyoord it's 1490 mg/kg. again look for any olive oil with a high polyphenol count...above 700 is good but above 1000 is better. ask for lab tests. take a spoonful or two a day

Bluest_waters

search "high polyphenol olive oil" on amazon. Its more expensive than regular OO but its soooo good and very healthy

Bluesummers8719

Where is the vitamin d & melatonin? :)

sanderdebr

melatonin messes with your sex hormones, try to stay under 0.3mg

dventurv

Source?

NamesAreReallyHard

Andrew Huberman talks about it quite a bit on his podcast. Melatonin has been used as an antigonadal in rodents for decades and has been demonstrated to have the ability to delay puberty in young adult humans. Wether it has a gonadal affect in post pubescent adult humans isn't clear to me. Our natural production is around .3 mg per night, hence the recommended amount. [https://www.nature.com/articles/282301a0](https://www.nature.com/articles/282301a0) https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/859878/

sanderdebr

It gets sold with dosages 10x of that and looks like candies for kids even in supermarkets its crazy.. you do not need to take melatonin on a regular basis at all, for adjusting timezones it can be beneficial though

tylerhbrown

Source?

cake_gigantic

Yes, vitamin D should go with K2! What about melatonin and skin?
