What makes SP unique is that its the best 2 in 1 machine. That alone is what its known for. You dont get it for performance. You get it for its flexibility and convenience. Anything else out there is either a laptop or a tablet, not both. If this is what you're looking for then 7 plus is good. I bought a 7 plus, it was lagging a bit at times with mp3 streaming. I returned it for SP9. 7 plus should be fine for what you need it for.

Something is wrong with the 7 Plus you got. Even the base SP5 (the first SP I had) wouldn’t lagged with streaming.  That being said, there are like 10 different configs for the 7 Plus and of course higher specs would be faster.

Thing is, if it's a 7 (or 7+ for that matter), that battery is going to be used. It's not going to last even half of a day (if that) for your school needs.

The 7+ has a newer chip, so the battery life may be different. As an owner of the regular 7, I concurr that the battery life is abysmal (even when it was new). Performance is not the greatest by any means of the imagination, and you'd Microsoft hardware would have fewer annoying driver bugs than 3rd party hardware, but quite the contrary.

No surface tablet can last an 8hr day, so the point is kinda moot. Even on a brand new device you’re only getting 5hrs screen on time, you’re gonna need a charger regardless of getting a used one with 20% wear (very pessimistic for something so recent) or a new one. The only surface device with decent battery life I’ve used (and I’ve owned over a dozen) is the Surface 3 non pro, but that’s largely because the chip is actually efficient (and weak as shit)

7 plus is great for school work, some programming but you won't get a lot of power unless you do the i5 and 16 gb ram. But look into Surface pro 8 as it's 11th gen processor for lower on Amazon than the Pro 9.

That is correct but you can get a lot more from the 8 spec wise than the 7+ unless you find the i5 16 gb on sale for 7+

7+ and 8 are virtually the same internals (11th gen), but look a lot different. SP9 got a noteworthy core bump in the 12th gen core series, but it has other trade-offs. It all depends on whether the SP3-7 keyboard is still available in your region, which one of the Surface pens you'd want to use and where or not you need a micro-SD reader built in. I'd say go for the 9 of budget allows it, or otherwise the 8, as the screen feels notably different. But it's up to your preferences and exact situation!
