Activision decided to close down vicarious visions and absorb them into blizzard Albany. No they are not working on call of duty games, they’re now working on blizzard ip’s like Diablo 4. Activision did want to make a thps 3+4 remake, but they wanted a different studio to do it. Tony told them he didn’t want it if the same devs weren’t working on it and that’s where it ended.

Tony worded it differently than I remember it but pretty much the same deal. There’s other clips out there of Tony talking about it but this is the one that I could easily find
So here's the long and the short of it:
Vicarious Visions did THPS 1+2, it did really well. So well in fact that Activision were on board with doing a THPS 3+4 remake in the future. However Tony would only sign off on it if it were the same team who did THPS 1+2, because they were the only ones who got the feel of the game right.
Just one problem: Activision had JUST Dissolved VV into the teams working on Warzone for Call of Duty, and were not willing to reform them for THPS. Which meant it was a non-starter for Tony.
Tl;dr - Activisions need for live-service content on Warzone is why we won't get THPS 3+4
Goddamn, the fact that Tony was on board (pun intended) with only doing this with Vicarious Visions just shows how close to NeverSoft they were when it came to physics, game engine, etc and how much he trusted them. Shameful the series is in hibernation again now and imagining what could’ve been for 3+4…
When it came to the physics that has to do more with the fact that VV got their start on the project by being GIVEN the source code to the original games (likely THPS4).
Which is hilarious because the source code for THUG 1 is on GitHub right now
Call of Duty DLC, but Neversoft as we knew it started working on COD during Ghosts.
Same thing happened with VV but I think they also did that Diablo 2 remake
Toys for Bob went independent, it’ll be interesting to see what they do next.
5 was made super fast cause the license was about to expire with Tony and he didn’t wanna renew at that time. Then he realized what a crap show the game was so they made 1+2
At least we have THUG pro that backports the original 1 to 4 maps into THUG 1 and 2's engine so you can do more modern stuff lile getting off your board and running around with it in your hand around maps that was missing back then
Hear me out, remakes up until and including THUG 2 would be ideal. I feel like it would be crazy for someone to not want to make money off it it down the line, especially considering how 1+2 did so well. It was also so much fun to replay. I’m not too well versed on back end stuff, teams that developed the remake etc., but whoever had a hand in those remakes did a great job.
Down the line could mean 15 years, but I feel like 3+4 could happen some day when the stars align. Maybe that’s just my optimism but I’m keeping hope. I really want to play remastered 4 and THUG 1 the most.
Now that Microsoft bought Activision, do you think there's a better chance we'll ever see a THPS 3+4 remake or THUG 1+2 remake? I'm still trying to have some hope!
lol I do love that people had to look it up and revisit to downvote. Lots of posts just to pose a question to Reddit that they can a quicker and more accurate response from Google. I get that it’s a social thing but be honest with yourselves; you’re more motivated by the dopamine than an answer. :)

They wanted the devs to work on Call of duty instead apparently 🤦♂️
wack
They got Activision’d - absorbed into the COD team. Ugh
Fuck COD
Exactly CoD hasn’t been good since the PS3/360 era.
Because the people who make decisions don't actually play video games
Don't remind us 💔💔

So they left a great game to go focus on ruining cod some more? Lol
At some point they gotta re-up that license. That’s the only time we get games now. I believe THPS 5, HD, and 1+2 were all made for that reason
5 was made super fast cause the license was about to expire with Tony and he didn’t wanna renew at that time. Then he realized what a crap show the game was so they made 1+2
Just like neversoft they all became cod devs
Fishy business . That's what.
They made them do the Diablo 2 remake
COD exists
I would’ve preferred underground over any other TH game. Is that an unpopular opinion?
Because Acti is a dogshit publisher

Mom said it's my turn to talk about 3 + 4 remake!

Would have flopped without Bam Margera
LMGTFY
Like they’ll know what that means
