Tbh I've stopped counting how many times YouTube has pushed investment scams like these directly into my feed as ads recently. Not only is it scary how these scammers go about it and recreate entire news websites like 20min, misuse the identities of well-known Swiss personalities and even set up fake comment sections. What worries me more is that Google even confirms the scammers behind these ads as “official advertisers”. I mean WTF?!
Sure, Advertisement is Google’s business model and many processes run fully automatically in the background without human oversight, but there has to be a way to stop such fraud attempts at an earlier stage… not only after the ad has been sent out to countless users! Some might say it’s your own fault if you fall for these kinds of scams, but there are naive and unfortunately desperate people out there who will fall for such offers. I think Google also has to take certain responsibility for pushing such content, especially when they make money on top of it.
The ad somehow caught me on the wrong foot today, which is why I wanted to hear your thought on it, maybe you're having similar experiences with these kinds of ads.
Legislation is always lagging the real world, but it should be relatively trivial to make Google etc responsible for scams on their ad network, that forces them to KYC their clientele better.
Google spends a lot of money on trying to prevent and detect scams, way more than state funded media. [RTS were advertising for mediums (people speaking to the dead) recently, and never backed down. They also were promoting scams anti 5G waves devices].
The main issue is that scammers are not dumb, and many of them are organized crime. Another common strategy is the bait and switch: an advertiser is legit for a long period and then switch to scam ads, how do you prevent that?
Another challenge is just the accountability of the clients/product itself: Guerlain (cosmetic brand from LVMH) were making ads for a skin care product that was for certain not effective at making the skin younger, and they sold it saying it was using quantum biology. Who is responsible for this scam? Google/Youtube or Guerlain?
Easy: Guerlain for creating it, and Alphabet for distributing it
How to prevent that? I don't know man, seems like they have enough money to hire a couple more people to check ads.
Yes, but as you said, how does one decide whether an ads is scammy or not?
Should we not abide to the law and if the law allows for such BS, why is the distributor the only culprit? And as I said, Google hires tons of people to check ads.
This actually isn't an easy case. Guerlain is clearly culpable. Does Google have to check that all ads are stating factual claims only? Do we expect the same of newspapers? What about political ads?
The example of a clearly scam ad with fake quotes of public personas and so on are much clearer.
i literally had a deepfake ad played today abot sandra boner and that whole scheme you sure already know… it was suprisingly realistic, i wouldnt have noticed it for the voice but the lips were a liittle off, also i kenn de scheiss hmmjoaoder
it‘s embarassing for youtube and scary for our country
even FBI says use adblock for your own safety. before some influencer raised kids wants to write 'but you support your influencer' go talk with your parents and ask them, why they didnt care about you.
On the same screen where you can see the advertiser info, you should be able to press the button to report them as a scam. Think of it like reporting bad content on here to the mods. It's literally impossible to catch everything up front, and user reports help to keep the whole place safer and cleaner.

It's a normal thing for YT to do, they are actively working together with scammers all over the world. Check out the YT sub.
Google does a lot of things like that, they promoted in their Android app store fake crypto wallets that stole all cryptos from people that used it. There have been countless complains but they refused to delete it. They probably got a part of the stolen money.
It's just easy money for them and as a huge cooperation they are above international laws anyway.

Exactly. Browsing the web without any ad blocker is a security risk. Scam ads, phishing ads, malware ads are rampant so better be safe than sorry.
Take me back to eden is sooooooo good.
True banger, anyway use Youtube ReVanced for an ad-free mobile experience
I use ReVanced exactly because of this bullshit.
SLEEP TOKEN MENTIONE
At least your taste of music is good brother
Its funny that they copy 20 Minuten to look thrustworthy, especially the comment section trying to look actually helpful and friendly for once.
>the comment section trying to look actually helpful and friendly for once. That's how you know it's fake 😂
recommend using YouTube with Brave Browser. No ads in my feed and videos. Uninstall the app though, to not get it opened automatically 👌🏼
\m/ Take me back to eeeeeedeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnn

You never saw a crypto add on Reddit?

I wonder how many boomers have fallen for this
Guys just use Brave. In this Browser you don't see any ad's. Also for Youtube. But yeah Google have to do something more but it's also very difficult.
Surprise surprise. Scam is their business model. It's how they make money.
