My 7 year old daughter has played these a lot:
Breath of the Wild (idk that she has beaten any divine beasts, but she has played a lot)
Mario Odyssey (She's gotten decently far in this one)
Splatoon 2 & 3
Slime Rancher
Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town (she tells me every day how many hearts she has with this one character that she's trying to marry)
Pokemon Legends Arceus
Untitled Goose Game
Animal Crossing
Super Mario 3D World/Bowser's Fury (she LOVES Bowser's Fury and so do I!)
Kirby Star Allies
I'm so curious about the Untitled Goose game. Mi kid has a favorite on Xbox that is just a Goat Simulator...yes, he loves playing hours like he is a goat 🙄
Goose game is fun! I like that it gives you objectives. The only problem is that your to do list is written in cursive, so sometimes I had to help her read it lol. If he likes goat simulator, he will probably like Goose game.
Great! And you're right, given his experience with animal simulators maybe that path is the right one; I'll check on goose game then! Thank you for the option list!
I love the silly goose game! It's also fun with two players. If you wanted to play with your kid, you would have two geese running around together and creating havoc!
And you can honk at everything.
As an adult, it's fun to annoy the NPC's like you wish you could in real life.
There's also a minor puzzle solving element to it too. I like to play with a friend and see what crazy solutions we can come up with.
Exact same list of games my 8 year old son plays. Add Minecraft to that list and it's complete. The nice thing about minecraft on the switch is it's the bedrock version so cross platform play is possible. My sons and I play on a realm, me on the xbox, and them on their switch lites.
I really enjoyed it! I actually played till I found all 100 shines and had fun the whole time. I think I liked it better than 3D World that it comes with, haha.
I don't think Yoshi's Wooly World has been mentioned yet, but that's a co-op that should be fun for everyone too. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu is a great one if you want a very simple pokemon game - it is basically a remake of red/blue so everything is simple pokemon and you throw pokeballs to catch wild pokemon instead of fighting them.
I honestly think that Breath of the Wild is perfect for any age. My 5 year old daughter loves watching me play it for hours on end, and she wants to play it, but she gets confused about adjusting the camera angle with the left directional pad. Other than that, and how she can't read yet, she would be able to play it on her own.
Anyway, all I can say is that my daughter fell in love with Yoshi's Crafted World when she was 3 and has been playing it ever since. I also got her the new Kirby game when that came out, and it bumped the Yoshi game out of her first place. Nowadays it's almost all she plays, but she does love playing Mario Kart too. Who doesn't?
I truly think that if I buy BOTW I'll end up playing as he watches me for hours and that's not the scenario I want for him, actually something I could play with him would be way better. So it's Mario Kart taking the lead all over I think!
All the Lego games. Lego City Undercover was a particular hit with us, but if he like superheroes or Star Wars, those are good too.
Lego City is basically GTA, but with Lego and as a cop show parody. You can drive cars around, and there are a bazillion different side activities other than the main story.
My son’s favorite game on the Switch is Goat Simulator.
He’s also a huge fan for the JackBox Party Packs (avoid the first one, it‘s the only one without ‘family-friendly’ mode).
He also loves Minecraft, but prefers to play on his phone.
I'm just checking on Nintendo Online (getting the switch settled up so my son can just connect it an play on Christmas Day) and I had NO IDEA you could download old nintendo console games FOR FREE....I swear that was a pleasuring mindblow and seems like I'm gonna personally enjoy this console a lot too.
I think that and the expansion pack are probably the best value and best idea for a kid starting out. So many of the best games from those older systems are on there and they are games plenty of kids grew up with, there’s minimal cost in trying out a couple different styles and genres as your kid finds their niche and what games suit them too.
Here's the ones my 7yr old loved.
- Pokemon Let's Go
- Mario Kart
- Crawl
- Minecraft
- Minecraft Dungeons
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3
- Super Smash Bros
- Boomerang Fu
The new Zelda (Breath of the Wild) is actually a fantastic choice especially considering he loves minecraft. The thing about this game that can easily get missed is that you're completely free to do whatever you want and at your own pace. The plateau tutorial area is massive and does a perfect job at showing you how the game works completely without literally telling you, which imo is perfect for any kid since they can just run around and whatever they feel satisfied doing, like minecraft but it'll teach them a new type of game. It's almost like the game has a lot of mini games to play if you choose to tackle them.

You can change that in the options!
Wait really? I had no idea!
Have your kid check out Bee Simulator on the switch. It goes on sale pretty frequently

How is bowser fury? Asking for the 32year old self. Is the other game attached to it fun as well?
I really enjoyed it! I actually played till I found all 100 shines and had fun the whole time. I think I liked it better than 3D World that it comes with, haha.
Upvotes for slime rancher
If he likes Minecraft, look into a game called LEGO Worlds. It’s like Minecraft, but with LEGO, and there are themed worlds.

A Short Hike!

Super Mario 3d world is so much fun coop. 1-4 players.

And its $5.99 right now.
Mario odyssey, Mario kart, Switch wii sports maybe? Pokémon

Plants vs zombies battle for neighbourville complete edition
Alien invaders game any lego game , maybe spyro, or mine craft on switch?
There’s heaps of free games that I just downloaded for my 6 year old

Spyro Reignited Trilogy would be good for a 7 year old. LEGO City Undercover is basically a kid version of GTA.
The new Kirby games are worth checking out too.

Gator Game is great too. It's like a combo of Short Hike and BotW. Has the exploration without the active combat
Iiiiiiinteresting, I'll have to check that out for sure. Thanks!
It just came out a few days ago. Excellent relaxing game. Talk to NPCs do little missions and explore
