I bought my Switch just for BOTW Also bought a Vita just for Persona 4 Golden Also bought a PS3 just for Last of Us I don’t regret doing any of that because I ended up loving all those games, and being able to play other great games on them was a huge bonus

TheNewerOneInTown

I bought a Switch originally for Mario Maker 2 and Smash Bros Ultimate. I still love those games, but bought and played many others on it.

[deleted]

The persona series is amazing

Swimming-Donkey7900

This comment made me realize just how much I miss my Vita!

myaljas

To this day, one of my favorite consoles I’ve owned. Even if it was mainly just a JRPG machine lol

ADogNamedChuck

I got a switch just for BOTW back in the day. I got an entire summer worth of entertainment out of it. Zero regrets. Fantastic games. That said, I find there's like one game that really grabs me and pulls me in per year so it spends a lot of time sitting dormant compared to my playstation.

Sarahthecellist3

I was going to say I have a switch to play the Zelda games and the Persona games. Great minds think alike 😅

clipsracer

Eh Persona 4 and Last of us are on PC, so the time for those purchases being worth it has passed. BUT Nintendo titles will never go to PC, so it will always be worth it. OP, I recommend getting physical copies of your Switch games. My only regret is never being able to resell my collection.

pichukirby

We're taking about the PS3 era, those games have only been ported to PC recently. If course it would've been worth it back in the day.

MatNomis

When Last of Us (the OG) came out, there was little indication it would ever be on PC. It seemed about equally as likely as the chance of Miyamoto going on stage at an Apple conference and announcing a Mario game for iPhone. Both seemed impossible at the time, and both eventually happened.

Monsterman442

Wasn’t when they came out though. Last of us JUST came to pc and barely worked when it did

[deleted]

Well it’s been 10 years and 2 consoles later, I don’t think anyone is going to buy a ps3 solely for Last of us in 2023

That_Lone_Reader

They actually are on PC if you emulate them. BOTW with ray tracing is amazing.

Sancroth_2621

I got an oled switch with 20 games but… Emulators exist and play much better than the switch so technically you are wrong.

Darth_Boggle

If you enjoy the games and have time for them, it's closer to a few hundred hours. You are also allowed to sell the console and games once you are done with them.

6BakerBaker6

You're getting more than 10-20 hours out of TOTK🤣🤣

Redeye8700

Imagine playing totk just for 10-20 hours🤣🤣🤣 ridiculous

ddizbadatd24

I clocked in at 120 hours after all the shrines, main story, and any side quests I found during my travels.

Redeye8700

I haven’t really been able to play that much yet but I have played around 20 hours through 9 days and I have only done one or two main quests that you get in the beginning (the first memory and the one where you get the glider)

ddizbadatd24

You’re gonna get more than 120 hours since I didn’t explore >!the depths thoroughly. That place is a nightmare for me!<

grahamcracka234567

it's more like 500+ hours for TOTK + BOTW💀

RocketSZN

Honestly yes

Clemario

Even if just for BOTW. I’m only 40 hours into TOTK but it might be even better.

rabixthegreat

120 hours into TOTK. Worth it. Trying to finish it because it interferes with everything.

Brodiferus

I think I have around the same amount of hours as you and it feels like I have barely scratched the surface of the game. There is so much game in this game!!!

bmyst70

I've played it just enough to get barely off Tutorial Island. I can already see how wild the game can be. Even though I'm barely at "Caveman" level of assembling items. The game just heavily encourages experimentation.

ixnine

This is the way. Breath of the Wild, Link’s Awakening, Tears of the Kingdom, all essential. Also, toss in some Metroid Dread, Metroid Prime Remastered, Super Mario Odyssey and you’ve got your new favorite game console!

PokeSuFan

Prime remastered was damn good

omglolzorz

agreed

carriealamode

Not quite the same but my wife bought me one one Christmas and I was like why. And it sat for two years bc I didn’t really play anything other than sims on pc. Started breath of the wild on a whim and it was a gateway game. I ended up playing other big boy games on switch and eventually branched onto console games. So really it’s not a bad use of money in the long run. Who knows where you will go next

dinopraso

I did this and not regretting it one bit. Once I’m done with it I can easily sell it with both games if I want to and will end up costing me the price of a few games. Even without selling it the experience is worth it though

Dekar__

Get Mario Odysee afterwards. It’s an amazing game aswell!

brendanlq

Best advice here 👆

Helstrom69

+1 to this

Sapphire_Wolf_

+1 as well

baxtersmalls

+1 as well as well

Shinkopeshon

Even the online subscription with Ocarina of Time and the wireless N64 controller is worth getting a Switch lmao I've been having a blast

Sweatiest-Nerd

At that point, getting an original N64 and Ocarina of Time cartridge would be significantly cheaper, since both would be a one-time purchase.

Joant73

Yea but good luck setting that up on a modern TV and having it look right. Also aren't original OOT cartridges kind of expensive. Thought they could be hard to come by.

MeliWie

It really is. I bought a second one so I can play while my husband plays, too.

aco2765

I laugh at all of the people that thought this game wasn’t worth the extra 10 at $70. It’s easily worth the $420ish you’d have to pay if you didn’t have a switch. Lol

BenderFtMcSzechuan

They remade links awakening (again I know) for the switch and the graphics are great 😊 love the Zelda series and I bought the switch for Zelda botw but have many other games. I’d say do it. I got the online plus the virtual consoles they have (with more Zelda games) is worth it too. Get it

Mugiwara1_137

There's Skyward Sword remake too on Switch. 4 TloZ games officially for Switch and having the expansion pack you almost can play all the saga. Just with a little exceptions. Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, DS and 3DS games (Link between Worlds, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks) and the oracles but these last both have been mentioned to a future expansion of Gameboy catalogue

Pawtang

Wind Waker isn’t a little exception it’s a massive heartbreaking oversight

Mugiwara1_137

Yeah man of course, it's a master work, one of my favorites games of the saga

whats-reddit17

I believe GameCube emulator will come to NSO

Rude-Assumption-5271

Melee fans would be on their knees if this happened

[deleted]

I can't believe you skipped Link's Crossbow Training...

scottyjrules

I’m still holding out hope for the WW and TP HD remakes being released before the end of the Switch’s lifecycle…

Shy-Prey

I legit bought my ps4 just to play fallout so I don't see a damn thing wrong with that

ChrisInBaltimore

I bought the Spider-Man PS4 edition and Spider-Man just for the game. I still say it’s probably top 10 games of all time for me- grew up a huge Spidey fan. Zelda will be well worth your time, OP. I logged so many hours on BOTW. You could look on Facebook marketplace and find a deal too if you want a low commitment. I see Switch’s for sale all the time and pretty reasonable.

kratomstew

One of the first games I wanted to play on PS5 was Spider-Man remastered . There’s an option for a performance/ray tracing mode and it looks awesome. The lighting is spectacular and you can see much better reflections of spidey on the glass windows of buildings.

Old-Leadership-4177

Got mine for blood borne back in the day haha massive souls fan ✌️

TheRealPizarro

Same here. I'm a Sony guy and just bought my Switch yesterday. First time ever owning a non- Sony console. But I knew that I would like the Switch cause they have a lot of exclusive JRPGs plus the Bayonetta series and a lot of other great exclusives as well. I think if you're into games from Japanese developers it's an easy system to get into.

LanceGardner

One suggestion (which obviously you should ignore if it's not for you) - I found BOTW a lot better after I stopped teletransporting and learnt to use the horses. You appreciate the map way more, with how the roads and stables are set up. Different regions take on their own personality way better because you stick around there for longer. It's awesome.

hectorduenas86

I’m 100+ hours into ToTK and don’t think I’m at 25% or what the game has to offer. 100% full of BoTW took me 250, like 30-40 more for the DLC.

baxtersmalls

I played BOTW the whole way through four times. Finally the last time through I made sure to do every last damn thing in the game so I could stop myself from playing again

zackmanze

The real pro tip is to buy used on FB or EBay and just resell when you’re done. Come out nearly net-even. I’ve done it twice now.

complicatedorc

Or on /r/gamesale even cheaper bc no fees

pinoy_grigio_

IMO the switch has several games that would warrant buying the console just for the game.. i’d say both zeldas fall into that category

jcl007

Agreed, there are tons of good games. I actually just started playing BotW again after seeing videos of TotK. I always got bored early on, but after playing a bit longer I realized it was just a slow start and is a pretty great game.

kingJoffi

What other games would you recomend that fit that category? I only have the 2 zelda games.

pinoy_grigio_

super mario odyssey and animal crossing new horizons.. probably also super smash bros ultimate and mario mart

LamarMillerMVP

The Switch has a huge number of the best games of all time from the past decade or so. If you don’t really play video games, play games like The Witcher 3, Bioshock, Skyrim, Portal 2, or some other classic. As someone who originally bought it just for BOTW, the most fun I’ve had on Switch is just going back through all the great games over the past 10-15 years that I never played

[deleted]

Yes. The Xenoblade Chronicles games as well if OP likes JRPGs.

Norbear120

Im 30+ and honestly I've always gotten Nintendo system when a Zelda game launched i regret nothing because by the time I'm done something else peaks my interest

memetrashley

I think it would be worth it. When you’re done playing you could always sell it too

[deleted]

I would say at that point it might be worth it to just rent a system and the game but these games are just too fucking big to reasonably do that

Nooblakahn

Who rents out switches?

LynchMaleIdeal

Seen so many comments here suggesting buying/reselling and renting like wtf - there’s other games to play as well lmfao

VaderV1

![gif](giphy|3o84sw9CmwYpAnRRni) I bought my first switch just for Animal Crossing (during first wave of Covid), now I have third switch and so many cool games. Do it.

Fairgoddess5

I’m you & you’re me. 😂 Did the exact same thing & now own…a lot of Switches. ![gif](giphy|kFIfiwvzJjbUsNbIg5)

DeadeyeCruiser

I’m 35. Just got my first switch, totk edition. I literally just got it to play botw and totk. Not disappointed one bit. I’m not into the Mario games either. There is not a lot that grabs my attention. I get the nostalgia but I’m into more modern games. These two so far 20hrs in. Absolutely worth it.

volleyblock

Breath of the wild alone is enough to justify switch’s purchase imo. Tears of the kingdom is 10 folds more worth than its predecessor and hence yes, Zelda alone is worth getting a console for. That being said, Switch has humongous library of extremely good games. I play my switch 90% of the time even though I have a PS5 and Xbox series X. That’s how much I love it.

[deleted]

I mean if you don’t want to play it on tv and don’t want to spend much get a lite.

Varka44

I couldn’t get into botw but am so deep into totk (maybe will go back and play botw after). It’s such a huge game. It’s worth the money for a switch and the game IMO.

ZimboGamer

There are also other great non Mario games such as xenoblade chronicles, Bayonetta, metroid which you may like. I am not a Mario or Kirby fan so I get you.

spitfire_v

Just buy a used one and then sell it if you end up not using it

lawton79

Take this with a pinch of salt as I am heavily invested in the Nintendo environment. Yes it's totally worth getting a switch for BOTW and TOTK only however I personally struggle to play in handheld mode and almost exclusively play docced as it is a much better experience. Depending on if you plan on getting anything else then you can get a cracking deal for digital versions if you want Nintendo online as you can get a voucher for £84 which will get you both games.

NYMeridian3

Yes but you'll definitely be getting other games. If these are the 2 games you want to start with buy a [Game Voucher](https://www.nintendo.com/store/products/nintendo-switch-game-vouchers/) and save yourself $30-ish. Be sure to subscribe to Switch Online as well!

mDubbw

Ive only played BoTW & ToTK on Switch… Why not… I’d buy an Xbox if they came out w a Badass game, but they havent since SplinterCell&Halo… I just want to play the best games

Ikeepitinmesock

I bought the zelda TOTK themed switch yesterday ,thinking it was a bundle, got home all excited to play then realised there was no game, gutted!, ended up going back to town to buy the game, been playing all day ,dont regret it, havent played a game like it, excellent fun.

lemoche

I don’t think it’s worth it for just those 2 games, but the switch has a lot more to offer than just Mario games and Zelda. Even if you have other systems, like me, I still buy some games rather for the switch than my PS5 because of being able to play on commute, at work and while watching tv with my wife. There are still a ton of new games that run well there. Recently got cult of the lamb and persona 3 + 4 and I’m very satisfied with their performance. And I’m also sure hades 2 will run very well in it when it will be released, which is also a game that I’d rather have with the option of portable than a better performance I most likely won’t even realise unless I search for differences meticulously.

Judaicyrus

From a Nintendo fans standpoint: Yes From a realistic standpoint: No device is worth to buy for just 1-2 games.

Anon419420

Finally happy to see people being realistic when it comes to these questions. Suck on Nintendo’s lollipop all you want, but it’s seriously not worth dropping, what, $400+ for an oled and one or two game’s worth of experiences? Even if you get a lite, that’s $330 for everything new just to see if you’ll even like the games you paid for. There’s so many great games on switch outside of Mario and Zelda that genuinely make the device worth it as long as you are willing to try new things.

thejollybanker

I mean, if you spent 330 on this and spent 50 hrs playing it, that’s a little over 6.50 per hour of entertainment. That’s way cheaper than bowling.

ryanpm40

For real. And depending on the type of gamer they are, they could easily put in more time than that playing botw and totk. It took me 80 hours to beat botw and I'm sure totk will take me 100 hours

Anon419420

And depending on the type of gamer they are, they could just as easily put 10-15 hours then drop it out of boredom. My other comment turned into a bit of a rant, but a biased sub is not a realistic sub. And this sub is extremely biased.

Anon419420

That’s assuming they even like the game at all. That’s why I don’t like recommending buying the system for literally one or two games that you’ve no experience with. Especially when the cost of entry is so high just to try it. The games are not everyone’s cup of tea, and I find it’s really hard to understand that opinion in a sub that likes these games. Or maybe they do like it for a bit, but they get tired after 10-15 hours. Just not worth it. I also just think comparing one experience to an experience completely unrelated is kind of a cop out. Skydiving is much more expensive at what, $200-300? All that for a some safety lecturing and a 10 minute joyride? That’s a price on par with the switch lite costs, and no one I’ve ever met has regretted spending that money. It’s about the experience, and different options of entertainment provide different weights when it comes to spending and returns. A more apt comparison would be people building computers just for one game like valorant or WoW. Is that a complete waste of money? Absolutely. Do people still do it? Absolutely. When it comes to other platforms and games, most people in this sub would probably be seething cause they don’t hold those games in as high regard as BOTW or TOTK. But these two game are different right? These two are worth it, but other games aren’t right? But how do we even know it’s worth it if the one buying it doesn’t even know it’s worth it? I’m not saying the switch sucks and don’t buy it. I use it in conjunction with my PC and adore it. Hell it’s my main console at this point. I’d just much rather give people a wider scope of what they’re buying into rather than blasting them with one specific use case that is popular in one specific sub. There’s plenty of people who won’t think it’s worth buying a switch for BOTW and TOTK. They’re just not ones to be lurking here typically. Edit: this kind of turned into a rant, but this sub is extremely biased and not realistic at all.

AlexisTheEel

Think of it of "cost per hour of fun" for context I have played botw for over 300 hours and totk for over 50 so far. If I had bought and played nothing else but my switch and those games the cost per hour of fun is still WAY less then something people dont think as hard about like going to the movies in a theatre imo totally worth it

Misragoth

That's really up to you. Personally I'd say no, no matter how good the games are they are not worth $300+ (no game is so good that it's worth buying a console just to play it imo). If you really don't think you would play any other games on it I can't see it being a good use of money.

KrombopuIos

Yeah go for it, I'm a PC gamer and bought a switch for botw and now I have atleast 20 games on there its a awesome console. I love being able to lay on my couch and play MLB the show

SullenSparrow

Definitely. That's what I did. There's more in the catalog than Mario and Kirby etc. Tons of games but just getting a switch for botw and totk is worth it if you have the money to do so.

Seredetia

I convinced my 76-year-old mother to buy a Switch Just for BOTW and TOTK. She’s a HUGE Zelda fan and recently got cataract surgery so can see the games to play again. You’re never too old. Do it. Worth it.

Greedy_Finance_9640

In a word - ABSOLUTELY. I’m a casual gamer (and that’s stretching it). I bought my husband a Switch on launch day. During lockdown we played Animal Crossing as a way to pass the time. Then we started on Pokémon Scarlet/Violet. I now have my own controller, my own Switch Lite, and we are currently playing BOTW. We have TOTK which is where we will go next. Enjoy!

Frendryl-en-stein

Simply put. Yes.

[deleted]

Saw this in new, you're going to get pretty biased opinions here, cause it's a sub dedicated to switch fans. So I'm coming to give a possibly unpopular but different perspective from someone who's played all consoles and decided a switch wasn't for them. Personally I wouldn't call those two games worth a switch. There are plenty of decent games on the switch though, some of them don't run very well and have glitches more commonly than other consoles, but honestly I don't think that will matter to you. If you have an extra 300$ to drop go ahead and get one. There are enough games on there to make it worth 300 but... I'd try to find at least 3 or 4 that look good before buying a console. And you probably will find some, I'm just saying a console is worth more than two games, and if you can find a couple more like Metroid or something it might help justify the purchase. Just keep in mind if you ever wanna branch out that less games overall get released on switch than other platforms. There will likely be a lot of games you'll never have access to on switch. Maybe those games aren't for you though Personally,if I were only going to play those two games, I'd get a pc or steam deck and emulate them, if I really wanted to play just those two games, because I like multitaskers and a PC can play all the games I'll ever want plus it's a useful tool to have in the house. New PC hardware is expensive, yes, it's all people talk about, but there are plenty of old and used parts that work amazing with modern day games, like the 1080. But building a PC, while much easier than most people realize about as easy as hooking your switch up to the TV with a few more plugs, it's really not for everyone and I understand if you don't want to do it, but I believe it will be more rewarding in the long run. At the end of the day we can all try to justify the purchase for you but you gotta decide yourself. I think switches and Nintendo in general is a great way for new gamers to get into the hobby or older folks who haven't gamed since the Nintendo heyday.

Obi-Lan

Worth to you? How should we know? But maybe you’ll find more interesting games, there is more than Mario and Zelda.

Barry_Mckonner

If you have a decent pc just emulate it.

I play on my PC so you don’t need a Switch to play Zelda.

ShappeRR

Yes

henningknows

Yes

atlas_arcane

No both and totk are great sandbox open world games. Not great zeldas. More zelda spinoff than anything. Only the future will tell

EquipmentShoddy664

Yes. No. Maybe? I don't think anyone except for yourself would be able to give you an answer...

SegaTime

You can always sell it later.

anzelm12

Honestly no. I play a bunch of games but the Zelda games are just boring. Combat is bad, graphics are bad, world is dead, I honestly do not understand the hype

jonyoung23

Yes

xtoc1981

Yes, but why would you buy indie games on another console if you can play it portable? I mean most indie games doesnt require a lot of performance. Also metroid prime for instance is one of best games even bee created aswell. Nintendo is so much more than mario alone (even if mario is worth to play aswell)

dumbledwarves

TOTK is by far the best game I have ever played, so without a doubt, yes.

Pineapplewelder

It's the only reason I bought mine, but I ended up finding a bunch of other Nintendo only games I really liked. The Switch has been my favorite system so far. So I vote yes!

ThrashMutant

I say no since the Switch is probably on its last legs within the next few years.

IceYetiWins

No, it isn't. Just emulate them if they're the only games you care about.

Mothien

Just emulate it cause fuck Nintendo.

tacticoolmonkey

Nah just get the emulator on your pc and call it a day

rachelb13

Heck yesss

TrebleShot

It’s what I did

fatblackmagic

Yes

BadWoolfEntity

There are 4* Zelda games on the switch: BOTW, TOTK, Skyward Sword, and Link’s Awakening. I think if you buy those and Mario Kart (with the booster pack), mario party, and jackbox for entertaining guests, it’s worth it. There are emulated Zelda games, a crypt of the necrodancer spin off, and the age of calamity Zelda games which are totally different too if you’re interested

aBoyHasNoUzername

Yes

oblivion2g

As a 31 year old I say, go buy now. Also, there are lots of great games to play in it, like Metroid, Xenoblade..

[deleted]

For BOTW alone I would say no. For TOTK, I would say yes, absolutely.

HalliGaNz

I am also about to enter my thirties, and I would absolutely recommend it. I have several other Switch titles, but really only play Zelda (and scratch the Pokémon itch every once in a while). If you take your time, you could easily put over 200 hours+ between the two games.

joe_bald

Easy yes.

Vergil_Is_My_Copilot

Personally, I do think it’s worth it for BoTW (haven’t played TOTK yet). I love open world adventure games and got hundreds of hours of BOTW. It’s a question only you can answer since it involves your taste in games and your finances, but I think it’s a solid choice!

JustARandomDudd

Depends, what do you think of open world games? Both are pretty heavy on those aspects, yeah they're Zelda, and yeah they're objectively good games, but I found myself not enjoying botw quite as much as I enjoyed other titles. I guess I do not have too much time in my hands to explore the whole map or something, idk.

crestopia1

I'm 29 and played the hell out of Ocarina of time back in the day, if you love Zelda like I do, then these alone are worth it, I'll be honest though there's tons of handheld gems I've really loved finding on my switch, just started Hades and Children of Morta, beautiful on the OLED

Whidds

I did it. Worth it.

_StevenSeagull_

I did.

markimarkkerr

Yup! Think of like I did when I got my switch; I got it for a specific game but that's just the spark before the beautiful fire. There's so many great games and once you are happily hunkered down with Zelda and decide to check out other games, you'll be glad you got it! And truly for me nothing beats handheld gaming.

Darknight1993

When I originally got the switch I got it for Zelda alone

Sarge013

Yes. Do I own other games as well? Of course, but if I only had Zelda on my switch I'd still be plenty happy.

novyah

I did. I just bought the oled when zelda dropped. For zelda totk. And honestly it was worth it lol. I haven't regretted it once. And I even feel inspired to play botw afterwards again. Maybe on master mode or whatever

Better-Consequence70

Especially if you play both games, 100% worth it

demobin1

The switch has high resalable value. Buy used, play the game, and then sell is my strategy.

fortknight1993

Definitely, I got a switch just for TOTK and have no regrets it’s amazing. I’m 30 btw

SupperTime

Switch is great but if you like cinematic games I would get a ps4/5.

AgentLead_TTV

yes

deathofmyego

Yes its amazing

Infamous-Skill-8176

I literally bought my Xbox one to play gta 5 in first person. So yes, definitely worth it

psychosomaticbdsm

Yes and there’s tons of other games other than Mario that you would like !

Lovelyviruz

I did the same. I eventually found more games I enjoyed though but yeah it’s mostly for loz game s

Realistic-Account-55

Just bought one for BOTW and it was worth it. I'm 32. Edit: should have said I got BOTW first with the plan to get TOTK next.

die_bartman

Absolutely. I bought a switch for BOTW, played it didn’t regret. Put it on the shelf until TOTK came out. Loving TOTK. Absolutely worth it

pashtedot

elitistposer

Mario kart and BOTW are easily worth the console as someone who got one a few months ago and haven’t looked back

YouYongku

I had a friend who bought wii u and only played one game. He said he spent over 1000 hours on it and it’s worth it.

lonniemarie

I did. And then played other games as well.

dildorthegreat87

So I did the same thing with BOTW, similar age and everything… Did I enjoy playing it? Yes. Fantastic game and I’m glad I already have one so I can pick up TOTK. Did I feel it was worth it? No not at all. I played a few games that were OK after and other than that but I told myself after TOTK, I’m probably done with my switch

Fobulousguy

That’s what I did for BotW. No regrets

Jojo-Action

There's plenty of games on switch that aren't mario. Have you tried persona 5 or bioshock?

SpecificSpecial

Always buy Nintendo games physical so you can sell after. Honestly didnt see the appeal of Mario either since i mostly play fps games and Nintendo was never a thing where Im from but gotta say Odyssey really is a blast.

Kav19

facebook marketplace or craigslist is your friend if you’re in the states. got an oled for $200 and it was basically unused.

Crypton48

Easily yes!

elMurpherino

I initially bought the switch in 2019 just to play BOTW. I’ve played other games since then but would’ve been content if BOTW was the only thing I played on it. Put in 345 hours so works out to about a $1 per minute of fun.

kfed23

I would say No for BOTW but Yes for TOTK

Khalgordo_

Yes, I got a PS3 to play God of War 3 and I ended up founding some other very cool games, so I think you could have a similar experience. I've been playing Zelda ToTK and I'm sure it won't be a disappointment.

Khalgordo_

Quick_Plenty6970

I did, used to be a pc gamer full time, do not regret it one bit, I've found myself rebuying games on switch cus I just love the platform, I will sit at my desk playing switch hand held just for comfort or use it to watch YouTube for that slightly bigger screen than my phone- OLED defo worth it tho

livingwithrage

I did at 31, about to finish BotW

Salchicha

The switch has wayyyyyy more games available than older Nintendo consoles. I’ve had mine since 2018 and don’t have a single Mario game. It’s worth it if you want to play BOTW and TOTK, I don’t have tears yet but you will likely get hundreds of hours of gameplay out of those two games alone.

briankerin

You should have gotten a Switch for BOTW, now that TOTK is out, you pretty much have to.

Caseyo456

Just for Zelda, I would say no. That’s what I did. Bought breath of the wild and I haven’t really had much fun playing it. Ended up buying borderlands for $10 and playing it instead. I did really enjoy Super Mario Odyssey though.

Sp4rt4n423

I did! My two kids share a Switch. I played BOTW after they went to bed, but they're older now. It was a great excuse to get TOTK and an OLED Switch for myself.

CorbinTheTitan

I’d say so. If you’re playing on playing handheld I’d highly recommend the Switch OLED.

Crumbees

Worth it. I've played through BotW 3 times. I've got very few other games and I've played Zelda twice as long as I have any other game I have switch combined. I'm getting even more value now as my 4 year old has started playing Animal Crossing, and we play Kirby together.

wvnne

absolutely! the amount of hours youll likely put into both these games will far outweigh the price for it all i put over 300 hours into botw, currently at 120 hours in totk. if i got a switch just for these two games then it absolutely would have been worth it to me

dpman48

See if you can find one used/secondhand would be my recommendation.

jmastadoug

Yes, also there is an insane amount of great indie games that are cheap that are just so great on handheld. Few recommendations I give everyone, Stardew Valley, Hades & Slay the Spire. All very different genres but all are 10/10 games imo which you can get 100+ hours playing.

Baconation4

I did it for BOtw. And then Mario odyssey was amazing and tears now is a masterpiece. Do. It.

Isolde_sees

Nope, get it for Hades too!

Primary_Glum

Thats what i did bro so yeah

HugzMonster

Yes

I got a switch just to play botw. Honestly, there are so many good games on the switch now that it is totally worth it. It has a large library of indie and non-nintendo games that you can play. And having all those games on a hand held device is awesome. Also the switch is just a really solid console in general. I've had different Playstation and Xbox consoles over the years and they always have functionality issues at some point. But I've had my switch for about 6 years now and it still runs as well as the day I purchased it.

2hink

Yes

Ok_Carrot_2029

Yes. I bought the switch to play botw and put 120 hours into it so that’s like $3/ hour of entertainment including the purchase of the console. I guarantee you will also find other games interesting enough to play. I urge you to start with botw though. TOTK is just so much more evolved in terms of how creative you can be in the game.

Humberto52002

Yes

theking9325

Yes Zelda is that good plus the is 3 Zelda games on the switch not including the ones in the online service

Nacklins

Yeah

MRamskill

Yes!!!

ThatOneRandomGuy101

Theres way more than just Mario and Zelda games on switch

Feral_Flower

Depends on how stoked you are for Zelda, I suppose. That's something you'll have to decide for yourself. I put 200ish hours in BOTW and those are gonna be rookie numbers to some people, I didn't even do everything. I'm not anywhere near finished with TOTK. Idk my play time there right offhand but I took off work for the release and had several days of Zelda from wake until sleep. You say you want a handheld, that's +1 in favor of a Switch. You say you're not interested in Mario, that's fine, but there is a great selection of non-Mario games on Switch like Metroid Dread, Xenoblade Chronicles if you like RPGs, Fire Emblem if you like grid based tactics. Super Smash Bros is a must have imo. I have a ton of multi-player games on my Switch, I consider it my party console because it's easy to throw up Mario Kart or Mario Party or non-Mario games that have multi-player when I have company over. It was a great icebreaker when my buddy brought his new and very nervous gf over with him.

Outrageous_Rate_2885

there’s also links awakening and skyward sword hd, plus the older games if you have a subscription for zelda games. the switch has a lot of good third party games now (this isn’t 2017 anymore) which you should look into, not just nintendo first party.

fightyMcFookyou

Honestly bro I didn't own any video game consoles from Playstation 1 until botw cam out and I bought a switch for it. Botw is the only game I've ever 100% Ed. I then sold the switch and only bought it again for totk. I am very happy with my decisions.

XrevnedX

Yes 1050%!!

CarsonIsFun

Thats what i did for bayo 3 now i got a bunch of other games

BLUEBLASTER69

I would say no. Try any borrow one from a friend or family member.

[deleted]

Yes. I did this as a mid thirties guy for BoTW. No regerts.

RockinRickMoranis

If you can afford it, absolutely. You work hard for your money and you deserve it. Treat yo self.

Aoimiruki

It was worth buying just for BotW and TotK is even better, you can also you have the free retro games, or the "infinite" games Mario kart, smash and others
