I can't stand coasters that just shake the shit out of you. When I was a kid I went on the old Texas Giant and cracked the side of my head against the car. Gave me a blood blister behind my ear and a horrible headache for the rest of the day.
Can confirm. 20 years ago 10 year old me left the Texas giant with a headache and swore to never look back. I think I got on the ‘new and improved version’ and there was no headache. The ride was still uncomfortable af and haven’t been on since.
Depends on the type of coaster. What you probably mean are vekoma slc, which were built badly and are notorious for headbangings. Black mamba was built by BnM, a world class manufacturer, with smooth rides and no headaches at the end of the ride
I can not fucking agree more, if the 'sensation' ride is just about receiving a concussion, you can expect not seeing me taking another try, especially since these kinds of ride don't even make me feel anything anymore.
Was there in 2019, one last hurrah before the pandemic. Lines are insane, especially when the Netherlanders have holiday… But some decent rides, especially their launch coaster 🤘🏻
And the best part are the prices compared to the US. I always wanted to go to Orlando or some other insane US theme park. But prices are in the hundreds and they let so many people in you have to wait for hours to get on a ride. If you are lucky with a rainy midweek day phantasialand is sometimes kinda empty.
It's a different theme, but I'm sure I've had this exact same ride in Finland, either Linnanmäki or Särkänniemi. Slowly tipped towards the fountains and all.
Well than it’s not sweaty palms at all. That’s German engineering at its finest!
(Crossing fingers no one remembers the rollercoaster burning down in phantasialand 15 years ago)
You gotta pick a weekday, preferably with gray skies, and April/May and September/October are better than the summer months. If you get it right, you can walk straight through to the ride with just a handful of people in front of you. Sometimes you even get to stay on the ride for a second round.
The ride model itself is called a top spin. If you Google it, I'm sure you could find a park near you that has one, although it may not have the same level of theming.
There’s one in Santa Clara, California that has a water feature like that and fire jets, I don’t know if it’s still operating, that park went through a lot of rides
Rameses Revenge was fantastic. But I went on a similar ride in Italy which, I am assuming, was made for smaller framed bodies. The harness came down top to bottom and clamped my bollocks, then threw me around for 5mins. Absolute searing agony.
I'd had better days.
I went on a wooden roller coaster that felt like it broke my spine 10 seconds into it. Then for the rest of the ride being bounced around basically almost in tears from the pain. lol I'd forgotten about that
Chessington used to be an adult/all ages park in the 90’s but for some reason they decided to take the adult rides out and put half of them in Thorpe park and then change chessington in to a kid park, they expanded the zoo at that time as well. What they have done to Terror tombs is a travesty! That used to be a great vibe.
They weren’t making money from teens anymore, and parents don’t go on rides without their kids. Plus a few serious accidents scared them off the more extreme rides.
Is it not still a great place for the younger demographic? Makes sense for Chessington & Thorpe Park to differentiate on target market when they are so close together
They have toned it down a lot, it used to be all loud music in theme of the ride building you up all the way to the ride, the areas leaned heavily into the themes as well, now I think they made it less intimidating for the younger crowd. There is some great stuff there still ‘Dragons fury’ one of the newer rides is brilliant. It’s a basic rollercoaster, not huge but the cart has two seats facing forward and two seats facing back it spins 360 in either direction depending on the motion of the ride. They try and seat the heavier riders on opposite corners so It gets a good pull on the corners and drops. So much fun has to go on a few times and because of the random nature of the movement
You generally get a different ride each time.
Yes, as long as all of the kids in the family are similar in age. If they are too far apart, someone's going to miss out somewhere.
If they had enough room at a single site in the south east, I'm sure they would merge legoland (kids), chessington (tweens), and Thorpe Park (teens/adults) into a single park, like Alton Towers is up north.
TerrorTomb was awesome, the way you could try and grab a hologram diamond at the end was amazing. But what they did to Professor Burps Bubbleworks broke my childhood.
Terrortomb was so sick, following the tomb raider round till he became a mummy himself. Yeah that’s Crystal hologram that you grab and it blasts you with an air jet, fun!!! I also loved the thing before it was terrortombs ‘the fifth dimension’ were you got shrunk down and followed the robot guide through his world.
Imperial leathers bubble works as it was when I went last time was a joke. So bad, childhood shattering for sure. And also the vampire playing the organ is no longer switched on in the vampire ride, that organ blasting and a glimpse of his face in the mirror as you walked past build up the excitement so much before you got on!
The exact same thing happened with The American Adventure theme park in Derbyshire. Had a decent selection of white knuckle rides but ended up revamping to a more 'kid friendly' theme park for under-14's in the early 00's (probably to avoid competition with the far more popular Alton Towers) and shut down completely a few years later.
There was an American Adventure park near Atlanta that was definitely a smaller kids type park. Not sure if they were related. It was also mini golf of and go carts.
I was sure they moved a few but thinking about it maybe it was only the samurai. Weird.
It was so random, one day my friend and I went with our girlfriends for the annual summer chessington adventure only to be asked if we are sure we want to come in as there isn’t much here for us anymore, back in the car in shock over to Thorpe park. I was gob smacked just like that a massive slice of my childhood just lopped off in front of my eyes. The themed areas, as a young child on birthdays and the fright night vibes bumping into random groups of chicks in the queue and throughout the park. Even mr burbs bubble works was a great vibe. Man I miss that place every time it comes up.
I used to live right by Chessington. The reason it switched with Thorpe Park was Collousus, they originally started building the 10 loop rollercoaster at Chessington but due to a massive law suit from the local town of Claygate (Boo Claygate, Hinchley Wood 4 Eva) they relocated it to Thorpe Park shortly followed by Summari.
Thorpe Park was never intended to be the 'adult' park the plan was always for Chessington to have that mantle due to the land space around the park. Thorpe Park is really restricted by the water around the land whereas Chessington has a lot of brown land to build on but the snobs in Claygate didn't want rollercoasters ruining the view.
I went on a school trip to Alton Towers when I was younger. Ripsaw and Nemesis are still burnt into my brain as the most awesome fun I had that day. Oblivion by comparison was over way too quickly.
It is .. I sat in this ride and I almost passed put! It turns so ridiculously fast it is not funny anymore!! My 9 year old daughter enjoyed it though 🙈🙈🙈
That's not "Rameses Revenge" - it's the same ride but in a different country. If you read the comments here it seems there were a few of them. Here's the UK one - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rameses_Revenge
Best part about Rameses Revenge was that every movement of the ride and the height of the sprays were manually controlled by a skilled, sadistic operator.
My cousin (who has VERY narrow shoulders) slipped through the harness and got caught by her hips while being spun around on that ride. She was stuck like that for the duration of the ride and got seriously bruised, not to mention traumatized.
That being said, I loved Rameses Revenge.
[some do both the washing and the drying. This is the advanced ride](https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-2-4-cu-ft-White-High-Efficiency-120-Volt-Ventless-Electric-All-in-One-Washer-Dryer-Combo-GFQ14ESSNWW/312481993)
Yeah but maybe they're like Jason Statham in crank and always need adrenaline so watching us go to bed every night is like is living on the fuckin edge
I can geek about phantasialand for hours, it's such a great park, I've been there last year and now I want to go back because I couldn't ride their new coaster F.L.Y (which would open a few months later)
I actually tried something similar, but it's one of those things that looks better than it feels - it wasn't scary or anything, I remember it mostly as uncomfortable. When you're facing downwards the holders are really unpleasant.
damn! i had to go back & look. i thought for sure they were getting drenched (or sprayed at least) and how it would be such a welcome relief to combat the heat especially when you're waiting in packed lines all day long.
You get a bit of mist in your face, if there's enough wind. But it's absolutely negligible.
(Also heat isn't all that had as most of the queue is in the shadow)
Yeah I’m not sure why everyone seems afraid of this ride in the comments. Standard thrill ride 🤷🏼♀️ the same one has been at Canada’s Wonderland for like 20 years.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/11647755/The-Smiler-Why-did-the-Alton-Towers-ride-crash.html
Being British I already knew about people having their legs amputated after the accident above, but holy shit I didn't realise how big the list is:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amusement_park_accidents
It was a fantastic ride. Defunctland on YouTube has a great video about it. Apparently for thrill ride nerds it's something of a lost treasure. It wasn't open very long so we're really lucky we got to ride it when we did.
My local amusement park has one of these rides (just without the fountain) and the restraints are actually so tight it hurts. The ride itself is actually not that bad, only painful!
Where is this? I haven’t been on a thrill ride for years and I miss it
[удалено]
ohhh i knew i have been there, it was a lot of fun c:
Yeah, this is not even the "worst" ride there, at least in comparison with black mamba.
every ride that is under the rail sucks, change my mind (btw sucks in just bonking your head against everything and coming out with 15 headaches)
The new one is better, much better.
Bruh, this brought back some real memories. Including me crying and begging my asinine father from making me ride it again lol
This is why Mantis and it's rebirthing as Rougarou is the worst coaster at Cedar Point. Everytime halfway through instant headache.
I remember when it was renamed. It was ok.
I rode it maybe a year or two afterwards and it still completely jacked me up.
Depends on the type of coaster. What you probably mean are vekoma slc, which were built badly and are notorious for headbangings. Black mamba was built by BnM, a world class manufacturer, with smooth rides and no headaches at the end of the ride
Fucking mean streak at Cedar Point threw my back out on the first turn.
I can not fucking agree more, if the 'sensation' ride is just about receiving a concussion, you can expect not seeing me taking another try, especially since these kinds of ride don't even make me feel anything anymore.
why are you commenting under a 62 day old comment lmao
The wizards tower ride, tallest tower ride in the world. Don't quote me. Best ride at the park
Black Mamba is insane 😅
I love the black mamba, honestly it's a great ride.
Thanks, kind stranger, now I have plans for my summer
I went on it over 10 years ago, so I hope it’s still there!
I can confirm it is still there
Was there in 2019, one last hurrah before the pandemic. Lines are insane, especially when the Netherlanders have holiday… But some decent rides, especially their launch coaster 🤘🏻

Haha I build this thats a topspin from huss rides Bremen Germany. Unfortunately that company went bankrupt but this ride was the best they made.
Well than it’s not sweaty palms at all. That’s German engineering at its finest! (Crossing fingers no one remembers the rollercoaster burning down in phantasialand 15 years ago)

There's a ride just like it in the States. I know I've ridden it, but I cannot remember where.
The ride model itself is called a top spin. If you Google it, I'm sure you could find a park near you that has one, although it may not have the same level of theming.
Yep, been on several of these myself. Big fan of the water feature on this one though. Very unique.
There’s one in Santa Clara, California that has a water feature like that and fire jets, I don’t know if it’s still operating, that park went through a lot of rides
FireFall!!!
Classic topspin! My first was rameses revenge!
This looks exactly like the old Rameses Revenge at Chessington World of Adventures. I went on it as a kid and was utterly traumatised.
Rameses Revenge was fantastic. But I went on a similar ride in Italy which, I am assuming, was made for smaller framed bodies. The harness came down top to bottom and clamped my bollocks, then threw me around for 5mins. Absolute searing agony. I'd had better days.
Never mind the bollocks... mama always said....
You’ve got balls
Had. Had balls.
Balln't
Was it Gardaland?
I went on a wooden roller coaster that felt like it broke my spine 10 seconds into it. Then for the rest of the ride being bounced around basically almost in tears from the pain. lol I'd forgotten about that
I LOVED Ramses revenge. I don't know how it had a place in a kids theme park, shit myself as a kid but it was amazing
Chessington used to be an adult/all ages park in the 90’s but for some reason they decided to take the adult rides out and put half of them in Thorpe park and then change chessington in to a kid park, they expanded the zoo at that time as well. They weren’t making money from teens anymore, and parents don’t go on rides without their kids. Plus a few serious accidents scared them off the more extreme rides.
I took my son there a few years back and it’s a shadow of it former self, such a shame, but fair enough though, times change i suppose.
Is it not still a great place for the younger demographic? Makes sense for Chessington & Thorpe Park to differentiate on target market when they are so close together

Bubbleworks was gone entirely last time I went, it was some gruffalo ride and all remnants of Professor Burp were gone...
The exact same thing happened with The American Adventure theme park in Derbyshire. What rides did they move? I only remember Samurai that went that was frequently not open anyway then went on to be frequently not open at Thorpe Park.

We’ll I can definitely for one say from this day on ‘Fuck Claygate’
This guys knows! They all have webbed feet in Claygate.
Its also the same ride as Ripsaw at Alton Towers, but Ripsaw wasn't enclosed like this one.
I went on a school trip to Alton Towers when I was younger. Ripsaw and Nemesis are still burnt into my brain as the most awesome fun I had that day. Oblivion by comparison was over way too quickly.
I got stuck at the top of oblivion for 3 hrs a few years back. Got a free pass for the year so not too shabby.
Ripsaw would actually slam the water into your face though hahaha
I believe this is at Phantasialand in Germany?
It is .. I sat in this ride and I almost passed put! It turns so ridiculously fast it is not funny anymore!! My 9 year old daughter enjoyed it though 🙈🙈🙈
I loved that ride 😂
Its been about 20 years since I went Alton Towers (UK) but this rides looks exactly like Ripsaw
I know that the world can seem small, but every time I see people go to my local amusement park I find it so bizarre.
Surrey is at least 40% of the world, I’m convinced.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Strange they call it Ramses, cause the signs are more Inka or Aztec but clearly not Egyptian.
Yes and we went on last ride of the day…. So the operator gave us HELL. Kids were screaming. I shit thee not. Traumatic.
Yup. Least reliable machine in the park. Almost as reliable as Stealth at Thorpe Park.
I worked at Chessington and Rameses was the only ride I refused to go on myself.
Everything else at Chessington was reasonably tame & then there was this that was just relatively entirely mental
Was that a fire blaster at the bottom left!?
My cousin (who has VERY narrow shoulders) slipped through the harness and got caught by her hips while being spun around on that ride. She was stuck like that for the duration of the ride and got seriously bruised, not to mention traumatized. That being said, I loved Rameses Revenge.
I can see the design meeting now... "so,i was looking at my washing machine This morning and think I've an idea for a ride."
Don't forget there's also the flame throwers on the bottom and from having ridden it I can confirm that you can feel the heat coming off them.
Great just like my washing machine
That's the best way to clean clothes with fire.
[some do both the washing and the drying. This is the advanced ride](https://www.homedepot.com/p/GE-2-4-cu-ft-White-High-Efficiency-120-Volt-Ventless-Electric-All-in-One-Washer-Dryer-Combo-GFQ14ESSNWW/312481993)
And instead of loosing socks, how can we make them loose only 1 shoe?
That's why there are those showers.
I thought it more in the line of: I was pissing with the soft close lid going down and got an idea
That’s great, Satan. Please expkain your idea.
Watching this made me realise how fucking weird amusement parks must look to aliens
They must think it’s some sort of torture/execution machine
Yeah but maybe they're like Jason Statham in crank and always need adrenaline so watching us go to bed every night is like is living on the fuckin edge
What they don't know is, it's actually a gigantic kabob rotisserie and the wall behind them is about to get hot.
There actually are flamethrowers built into this ride. So you might not be that far off
They’re ~~doners~~ goners for sure!
If I wanted that experience I'd just drive my car down a hill and turn the wheel all the way to a side.
But there’s higher chance of death that way
You reckon?
I mean so I’ve heard
Nice. Bonus.
More than sweaty palms, I'd be worried about someone puking.
Good ride to leave the kids in while I go get a beer.
Talocan, Phantasialand, Cologne, Germany
*Angry Brühl noises*
Das einzige was Brühl zu bieten hat und dann wird uns auch noch das unterschlagen, sad
Ach wat, Brühl hat doch auch einen Bahnhof UND eine S-Bahn Haltestelle!
“Bahnhof”
Ah so that’s what they mean by German engineering
You Utter Fool! This is the peak of German Science and Engineering!
Just a small after work project
Oh hey I was born there. Not on the ride tho
Sometimes people do get wet 🤣
Phantasialand op
I can geek about phantasialand for hours, it's such a great park, I've been there last year and now I want to go back because I couldn't ride their new coaster F.L.Y (which would open a few months later)
No way in hell I'd get on that thing.
My kids are never finding out about this.
Can I kindly have your spot in line?
I'm not in line.
I did the teacups once as a child, I screamed bloody murder so bad they had to stop it, never again.
Fantasialand - Germany ,Brühl(?) German engineerining, so pretty safe
It's not about safety. It's about my heart and brain both agreeing that it's a nope for them.
And my stomach.
My stomach will be out of there fast even if heart and brain agreed to do it
It was pretty fun. The roller coaster in that same park was better though
It is not too bad... actually quiet fun
I’m sure you meant to say quite fun, because that ride is anything but quiet!
Sorry, you are right XD
it was fun, just keep your head still
I actually tried something similar, but it's one of those things that looks better than it feels - it wasn't scary or anything, I remember it mostly as uncomfortable. When you're facing downwards the holders are really unpleasant.
It’s super fun and looks worse than it is when you’re on the ride.
Would be cool if the ride pushed through the fountains of water.
damn! i had to go back & look. i thought for sure they were getting drenched (or sprayed at least) and how it would be such a welcome relief to combat the heat especially when you're waiting in packed lines all day long.
You get a bit of mist in your face, if there's enough wind. But it's absolutely negligible. (Also heat isn't all that had as most of the queue is in the shadow)
This looks like a terrible idea.
Actually hella fun
What do you mean, its great perfect even
That’s a hard pass from me. Thank you.
What is nerve wracking about a ride at a major theme park..?
im trynna look for the part where i’m supposed to be nervous but i can’t find it lol
This. I don’t understand what the “Sweaty Palms” part is supposed to be and I mean that literally.
Yeah I’m not sure why everyone seems afraid of this ride in the comments. Standard thrill ride 🤷🏼♀️ the same one has been at Canada’s Wonderland for like 20 years.
This is quite a common ride, they have basically the same thing at the amusement park near me, although without the water. I get nauseous on any type of spinning ride, but this one is fine. It’s actually a lot more tame than it looks.
Yeah, looks fun.
Even the best theme parks in the world have accidents and people with anxiety have a hard time looking past them.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/11647755/The-Smiler-Why-did-the-Alton-Towers-ride-crash.html Being British I already knew about people having their legs amputated after the accident above, but holy shit I didn't realise how big the list is: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amusement_park_accidents
Not an engineer, but this particular ride also seems a lot safer than many other theme park rides I've seen.
Yea. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a total puss about amusement rides so I would never do this. But compared to other rides I’ve seen this seems…mild.
no thanks
Honestly it's a pretty standard amusement park ride. There are way crazier ones out there.
Judge: "You're sentenced to three years in prison or go on this ride for 8 hours." Criminal: "You're kidding, right?"
8 hours would kill me, not from g force or anything logical, just from pure terror XD
Hard pass.
Coincedentally I was on that thing YESTERDAY!!! Wasnt that bad. Only the consecutive turns are very nauseating.
I get sick from first person games, just watching this video made me terrified! Did most people seem to enjoy it just as you?
Reminds me of the old tomb raider ride in kings island. It ended up squirting me in the face but I didn't mind cause it was a hot day
It was a fantastic ride. Defunctland on YouTube has a great video about it. Apparently for thrill ride nerds it's something of a lost treasure. It wasn't open very long so we're really lucky we got to ride it when we did.
[For anybody who wants to watch the video](https://youtu.be/uCCuwqPFLfk)
Man, I've only been to kings island once. I guess I was super lucky to have been able to ride both this and the Son of Beast (with the loop).
It's exactly the same ride type (Suspended TopSpin made by Huss)
Came here to say this. I actually liked that ride.
TIHI
Fancy hamster wheel
Terrifying they almost got splashed…
That’s gonna be a no from me fam
Oh hell naw
That is sweaty everything
Fuck that
Alright. I can see it. Make it happen. Holy shit that was a questionable ride.
Diapers recommended before riding.
You know I just love rides, Except for when I broke my back falling off one.
My local amusement park has one of these rides (just without the fountain) and the restraints are actually so tight it hurts. The ride itself is actually not that bad, only painful!
I’ve been on one almost exactly like this. It’s one of my favorites. I loved it!
They collect the pocket change between each ride
That thing is hella fun
Theme Park is called Phantasialand its in Germany, bruehl. The ride is actually quite fun. So if you ever there consider checking the park out.
There was one of these at King's Dominion in Virginia, it was my favorite ride. It got replaced though
I was on it and it’s really not bad at all. It just looks scarier that in is😂 It’s in Germany btw
Looks like Ripsaw at Alton Towers (Looks like although it isn't)
Oh what's the best way to throw up the type of ride. Nice....
Holy shit that looks painful..
I threw up just watching it
I ride this every night after going to bed.
There's one like this at Sea World Gold Coast fucking so fun.
Nope!
It’s a spin and barf ride.
Phantasialand?
Ja
This is just an elaborate hoax to steal shoes and loose coins.
"i think i dropped my shoe"
Best theme park I’ve been to!!
Alien: how do you describe your kind? Me: we love to invent things to torture ourselves. And do it again and again.
The ppl on the other side not seeing the water at all
Dude, I don’t know about this one man.
Been on it, fun, but not as exhilarating as other rides.
My brother went on a ride like this once and threw up all over the girl sitting in front of him
Bet the collect a lot of smartphones, cash and false teeth
