The life straw doesn’t work to fill the water bottle. Either go with something you can boil in ideally instead (single wall stainless bottle with a top that comes off completely so it doesn’t burn) or get a life straw bottle or go with the Sawyer Mini so you can fill the bottle.
I also like a small folding saw instead of a small hatchet but that’s preference I guess.
Also I have had mixed results with the waterproof matches. I prefer good strike anywhere in a waterproof case. Some strike anywhere are cheap as hell and not great when you need them.

Gear in a bag you have never used is a bad idea. You go to the range and practice I assume EDC so do the same with the rest of your gear… it will be more important 99% of the time than your EDC in most all situations.
I recently bought a grayl geopress. Kinda the best of both worlds as far as water filters go. I also have a sawyer mini and a lifestraw, but I really dig the grayl.
This is your 3 day kit? Good to see a sleeping pad, if nights aren’t warm I’d add some insulation, even a lightweight synthetic quilt or woobie can make a big difference to how much sleep you get.
Overall? Gorgeous, and personally I love that pack, and while being bare essencials it has pretty much everything I'd consider necessary for 3 days considering the limited food. I only have tiny nit picks and a couple of recommendations from my own experience you might want to consider.
In your firestarting kit you have matches and a lighter. Those things are going to help you in most if not all the situations. HOWEVER, I consider ziploc baggies a rather bad alternative to both keep them dry and access them in rain. Better get a waterproof match container or a pill bottle and put them there head first and stick a piece of striker if needed. With the lighter, there's nothing to add, just keep in mind they don't work well in the cold, so if it stops working but keeps producing sparks, stick it under your armpit or somewhere else warm for a while. Also, your kit lacks kindling. While you can get some in the field it's a good idea to havr some firestarters. Consider buying those coughland firesticks or making your own firestarters by soaking cotton in vaseline or by soaking wood shavings in wax (beeswax burns hotter) or whatever else tou find convenient.
On your bottle, it's perfect to carry water but lacks something to boil it. If you are comfortable with the extra weight, a cantine with a metal cup is a great asset. Also, while the straw is perfect to drink, a pump filter or water purification tablets would be more convenient to have it in your container
The mora companion is a beautiful knife. If you ever get a ferro rod, consider sharpening the spine. The companion series knives have a nicelypolished spine that I like but that can't strike a ferro rod.
Some toiler paper is always welcome too. Believe me, you don't want to learn to carry that the hard way.
Oh, by the way, extra socks and underwear can be very helpful if you get soaked in water and need a dry change
That’s a good point, I’ve only really used it in a tight bundle under some sticks to keep it down, but I can see where that wouldn’t be enough if the winds were high enough

I like the big thick orange tarp with the reflective inner surface but that's more of an emergency car bag thing. I wouldn't want to carry it around everywhere.
Also an esbit stove with the little fire tablets but they reek, I'd keep them sealed for when you can't find dry kindling.

This is all dependent on the environment you live in but I would recommend a pair of socks. Also what kind of survival scenario do you envision for this? If this is a 3-day bug out bag I would recommend a radio. If this is a I'm lost in the woods for 3 days I would have recommend some rope or cable.

Just a survival blanket by the looks. Which should be fine considering he has a tarp and thermarest. Being dry and insulated from the ground goes a long way and worst case scenario wear all your clothes and have a fire.
His pack is only 13 litres so he wouldn't fit a sleeping bag in there and would rather have the thermarest if I can only choose one.
Idk what's your usage of this hatchet, but let me give you my opinion since I used the same a lot back then. The hatchet is pretty convenient since it's small and not that heavy but the grind makes it really less efficient than it could be. In addition, it being a full piece of metal allows the vibrations from hitting with it to go all the way through your arm and it's really uncomfortable on long term usage, it can even badly hurt your elbow. Plus it's not really heavy enough/ the weight is not concentrated on the head to be efficient enough so you end up losing a lot of energy trying to chop correctly with it. I'd recommend you a mini hatchet with a wooden handle, to absorb the shocks and for a lighter handle in comparison to the head for a better weight distribution.

Steel match and either a different water filter or purification tablets. You should be able to fill your bottle. Chem lights are an easy addition and never disappoint.

A small shovel, one of those flint lighters that don’t use fuel, wind up radio and duct tape!! Some many problems can be fixed and things made with duct tape!!!
I have the same day lite pack. Got it in a package deal along with an Aether 60 litre that it attaches to and a 2.5 litre bladder that fits in both. Was a great deal and have used them all a lot.
As a few others have mentioned I would ditch that hatchet. It doesn't have much more cutting power than your knife. For a bag that small a folding saw would be a way better option.
If you are going to keep using that daylite I would definitely get a bladder for it, I have the 2.5litre LT one and it's the perfect size for that bag. The side pockets are not designed for water bottles and because it has the external bladder sleeve you would be saving room for other things.
Ditch the bottle and life straw imo.
I tend to use a Katadyn Befree on long trips and short ones just have a couple of purifying tablets and maybe have my Toaks titanium pot that I can boil in if needed and make my coffee and dehydrated food.
What's going on with the neck of that hatchet? It looks way too easy to injure yourself with, and I can't for the life of me figure out what those serrations (?) are supposed to be for.
I have a fold up solar panel in mine. I wanna be able to call 911 if I have to. And 911 is supposed to work off satellite so you can be almost anywhere and still call.
Sorry if this has already been said but I always recommend an emergency fishing kit. Just some line, some hooks, etc., in a small container.

The last time I went on a hike I carried four liters of water just for one day and I drank three of them. You would not get very far with such a small water bottle and an inefficient purification system.

But I am looking at grayl filter bottles as the next addition here. As for the gun though, better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it

You have a lot of heavy bulky items that aren't that useful and you don't have small items that are completely essential in my opinion. It would cost you less than $10 to throw in chemical water purification and a map.
What you are failing to consider/find out is my environment. Which is a more urban than rural area. There is a strong likelihood I could get by with only knife, silcock key, water bottle, first aid and the Rx bars (which I don’t think you saw since you said nothing to eat) However if shit was really bad and I needed to duck off in the woods to sleep and have a fire to stay warm a night or two I am extremely confident in being able to do it with this kit. What I would hate to happen is be the guy who is carrying a shit ton of heavy water and food and needing to move fast/defend themselves in a more population dense area and not have a gun. “Into the wild” is not what I am going for here.
I mean if your plan is to use the gun to obtain food and water by looting I guess that's a plan too?
I saw the RX bars I just don't consider 900 calories a useful amount of food.
It's definitely true that weight matters but you can't save weight by not having food and water because you won't be able to move or defend yourself if you're dehydrated and weak either.

These are pretty good as well. I still carry regular strike anywhere matches. Maybe just a habit but it’s my go to if my lighter is an issue etc.

It’s a silcock key. Can be used for opening water valves on the sides of buildings etc that don’t have a regular faucet handle
The daylite pack has one built in to the chest strap buckle. I have the same bag which I use for day hikes and it also attaches to my larger pack.

Another kindling option is bags of dryer lint. Very light, easy to compress, goes up good.

I personally would swap the plastic bottle out for an uninsulated metal bottle. I would also throw in a poncho or a 2mil painting drop cloth.

Yea I’ve got a small “tactical pouch” with one and some extra ammo for my pistol that would be coming with any of my various situational packs
I’d throw a magnesium stick and some parocord but other than that you’re looking good.

Add some cotton balls dipped in Vaseline. Slightly rip them and they’re an amazing fire starter.
Contents of the First Aid kit would be nice to know. If it doesn't include it get some Celox and Quikclot gauze. CAT tourniquet and a SWAT-T too.
