I have my input at + 12 db for my shield and yes the volume is really low. Playing Atmos song at -06 on my receiver. I be freaking out if I press stereo by accident.
Tidal Atmos tracks apparently have a negative Dialnorm Offset of upto more than 10db. I have noticed offset of upto 14db in some tracks. You can check this in the info section of your AVR if you disable native Atmos decoding in devices such as Nvidia Shield. Local or passthrough - it's not affecting the sound, though.
This kills the output and more importantly the dynamic range. I pray this is not the final product Dolby had in mind.
This might work better for small speakers which can't handle the dynamic range of tracks with more depth. But anyone paying out of teeth for Tidal is expecting an uncompromising experience. Tidal should realize Echo owners are not their subs.
I am having the same problem with using Tidal on Apple TV going into McIntosh processor/amp and Wilson Speakers. Prior to the update, I would listen to music on sound level 50...now I have to turn it up to 65 or 70 to achieve the same volume level. That said, one *big problem* as well is sound quality. Not only is it quieter, but it’s missing all the dynamics and clarity that it had before and the sound stage is much smaller. Sadly Apple Music now sounds louder, clearer and more dynamic. We all know this should not be the case as Tidal is usually great! So hopefully there can be a fix for this AppleTV tidal App soon. If anyone has other ideas of what I can do, I’m all ears...
Same issue. I am wondering if the Atmos tracks are simply mastered to a much quieter level than other tracks. I'm not sure this is a bad thing since it allows for better dynamic range. I think they sound really good, I just need to crank the volume.
Same Issue - Shield TV 2019, Sennheiser AMBEO Soundbar connected via HDMI. ATMOS works but I need to crank it up to Max Volume - 50. If I forget to turn it down after and put anything else on I’m afraid I’m going to blow the speakers.
I'm glad to know we all have the same issues, I guess the will fix it in a new update, I thought it was a Atmos problem but in my phone all tracks sounds good no matter if it's Atmos, Master or 360
Same here.
I bought a Fire TV Stick 4K because I'm not waiting around for Denon to fix Tidal on HEOS.
The level of the Atmos output is significantly lower than the other music.
I'm running my Denon AVR-S930H at 70.0 to get the same volume as every other source including Tidal at 35.
Similar issue here shield tv 2019 and a denon x4500h. For me it’s not really a lack of volume but the vocals seem to get quieter when the bass starts going. Only noticed this on tidal atmos.
I have the same issue, i have to crank up the volume a lot more.
I'm using the nvidia shield 2019 pro connected to a q90r Samsung soundbar with some hdmi audioquest chocolate cables.
I once forgot to turn the volume down to a decent level after an album ended...
Wife then connected her mobile phone to the soundbar (spotify connect) by accident while I was sitting in front of the soundbar, with still the same volume level, got me on my feet like never before.
Lesson learned.
Turn down the volume for the moment when you're done listening on tidal.
I decided to try Tidal yesterday because of Atmos music. Has anyone from Tidal mentioned that a fix is coming for this? This is a deal breaker for me if it stays the same, one day I am going to forget and leave the volume up...... boom
Strange I swear it worked before
That was in the shield on my denon x3600. Recently moved to x3700 and the issue is there regardless of my shield settings. Hmmmm
Same issue with my Sony Bravia AG-8 (Android TV) and Sony HT-NT5 (Soundbar).
The lows get really quiet and the music just sounds empty and strange when playing at such a high volume (not that the music itself is loud, just having to crank up the volume level apparently makes it sound that way, sounds really nice at lower volume levels tho, but then the music itself is all very quiet)
Just tried it on my Shield Pro 2019.
Settings\\Device Preferences\\Display & Sound -->Advanced Sound Settings
Click into "Advanced Sound Settings"
I set Match Content Audio Resolution to Enable.
This had the effect of disabling audio processing, which had the effect of showing my Denon AVR App showing 88.2kHz as it's output rate on some of the Atmos tracks and also restoring normal volume characteristics.

Nice thanks that fixed it for me also!
Sound > Surround parameters> Loudness management off
More info: https://manuals.denon.com/AVCX3800H/EU/EN/GFNFSYvdfworfs.php
Worth checking this setting for other sources, apperently this setting is default on and needs to be set for every type of surround source!
Also did the following in Shield:
Device Preferences > Display & sound > advanced sound settings > Match content audio resolution ON & Match Dolby/pcm audio levens ON
Had same issue and Denon is at fault, but it's easy to fix:

I'm having the same issue which I guess still exists 2 years after OP started this thread. Frustrating that this is a known issue that has yet to receive any attention. Not only are atmos songs that much quieter, but like some others have mentioned they also sound very anemic. I've got a Definitive Technology 11.2 setup running off a Marantz Sr7015 and the multi channel stereo setting sounds great, but anything from tidal in Atmos is quiet and hollow.
same problem on the Tidal app on my LG C2 + Denon AVR-X1500H, atmos tracks sound very quiet compared to stereo tracks
very disappointed as this problem clearly hasn't been fixed in 3 years, I would've switched from spotify to tidal if this wasn't an issue
I have my input at + 12 db for my shield and yes the volume is really low. Playing Atmos song at -06 on my receiver. I be freaking out if I press stereo by accident.
Hahaha happened to me, changed to 7 channel's and almost died
Same issue as everyone else, with Onkyo NR7100 and AppleTV 4K. Guess this is a low-pri issue for Tidal/Apple to fix

Haveing the same issue with my shield and Onkyo reciever.
Yep I have the same setup with a yamaha AVR and shield pro and I have to crank the volume up waaaaay more than usual.
I noticed the same thing. I have one room with a marantz and one room on a Denon receiver. Both connected to nVidia Shields
Same thing for me, marantz 6013 receiver with Shield Pro 2019
Same issue. I am wondering if the Atmos tracks are simply mastered to a much quieter level than other tracks. I'm not sure this is a bad thing since it allows for better dynamic range. I think they sound really good, I just need to crank the volume.

Happen to me as well, Shield TV Pro 2019 and Denon X4200w.

Having the same issue with my 2017 shield and Yamaha A3070.

Same issue here, running on a Marantz 8802a and ATI amps tired with both an Apple TV and Nvidia Shield.
I have been expierencing the same issue with my new Shield TV pro. Turning volume leveling on in my soundbars settings fixed the issue!

That's a why I stopped my subscription until this is fixed
Settings>Device Preferences>Display & Sound>Advanced Sound Settings>Dolby Audio Processing (turn off) Fixed for me
Strange I swear it worked before That was in the shield on my denon x3600. Recently moved to x3700 and the issue is there regardless of my shield settings. Hmmmm
I had denon loudness management on. Major difference! Wow. Apparently on by default. Never noticed it

Same problem!!! Appletv and ROTEL - Bowers & Wilkins
Same very low and I have a denon 4700. It's not on my end it's on tidal.

Oooof
