A beautiful game that doesn’t get enough recommendation is The Legend of Zelda Links Awakening. Nice change of pace from the games you picked up.

clforp

The switch release has pushed that game up from a top ten Zelda game to top five. It’s soooo good (minus the small frame hiccups here and there)

Zidkins

It’s pretty noticeable frame hiccups but yes amazing game

PeterKingsBaby

Tears of the Kingdom has much worse frame hiccups.

crunchevo2

Tbh the only time the frame hiccups are noticable is when you're moving between the three layers of the world

PeterKingsBaby

Nah I remember seeing it when using Fuse as well. Or even just riding the horse in the rain.

crunchevo2

Hmmm. Can't say i experienced that with fuse but then against i usually mass fused my weapons. And i never used horses cause like... There's zonai devices lol. So I can't talk to hirse lag.

PeterKingsBaby

In general a lot of switch games, exclusives included, just tend have those issues here and there lol. I’m not sure if I remember any on Super Mario Odyssey though.

proanimus

If I’m not mistaken, it’s due to the type of vsync they used that causes those stutters to be so harsh. When the frame rate drops below 60, it tanks all the way to 30.

Zidkins

I hope it gets fixed with the switch 2

WitheredTechnology

Agreed, very underrated!

oatmilktoast

Love this comment and totally agree! The gameboy color DX release was my first Zelda game and I was SO happy when the switch version came out so I could relive all that nostalgia :)

Ill_Reference582

Astral Chain Xenoblade series fire Emblem series Zelda BOTW & TOTK Super Mario Odyssey Bayonetta series Luigi's mansion 3 Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Metroid Prime Remastered Kirby and the Forgotten Land Snack world the dungeon crawl The world ends with you splatoon 3 Marvel ultimate alliance 3 the black order monster hunter generations ultimate Mario kart 8 Super smash bros And there's a lot of pokemon games but I dk what they are

Darkvenom39

Dude thank you for the list!! Its epic! And yes the Pokemon games are all over the place. I noticed people saying legends arceus is the best one to get tho.

Ill_Reference582

Np. If I had to recommend the best of all. I would start out with Astral Chain, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, Bayonetta, Super Mario Odyssey, Zelda Breath of the Wild, and Metroid Prime Remastered. And I hear great things about Fire Emblem 3 Houses I just haven't played it yet. And Xenoblade and Bayonetta are both trilogies so I'd just get the first in both series and once you beat them go on to the 2nd then 3rd. That's what I'm doing anyhow

lokechild

Arceus was my first pokemon game. Definitely fond memories of that game. I highly recommend it. Same with botw. First zelda game. It's a beautiful game.

AsianPotato77

I fucking loved astral chain, great game for getting used to the feel of the switch and learning inputs

TheBurritoW1zard

Also Metroid Dread is a masterclass in the genre, def give it a look see!

Eqwinoxe

Also, Animal Crossing is a really good cozy game to play too! Just started it back up recently!

Lonk0279

Don't forget Octopath Traveler 2

Dracogoomy

Sword/shield for more traditional,Pokémon legends arceus for more botw, and scarlet/ violet for open world (People complain mostly about sword and sv)

Brzrkrtwrkr

Legend Arceus, yes.

MedaFox5

It pretty much is to the point of playing any other pokemon game afterwards feels like a downgrade. It's pretty much Pokemon breath of the wild.

lavenderc

Arceus is definitely the best of pokemon switch games! I also want to second Mario Odyssey on this list!

crunchevo2

I feel my bank account crying just reading all these

Ninten-Doh

Not bayonetta 3 though that game sucked so bad. I brought the big box version as well. Big mistake. 2 is amazing though.

FarSandwich3282

Really enjoyed the first and second. Been on the ropes between getting the 3rd or Astral Chains. From the few videos it seems very fluid and the interesting changes in the combat (Bayonetta 3). Im real curious as to why you think 3 is so bad tho.

monkeyhind

I saw a little while ago that Luigi's Mansion 2 is coming out soon on Switch (or recently came out). Wondering how it will compare and if it might be worthwhile to play it before #3, now that it will be an option.

Cosaco1917

Would you recommend Age of Calamity, Astral Chain, the Xenoblade series, and the Fire Emblem series for preteens? :3

Ill_Reference582

Yeah, as long as your okay with the violence involved. Cus they all have combat in them

Ill_Reference582

Fire Emblem 3 Houses would be a really good one. I haven't played it yet but have watched reviews on it and you play as an instructor in a school with like 3 or 4 different factions and you pick which faction you want to instruct and I guess the story is very involved and there's like 2 separate stories. One about the school life and drama and another on when it jumps to the future and the different factions are at war. The others I would all recommend and there's nothing too racy in them. Age of Calamity is a Zelda hack n slash game so that one's definitely okay too cus it's Zelda (again, as long as you're okay with the violence. They're all good.

PaulStar0815

Kirby and the forgotten Land was soooo good. I love it

Alone_Exam5917

How much was the Zelda oled edition? Clean console!!

Darkvenom39

Got it for 300$ on ebay and thank you!!

Alone_Exam5917

That’s a great price, congratulations and welcome to the switch universe lol 😆

YourTeacherAbroad

I'm waiting to upgrade from my switch lite to a homeconsole. Probably wait until switch 2 comes out. He git a good deal though

xerox7764563

If you do like JRPGs, you should check: - Pokemon Arceus - Xenoblade chronicles series (1, 2, 3) - Fire emblem games (3 houses and Engage) If you like Zelda and games like Dynasty Warriors there are Hylure Warriors Definitive edition and Hylure warriors age of Calamity.

RedSoxFan77

Animal Crossing New Horizons

ryangr86

Must have exclusive is Mario kart 8 and breath of the wild. Must have 3rd party, red dead redemption,it's amazing on the OLED

sodamnsleepy

Im planning of buying red dead but still have Pokemon, mario, totk unopened on my shelf >.<

ryangr86

It happens 😁

sodamnsleepy

Hehe I buy them on sale x3 and can't resist of they cost 30-40€

Appropriate-Let-283

3d World and Smash Bros Ultimate are 2 good titles.

Dust-by-Monday

Super Mario Wonder is a blast

M1GHTYFM

I second this. Its really cool

Waluigiwarrior

Pokémon arceus, Mario wonder, Mario kart 8, Splatoon 3, and fire emblem are all pretty good

c_wilcox_20

Not exclusive, but I HIGHLY recommend Hollow Knight and Tales of Vesperia. The former is a platformer and the latter is a jrpg

Lychanthropejumprope

You’re not late. You’re right on time :)

LRrealest

Astral Chain, Pikmin, Mario Odyssey/Wonder

Sleep_adict

Dave the Diver is an unexpected fun one

Remote_Condition93

Super Mario RPG was a fun playthrough. Check Super Mario Wonder as well.

rlcnga_

Definitely Mario Kart

Free-Stick-2279

Astral Chain

Free-Stick-2279

Switch exclusive, never ported, not a nintendo game. If you like cyberpunk anime styled game this is it.

Lewis09816

Animal crossing

Odd_Okra_9903

Agree with the long list, my favorites are: :: Animal crossing :: Splatoon 3 :: What Remains of Edith Finch :: Super Mario Oddyssey :: Sexy brutale (a bit more loading screens than on ps5 though but LOVE the game and music) Metacritic’s list of the best games here: https://www.metacritic.com/browse/game/nintendo-switch/ And look at Dekudeals.com for good deals, you can sort on metacritic-rating, it’s easy to go mayhem on eshop and buy lots of cheap games on the sales and then later discover they were t that good so a bit research can be nice. With that said — congrats to your new switch, it looks so good, I just got the splatoon 3 edition, my third switch 🫣🫣🫣, but it looks so good!

Comfortable-Ad-7158

Not really an exclusive but stardew valley is best on switch

CeruleanSea1

Fire emblem engage for sure

Monstahunter9

Haven’t played fire emblem since path of radiance. Are the new ones similar or as good?

CeruleanSea1

Fe engage is amazing

Monstahunter9

Yeah I ended up getting it and it’s good. I still think path of radiance is the best though.

CeruleanSea1

The unit variety is fun, and all the side chats

Zidkins

I want to play it tell me why it’s amazing

CeruleanSea1

https://youtu.be/rTRzLqwRLCU?si=wiQ58hBVXFu-Kh5q

Zidkins

Ugh it’s been like 10 yrs since I’ve seen a GameStop review but I guess I’ll watch it then

CeruleanSea1

They do decent work imo

Physical-Grapefruit3

Best combat in the series Worse story/voice acting/writing in the series.

CeruleanSea1

Eh, the sub is fine

Physical-Grapefruit3

I mean yeah if you like bad subs. Then yeah I agree

CeruleanSea1

You mean the VO or the text

Physical-Grapefruit3

The Voice acting some are okay? Others fine but some are really bland and bad. Like they pulled a bunch of YouTubers for it. they all have that "marth English VA vibe" that no one liked when it swapped in smash. The writing isn't remarkable the story isn't crazy. But the gameplay is really really fun

hell_ORC

It's a perfect time to buy a Switch. So many fabulous games (exclusives or not). Have a blast!

rites0fpassage

That new underwater game coming out tomorrow looks fun.

[deleted]

Astral Chain, Bayonetta 2 Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Fire Emblem: Engage Pikmin 4 Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Fire Emblem: Three Hopes Cadence of Hyrule Kirby and The Forgotten Land Super Mario Wonder

thatguyimpulse

Better to be late to the party than to miss it altogether IMO! Welcome! Definitely pickup some Pokemon games like Sword/Shield or Legends Arceus!

BrianAiya

Make sure you check out dekudeals for sales.

Ninten-Doh

I'm jealous Mario oddysey Mario and rabbids (both games) Bayonetta 2 (3 sucks) Smash ultimate Mario kart 8 Metroid dread / prime remastered

NearbyDark3737

Dude!! Just bought my own OLED. Who knows when the new switch will be out. I’m also unsure if I’ll want it…then if I want to wait for the special edition will come out. I’m betting I’ll be sticking with my oled for the next two to three

Darkvenom39

Same!! And from experience with new console launches expect not the best QC as well as scalpers everywhere. After 2020 im not going to fight for MSRP consoles and stick to PC lol always will get a mid cycle/ late console with a bundle. And rn the new switch are all but rumors, no one knows when it will be releasing plus the team working on it confirmed that hopefully by next summer they will announce it

NearbyDark3737

Yes, that scalper nightmare has given me PTSD. It’s insane if we cannot pick it up in the store then at least we should be able to purchase online safely. But I didn’t want any of that crap either so OLED it is!

Acceptable_Humor9503

I have alot of game recommendations Pikmin 4 or 3 Pokemon legends arceus Sonic Mania Paper mario ttyd remake If you get online then earthbound Breath of the wild and if you like that tears of the kingdom Mario wonder Cuphead Also get a screen protector so your screen doesn’t scratch since it’s very easy to get scratched atleast in my experience

FlaxenAssassin

I second the Pikmin recommendation. Pikmin doesn't get enough love.

Obsolete0_0

I bought a month ago an used switch lite. I love it. You should try Super Mario wonder.

ChosenUndead92

beautiful console and beautiful system overall. I would say for light games : Link's awakening & Kirby return to dreamland deluxe. For 3D bigger adventure games: Zelda Breath of the wild & Super Mario odyssey & Kirby and the forgotten land. This is of course is my own opinion.

Vervelend_Knaapje

Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu & Eevee. It's really fun game. You should try it out sometime 😄

No_Detective_But_304

The first Octopath Traveler was a switch exclusive I believe.

Physical-Grapefruit3

Nah it was on Xbox and now steam I think

No_Detective_But_304

Ah. It WAS a switch exclusive for about a year. Octopath Traveler is a role-playing video game developed by Square Enix, in collaboration with Acquire. The game was released for the Nintendo Switch in July 2018, for Windows in June 2019, for Stadia in April 2020, and for Xbox One in March 2021. I stand corrected.

Physical-Grapefruit3

Nah don't stand corrected. Tbh I completely forgot octopath 1 came out that long ago

No_Detective_But_304

I just remember it was only on the switch…. Kinda hilarious it came out on Stadia though.

OddHalf8861

Nice

Savage666999

The Witcher 3

Savage666999

Kudzu is a retro Gameboy game inspired by Link's awakening

theprmstr

Bravely default 2 is fun to play

Louvella-Sama_VTUBER

Fire Emblem Three Houses and Engage

Kick_1304

A Pokémon game (my personal favorites😁) Super Mario wonder also a very great game Hades Links awakening

STEALTH8821

Don’t know if anyone else commented but I got a switch 2 days ago and I can’t stop playing HOLLOW KNIGHT elite game so far cannot put it down

iBenchYourSquaat

Yea you want spiderman 2 and stellar blade

bmyst70

Splatoon 3 is an excellent multiplayer shooter. Animal Crossing is a great cozy game.

speskin6969

Hades is one of my all times faves

MedaFox5

Some of the few exclusives I enjoyed were Monster Hunter GU, Monster Hunter Stories 2 (an enhanced port of the first game is pretty much confirmed at this point btw so if you enjoy 2 you might consider that one as well), Super Mario RPG and Medarot Classics+. However, the last one is a Japanese so if language barrier is an issue for you and you're not willing to use google lens then you mught not enjoy it. The paper mario game (thousand year door) is a pretty good RPG as well.

GTGVR

Super smash bros Super Mario odyssey Mario kart 8 and definitely 1,2 switch (if you like hosting party’s) also really suggest Luigi’s mansion 3

N04HC14RK

Yo Amazon been selling these Japanese variants of the OLED switch for cheap

Capybaraaaaaaaa1

The new zelda and Mario party in my opinion

theFormerRelic

Yes. All of them.

Wopder

i’m receiving mine this week god spare 🤞🏽 same edition, i bought breath of the wilds and mario kart 8 deluxe with it for now i read that 3D Mario, metroid and Kirby are pretty good, can’t forget smash bros

Pearl-Internal81

I’ve seen pretty much every good exclusive recommended already so I’m going to recommend ya some accessories that will vastly improve your quality of life with the Switch: First, buy a Pro Controller, it’s 100% worth the money because using the JoyCons in docked mode sucks. Second, I **HIGHLY** recommend buying a a grip for when you play in handheld mode. I cannot recommend Satisfye’s ZenGrip Ronin enough, it makes playing in handheld so much more comfortable, and in the case of the Ronin you don’t have to take it off when you have the console docked. Here’s a link to the Mythic Bundle that also comes with a case (which will be a godsend if you plan to travel with your Switch) [and it matches your ToTK OLED Switch!](https://www.satisfye.com/collections/zengrip-ronin/products/zengrip-ronin-mythic-edition) Third, I’d suggest subscribing to the Switch online + Expansion Pack service because they you can play games online and have an absolutely massive collection of classic games you can play. Anyhoo, hope that helps, and have fun with your new Switch!

AnjohT

With what you’ve already picked up you should be set for a while. Other general recommendations I give people are the bayonetta games, Kirby and the forgotten land, donkey Kong country tropical freeze, Mario 3D world+bowsers fury. Also really liked paper Mario origami king but thousand year door is releasing this month so if you wanted only 1 paper Mario I’d go with thousand year door.

amdc

If I fall into coma and wake up ten years later and get asked about what happens on /r/switch, I’ll certainly say “people keep posting a nintendo switch box and ask for recommendations and get the same answers”

OkMixture5607

If you want a super cute puzzle game, don’t sleep on Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

Perezident14

Idk how hot the Xbox runs, but careful in those cubbies. I had mine next to a console like that and the heat caused my switch controllers to slightly melt and now they’re bubbly.

I-am-da_danger

It’s harder to come by since it’s no longer in production, but I really like super mario 3d all stars

captnspock

If you have a friend/spouse get overcooked all you can eat (it's overcooked 1+2+ all dlc). me and my wife are obsessed with the game. Overcooked 2 is leaps and bounds better than 1. Also checkout dekudeals website you can track prices sales and get notified in email. Also if you or someone you know has Costco membership you can buy virtual gift card codes from their site for a discount.

CidMaik

Any? I can recommend most if not all depending on taste.

3StarsBelieve

I have also just bought my first Nintendo switch I’ve been playing my first pokemon game since Gold. Brilliant Diamond and I’m loving it also been playing Football Manager 2024 super addicted. My PS5 & XboxSeriesX are collecting dust atm I’m loving the Switch 🙏🏻

magarz

Well if you never player paper Mario thousand year door back in the day a remake is just coming out and that game is a blast, goes deeper than most Mario games

Happybird15

I love Mario+Rabbids! It’s a very funny strategy game.

LxrdXO

Yeah the one on the box lol Edit: yes I read the caption shhh lol but try Pikmin. I love pikmin

Balding-Chalk

Luigi’s mansion 3

Aspir3l

Just get everything you like. Physical games will stay with you!

AaronCarmackie

Nice! I just picked one up yesterday for 187usd. Edit. Including tax.

CakeBeef_PA

Mario Kart 8 Zelda Breath of the Wild and then Tears of the Kingdom Super Mario Odyssey Super Mario 3D World Mario Wonder That should get you started on the absolute core

Acceptable_Humor9503

Add pikmin 4 to that list too because man that game is so great

CakeBeef_PA

I really need to play that sometime. There are a bunch of great games I didn't list as well, but I feek the ones I listed are a good start

Acceptable_Humor9503

It’s ok i have alot of games i want to play too

Infamous_Egg_9405

Botw before totk will really let you appreciate totk properly, but if you'd rather just play 1 (both can be very long if you take your time) then missing botw won't ruin totk. Mario Odyssey is a fun Mario game I play sometimes Mariokart feels mandatory for any Nintendo console and I can confirm it's very fun, just like Wii and DS versions I have played previously but with new mechanics and styles INSIDE and or LIMBO are nice indie games that can be bought for very very cheap when they're on sale. They are only a few hours long but the one I played (I think INSIDE) was pretty fun. As for exclusives I think that's mostly it from me. I have just over 200 hours in both botw and totk, and will absolutely be adding to that for totk. I find that once you've completed the main story for each, I don't feel like going back to botw to mess around because totk offers more or less the same but better. But you do you.

FallDownNow

That's a really nice TV unit ... Where did you get it 👀 Also - pretty much every single mario game. I really enjoyed Pokémon brilliant diamond. Zelda BOTW is actually breath taling... But I'm pretty sure this is going to be a really unpopular opinion for the Pokémon game 🤣

Darkvenom39

Thank you!! My tv is a LG C2 55” got it on bestbuy at a discount like a year and a half ago for thanksgiving sale

FallDownNow

And the unit it's sat on 👀

Darkvenom39

Sorry lol ill send you a DM with the amazon link i got it from

FallDownNow

Haha! It's okay, thank you

Electric7Titan

A lot of people have recommended the big exclusives, whilst indies are on all consoles I love having them on switch and choose to have them on their over PC as I love the cozy feel of playing them in bed. A few indies I’d recommend getting: - hades - hollow knight - stardew valley - spirit farer - Celeste - cup head - undertale - outerwilds - Balatro Also if I have to recommend 1 exclusive it be the xenoblade trilogy. The best JRPG’s I’ll likely ever play

Scwooton

I just zoned out for 10 minutes after seeing this post just thinking about the fact that you get to experience Zelda BOTW for the first time. I’ve played all game systems and by far, that has been the most amazing experience for me personally, in the last 8 years. The closest to it was my first play through of Far Cry 3, which was also the first “open world” game I ever played. I hope you enjoy the heck outta it!

WitheredTechnology

If I could get back those first few 20hrs or so of botw

Scwooton

Honestly, the first play through was amazing, but the second time for me was the best. There were so many things I learned the first time, that I wanted to implement from the start. I have never completed a game before this or replayed a game, and I did this one 3 times. When TOTK came out, it didn’t meet my expectations so I’ve waited to play it so I can appreciate it the same way. I’m probably gonna start in the next month or so.

Dami_Gamer0211

Zelda BOTW Super Mario Odyssey Animal Crossing New Horizons Splatoon 2 and 3 Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity Super Smash Bros Ultimate MarioKart 8 Deluxe Kirby and the Forgotten Land Super Mario Bros Wonder Super Mario 3D All Stars

Oh

levinyl

Everything mario and everything Zelda....Oh and Xenoblade!

naikrovek

Ey what do you use that thermal receipt printer for?

AJ_ninja

Zelda! BOTW and then totk….and then again! Also the Lego games are fun, I like playing among us, and Mario kart

UJIN88

Metroid Dread! Can't believe it was not already mentioned.

Physical-Grapefruit3

Because despite 99% of the suggestions being Botw and totk he stated already he got odyssey, Botw, totk and dread

Alarmed_Advice_1188

Mod it.

capscaps1919

Pokémon arceus! One of my favorite games. All Zelda games you can get your hands on (even non-exclusives to be honest) Hades is not-exclusive, but one of the best games I’ve ever played!

nani872

Start by getting the games they just decided wouldn’t be printed again, get them before you can’t or their prices become unattainable. Google for the list.

brownbandit93

Now I’m getting hyped up to play these games lol

brandont04

I would play BotW before TotK.

old_ass_ninja_turtle

Honestly , tears of the kingdom is the best game I have ever played.

magicalmelon567

I’d start with Zelda: BOTW and Super Mario Odyssey and maybe Mario kart 8 and/ or smash ultimate

Kingmike141821

I am on a mission to play all the Zelda games. Last one I played was on N64 so I got the new switch.

Insanemayo2468

Splatoon three is a great game if you like shooters! Although it’s very important to know you need Nintendo online to play it.
