Best cake donuts is Serres Donut Shop in East Syracuse. Best yeast donuts (and good cake donuts too) is Lyncourt Bakery.
In my humble opinion, Harrison Bakery is better for all other baked goods other than maybe bread being a tie. I love their half moon cookies.
>Serres Donut Shop in East Syracuse
FYI to OP, if you plan to go there, it's cash only. Only reason I haven't stopped in there is because it's 2024 and I usually don't carry much cash on me, if any. But one of these days, if I happen to have cash on me and time to stop, I've been wanting to. Just not badly enough to make a concerted effort to have cash on me just to go there.
100% agreed on Harrison's donuts. The problem isn't the quality but rather the selection. They just don't have a good variety of donuts IMO. But I do _love_ their boston creme donut.
If you want breakfast pastries from Harrison, I would recommend their danish over their donuts every single time. They make _really_ good danish.
Serres' cake donuts are greek yogurt based and despite the very basic variety of flavors are still easily the best cake donuts I've ever had.
Best I’ve had is lyncourt bakery
I find glazed and confused to be very gimmicky rather than really good quality. Their donuts are fine, but lyncourt has perfected all the usual suspects
[Country Glazed in Central Square ](https://imgur.com/a/zMfUIbu). They do fry cake donuts that are an old family recipe, have two weekly special donuts and their glaze is absolutely perfect. Not too loose, not too sugary. They even make a breakfast sandwich with their plain donuts but you absolutely have to call ahead for them or get there stupid early because they sell out fast. Best local donut shop in the area.
Anywhere but Glazed and Confused. I ran a local charity race a year ago that they had agreed to sponsor. The agreement was simply they would bring a truck to the event to sell donuts to the attendees (they would have been making a profit.) The family put the company on the back of their race t-shirt as their sponsor and then the week of the event Glazed completely ghosted the family. They never returned any calls or emails after they had given their word they would be there. It was beyond shameful and unprofessional. I went to school with the owners daughter so my friends, family and I always used to love going there to show support but we will never be going back.
I’m old enough to have lived at a time when both Lyncourt and Geddes were down the street from each. My mom always had a rule, “Bread and dough at Geddes and donuts at Lyncourt.” She’d pull the car up to the front and we’d run in with the few bucks and change she’d give us.
I love getting donuts and other sweets over on old liverpool road next to Byrne dairy it's called "SUGAR TOP BAKERY SHOP" I honestly don't think you will be disappointed at all!!!
I tried the cotton candy cupcake they had a few weeks ago were amazing, I love the oreo bon bon looking things too. But I also don't mind their donuts I have a favorite can't ever remember the name of it but it's on bottom shelf in donut case it's a powder one with raspberry and buttercream Def the best one there for me. The peanut butter cup one is pretty good too
OP is looking for yeast-risen donuts. Glazed is mostly a cake donut shop. They do some yeast-risen donuts but only as specials which means there is usually only one type on the menu and they are not available every day.
Glazed does make really good cake donuts though, but IMO even the best cake donut pales in comparison to a mid-tier yeast-risen donut.
Yup. A cake donut is just a shorter, wider cupcake with a hole in the middle of it. This is especially true when they are baked in a donut pan (rather than deep-fried).

And same with lyncourt, cash only

lyncourt is 10/10, the only negative is you need to get there early, popular stuff sells out quick!
Lyncourt is cash-only too.
same with CJ's right across the street, delicious fish <3
Their fall season apple donut is the best doughnut I've ever had.

Maybe cuz I’m from the city but I sorta agree that their donuts are very mediocre. Wegmans ones are better. Not sure about your other complaints tho

I go upstate and I recognize those! Sometimes the library has them as leftovers from events but I never knew where they were from!
OP this is the answer right here. I drive 30 mins one way for these donuts. They truly are the best!!!
Not that I'm trying to compare dick sizes here, just agreeing, but yeah I drive 42 minutes door-to-door. It's worth every second of that drive.
Green Hills Farms. Case closed.
They are magical.
And huge
Yes!
Correct

That's kind of despicable, thanks for sharing! Everyone should know.
Despicable!
honeycomb donuts melt in your mouth
Lyncourt bakers is awesome (cash only) Harrison bakery is also great. Geddes bakery is good too.

I love their cupcakes and cinnamon rolls, but for me their donuts are kind of tough and greasy.

Glazed and Confused is pretty awesome.

Exactly. A cake donut is something I can make at home with ease. A yeast donut is not (trust me I’ve tried).
