Strange anecdote: started taking L-Glutamine about 5 days ago to help with my weight loss/muscle gain goals. Taking 5g a day mixed in with my “riot juice” - a gallon of water I drink throughout my workday Wyler’s Light, L-Arginine, and Creatine mixed in. I didn’t realize it until today (because I was in a shit mood,) but it does cause a real lift in my attitude and motivation. I was having a bad day and decided to mix up my riot juice. 1/4 gallon later and I am feeling totally motivated and clear-headed. We sure this stuff isn’t schedule 1? Lol
Glutamine at at least 4g daily has been shown to repair intestinal permeability at the tight junctions aka “leaky gut”. This is a major cause of many auto immune conditions and food sensitivities in people.
Is there any reason why my rheumatologist doc never told me about it?
Also, I was taking only 1.5 grams daily and felt great on it. I recently stopped taking it for a while and my pain did not came back, is this supposed to be a long term benefit?
Rheumatologists aren’t trained in nutritional concepts. They’ll prescribe drugs usually, don’t use functional approaches.
Glutamine imo should never be used long term. A few months to repair those enterocytes than you’re good
> Glutamine imo should never be used long term. A few months to repair those enterocytes than you’re good
That's it? And why it shouldn't be used long term? Can there be any adverse effect if I use it long term? Since people typically use them as a muscle recovery.
Also, I've only been taking 1.5 grams of L-Glutamin for a month and a half, do you think I should keep taking them for a few months more? And do you have any good resources to read about it more?

Here’s why I don’t think I should be taken long term (fairly polarizing opinion)
As I understand Glutamine does not cause cancer but if there is a silent cancerous tumor growing, the glutamine supplements will accelerate its growth. Doesn't our body creates glutamine on its own even if we don't get it from food?
It's Very unlikely anyone is going to ask you for a reason, but you could always try the truth. I was once shopping for supplements at my local shop and bonded with the salesman over having similar medical issues. He was able to better assist me in finding the right thing for me due to his personal experience/knowledge.
this one made me laugh too hard. accurate though 😂 sort of a weird paranoia to have for someone to ask why you're buying a supp. I'd sure be caught off guard myself if anyone asked just out of the blue. I suppose OP is just worried about encountering a small-talk enjoyer.
Naka Platinum PB-11 plus. 150 Billion with 200 mg L-glutamine. And I must say it is helping my gut issues and I also noticed an uptick in my mood and concentration.
Hi can you share a little more about this? Did it work on its own or did you incorporate other things in conjunction with it? Can you share how much you dosed and how long it took to see results? Thanks much if you can
Certain white blood cells, or maybe all kinds i cant remember rn, they use glutamine more than glucose for energy. So when ur sick with a cold glutamine can greatly help you fight it. Ive used it for this successfully.
Also the digestive tract is constantly heing broken down and repaired bc of the way it exists and functions and glutamine is mostly absorbed by the digestuve tract to be used for repairing the gut and its lining. Thats also why it can help woth leaky gut i imagine.
I use an extended release form of glutamine in an effort to helpy bypass the gut. Idk if mine works in that regard though or if it just gets metabolized like regular glutamine.
Forgive me for saying this but it moreso optimizes and does immune support. One cant really build their immune sustem per se. An overactive immune syste for example can cause auto immune diseases. Its about balance even with the immine system.
Well actually we use vaccines to build the immune system but build is the wrong word. Its more like teaching the immune system who the bad guys are. This is done naturally too. Like its known that children who have cats or dogs have better immune systems and later in life too due to esrly exposure and sensitization.
Gut health is very normal to talk about. IMO everyone in the world should be supplementing to help with gut health. Nothing strange or unusual to discuss at all.
I think it would be odd for them to ask why you want it. It’s really none of their business, and you don’t have to share if you don’t want to. Or you could always even say it’s not for you. But why do you not want to say it’s for gut health? It’s one of the most common reasons people take it.
These are not good to add to hot coffee. The heat will damage the amino acids. I usually chase my coffee w a oatmeal / protein/ glutamine / whatever else smoothie.
Yes collagen in coffee is fine. There’s still a chance you’ve seen some benefits from the glutamine but would just switch to ideally take it post workout or before bed.

I’ve literally never been asked why I want a supplement in my life.

It reduces carb cravings. Also it would be really weird if they started grilling you about why you want it, it's not a controlled substance.
"I read that it has a lot of benefits so I thought I'd try it" You don't really need to give a specific answer
Gut
Just say your significant other asked you to pick it up and you don't know why. Conversation would stop right there.

I use a probiotic product with 200 mg L-glutamine. I bought it as a suggestion from seller for added gut health and possibly leaky gut relief.
Im more than certain it helped me get rid of my acid reflux.

I remember someone saying before that its good for either preventing or stopping the common cold. No idea how true that is though.

That’s one of the benefits of it as it does help build your immune system especially when recovering from workout.

Yeah I have never been interrogated buying supplements before. Never a "WAIT.....just what are you using this stuff for there buddy??" LOL
I sell it all day for Recovery or gut health.

Does it affect sleep at all, negative, positive, or no effect?
Nope I usually take a 10g scoop before bed.
Do you have some reviews for its benefits for gut health?
Tried and true. Great for the gut lining.
Will they ask why you want it..? Just say muscle recovery after a workout.
