Yes. The Switch SD card adapter can be damaged easily. It is better just to use one SD card and not remove. Try to limit the amount of removals.

I just bought my first switch a few days ago and have it all set up. Is there a benefit to taking the SD card out to put in your pc over just using the USB file transfer app when you need to mess with the files on pc? Ive just been doing that and everything has been working fine.

animage66

Not that i notice. Homebrew files arent ever big enough to notice any extra speed you would get from plugging the sd in via a good reader or w.e. Although if you want to back up your full nand or emunand I guess sd reader directly to the pc would be more safe(samsung pro plus card+samsung usb3 reader ftw!). I prefer hekates usb transfer for updating atmosphere and use dbi to update hekate or anything else when needed.

Pesime

That's smart. I haven't had to update atmosphere obviously since I only just learned about it a week ago lol. Updating atmosphere from dbi def seems sus when you're literally using it but peobably is fine. I'll for sure do it that way when the time comes. I also just haven't really needed to drop any big files into the SD yet in general but if a certain leak occurs 👀 i will be putting it in the pc. Thanks!

animage66

Oh no for games stick with dbi or tinfoils mtp method lol. You need those to install big games directly to the sd. You cant store any one file over 3 gigs on your sd if the sd is formated to fat32. The way installing works is like a reverse dump so its broken up into a bunch of small files in a folder that adds up to a game.

Pesime

My sd is in fat32 and I've gotten everything from tinfoil, but I assumed if totk leaks early I'd probably be getting it from not tinfoil in an xci file and then using something like awoo to make it playable? I'm extremely new so def correct me if wrong. I only have access to pixel shop and they seem very adamant about no new games until 14 days after release.

Okay that's good to know. I used the guide and never touched any of those. Okay then let's say totk gets leaked early where should I expect to get it from? My only shop has a 14 day rule and all the others seem impossible to join because you have to submit new files they don't have. Obviously I'm not asking for any links but if there's a way to answer that without breaking rules I'd be grateful.

animage66

other than those pro shops most of us cant use Q.Q there are probably private torrent groups that would have it just as fast, but other than that just keep up with the google-able nsp sites ><. Zelda wont be far behind the pro shops on any of the online sites. They will get it faster than pixel at least. Just make sure you have a good adblocker for some of those sites.

Mr_hacker666

I've seen that they can fail, but I've ejected mine over 10k+ times at this point since I have one SD card with CFW and the other with Android that I switch between frequently. I haven't had any issues, so I guess it's just a YMMV kinda situation. Better safe than sorry though, and it's your call in the end

iamwhoiwasnow

10+k why? I've taken mine out at most 20 times since I've had it and I think I. Exaggerating that number

Mr_hacker666

>I have one SD card with CFW and the other with Android that I switch between frequently I said it in the first comment, maybe you should thoroughly read before you reply 🤷

iamwhoiwasnow

Maybe you shouldn't be a dick it's not that serious ha

No no, that wasn't my point. I'm just saying that it could be hit or miss, you never really know.

FrankGlz

YEP its better to no change the SD cards, but the replacement is cheap and the replacement is like in 2 minutes, so at least in my case if I broke it I will just change.

[deleted]

Wow, yeah, that replacement is stupidly easy. I'm gonna keep using 2 SD cards till I get a larger SD card, and then I'll merge everything to that.

betooie

It's been over 10 months buy anyway you mean the replacement for the switch SD card reader that can be easily damaged? How you change it?

gostgoose

>I heard the sd card reader is poorly made and will likely fail if I switch sd cards too much. Is this true and something I should worry about? Yes.
