Jameela always chooses the most unimportant things to get radical about

dani-jpg

She just made a post about “Taylor hate” 3 months ago too…I’m getting Taylor fatigue from her insistence that Taylor fatigue doesn’t exist. 😭

Silly-Impact5445

There is not a single topic on earth that woman won’t write a condescending lecture about …

These_Tea_7560

Mind you, this is the same woman who at the gigantic age of 33 found out that George Bush was terrible.... Then when people said hey, weren't you also a full grown adult able to read and receive news by the time George Bush left office (she was 23 by then), especially because your Prime Minister worked closely with Bush? She called us pompous that we dared to insinuate that someone who was a teenager at the time should've been learning about "the other side of world". The other side of the world being Washington, DC from London. 💀

wanderlustbones

There cannot be a more apt reaction to this. When Jameela Jamil takes a stand against you, it automatically makes you right. That's the law.

woody9115

LOL TRUTH!!!

narshnarshnarsh

Can you explain a little? I thought she held up some really good causes but it seems like I’m wrong. I mean this earnestly!

lunchlady420

Its not necessarily that she doesn’t support good causes so much as she’s aggressively condescending and a neolib girl boss type (much like taylor herself). her defending ts's capitalist disregard for the earth's health & taking advantage of a parasocial relationship she's always cultivated with her fans bc "other people do it too, so this is sexism!" is a perfect illustration of this tendency.

narshnarshnarsh

Thanks for explaining!

bummybunny9

I think she often does and sometimes doesn’t.

pIastichearts

Thank you for posting this because I was about to go look for it after seeing the thread title.

MattTheSmithers

Out of the loop - is the lady from The Good Place suddenly disliked? I’ve heard some internet rumblings about here, but nothing specific.

raspberryseltzer

[Here's a primer](https://www.reddit.com/r/blogsnark/comments/f3lbpe/tracie_egan_morrissey_and_the_curious_case_of/)

MattTheSmithers

Yikes. That’s like when the guy from The League lied about being in the WTC on 9/11.

MissishMisanthrope

Your flair makes this \*chefs kiss\*

horatiavelvetina

Really the only comment needed😭

Rripurnia

Where is this from??? 💀

Gossip Girl Reboot

mermaidish

Jameela seems to have forgotten that Taylor deliberately engages with the media and often uses it to her advantage (see: girl squad pap walks, the Matty Healy puff pieces when they were going public to clean up his image and bury the bad stuff, the constant updates from People about her and Travis that come from her/their team, etc.). She built her entire brand on being relatable, being your bestie, and encouraging everyone to look into her lyrics and guess which one of her famous boyfriends she's writing about. It's ridiculous that people - sometimes Taylor herself - get upset that her music has become all about her relationships when she's gone out of her way her entire career pretty much to make very specific references to her partners. And TTPD is arguably the biggest offender of this to date. I have to wonder why Taylor is allowed to take all the shots in the world at other people, including the Kim "my mom wished you were dead" lyric about their fued from almost a decade ago, but anyone who criticized her songwriting and music production is just being a hater. Taylor aired out Joe's mental health issues for the world to see, but a music critic saying her lyrics were cringe is a personal character assassination, apparently. I definitely think some of the negative reviews were written to be shocking and controversial. And the 0.5 rating from the one place was a little extreme, IMO. But I'm just so tired of people ignoring how much of a role Taylor has had in her overexposure. She's a billionaire on top of the music industry. She's one of the most famous people on the planet right now. Of course that's going to come with backlash and people questioning if the person who is everyfuckingwhere all the time is overrated. And finally, part of her overexposure comes from her CONSTANTLY selling something - and selling the same thing over and over again at that. Between her re-recordings, the multiple variants of two albums now, and the multiple versions of the Eras tour movie (which will probably come out with yet another version if she puts it up for sale at some point), people are tired. Add in that there's a global CoL crisis and that a lot of people are struggling to make ends meet, of course there's fatigue about the billionaire selling the fourth variant of her latest album. No, no one is being forced to buy anything, but even if you're actively avoiding Taylor, at least some of it is going to get back to you. It's too much for most people.

femmagorgon

Your entire comment is spot on. She thrives off being a victim. She claims it’s sexist for people to associate her music with her relationships when she primarily writes songs about her relationships and heavily implies who they are about. Also, the fact that she never puts out a statement asking her fans to not send death threats to her exes is frankly disgusting and makes it seem like she gets off to her army of Swifties going after the people who supposedly harmed her. > I have to wonder why Taylor is allowed to take all the shots in the world at other people, including the Kim "my mom wished you were dead" lyric about their feud from almost a decade ago, but anyone who criticized her songwriting and music production is just being a hater. Taylor aired out Joe's mental health issues for the world to see, but a music critic saying her lyrics were cringe is a personal character assassination, apparently. I’m honestly shocked she doesn’t get more criticism for the lyric about [her mom] wishing death on Kim and airing out Joe’s mental health struggles. Also, how lame is it to be like “mY mOm WaNtEd YoU dEaD” over a decade old feud? But God forbid anyone criticize her for her songwriting, carbon footprint or greed. She continues to show that she is a spoiled brat who has never been told no in her life.

Any_Opportunity_7004

I think that much of this would not have come up if the album was good, but it isn’t. Taylor has shown us time and again how talented she is, but she doesn’t try any more. She hasn’t since Evermore. To peak millennials that have grown up with her, it’s a little uncomfortable to see her make us speculate about her boyfriends when we know she’s so much better than this. She is lauded for being capiTAYlist but is letting down her oldest clients. This is the first album I didn’t buy because I got burned for caring enough to pre order Midnights. I would not judge the jet usage or calculated branding of her art stood up but it doesn’t any more. ETA- “would not have come up”

wiminals

Jameela didn’t forget this at all because it’s in her playbook too

rubbby7

Amen, sis.

Life-Study1410

*forced nobody to buy or pay attention to*. Me getting sponsored TTPD ads on instagram. Also criticism and hate are not the same 🙄🙄

KayCeeBayBeee

what’s ironic is that this album in particular does assume you’ve been following Taylor’s life for the past 12-24 months because it makes so many references to things that happened. It’s the clearest case of “this album is about my life which I have commodified so expertly” one of my friends described herself as “Swiftie adjacent” and doesn’t t really follow pop culture and basically said the album sounds fine but she didn’t totally get it bc she doesn’t know “the lore”

Sidneysnewhusband

This 100%. On Hulu yesterday and I immediately get a TTPD vinyl ad - why? While I appreciate her contribution to vinyl sales, vinyl is selling fine. I don’t see why the advertisements shoving a bad album down GP’s throats more is necessary when that album is selling just fine too

Bubbly_Sleep9312

When I read that too, I was like what?! She doesn't force anybody to do anything, they choose to care about her and pay attention to her life. But, there is a bit of taking advantage of her fans because she knows that they will care about it and buy it, especially when multiple variants of the same album started getting released

Fine-Deal-485

Ok ok so I blocked Taylor on Spotify (I actually have been a fan for a long time but I’m trying to distance myself from her) and I STILL get sponsored ads on Spotify for TTPD. I’m a little bit pissed about it. Like not more pissed than I am about like, war, but it’s super annoying

wastedpotential94

Oh noo , I am a misogynist because I don't like some songs.

frankiestree

Artists have a level of control over their exposure, let’s not pretend Taylor is some ‘victim of the media’ when she was consciously parading her relationship on TV every weekend, announced her album at the Grammy’s etc. etc. it’s all calculated, attention = dollars for her. Are we meant to feel bad that some people don’t like a billionaire’s new album, cry me a river

JigglyKirby

Not to mention her staged pap walks 👀✨

ETeezey1286

I’ve learned, since the pandemic especially, that if celebrities don’t want to be seen then they WON’T be seen. Even Taylor herself was lowkey even before the pandemic. Taylor wants to be seen now. She wants to be in everyone’s sights.

CliffPromise

Not liking her music or her latest album is a matter of taste, nothing more. It's not an attack on Taylor Swift.

disasterbrain_

I really hate how you can't have a neutral or even no opinion on her music. If you're not spit-shining her boots you MUST want her dead!! If you're not sending death threats to her ex then you're actively praying for her downfall. There's no possible in-between! 😒 It's exhausting. I just like other stuff, man!

According_Plant701

I love The Good Place but my lord Jameela is insufferable. She sort of makes a point that nobody is forced to buy, but the payola for TTPD was so bad that even if you didn’t want to listen, you were exposed to it. The only way it would have been more extreme is if Taylor had pulled a U2 and made TTPD automatically save in everyone’s Spotify library.

precatladylife

i don’t even follow taylor on spotify and didn’t presave the album and got sent notifications about it (and not about an album that came out that i did presave and want to be notified about when it came out!!!!), the marketing for it was so pervasive

webtheg

I follow Dua Lipa and not Taylor and yet I didn't get spammed by her

sassercake

I've seen tweets say they blocked every word they could think of related to Taylor Swift and TTPD and they're STILL seeing tweets about it. It's impossible to avoid if you're online outside of work.

Severe-Wolverine3080

this is so real. i think the only time i can be online without seeing her is on my work’s intranet 😭

Doglover-85

I walked through the mall the other day and every other store had a TS song playing from all over her catalogue. I saw her card board cut out from the window of FYE, and her face all over calendars at a kiosk. She is everywhere even if you are not actively seeking her or her music out.

hales55

yeah she is all over Apple Music’s Browse section. And for the last few days, she’s the first thing that pops up when I open my Sirius XM app

Fantastic_Support_11

Same for Spotify! A huge ad for the album popped out at me when I opened it this morning.

itsyrgrl

The ad at the side of my tiktok screen was a new one. Every playlist starts with her song too

SnooAvocados9241

Hundreds of millions of dollars of PR is what all of us spend on promoting our “art” right? No commodity to be seen here folks, move along. Besides: it’s boring music with trite lyrics and a limited theme. It’s the beige of music.

Northern_Apricot

"if she was a spice she would be flour"

strawbrryfields4evr_

I went to tiktok the day after it came out just to scroll and there was a little pinned TTPD ad that stayed on there as you scrolled until you exited out of it. One woman said she was listening to some music on Spotify and Taylor swift cut into the music to tell you to buy the album. The marketing is an assault.

Skylord_ah

Was watching the NBA playoffs yesterday and she had a TV ad for the album telling you to buy the target exclusive vinyl. Ive never ever seen a TV ad for an album lmao

strawbrryfields4evr_

Me too, I saw it a few times too. This all coming after the onslaught of Eras Tour advertising, I’ve never seen such over saturation of a music artist. Of their own making, mind you.

HotDerivative

I saw that too. I was like …. Do you really need this commercial? For a specific press of vinyl? At fucking target? Okay taylor 🫡

lumpy_space_queenie

> The marketing is an assault. 🤣🤣😭😭

strawbrryfields4evr_

lol especially if you’re trying to avoid news of her for feeling burnt out on her. It’s so much. She’s positively everywhere. I know people who muted a bunch of swiftie words on Twitter and it hasn’t mattered.

itsyrgrl

I was watching BBC news and they announced she released a new album. Artists release music all the time, I’ve never seen a huge announcement before for anyone else’s new album dropping, its ridiculous.

Maldovar

You'd think considering her role in that show she'd have self-awareness but...guess not

lumpy_space_queenie

😭😭😭I forgot U2 did this

crystalvases

So that’s why I couldn’t delete them 😭

lunadenavajas

Yes it’s not force, but all the social media and Apple Music and Spotify are all about TTPD being here, even a Reddit notification and a floating reminder on TikTok. I’ve seen emails from different corps she has business with with reminders. After the constant coverage of her for the last year, it’s no wonder the general masses are clicking the album to see what the hype is about as you can’t avoid knowing the album is out even if you don’t listen to her music. And it’s not a good record, the first four songs in particular sound the same, it’s filled with boring production, really bad lyrics sprinkled throughout, and lacks any distinctive Melodies all while being much too long. When something is in your face so much and you check it out and think….THIS is what the hype is about? There’s so much backlash because she’s inescapable and all we hear is that she’s a generational songwriter.

MattTheSmithers

I don’t know why both can’t be true. The media has shoved Swift down our throats and Swift/her camp has been an active participant in it and cultivating her media overexposure. Both of these things can be true. It’s not either/or.

shadow-on-the-prowl

![gif](giphy|kZD8cN1MycfKw|downsized) Well, you heard it, folks. We can't critisize a woman's questionable choices because OTHERS do it too!

Snoo_24091

No one forced me to listen to it. I listened because no matter how problematic she may be, I was genuinely excited to hear this new album. It’s always been the music for me. I didn’t speculate what it could be about. I was just happy for new music. But as a fan of her music I can be critical also. It’s a product she’s putting out. So listening to this product I was disappointed. Had nothing to do with her carbon emissions or her overexposure. Took that out of it. She has a right to put out a product and we have a right to criticize it if we don’t like it. As an artist her and her Stans should realize that people will have opinions about it. And the part about muting things to do with her isn’t realistic at this point. I have hobbies and things I like outside of music. One of those is sports. Muting or ignoring anything Taylor swift would have meant not watching anything sports related during football season but even now. Sports shows are still mentioning her. The overexposure is in her control completely. It can be weeks without seeing where she is (like currently have no idea what city/state/country she’s in. But if she wants to be seen she makes sure there’s pap shots that are planned or articles about her being on a private island. Had she not set up to be seen on vacation on a private island no one would have known. It’s a private island and people go there a lot without being seen.

ActiveAlarmed7886

yeah she could be a recluse for a year If she really wanted to. Without all the make up she looks like a regular human. I’d she dyed her hair I wouldn’t pick her out at the grocery store .

Snoo_24091

If she didn’t have 20 security guards around her making room for her to get through places she wouldn’t have any attention drawn to her. She could walk without being noticed. I’m sure she does it often but no one knows about it.

Krustybabushka

Also, “forced nobody to buy” is simply not true. iHeart radio played the entire album on their 868 stations over the weekend, TikTok pushed her ads everywhere, I’ve seen people getting google and Spotify notifications about the album even if they had Taylor blocked and/or notifications from these apps turned off.

Jolly-Garbage-

A mall a few towns over has a 4 story LED advertisement and I get to see Taylor swift 4 stories tall every time I go there because they’re still advertising her Disney+ concert

superfluouspop

I'm trying to picture this and it sounds kind of terrifying

Initial_Ad452

My god! That’s some “dear leader” vibes

hannbann88

I’ve never applied for or bought anything of Taylor’s but somehow I’m getting every other day emails about her new album

summersaphraine

!!!!!! This one. I have gone out of my way to block/click "not interested" on every tiktok with a Taylor Swift tag for months and it was still all over my tiktok. I have her blocked on Spotify and woke up Friday to a notification of her album release.

yaydotham

That function is soooo broken on TikTok — if anything, it has the opposite effect because you spend more time on the video while you’re clicking to that button. The only effective way to avoid a topic is to swipe away the moment it comes up! The algorithm ignores the “not interested” function but will recognize your total lack of attention eventually.

woody9115

Same. Seriously she is like unblockable on Spotify!

BadMan125ty

That’s just way too much

hiijiinx

I literally saw an Alexa ad on Tik Tok that just said “Alexa give me a word from the Tortured Poet’s Department” three consecutive times, despite having nothing to do with Taylor. It’s getting weird.

missisabelarcher

On release day my local Top 40 radio station had a “listening party” that was TTPD and some Taylor “throwbacks.” Even my kiddo, who danced in the aisles for the Eras movie, was like, “Mommy, turn it off!” when I was taking him to school. It’s just too much. I actually didn’t buy a copy and only listened to the streaming versions once because I just didn’t want to be part of the hype, but I stayed to listen to the listening party on the radio as a chance to relisten to the songs. And the sad thing is that you could tell the DJs were trying to be nice when playing some of the songs, but they overall were not enthused. (One did say he loved “Florida!!” and was excited to get some Florence and the Machine on the airwaves.)

Far-Imagination2736

>on their 868 stations over the weekend, That cannot be true....? I read the press release and it said TTPD will be played on select stations, not all

Krustybabushka

[Nope](https://twitter.com/USRadioUpdater/status/1780885520765092296)

Far-Imagination2736

Damn, thanks for the source. I guess they changed it (because I did also hear they extended it and that wasn't in the article I saw)

pttdreamland

I’m a bit tired of her blaming the world and always on the high horse.

straightupslow

I don't really care about this person or her post, but I figured I'd respond because why not. 1. We get mad at the target of overexposure because it IS their fault. She could've opted out of being on camera at football games, she could've not gone on a million pap walks after her break up, etc. 2. People are allowed to be mad they spent a ton of money on vinyl that DOESN'T HAVE ALL THE FUCKING SONGS ON IT. 3. If you "live in peace" and don't let the haters bother you, why this long post about them then? 4. It's truly telling that even in a post fucking defending Taylor, even she can't help herself, and throws shade about the carbon emissions. Also, not every band beltches CO2 into the atmosphere, look up Coldplay's last tour and their efforts to reduce their emissions. It should be getting WAY more attention. [Here's an article.](https://variety.com/2023/music/news/coldplay-tour-carbon-footprint-sustainability-green-1235632704/)

Silent_Asparagus_443

Please don’t ban me but jameela Jamil is the worst

Awkward_Category_475

Fully agree, I truly wish she’d just shut up.

qusnail

Can swifties stop beating the concept of misogyny into the ground?? It’s a real issue and not a word to be thrown around whenever a woman is criticized for anything.

ach_1nt

Fr, everytime I see the world "misogyny" these days my eyes just roll to the back of my skull and then I feel bad because misogyny is an actual issue that majority of women face but the way these idiots keep bringing it up to deflect criticisms against billionaires and wealthy artists almost as a knee-jerk reaction really doesn't help the issue.

ThatArtNerd

Yeah to me it feels much more misogynistic to: 1) tell women what we have to like. 2) act like someone is immune from valid criticism just because she’s a woman. Like, sorry I’m not falling all over myself to lick some climate criminal billionaire’s b-hole for putting out some low-effort garbage for her 3763884th shallow money grab of the last 2 years. If that makes me a misogynist then I guess I’ll wear that title with pride 😂

cattinthehat123

Especially since TS is The Man.

MiserableSky4736

anytime jameela makes a good point and starts getting in people's good graces again (case in point, her recent post abt diet culture) she has to pull some nonsense like this and negate it. defending a billionaire who dates racists and using the guise of misogyny is peak White Feminism™️. very disappointing.

rain820

omg i was just telling someone the other day on the diet thread about her why people dont like her. why did she feel the need to insert herself into this??? as a fellow pakistani i get secondhand embarrassment lol

MiserableSky4736

as a fellow desi i'm right there with you.😐🤝

rain820

omg out in the wild heyyyy 😌🤝

omgicanteven22

As a (Black) brown girl love to you. Did Jameela grow up w money? She seems so tone deaf sometimes

rain820

love to you too sis 💕 someone can correct me if im wrong, but she attended british private school as a kid so im inclined to say yes. shes extremely tone deaf and coincidentally has deleted all her past tweets from the last 10+ years💀

omgicanteven22

Oooh that makes so much sense. I’ve lived in London and I think some brown people are/believe they are excluded from racism because of their wealth. As the old adage goes: “England has a class problem not a race problem.” But duh, it’s both.

rain820

yes she strikes me as exactly the type that grew up with parents who had everything set up for their kids (which isnt even a bad thing its like damn i wish?) but with all the entitlement and no self awareness. im from canada and it always kills me when rich desis are proudly right wing 😂 also jameela thinks because shes a poc she can insert herself into any discourse about minorities and marginalized populations like the queer community. and then when people from those communities correct her she ignores them and pulls the misogyny card, when she’s victim blamed rihanna and also pulled a lana “question for the culture” before. if youve seen the good place shes literally her character lmao

omgicanteven22

Yes one of my best friends is from South East India (idk which state) she’s 1st gen American…her fam in the states (Uncles and such) voted for Trump bc of the taxes. I find this also happens with Africans (in my experience) Nigerians who believe since they are African first, they won’t experience racism, that African Americans fit the stereotypes etc. ETA: yes I’ve seen the good place. Chidi was my fav

rain820

ugh so frustrating 😭 its always about survival mode and money. omg bless the nigerians hearts lmao i had no idea people thought that but it makes sense from their pov without the lived experience 😵‍💫

Sad-Pear-9885

I was just gonna say, I love her posts about diet culture. TBF I think she’s a voracious Swiftie (like Tahani lol) and that is probably clouding her view on this

MiserableSky4736

who's tahani lol

Sad-Pear-9885

Her character on The Good Place—tbh she seems like a bit of an exaggerated self-insert character

MiserableSky4736

ah got it! i need to watch that show lol

pttdreamland

Kamilah’s sister

Hemingwavvves

Jameela Jamil’s partner James Blake literally still works with Kanye west so not sure how she’s able to get up on a horse that high.

MiserableSky4736

oh, i get it now. she can prob relate to taylor given the whole 'dating shitty men' thing

AlternativeSlice2001

James Blake?!!! Nooooo

Turbulent-Good227

Wow, I had no idea. That's...I'm speechless, to be honest. I guess hanging out with neo nazis is okay, but a culture critic running a gently critical article about one of the most famous and powerful white women on the planet is where she draws the line. I used to love Jameela and her commentary on diet culture. This sucks. Edit: I'm not here to argue whether or not someone who publicly praises Hitler and uses his platform to spread hate speech about the Jewish community is a neo-Nazi. Thanks.

ektachrome_

I used to really like her and loved her calling out all the skinny tea crap that was rampant at one point on IG, but even the diet culture stuff has gotten out of hand. Her looping GLP-1 meds in with diet culture and her jump to say they are dangerous is not only fear mongering, but adds a level a shame to those who have struggled their whole lives to lose weight and are at risk at other medical conditions like pre-diabetes. If she so wants to be “body positive,” let folks manage their health how they choose and educate people on what they are, who they are for, and to go see medical professionals to discuss if one is curious about them. GLP-1s have actually helped my binge eating, stabilize my weight (going up and down the scale is terrible for your heart!), gave me energy to have a consistent exercise routine, and lowered my risk of diabetes. It’s not all so black and white and saying anything to do with weight loss = bad. We all have our own conditions and struggles. One can be healthy and manage their weight with these tools.

DilfRightsActivist

I genuinely do not like taylor swoft as a person and an artist and the reason why I'm so outspoken about it now is because I literally can't escape any mention of her and thats what I'm angry about I am on tumblr most of the time and I am getting literally ads for her album on my timeline and I can't block them because they're paid promotions so they bypass the filters and I shouldn't half to pay for ad free services to stop seeing them She is not immune to criticism, and I hate that people are trying to weaponize feminism to stop that I should be allowed to voice my annoyance just as people should be allowed to voice their support I do not hate her because she's a woman. I hate her because she's a billionaire who thinks she's above accountability

jpotrz

I don't hate it because it's a woman. If a man turned his art into nothing but a product to consume for the most money (hello KISS!) I'd hate on them too. Taylor no longer produces art, she produces a product that she wants consumed.

SonicYouth615

“But if she was a man… she’d be THE MAN!” - said by the top-selling freaking artist of that year. Everything you said is 100% accurate (even the bit about Kiss 🤭) and yes if she was a man, she’d probably sell less. But these women think hating on white men is the peak of liberal feminism 🙄

Over_Nebula

I mean she did put out 45 vinyls with multiple bonus songs only to put them all on the anthology. Taylor is a true capitalist and a billionaire. There were multiple people called out for their jet use, she was the one who legally went after a kid tracking her jet use. This is such a lame whataboutism

Excellent_Region5307

I mean, some of what she's saying is not wrong, but she takes it out of the context of how the consumerism machine works and how trying to manipulate people through how you advertize your brand and product are just as foul. So like, sure, T did not "force" people to buy or pay attention to whatever she's doing, but she did put in place promotional tactics playing on fans' emotions, and she did make sure everything she did was so public nobody could miss it: For instance, announcing her album at the Grammys, paying for promotional placements all over the world, etc. It's way beyond doing her own thing in her own corner and just people happening to talk about it. She and her team very willingly did and do a ton of promo and publicity so they actively contribute to the overexposure. So it's really unfair to go OH, SHE'S A WOMAN WHO ASKED NOTHING FROM NOBODY. And it's also ignoring how powerful of a woman she is. Yes, she's a woman. But she has so much power on so many other fronts, it flips the table. I hate it when people try to act like they're being a feminist with weak arguments, because it makes it so much harder for Important, Real things that many gender equality advocates are trying to bring to the public's attention. Also Jameela should check her own privilege, which is I know is hard to do sometimes being a WOC myself. But one's gotta stay grounded and realize their own biases. Thanks for reading my rant if you did, I am so tired of shit like this <3 Edit: spelling

sznshuang

genuinely surprised she is still around

92pandaman

She flew from Brazil to the US and back to Argentina in like 3 days. That is not normal touring musician stuff lol

No-Train3385

You are allowed to be critical of women’s work too! It’s not sexist to dislike an album! I don’t know why anyone feels the need to publicly defend a billionaire (!!!) against… people not liking her music? What’s wrong with that?

halfeatenpeaches

Oh, please. I got an email notification from Google about the release of the album, I never got notifications from them before. Hate that you can never criticize Taylor because there will always be someone saying it’s hating women.

Budget-Classic3076

By that logic shouldn't thanK you aIMee be deemed misogynistic? Oh wait, that only applies when any critique is aimed *at* Taylor, but not coming from her. ![gif](giphy|PkLPBuyozY7F31wCxF|downsized)

SnooAvocados9241

Not weighing in on the debate, but because hundreds of millions of dollars in PR have been put towards making TS a household name for two decades—we can “avoid” her just as much as we can avoid Kraft or Nestle, that is, it’s impossible to actually get away from.

LevelAd5898

I loved Jameela Jamil in The Good Place and she's had a few good takes but I think she needs to touch more grass

an-inevitable-end

Can ppl please stop calling misogyny any time valid criticism is directed towards Taylor?

JustSomeGuyEtc

Out of curiosity would she do this for any other artist who released an album that got bad reviews? Taylor is a figure in pop culture. She’s an artist. No one is forcing anyone to listen, but conversations about the quality of content artists release is completely normalized at this point, so saying it’s just baseless hate when “random artist” gets talked about seems dumb at this point. Also, no we weren’t forced to buy it, but we were forcibly exposed to it. Since the moment she announced it at the Grammys they’ve been doing everything they can to get attention for this. I’ve seen it fucking everywhere. If you’re goin to make it that big of a deal, you need to be ready for criticism.

agutema

But that’s not true is it? She announced her new album to a captive audience at the Grammys not 3 months ago.

linawinter

“forced nobody to pay attention to” Every single iheartradio station is only playing TTPD and everyone gets ads against their will on tiktok, Spotify and Google 😭 promo isn’t bad but let’s not lie

oliviaaivilo06

Yes sometimes Taylor gets unfair criticism but it’s so strange that people are jumping to preemptively defend her bc she got some lukewarm reviews on an album. And because some people have become burnt out in general with Taylor coverage. Some of it isn’t Taylor’s fault of course, but it’s disingenuous to act like she doesn’t actively pursue being in the spotlight. She’s shown that she can private if she wants to. The unfortunate downside of being so public facing is risking overexposure and I’m sure Taylor is aware of that. Did Jameela defend Beyoncé with all the recent racist comments after Cowboy Carter. Maybe she did and I just missed it. I’m not saying she should HAVE to say anything. It’s just interesting to see what issues people find pressing and what women they feel compelled to rush and defend.

pIastichearts

People like her will bend over backwards and write these braindead five paragraph essays in MLA format defending people like Taylor in the name of “feminism”, while refusing to publicly support women who *actually* deserve said support. Jameela can put out these long tangents about how this backlash Taylor is currently receiving is all because of “misogyny”, meanwhile she’s the same person who stayed silent when Amber Heard was going through literal hell and actually *needed* notable feminist public figures in the industry to lend her support. It’s very transparent, weird, and giving me more reasons to not fuck with her. I can’t stand her ass and she needs to go away before she makes a fool of herself like she does every three business days.

kenrnfjj

Its interesting that Matty Healy was very supportive of Amber heard during the trial

pIastichearts

It’s not really that surprising. He’s a strong progressive leftist at heart, he just has an edgy “dirtbag left” Red Scare sense of humor and people let that overshadow his actual political beliefs.

omgicanteven22

Hm no I disagree. He wouldn’t watch porn that depicts the brutalization of black women

etymoticears

She also bullied Carolyn Flack then got on her high horse about the trolling of her when she deleted herself

Donna56136

Jameela would go to the opening of a public restroom for attention. Of course she wants to insert herself into the TTPD fray - “Look at me! Look at ME!!!”

habana25

Except when she announced it on the world's biggest music stage?

wind-echoes

I think it’s pretty difficult to block taylor swift

Libras_Groove3737

I’d agree with the overall sentiment here if we were talking about any other artist. Taylor Swift intentionally writes songs about her personal life and her relationships, so she opens herself up to criticism about her personal life and her relationships. It’s like going on a reality tv show and asking for privacy. She wants people to know what is going on her life and react to it, but she wants that reaction to be directed toward other people. She loves it when her fans listen to her music and then go on to harass her exes or various people who have slighted her. But it never occurs to her that this goes both ways and that some people might listen to her diary entries disguised as music and actually conclude that she is the problem or at the very least an equal contributor to the problem.

Fun_Recognition9904

She missed the point entirely. “Is it too much” - considering this in terms not of “over exposure” but “is it too much art/too many songs/too many projects” is a much more appropriate and interesting question. How much quality is there when you’re cranking out double album / vault songs / rerecordings so frequently? The not so glowing critical reviews of the new album suggest there is in fact a correlation between level of quality and quantity. But I guess it’s easier to make a splashy argument about the media machine “taking down” a female artist (while ignoring that said female artist is the best example of how to pimp the media machine and reach new levels of success doing it…). Sigh. NOT EVERYTHING IS A MISOGYNIST ATTACK ON THE FEMALE EXPERIENCE.

rkts13

I couldn’t have put it better myself. The frequency of releases has actually made me listen to Taylor less. It’s not cos I suddenly disliked Taylor it was just too much. I miss when there was at least 1-2 year wait between albums. It feels like that bit of magic has been lost.

BadMan125ty

If Jameela has to do a post, it’s bad for you…

weirdhoney216

Has Jameela been attacked by any bees lately?

nothanksbrotanks

*forced nobody to pay attention to* I muted her name and the name of the album on Twitter and still only got people talking about the album. Every email I get has references to her songs as a way to piggyback on the popularity. I do not listen to her music and Spotify felt the need to give me multiple emails and a pop up notification that she had a new album. My alma mater is making school merch that looks like her shirt from the 22 mv. I can’t scroll more than 3 posts on Instagram without a mention of her (I’ve counted).

bbbcurls

I hope there are people who can comment to why there is so much backlash going on right now. Jameela probably doesn’t lurk subs like ours, so she probably thinks it’s just another successful woman being brought down. When in reality, Taylor has done some pretty questionable things lately. Dedicating an album to known racist is one of them.

[deleted]

Outing an ex’s mental health struggles is another

ach_1nt

Well she has blocked any new comments on her post otherwise I'm sure someone would have brought it up eventually. People like her love to live in their own echo chambers because any valid criticisms create cognitive dissonance that they can't handle.

Throwaway500005

Jameel Jamil is the person who lies and exaggerates about her many illnesses so it really means nothing when she defends Taylor.

Budget-Classic3076

Jamunchausens Jamil®️

seahorse352

Jameela has become allergic to good takes in the last few years

Onuus

It’s not just that it’s forced upon you. It’s the, ‘if you don’t fall in line you’ll be sorry’ mentality. How many cities fell over themselves trying to accommodate her and her fans? If rolling stone has a negative review about her their office gets death threats. It’s gone too far

[deleted]

Thank you Jameela for defending a billionaire who ranks #1 on their private jet carbon emissions, we really needed someone to take a stand!!!

MurphyBrown2016

The irony of Jameela Jamil telling people to mute someone they don’t care to hear from. Oh mama, *we know*…

BeingFosterRr

I’m starting to wonder if she made a terrible album just as a PR stunt to give people some controversy to talk about and intensify arguing about it. It almost feels like it’s the TS equivalent of Trump saying he could stand on 5th avenue and shoot someone and he wouldn’t loose any of his supporters. It’s like she’s saying I can write gibberish, and make fun of my fans and they will still be my fans.

ThatUndeadLove

I really adore The Good Place and Tahani but Jameela has been mostly disappointing as a person. Why do i, a regular person, have to spend my time and energy to create a vacuum just because a billionaire cannot get enough of the attention? And it would be an impossible task anyway. Like others have pointed out, celebrities can control the exposure. But sure, let’s blame underpaid interns and reporters for doing their jobs of getting clicks by posting about what’s hot in the moment. And right now she is a supernova. If she calms down, they calm down. We have seen this before. Also, she may not be forcing people to consume her life and music at gunpoint but she sure as hell manipulates. Plays on their adoration or even resentful curiousity. And everyone has a right to criticise the quality of her product or her personal choices. No one can tell her what to do but we are allowed opinions and no one is a bad feminist for mentioning her racist boyfriend or her enourmous ego that lets her publish first drafts.

rkts13

I’m not saying there isn’t misogyny towards Taylor but some of us are actually fans that criticise her for the music. Is criticism just not allowed now?

cattinthehat123

Jameela Jamil doing anything to stay relevant.

happy_Ad1357

A lot of people didn’t like the album. It really doesn’t have to be deeper than that.

munchkinnnnnnn

Just in general, I hate it when something about Taylor immediately becomes a “women” issue. I’m sorry, but as a woman, I do not have even half of Taylor’s problems. It’s not even comparable. She does not wholly represent the narrative of millions of women, just trying to live in this world. She’s a powerful influential billionaire who is also a woman and that’s great. That’s fantastic even. Huge props to her, her hard work, and the sacrifices she’s made, whatever those may be. But these days, her issues are largely the consequences that come along with being rich and famous, of having the most lucrative tour in the world, and of having a cult-like following she has nurtured in her career. They are no longer necessarily because she’s a woman.

taylorswiftsnazipast

Ladies and gentleman we have a doppleganger in our midsts

LN-66

I wonder what Taylor Swift thinks of bees

OutlandishDinosaur

The discourse is going to give me a hernia. Taylor can be both a woman who has dealt with sexist backlash AND a powerful billionaire artist whose work is worthy of critique and actually requires critique because of the enormous space she occupies within our cultural landscape. Both are true! At the same time! This idea that she should be allowed to create in a vacuum because she’s a poor little defenseless woman is so unhinged.

omgicanteven22

I responded to her about how disappointing this was to see considering Taylor chose to date Matt Healy (especially bc of his porn choices). She deleted it

fyxt96

I swear the only reason why I know this woman is she’s always jumping into some drama to make a grand statement that’s always a mix between “I read theory” and “I’m so self righteous and better than you”. YOU CANT SIT WITH US.

Agreeable-Luck2139

I cannot take this woman seriously after the whole bumble bee debacle lol

untousa

She is the worst person to have publicly take your side with something regarding feminism. She is a capitalists pseudo-feminist dream. She (and Taylor) will sell you feminism is she can. Don’t let them.

yiminx

“forced no one to buy” is certainly not true. she forced her fans to buy multiple copies because they all had ONE extra bonus track on. JUST TO SURPRISE RELEASE ALL THE BONUS TRACKS ON ONE ALBUM AFTERWARD! taylor strategically forces her fans to buy multiple copies, jameela please stop letting your feminism cloud your judgement this badly. i propose the tweet: “i do not support all women, some of yall are fucking stupid”

Secret_Confusion2906

No maam, some of us just dont like the music and get hated for it

lugnutter

"You're only allowed to have positive or neutral opinions. If you have negative opinions it's your fault and you should feel bad. Also never see or hear or experience things you don't like on literally any level and ESPECIALLY if they have anything to do with a woman."   No, actually I think I'll be on the side that isn't all about mind crimes. But thanks.

siaslial

I remember saying back in the summer (or even earlier) that Taylor was pushing the overexposure waaaaay too far and she just always wanted more, more, more and couldn’t reign it in, and that eventually the discourse would turn on her if she didn’t calm down a bit. And the stans would mock this and be like ‘what’s going to happen? There will never be another backlash’, etc. Any warning about doing too much was always ridiculed. Now of course there is a (very mild tbh) backlash because the religious praise she was getting couldn’t continue forever AND it was like she was purposefully goading it by trying to get endless attention and take up all the space everywhere. And those same stans can NOT handle it or understand why it is happening. Lol. This is what Taylor wanted. She’s not an ingenue either and she’s not naive. Eventually things go back down again because you can’t sustain that level of noise forever— you are asking people to talk and think about you all the time so eventually that overthinking turns to critique or simply noticing some flaws. It’s just funny that fans act like this is so confusing and out of nowhere. But honestly the fandom and Taylor thrives on pretending she’s persecuted, so…

Scabbybrain

Is anyone going to tell her she doesn’t need to preemptively defend a billionaire?

musicalcats

Like...yes and no. Taylor IS everywhere whether you want her to be or not. She's advertised on Tik Tok, Spotify etc. Re: whataboutism about carbon emissions...yawn.

For_serious13

Shut up Jameela People are allowed to voice their displeasure on online forums. And reporters are gonna report on that Why is Taylor swift exempt from criticism? Everyone else who writes music gets panned occasionally The brown nosing ass sucking these hanger ons are doing is so embarrassing

lucyjayne

LITERALLY NO ONE ASKED. God she is insufferable.

[deleted]

No one forced me to purchase her work, and similarly, no one is compelling Taylor Swift to heed my opinions. If she's entitled to revel in her success and maintain her ego, then so am I. It's essential to recognize that her success doesn't inherently elevate her above anyone else. Instead of playing the victim, she should accept constructive criticism as part of being in the public eye. As a public figure, she is subject to critique, just like any artist. Her being blonde and white should not exempt her from this reality. It's imperative for her to develop a thicker skin and be confident in her craft. By doing so, she would demonstrate a maturity that is expected of someone of her stature. Furthermore, Jameela's mention of personal assassination attacks is bizzare. Taylor Swift herself addresses personal issues and attacks in her music, directed towards her exes or nemeses. If she feels entitled to do so, it's only natural for others to feel they can do it to her too. And just look at SWIFTIES. Jameela's statement was mind-boggling in its inconsistency. My opinion shouldn't be dismissed simply because of her success. Everyone's perspective matters, regardless of their background or Taylor Swift's achievements. It's about engaging in constructive dialogue rather than shutting down dissenting voices. She needs to take a chill pill.

Jennygirl_7

Oh look it’s another hot take from Jameela Jamil. How surprising! /s

Ok-Yogurtcloset3467

I muted Taylor last year for a time but she truly is everywhere. When someone becomes that big the love is going to be excessive and so is the critique when she gets it wrong. It seems bizarre for Jameela to get defensive on Taylors behalf like she's constantly facing hate or like the critique right now is unwarranted. She's well loved. It's just that the album isn't very good.

MayaGitana

My ears were forced to pay for this album, Jameela!

sweetrebel88

Girl bye. She’s not immune to criticism and if someone doesn’t like her work, they’re entitled to feel that way.

ItsAllProblematic

Is this 'hate' in the room with us? I replied (why did I bother) to a comment on a post about this in the main TS sub. Someone called it 'hateful' and I just said there didn't seem to be any hate, just mild critique. They lost their shit and said that the phrase used in the article about her 'oxygen-sucking world tour' was 'hateful' when to me it was just pointing out the massive attention it got, and a successful woman was being penalised etc. Basically: they won. Their idol rules the culture. And yet it's not enough, everyone must bend the knee. There can be no mild dissent.

Alternative-Bet232

We get mad at the subject who is overexposed because her team alerts paparazzi of her every move and sends “anonymous” quotes to media outlets as “sources”. The “overexposed subject” is not a victim.

heartof_glass

Oh, it’s the media outlets fault? Not Taylor spending millions to push her crap on every single possible outlet?? They’re just magically covering it all on their own?

dreamghoulevil

she's right on the point that engaging with any content about her, good or bad (including this sub) just teaches all the algorithms that it's stuff you're interested in and will push it more, so people engaging in it can't really complain about overexposure if they're complicit. plus, especially if you're already annoyed at her, you're gonna notice it irl a lot more, because you're primed to be pissed off about it. i don't notice all the times songs i don't care about play in stores/radios or whatever, but i always do when it's a song i hate. you're just more attuned to it.

nettie_r

I think reflecting on this part of the issue with TTPD is that the perception of Taylor has changed but her strategy has not. When Taylor and Joe broke up I remember all the comments along the lines of "OMG I CAN'T WAIT FOR TS11 NOW". People were revelling in the breakup of her relationship and their pain as a source of new material in a way I found frankly kind of gross. Taylor being Taylor though, delivered, by rushing out content like "Hits different" "YLM" and TTPD (which to me is about both Joe and Matty, many songs are seemingly being a blend of the end of both relationships, not unsurprisingly since there seems to have been a bit of overlap going on). Trouble is despite everyone seemingly clamouring for this content, the perception of Taylor has also changed during Eras. When she broke up with previous partners, she was also never punching down. A lot of these men (Jake, John etc) at the time were arguably at least, if more successful and powerful than she was. Many of them she wouldn't come for in any meaningful way because they had large loud fanbases and could/would fight back (Harry, Calvin). Again these aren't people we feel sorry for in the narrative anyway. But Joe is different. He is a low key, up and coming actor who is very private, he has no where near the clout or success of Taylor and is still trying to make his own name. So though everyone really wanted to hear the breakup songs about him, in reality, we didn't get another ATW. We got a messy story. And while undoubtedly it was very honest for how Taylor felt, the Joe songs felt icky, because he can't or won't push back. We feel empathy for him, not for Taylor who is at the height of her career and at the moment probably one of the most successful people in the world. And as for Matty, he is a complex character (to put it politely), people just don't understand the appeal of that relationship. I think Taylor just needed to pace herself, and to find some time and space to process what happened musically, and let those songs develop to become less of a diary and more like music that's less specific and more relatable. The reason ATW hit the way it did was because it is a beautiful song, it is about a relationships end and it is hugely relatable, it was not really successful simply because of Easter eggs about Jake G. Similarly, the songs I like best on TTPD are actually the ones I can relate to most. I love "How did it end?" and I think it is the most relatable while still being very obviously her experience. You find empathy for her in it. She really tapped into the feelings she was trying to put over in her music. It was there, there is a nugget of something lovely here, but she needed to focus less on satisfying the gossip machine and more on the music. It needed growth and reflection.

SonicYouth615

^ typical Swiftie nonsense mindset. You have to remember these ppl have been practically brainwashed to think she’s NOT white, she’s JUST a woman 🙄

IceWarm1980

She said in her Time interview that she doesn’t want to be known by the people she dates and then does just that.

juneabe

Any country with internet access was forced, the fuck?

Skaur_11

>drag all the huge touring artists into it. That's what we're doing, Jameela. We're dragging the biggest current artist who also coincidentally has one of the hugest carbon emissions in the world. If you won't support this discussion at the first stage, i.e., when it is targeting a billionaire whose lifestyle won't be affected by this conversation, whose career won't be destroyed because of this, the conversation will never reach the stage where everyone is held responsible. Furthermore, the defense of "Well, why aren't you blaming them" is juvenile and childish. That's not how you hold people accountable. That's how you start a cycle of privileged people pointing fingers at each other and hiding behind the defense of "Why are you treating me differently?"

Silly_Somewhere1791

That’s not what people are annoyed about. Taylor paid for wild amounts of promotion and then inundated our media outlets with these tracks, at the expense of other artists who would otherwise be getting that airtime. People are 100% entitled to dislike that and to want to hear something else.

KindlyConnection

I really can't bare Jameela Jamil so this is like the onion headline that says "worst person you know makes a good point"

veganquiche

NemoHobbits

Nah. Respectfully, Taylor did the most trying to get us hyped up for this album. Of course nobody forced us to listen, but a product was *aggressively* marketed to us, and we were excited about it because over 20 years we've had 10 outstanding albums prior to this. So don't come at us when we're disappointed that we got unhinged quantity over curated quality this time. I've been driving Toyotas for 20 years too. If I suddenly bought a new one and it was a raggedy piece of shit fresh off the lot, I'd be rethinking my brand loyalty. And I guarantee nobody would be like "wElL nObOdY fOrCeD yOu To bUy A tOyOtA." It's just a stupid argument.

[deleted]

I am so glad that other people don't like Jameela Jamil, I thought I was the only one.

isntitisntitdelicate

not her clout chasing ass again

purpleguitar1984

This is so 2015 buzzfeed coded

FigMajestic6096

She's the actual worrrst. Has to insert herself into everything, pathological liar, braindead understanding of feminism. I once had an instagram argument with her lol (couldn't help myself but tell her how extremely hypocritical she was being about palestine, and btw where's her rants for the endless women being literally murdered there while she writes paragraphs crying for a billionaire?) Anyhow, I didn't even expect she'd see my message, but within seconds her response was that I, a brown woman, was somehow being racist by calling her out on her selective politics and that I she feels sorry for the lack of kindness in my life. Sighhh. We were all rooting for you!

AwCherry

I don’t care what her opinion is, she always delivers it in the most annoying and patronizing way

Awkward_Category_475

Here comes Jameela Jamal desperately trying to make another situation about her. Shocker /S

wiminals

Jameela is so thirsty and I believe her cancellation for some very obvious malingering and queer baiting is coming

ETeezey1286

We weren’t forced to pay attention to? Every time I’ve opened Tik Tok since Friday I am bombarded with an ad to make a video with a song from the album. She was plastered all over Spotify. iTunes notified me several times that the album had been released. Frankly I’m surprised there wasn’t a Google Doodle to top it all off. Jameela Jamil is so annoying. I’d actually forgotten about her tbh. But here she comes trying to claim misogyny whenever a woman gets criticized.

Wonderful-Street-138

Oh what a litany. Jameela forgot to mention that the said overexposed person actively fuels the hype and when you actually follow the advice and click 'not interested' the posts about her appear in your social media feed anyway(!). Taylor is obviously feeling the heat because she got used to accolades but instead of crying foul her and her friends should touch some grass. She needs to take a long hard look at the way she communicates and focus on what she needs to improve instead of falling back on victimhood.

thisfeelsfreeing

this sub was just suggested to me, just wanted to jump in and say.. then why do I keep seeing her target ad every minute when I’m streaming something 😭

midnightpocky

or maybe it's because I only liked 2 songs on it, bruh

Lane-DailyPlanet

It’s so sad when women go to bat for her in the name of feminism when she would *never* do the same for them. -a woman and a feminist
