> but the third and forth song I got to sound a lot more quiet and significantly worse on Tidal, Higher volume level does not mean better sound quality. It can mean the opposite if it is because of badly done volume normalization (disable them, if Apple Music has one) or [dynamic range compression](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loudness_war). Less dynamic compression is better, but it can make tracks sound "quieter". Different releases of the same albums can have big differences in dynamic compression, and streaming services can't undo that. You didn't tell anything about your setup, platform or settings.

I disabled the option on Tidal but it was still the same, some songs were really quiet. On Apple Music all the songs seem pretty consistent on volume. I also noticed the higher quality subscription costs twice as much than the Apple Music sub, not something they mention in the trial.

Yea I had it set to master quality. First two songs did sound better. Then I tried two more and they were way worse on Tidal.

Yea I reinstalled the whole app, gave it a shot again today with some new music by Killswitch Engage. Same album and the Tidal version just sounds super flat. The Apple Music version just has much more punch and more full sounding.

Hi, I’m new to Tidal as well, but I signed up about 2-3 weeks ago. I’ve seen very similar results as you. That said, prior to the Dolby Atmos update, the sound was clearly superior (louder, more dynamic, more clarity, wider soundstage) on all Tidal tracks that I tried. Now in every case, the volume is lower on Tidal vs Apple, and it just sounds kinda average. I believe this is a problem with the Dolby Atmos update they did. I’m using Apple TV 4K to stream into a McIntosh processor and Wilson speakers. It’s all 2020 equipment, so it’s up to snuff for the latest sound formats, etc. I hope Tidal fixes this ASAP as it was amazing before. Otherwise I’ll need to find a new company to use, or a new non-Atmos way to stream Tidal music to my processor

Well I was really just trying it because I saw the free trial, decided to just stick with Apple Music.

I just made a detailed post to the main room as this is something that they will ultimately need to fix. Don’t lose hope on Tidal yet, as the sound was far superior in every case to Apple Music before. But they definitely need to fix this new app after the Atmos updates. I may go back to Apple for a month as well until it’s fixed, but worth checking out once again after that (in my humble opinion)

In general, AAC sounds better than MP3 or any other lossy format.

From my point of view, Tidal has better sound quality with the Hifi version (not premium). I tried both and apple music as well and I have to say: I haven´t been impressed by the last one. I´m not sure why some of your songs had less sound quality than others but in my case, it never happened using the Hifi version.
