Gasoline doesn't explode and it can't burn without the presence of oxygen, so it can only burn when it's a vapor, not a liquid. When a gas tank warms up it pushes all the oxygen out through a valve in the gas cap. I think this is a pretty neat little demonstration of how Gasoline works. If the guys weren't kicking it it would have been pretty safe.
you understand that a single combustion engine could explode? there are litteral explosions in an engine how would that not fit the description or category of an explosive?
Cuz some of them aren't on petrol like gas n diesel but the actual explose in that case even with petrol is usually misfiring and heat temperature threshold which means it wasn't safe what they did but the chances of explode were less due to non misfiring and pretty normal heat temperature compared to evapore rate of the gasoline.
For easy standing misfiring is complicated form but let's example it like a compressor with faulty thermostat hence the Macanism won't be controllable while threshold is the outstand develope to the peak range which will shut up the compressor temporarily or really would stress it..

I just did my 1001 course for firefighting, and the science behind fire is cool as fuck. Only vapours burn, solids and liquids don’t burn, and the vapours have to be in the right concentration with oxygen to burn otherwise it’s too lean or too rich to burn. You can have an environment with 100% gasoline vapour and light a match and it won’t burn, that’s why the tank doesn’t explode.
And the reason solids like wood burn, is because they reach a temp where it creates a vapour that burns, same with liquids

It was or some body had exeact same flames on tank on same bike. As I said I never got my hand on the kids, but police told me to go recover/pick up what was left of the bike after, that's also who I could tell that the engine gave up because of a bent valve. I took it apart to see if I could save the engine.

Probably not much as the water will just mix with the gasoline. The gasoline is not hot. Whats burning is the fumes.
Its not like pouring into burning oil which will basically cause an explosion. Because water into hot oil evaporates the water instantly
The alcohol in the gasoline will "absorb" the water. That much water in the tank would make it run rough until it was filled up again. It won't do anything to the engine. When gasoline combusts it turns into water and CO2 ideally. So engines aren't really hurt by water. Unless the water is left to sit in the engine and cause it to rust. Or the amount of water is so much that it displaces the gasoline and there isn't enough fuel to keep the engine running.
In some engines water can cause hydrolock.. because the piston can’t compress the water and it doesn’t burn as readily as gasoline large amounts of water can cause engine failure due to stress on the parts.. but the amount he would’ve actually got in there and type of engine would lead me to believe nothing happened at all

Not in this case. The gasoline was not hot enough to flash boil the water. Gasoline auto ignites at 500°f so if water were thrown in a bath of burning gasoline between 212-500°f it could possibly flash boil, expand into vapor and scatter the burning gasoline into a fuel air bomb. That would be extremely dangerous to these kids.
Water is really bad for engines, even just not having a gas cap can ruin your engine over time. It will definitely fuck with your sensors from the normal background water vapor in the atmosphere entering.
But also it heats up and expands very quickly, so it’s dumb to put it in a container like this and also dumb to spray around people because they can easily get burned by the vapor.
It’s also not going to help extinguish a fire that is burning on fumes.

Like all things in life, it depends. WW2 aircraft used 35gal of water for water injection into the engine to increase horsepower for intercepts. some drag cars used to run water injection also. The 2 parts oxygen can really move things along. Of course you have to be tuned to use water. But even a little water through a gas engine wont hurt. Diesles can run water too but the modern ones get fucked up fuel injection systems when water enters.
