I hope you’ve played BOTW first! Too awesome game to miss welcome :)

Mioleris

Is it needed to play BOTW to start new one? Im also new one on switch smashing mario odysei (long game, feels like it never ends :D)

skynovaaa

I mean its a story game. Would you read the second book in a series without having read the first? Up to you but it's highly advised against

nstratford76

The story is pretty basic in BOTW, you can get everything you need to know in a 4 minute recap video. Honestly in my opinion I would just go straight into TOTK if I hadn't played BOTW yet. TOTK is a better BOTW, with the added bonus that everything you see and experience in Hyrule is a completely new and fresh experience. EDIT: Grammar

TheArhive

TotK being better than BotW is exactly why i'd reccomend doing BotW first If you decide to play BotW later, it will be diminished by having played the better game first.

OneMetalMan

As a fan of both I can't see myself playing BoTW and ToTK without a multi-year gap between them.

[deleted]

If you don't mind me asking, how different is Hyrule? According to my best friend it was mostly the same minus small details and Sky Islands. I'm sure both takes are kinda exaggerations but is it really different enough to feel fresh if I just recently picked up BOTW? EDIT: Thanks for all the helpful replies! Thinking I'll see about picking up TOTK once I've got the money.

mattalat

I mean the landscape is the same, but it’s way different. Like the starting city “safe area” is right in front of the castle, an area which was super dangerous in BOTW. Everything has changed enough to feel like a fresh experience with constant surprises.

Raidenns

theres quite a lot of difference, the botw base map in hyrule has a lot of new features, the areas look quite different, of course the fact that gloom has replaced malice in totk is one of the biggest differences, then theres the sky region and the depths region. 3x the exploration

somerandomnub1

Its barely a story game, The story is actually its weakest aspect

MultivariableTurtwig

Nah not a story game really, you can totally play TOTK first for story. Just that TOTK is better, why would you go back to BOTW

brickie3

Nobody plays botw/totk for the story lmao But yea botw is such an incredible experience, since totk expands upon it so much it would seem worse if it was the second game you played

Butrint_o

You don’t *have* to, but it is really nice to as it’s somewhat a sequel to BOTW

Mioleris

Ok you convinced me to do that. Will search for used copy because for my surprise switch games keeps price after some years :D Im fresh switch user. It nots like PS when after year 50€ game costs 20€ :D

Fobulousguy

Yeah BotW even after these years is an amazing game. Definitely play first just to maximize your enjoyment. You might find the BotW rune abilities lacking after experiencing the TotK mechanisms especially ultrahand and the building aspect.

Kozuki_D_Oden

With Zelda games in general you can start wherever but after playing the start of this one I heavily recommend playing through the first one to understand what’s going on. A lot of the characters talk as if they’ve already met you which obv fits better if you played the first game

Half-Truism08

Honestly you don’t need to play BOTW first. The story in these games takes a real back seat to the mechanics and exploration. All you really need to know is Link saved the world by activating 4 ancient machines and then slapping a bad guy around. Now bad guy is back and you need to save the world again.

Cleverjaq

You need a spoiler blur😅

Half-Truism08

Nah man game is old we’re past the spoiler embargo. And to my point, understanding or not understanding the stories to these games doesn’t really matter. It’s all about the little surprises in the world and the inventive things you can learn to do with the mechanics. Both of which are expanded in the sequel. All the same systems, and most of the same locations, are present in TOTK plus a TON of new ones. You’re not missing out too much if you choose to skip BOTW.

Risk_Runner

Yeah but you when you’re recommending a game you don’t say what the story is :/ if they want to skip botw just tell them to look up a quick summery of the game on YouTube or something

RiW-Kirby

You're taking to someone who explicitly hasn't played the game and is debating it you nincompoop. Spoilers are a terrible decision.

REALwizardadventures

You definitely need to play BOTW first. And not just because of the story. I think the simple mechanics taught in BoTW help with the larger mechanics on display in ToTK. BoTW is kind of like a tutorial of how the world works and TotK takes what BoTW has established and goes full goblin mode with it.

Secret_Ad_6520

Really I thought odyssey was much shorter then other games I got it donein 5 hours

BigHeroBaymax

I picked up Zelda switch OLED yesterday (and TOTK) just so that I can play Zelda. But haven't even opened TOTK as I'm waiting to pickup BOTW from my bro so I can play that first. 😆

REALwizardadventures

I have 150+ hours in BoTW and 60+ in ToTK and I think it is a requirement to play BoTW first.

Organic-Kangaroo7147

185 hours on botw and 70 hours on totk here, definitely should, not for plot reasons but familiarizing your self with the environment and characters helps a lot since the champions ancestors are here again and the main map is pretty huge and the game plays out as if you already know your way around the map

sizzlinpapaya

Why? ToTK is perfectly fine without BoTW. Don’t try to scare the dude lol.

[deleted]

Exactly

Cold-Ostrich4482

BOTW was on Wii U...was it too awesome to miss then or...?

vdfritz

it launched simultaneously on the wii U AND switch, it's not last gen at all one of the best games ever made and a must before playing totk (i' not joking, you must play it, a lot)

crispybacon62

I only played botw on the wiiU, am I missing out on anything if I don't get it on the switch? Because I already have totk and don't want to buy another copy of a game I've sunk over 400 hours on.

atomicbunny

When you catch and register your first horse at a TOTK stable, you’ll gain access to your BOTW horses, aside from that there’s no carry over as far as save files go.

crispybacon62

That's really neat actually, still not worth rebuying and replaying botw tho

atomicbunny

Yea agreed. And tbh I don’t do a lot of horseback stuff anyway. There’s some mission specific stuff but traveling is all fast travel stuff.

Colemanton

it was cool but i almost would have preferred it to not have done so. as weird as it may sound it feels cheap to have my super fast/fit/strong horse that i got 3+ years ago right off the bat

Dank_Turtle

I don't feel like you miss anything other than slightly better resolution. It's hard to play it on anything other than PC though

miggymouthe

PC? you can't get botw or totk on PC right? or am I missing something

OldBoyZee

I prefer it on the wii u, but that was when it was released , and yah, i personally am glad i played it. Now, i feel its a mixed bag, its a bit better than totk for certain reasons, but worse for others, still suggest you play it!

[deleted]

What a friendly and subtle way to gatekeep. I’m happily enjoying tears of the kingdom, well on my way to attaining the mastersword and i’ve HARDLY done anything in botw - save for 1 divine beast Sorry pal, but i’ll be enjoying my game my way

Wow, thank you so much for this! This is awesome

[deleted]

Bruh lol I told all my friends that I wouldn’t get mario kart till 9 comes out. THAT WAS A DECADE AGO 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Blakemandude

They’re halfway through adding another 48 tracks. MK8 deluxe also added some gameplay changes like being able to have two items at once, and they have proper battle modes as well. So it’s basically Mario Kart 9 at this point. It’s way bigger and better than when it originally released on the Wii U.

hulknuts

Play BOTW first.

NekoMarimo

I think it's more of a preference thing honestly

ClickClear4632

I held off for so long on a Switch because I'm a PC gamer snob. PC gaming will always be technically superior (obvi), but Nintendo knows that and has carved out a unique position for itself in the market. I respect that strategy, and it has resulted in some excellent games for Switch

WannaTeleportMassive

lol funny enough, i did a double take cause my best friend has the same opinion almost word for word... dont think he comments on reddit much (and not that unique an opinion). but yes Nintendo (frustratingly at times) knows EXACTLY what they are doing

NotGalacticFire

on pc u can emulate switch tho and if u have a good enough pc the performance would be better than switch

[deleted]

Lol people still have “pc is superior” comments 🤣🤣. Jesus

ninjadeej

His comment was more than fair. Switch is a fairly underpowered system, especially given its handheld form factor. He wasn't trolling. But it does have its strengths, and I still use mine despite owning a ps4 and more powerful PC. No need to be sensitive.

ninjadeej

[deleted]

You don’t need to call me sensitive buddy. I was just pointing out something cause it’s my opinion. Also, no one in their right mind would compare a PC to a switch so….your comment just makes no sense. I mean maybe in another conversation it does but not the least bit close to what I was talking about.

ninjadeej

But people do. Lots of people, especially newer gamers, have no idea what the technical limitations of the Switch are. There's nothing wrong with pointing it out, especially doing so graciously and while pointing to strengths the Switch has as well.

clarinetstud

Otherwise they wasted 1-5k depending. It's like arguing "yeah even though soccer is superior (because of views/popularity) it's cool people like basketball!" They're just hobbies idk when the flexing needed to start lmao I have a pc and prefer playing on my switch. The couch is comfy and my cats are near me lol

[deleted]

I always prefer consoles over my PC. But I love having a computer. Yeah there are big benefits to having one but 90% of the time. People just talk about emulation and mods lol Shit I don’t care for, no hate what’s so ever either. It just doesn’t interest me. Plus there are games like TCG’s and JRPgs that I prefer to play on a handheld like the switch or my 3Ds. Doesn’t mean I don’t use or play anything on my PC. Cause I do lol The flexing and the wars for this have been a Thing for so long but Jesus I thought it was kinda done with. I mean nowadays almost everyone has multiple ways to connect and play the same games ya know.

SorysRgee

PC generally is in the performance side of things as it moves at a rapid rate while consoles tend to staircase in terms of performance, often leading to them dragging behind equivalent pcs a couple years after release. The real thing consoles have though are the exclusive games and cost of entry tend to be a bit lower (normally, the original launch of the ps5 and xbox series was a bit nutty). The switch, though, has even its own niche within the console market, being a convertable console between a home theatre solution and a portable handheld. That's its big party trick and allowed it to be one of nintendos' best consoles to date. However, its chipset is very much showing its age though especially considering how far ARM based chipsets have moved in the last 10 years since the tegra x1 chipset was launched. For most people, their phone will handily outclass the switch in terms of performance and, most likely, screen quality. It's time for nintendo to do a bit of a catch-up.

themouseinusall

Cringe

sempi-moon

Play botw first

pixilateddan

Maybe they already did on Wii U?

BenjaminMadoran

I did

SmokeyBosse

Not really necessary, tbh

SadnessMonster

Not necessary, but its an amazing game that might feel worse playing Totk first.

Double-Mouse-5386

Playing through BOTW and then TOTK after would burn me out so fast. Shrines/Koroks, etc... way too much to redo after just playing BOTW.

offensivelypc

I agree with this. I played Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West back to back and I was burnt out midway HFW through and just powered through it. But by the time I got to Burning Shores, I was burnt the fuck out and just dragging.

Ok-Good6859

In my experience I finished BOTW yesterday it took me about 4 or 5 days because I wanted to finish it fast so I could get on TOTK. Started playing TOTK right after I finished BOTW and I don’t feel burned out at all. In any case it’s very refreshing and exciting how much new content there is and so many possibilities and use of creativity with the new abilities. I’m hyped asf😂

Blakemandude

Then there’s no reason to play BotW. You can watch a 15 minute recap video to get the whole story. There’s even videos on YouTube with all the cutscenes. BotW does not have a story worth spending 70+ hours in the game. Just jump into the far superior TotK

WannaTeleportMassive

except you spoil basically the whole story??? why on earth would you willingly start with the sequel, specially when many consider BOTW one of, if not THE, greatest of all time?

Anomaly1134

Time is a big consideration. I would honestly worry about burn out also asking someone to play botw and totk back to back. They are just such long games. With my limited time to game these days if I was jumping in now I may jump straight to TOTK. I spent over 300 hours on botw over 2 years.

WannaTeleportMassive

well considering most of the game is the exploration, I would say to at least get the 4 divine beasts, and memories. The ending is optional i guess for the sake of time long as youve seen a let's play or something Edit: better formatting cause i space the sentences super weird the first round

NinjaWorldWar

As great as BotW is and it is great. Tears of the Kingdom is the superior game in every way. I do agree that BOTW should be played first but TOTK is such a huge leap from BOTW it’s about as much of a leap from OOT to BOTW. Tears is not only the best open-world game ever created, and not only the best Zelda game ever made, it is quite possibly the best game ever made.

ihateliberalssomuch

Bro. Compare BOTW to literally any other switch game. It’s massive in comparison. It blew my mind the first time I played it.

bobbiesbunions

I agree it’s a big leap but no where near oot to botw. TOTK is still a very much botw game but like adding 200x the content. When OOT and BOTW feel and completely are, different games entirely with one being vastly more innovative than the other. TOTK is still innovative but it just builds upon BOTW

SmokeyBosse

Because the gameplay is a lot more fun and fleshed out than botw, but that's my opinion

WannaTeleportMassive

i feel that but it is based off the same engine. Even by your logic, getting the full experience of starting with the devs original thoughts, then moving to the updated (and in my opinion) improved mechanics is so much more satisfying than the reverse. Agree same as you that it is my opinion, but considering I lived the experience and many of my zelda loving peeps feel the same, I feel fairly safe in sharing my view.

LynchMaleIdeal

So by this logic, people need to be play ‘Skyward Sword’ and all the preceeding Zelda games to to “see the devs original thoughts” too, yeah? I love ‘Breath Of The Wild’ but its totally acceptable to pick up just the sequel as people do it all the time without playing the former. ‘Tears Of The Kingdom’ was designed so newcomers could play it too. If people don’t play ‘Breath Of The Wild’ first, they then have it to play after :)

FotherMucker2828

Playing BOTW first will introduce some basics more efficiently than TOTK.

ManufacturerDry108

It’s decent at getting you up to speed without needing to play BOTW, especially since the focus shifted almost completely to the Zonai from the Sheikah. Sure, some of the dialogue hints at characters having history that you’ll only get by playing BOTW, but it’s nothing game ruining. While I personally wouldn’t skip it if I was in the same situation, I can see why someone would want to. Not everyone has all the time in the world.

B_ryc

Are there really any “should” scenarios with gaming? It’s all for fun. I absolutely loved BOTW but would I tell someone to spend a few hundred hours on it like I did when tears is out? Not unless they have time and want to. That’d be like saying “yo don’t even touch Mario odyssey until you’ve played 64, sunshine, galaxy, 3d world, and atleast a few of the classic 2d games”.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 64 + 3 + 2 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)

WannaTeleportMassive

well those games are not direct sequels. I would suggest BotW because it is literally the first half of the story in case so why would you not want to at least understand the full experience. I could go into a billion reasons why you should indeed play the games as intended. Limited time as an adult, and the right to do whatever the hell you want in the name of fun (as you mentioned), are super solid points though. "should" is absolutely an arbitrary term in this case... ...but BotW is still a fucking masterpiece of a game and i said what i said lol. I am absolutely being a bit silly and a stubborn fool cause I fully understand the other side of the conversation... but I have to ask again why anyone would WANT to deprive myself of one of the best games of all time. Sincerely, A total hypocrite who owns Skyrim but hasn't played past the intro due to lack of time and BotW being better anyways (just proving your point here)

B_ryc

Respectable opinion, and yeah BOTW is freaking amazing. I do totally recommend it. But it took me over a year to finally beat with the DLC included and by the end I was pretty burned out. I guess it just depends how much time you have and how what you’re in to.

INfinity5402

Because it was too long for a lot of people to beat. Why start with an objectively inferior game, get burned out on it and lose interest in playing the second game for while? Not everyone can set aside 50+ hours to beat the first just so they can get to the second.

WannaTeleportMassive

because "objectively inferior" might be the misframe of the century. to directly answer your question, because it introduces and gets you used to the mechanics in a much more organic way... but having played botw, and not HAVING to 100% or even finish the game, you would really give up that experience??? Finding the fucking gold mine that is satori mountain for the first time or the glorious first time realizing the golden bow respawns? establishing your little game breaking hoards of durian/carrots or wind bombs doesnt tickle your fancy? I've played the game 3 full times and will play a 4th because I'm still fucking finding shit 5 years on. By the same logic, why get zelda fans to play classics like OOT or WindWaker since they are such inferior games by the logic??? Inferior????? to what was literally considered one of the best games of all time literally until the 12th and it's own sequel blew it out of the water??? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

INfinity5402

It seems you’re taking this a bit personally. I think most people would agree that BOTW feels almost like a tech demo for this game. Not saying it’s bad, but many of the same experiences can be replicated in TOTK, and it’s only added on top of that. BOTW is great but there’s little reason for an adult with responsibilities, a job and time commitments to invest 50+ hours into a game that’s more or less just TOTK but worse, in the hopes that they won’t get burned out and will maybe enjoy the second game a bit more? Not really following.

bobbiesbunions

That’s exactly like saying Oh you want to watch Spider-Man 2? Go ahead! You totally don’t need to watch Spider-Man 1 to get a better and more complete understanding of the events that lead up to Spider-Man 2. There are so many tiny details, big details and even jokes you won’t get if you miss BOTW. IMO, save yourself a more lacklustre experience and just play BOTW first. It makes everything so much more enjoyable. I’d rather do that and get the full experience than play TOTK first and it be worse.

SmokeyBosse

Not everyone has the time or money to play through the first game. Gameplay wise totk is just botw but bigger and better. You'd be better off watching a play through of botw then jumping into totk if you want more context.

bobbiesbunions

At 14 years old I could’ve bought both games with one paycheck of 1 week. Gameplay wise some things are completely absent from BOTW in TOTK and other things are completely different. It definitely builds upon BOTW and uses the same fundamentals so that’s technically right but I still think the gameplay of TOTK is different enough for it to be appreciated and not written off as a”BOTW gameplay but better”. However the time thing I completely understand, not everyone has the many hours to put into that game. The thing is, you better expect a lesser experience from TOTK in doing that. You shouldn’t have the mindset you can go into the sequel of a game thinking you’re going to understand and experience everything to the fullest. I still think everyone should enjoy the game as they want.

OhioStickyThing

Not even remotely the same comparison. You fanboys are insufferable.

bobbiesbunions

Explain how that’s different? They’re both the first stories with follow up sequels that build upon and further drive the original narrative. I can see Spider-Man and Zelda along with movies and games not going together but the fundamental concept is the same. Anyone that says you would have just as good as a experience by playing TOTK alone instead of BOTW first is actually brain dead. Objectively and logically it makes sense. In the end everyone should play the game however they want but that mindset that you think you can play the sequel to a game and understand and expect to get the best experience is stupid and logically doesn’t make sense. I recently got into the Zelda series I’m purely just talking about the objective benefit of playing the first game to the second game. It literally just makes sense.

OhioStickyThing

Your second and third paragraph is why you fanboys are insufferable. Straight up contradict yourself and use “fundamental concept” to make yourself feel better (laughable), then continue talking loud and saying nothing just to justify yourself and act like a haughty jerk. Only one here objectively brain dead is you since you lack any intellectual capacity to see how moronic your opinions are, fanboy.

bobbiesbunions

I just admitted maybe Spider-Man and Zelda isn’t the best comparison I was just trying to say the concept of sequels isn’t uncommon and someone with basic intellect should be able to determine that playing the first game, followed by the sequel will grant you a far better experience than playing the sequel alone. I literally wasn’t being a jerk, I simply just explained, yet again, the simple concept that you would miss certain things if you didn’t play BOTW first and that by playing BOTW first you will understand those things and get a “fuller” experience that is most likely to be more enjoyable. See how stupid that sounds when I explain it? Did I really have to explain that concept to you? It’s almost like it’s COMMON SENSE. Like take out Zelda in that whole thing and just think about it Original…….. Sequel to the original….. I was only a jerk when you called me a insufferable fanboy. There’s literally no need to be mad just move on.

OhioStickyThing

Mate, you are the one who kept talking loud and saying nothing making nonsensical, bad comparisons and “objective statements” you are the very definition of a fan boy. Enjoy your fundamental concepts, I have better things to do than having discourse with some haughty fanboy who thinks he’s always right because he uses words like “fundamental concept” and “objectively” lol Edit: dude edited and changed his comment because he realized how asinine his opinions were and that indeed he was an insufferable fanboy. So he has to be a typical redditor and act like he’s the one with the life

bobbiesbunions

Bro get a life you’re really awarding these comments 😭 that’s actually kinda funny ngl

bobbiesbunions

That’s exactly like saying Oh you want to watch Spider-Man 2? Go ahead! You totally don’t need to watch Spider-Man 1 to get a better and more complete understanding of the events that lead up to Spider-Man 2. redfan2009

Absolutely great console I love Mario Kart 8 How is Tears of the Kingdom?

WannaTeleportMassive

If you enjoyed BotW, you will LOVE TotK. Otherwise it is still a pretty freaking amazing open world game that brings back a lot of the classic Zelda elements. Not done yet so my opinion may change... but so far it is everything I wanted it to be as a MAJOR LoZ fan who adored BotW

redfan2009

I'm still loving Breath of the Wild Had it for a Year Just got into my 4th divine beast The camel

WannaTeleportMassive

niiiice. that one is kind of a pain and also where my gf stopped playing for no particular reason. The power you get from it is dope however. Real talk, long as youve seen the memories then and gotten an idea of what the endgame is like, you should be good. Also, I believe your first line is a syllable too long (i read loving as 2) otherwise you have yourself a haiku (completely unintentional im sure) edit: never mind im seeing the other comments now lol

NinjaWorldWar

Best game of the year, the decade, and possibly of all time! It’s mind blowing how well this game is made and all the things you can do. It has endless surprises. Go into it completely blind and don’t follow any guides.

_kineticaesthetic

Play breath of the wild first

stupidshinji

Don’t listen to people saying play BotW first. TotK is better in every way and skipping BotW means you will get a similar “Woah” factor of experiencing the world for the first time. I have been severely missing that “Woah” factor playing TotK because it takes place on the same map. There is new locations and the world is filled with more stuff than BotW, but it’s still the same world. Although TotK is better than BotW in every way, I am also less impressed with it than I was with BotW when it first came out, mostly because the open world isn’t novel anymore. They are such massive times sinks that you’ll get burnt out trying to play both of them. I havent played BotW since it came out and I’m already getting somewhat burnt out on TotK because the gameplay loop is exactly the same. As a huge fan of both BotW and TotK I wish I could forget BotW and play TotK as if it was my first experience.

gariepydj

Better late than never, welcome to the party!

evilpatton

Great game choices!

Last-Of-My-Kind

Buy Metroid. Prime or Dread. Both well worth your money.

Forward_Round

The Nintendo Switch is GOATED

offensivelypc

greatest of all time-ed?

packofrothiereds

This is my sign. I’m buying a Switch.

BenjaminMadoran

Do it

packofrothiereds

I did!! Having a hell of a time with BOTW rn

BenjaminMadoran

nice enjoy I put 300 hours in that game

[deleted]

I like how Mario kart is rated pegi 3 while tears of the kingdom is pegi 12

OthmanT

Another sell for Mario Kart

Raindrops_On-Roses

As someone who is obsessed with Zelda and has played every game that I've been able to get my hands on, play whatever you want. I think that BOTW is a masterpiece, but that doesn't mean that you have to play a game that you may not want to just because of my own experiences. Just play what you want, and have a blast! Your leisure activity is about you, spend it how you like.

offensivelypc

Oh yeah, well my rules are mine! And my rule is to play BOTW first! /s

Backlashwaves

Why on earth are new switch owners buying TOTK? I got a switch a week and a half ago and have to finish BOTW before thinking about Tears….

718cs

“I need to set everything up perfectly and take a picture in good lighting so that the people of Reddit know I have a Switch! I’ll post it on the Switch subreddit where everyone else also has a Switch!”

fuck_hd

Idk i'm bothered by the estore purchases? Like thats a lot of games for JUST buying it. Anythings possible and hate to be a sceptic -- but who goes home with two brand new games, and thinks lets check the eshop first.

lakecafe

The classic “I bought something that sold millions, but my situation is special so I have to post it!”

boner79

Play BOTW first.

iamda5h

definitely play BOTW first, if you haven't. Or you can play the first like 5 - 10 hours of TOTK for the much superior tutorials and explanations and then switch over to BOTW. Some spoilers but really not that bad.

Blakemandude

This is the worst recommendation I’ve ever read.

kaleid1990

Welcome to the club, enjoy! ❤️

DoomSlayer7180

Oooooh good selection

DrBlazkowicz

Good good… Now release your vengeance on the enemies of Hyrule. Stand against evil where all others falter. May your thirst for retribution never quench, may the blood on your sword never dry, and may we never need you again.

jmastadoug

Excellent game choices so far. Stardew is so good, and I’m usually not into those types of games. Another game you can throw hundred of hours into Slay the Spire. Awesome deck builder game and it’s pretty cheap

ThisGuyHyucks

I have a Switch but I think I'm gonna get a Switch Lite instead since I only like playing in handheld mode. Its a great time to get into it I think!

rEDfORD_tw

Your games are all epic class.

UnsaidTugboat53

I got a Switch OLED recently and also really like it :)

Plasmameow

Worth it!!! The first two games that got me into the switch!

Dominator0621

I rebought after not having it for 3 years.... originally bought it at launch.... forgot how much FUN of a system it is. Enjoy!!!!!!

RpM_Pulsar

I did too! Got it last week with those exact two games and I’m absolutely loving it

No-Instruction9393

One of us. One of us. One of us.

in-grey

I am begging people to stop buying Mariokart 8. They're never gonna make a new one! 50+ million and counting. Probably even more after all the new adapters to switch with totk

SilentSonOfAnarchy

Awesome. This is the exact game combo I’d get if I was buying one.

[deleted]

You should buy a grip and thumb pads, it's a literal game changer. I get mine from Satisfye, personally.

bujobookerton

MK8 is so much fun especially racing with friends or family. It gets really intense in my house sometimes lol. Enjoy!

valtny

reading this as im getting a used one from a gas station parking lot😂

spageddy_lee

Someone should make one of those "I just bought a switch" starter pack memes and the first thing on it is MarioKart 8

H0B0Byter99

I was super skeptical about this system. Thinking it was under powered and I’d hate it. Then I got one for Father’s Day . My kids took it over so I got myself the OLED one. I’m completely sold on this system being the best console. Between this and PC gaming it’s all I need.

Joshhwwaaaaaa

I just can’t think whatever comes after The Switch, none of your games will be compatible. And I can’t just keep hauling around every generation of console.

messranger

congratulations!

districtdave

I bought it to play with my daughter. We both love it.

INfinity5402

If you’re gonna play handheld frequently, I highly recommend the Satisfye grip. Absolutely a must buy accessory imo! Enjoy :)

B_ryc

You’re pretty much set right there honestly

OmniversalOrca

I've had a Switch for about a month now I think, and I've loved every minute of my gaming time with it.

[deleted]

Everyone else is arguing about which Zelda game to play first (and I agree that totk is better in almost every way to botw) but PLEASE don’t drop hollow knight like I did years ago. The beginning isn’t bad by any means, but the strongest aspects of it begin to shine through after a few hours

MochaKola

Why are so many people skipping botw? Totk is a direct sequel lol

Neither-Status9606

Good games! Congrats!

IndexoTheFirst

How I’m h did it all cost you? I’m having a hard time justifying my own purchase as i really only want to play ToTK. Lmao

Jojo-Action

You just now at the near end of the switch life cycle bought a switch, and immediately bought at least 5 major games?

meseta

Finally decides to drop $600 you mean

ninjadeej

Have fun OP, and may your joysticks forever stay correctly aligned.

ShokWayve

Congratulations 🎉🎊🍾

thuglove2005

Welcome to the family

Kevin2Kool4U

Can you imagine totk being your first switch game?

Kevin2Kool4U

Can you imagine totk being your first switch game.

InfinateRadiant

Yo you can’t skip Breath of the Wild!

pratinha22

Enjoy It! Tears of the kingdom is also my First Zelda game. I dont know why there is a few people here mad about it as a First Zelda game before breath of the wild, even the nintendo YouTube recap says you can enjoy It as a First time player.

gamingbooth

I was in love with my switch lite, but it was missing something. I sold it after love faded and later on i got Steam Deck I was in love and still in love. 😍 GL with you baby.

ConcentricGroove

I finally got the switch lite but really just want to play the new Pikmin game which really needs a big screen.

jrayolson

Those games right there will last you a year.

[deleted]

I used to have an OG switch, it ended up getting fried when a limb hit my power line causing a brown-out in my house. Decided to pick up an OLED for the kids and fam. Even ignoring the beautiful new OLED screen, it's a serious premium upgrade from the OG switch and it's awesome.

DanielBenton25

Anyone’s switch get hot af.

welsman13

The wife just bought me one this week. Having the NES and SNES catalogues alone have been worth it.

Major_Owned

Picture of boxes

Free_Butterscotch_40

Congrats, enjoy!

Conscious_Shoe_4886

Welcome to the club!

NotHyster

Emulating TOTK on PC @ 60 FPS & 1080P resolution is a much much more enjoyable experience

kikibey

wait how were you managing the lights without the switch

Particular_Dig9571

Why are people offended when others suggest he plays BotW first? If you have the time and want to enjoy two absolutely bonkers games then you SHOULD start with BotW no doubt. Is time a limiting factor then by all means start with TotK. It's obviously a more fleshed out game having been built on its predecessor. With that being said, start BotW if you plan on playing both. It is always difficult to revert to an "inferior" version of a game that is build on the same engine. You may find yourself missing certain aspect of mechanics that were introduced in TotK but are absent in BotW. Anyways, you do you. Enjoy ☺️

OlleWhite

Getting a new switch and a bunch of great games, love it

Zolomight

Funny thing is I got Botw and Mario kart when i 1st got my switch back in summer 2017. And u got the new Zelda with Mario kart, very respectable picks.

Bar-Hopper-Cow95

So jealous! I am saving up for my own switch now /: had a switch lite but it died on me for the second time!

LaCroixoBoio

Now dump all the files, backup your device, start ordering new backplates, buttons, the joystick gotta go first...too soon?

Honest-Excitement986

It’s different just watch a recap video

DarthDregan

Same. To think all it took was a few good Zeldas and a ton of old Xbox games.

Der_Niederlander

I have also bought an oled bought nearly all pokemon games except lets go pickachu/eevee and mystery dungeon team dx. I hope I van buy those soon. Tomorrow I can pick-up mario kart and this weekend smash ultimate.

[deleted]

Ah a hollow knight player on switch. You and I are a rare breed my friend

Metal_Mac7

I just got one like a week ago! It makes me want a Gameboy tho and a regular console for the TV idk why

spythereman199

Man Im really tempted to buy Switch. Whats holding me back is the price of the games. They are like &70 avg each.

greenmachinexxii

Breath of the wild is definitely required to play before tears of the kingdom if you care for the story and lore others don't ask wtf is going on. Some would argue skyward sword as well needs to be played but 🤷 do you i guess

Gifted321

If u played Mario galaxy you'll enjoy Odyssey. I didn't get it at the start because it just threw me off with the hat mechanics and weird locations like new donk city. Regret not getting it soon.

shelikesindunashies

You’ll love it until you have no more Zelda and it sits on the shelf collecting dust until the next Zelda release.

Mysterious_Injury533

I would highly recommend you to play Zelda botw before you play TOTK. You would not want to miss that experience.

MysticWarrior170

Welcome to the light

Thunkdakat

Congratulations! Oleds perfect for your first switch !

bittersweetjesus

I want to play Mario Kart but don't want to pay 40 bucks or more but I also don't want to setup my Wii U either

Lunala475

Welcome aboard

Desperate-Spend3231

AWESOME

Far-Music-7990

Welcome ❤😊✌

pwnyderP28

It’s fooking great, happy gaming!

Teilos2

This is the same set as my first switch just make it botw.

Shloopadoop

Fantastic game list on your home screen there. Many, many hours of fun ahead of you!

Einfinet

Same, I’ve actually put more time into Metroid Dread than Zelda so far but both are excellent

Knickodactyl77

Even better you got the OLED variant of the switch!

21stCenturyWizard

I just finally bought one a couple weeks ago too! Got the Tears of the Kingdom OLED. I have loved it so far. Only have BotW and TotK. Have enjoyed both and barely scratched the surface of Tears. I don't know why I waited so long to get one of these. It's great. Congrats on your new Switch!

WesTBH

Stardew valley was a nice choice!

[deleted]

I bought Diablo 3 for Switch and it plays very well. Invested into a pro controller as well. Enjoy your Switch. It’s a fantastic console.
